So! I recently played through Pokemon Sword for free thanks to a friend of mine (Thanks Lucas!) And I felt SO bad for those poor Fossil Pokemon that I decided to draw myself helping them! The designs for the fixed fossils are not mine, but rather the Velozolt and Dunklevish designs can be credited to Gerph on Youtube! But yeah, I hope that in the new expansion passes we are able to see what these Fossil Pokemon truly look like, rather than the abominations we were given in the base game.

Let’s Talk About Pokemon - Arctovish

883: Arctovish

Our last of the Fossil Freaks is poor little Arctovish, which easily got the worst deal out of all these Fossilmon. Not only stuck with a completely upside-down head, but also stuck to a half that easily makes it look like the closest to normal, which has ultimately led to it being called the worst or at least most forgettable. Even the Water/Ice typing is the most “normal” compared to all the others. Certainly doesn't help that it's overshadowed by its handsomer, legged brother.

Indeed though this is probably my least favorite of the bunch... if nothing else simply because the upside down head reads as if they recognized that Arctovish with a rightside-up head would almost look like the way it was meant to look, so switched it around to keep it just as weird as its friends. You COULD however say that Professor Liss is just so irresponsible that she COULD'VE had one happy little creature that didn't look like a complete weirdo with a body that at least kinda matched its front half. But no. She stuck the thing's head on upside down and said “Well d'uh, it had to go extinct because the idiot evolved a mouth on the top of its head.” Oh, never change...

Admittedly, Arctovish is the one I have the least to say about. I will say though that I've adored this concept and am almost sad we might not get to see it again, unless later down the line they bring Cara back for more Prehistoric Escapades.

When the concept first became known to me when I first saw Arctozolt, my brain ran wild thinking there might be even more of these fossil freaks than there actually were. There are so many dang weird ideas to draw from with this concept alone, you could base an entire monster-collecting game around mixing and matching fossils. Let alone how many ideas they could pull by bringing the concept back one of these days.

I would suspect the Cretaceous Circus might come back for at least one more go-around, given the way you obtain this first batch is related to the Wild Area, so who knows if we’ll get more fossil halves in the two extra Wild Areas they’re adding. It could be the other halves of the already existing fossilmon, allowing you to either finally complete poor little “Velozolt” or decide “Dunklovish” could use a much smaller pair of legs. OR they could introduce entirely new fossils that give us four more weirdos to play around with. Either way, I hope the new Pokemon coming to DLC isn’t going to be exclusively Legendaries.

I also like how all of their shinies are nearly completely greyscale. That combined with their Frankenstein nature makes them look a little bit undead or like shambling zombies. Or perhaps the intention was to make them look like old black-and-white Horror B-Movie monsters? Either way is neat.

Hey, Cedar did you know? It's agreed among the scientific community that, in the ancient past, "Velozolt" (the Electric- Type Pokemon that becomes the head for Dracozolt and Arctozolt), could be considered one of the very first Starter Pokemon? It's rumored that, while the Pokemon in question was whole, it acted as a sort of prehistoric replacement for Pikachu and would often fight alongside Neanderthals and Cavemen. Or, at least, that's the generally accepted theory.

this just dawned on me: Those cheekses (their color varies based on the other half, but still). the electric typing. The fact that it's based on Velociraptor, a relatively small dromaeosaur... I get that small raptors and small rodents don't exactly have the same niche, but could _____zolt (Velozolt?) have been a maniraptoran PIKACHU CLONE??? I mean, convergent evolution would dictate that groups besides small rodents would get in on the "zappy cheeks" business as well
