Is it Mandatory to Have Motor Insurance for Leased Vehicles in the UAE?
Motor insurance plays a crucial role in ensuring safety and financial protection for vehicle owners in the UAE. The question of whether it’s mandatory to have motor insurance for leased vehicles in the UAE often arises, especially for those who lease cars as a convenient alternative to buying. In the UAE, like in many other parts of the world, motor insurance is not just a good-to-have; it is a legal requirement for all vehicle owners, including those who lease cars.
In this article, we will explore the rules and regulations surrounding motor insurance for leased vehicles in the UAE, the different types of coverage available, and why it’s essential to choose the right policy from a reputable motor insurance company in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, or elsewhere in the country.
Tumblr media
The Importance of Motor Insurance in the UAE
The UAE is known for its well-maintained roads and modern infrastructure, but like any country, it experiences its share of road accidents. To mitigate the financial risks associated with vehicle accidents, whether involving damage, injury, or even death, motor insurance is mandatory under UAE law. The government has made it clear that no vehicle—whether purchased outright or leased—can legally be driven on the roads without proper insurance coverage.
Legal Framework for Motor Insurance in the UAE
The UAE’s laws on motor insurance are governed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the UAE Insurance Authority. According to these regulations, every motorist must have third-party liability insurance as a minimum requirement. This coverage protects the policyholder from financial liabilities in case they cause an accident that results in damage to someone else’s vehicle or property, or if someone is injured.
For leased vehicles, the rules are no different. The leasing company typically requires the lessee to maintain comprehensive motor insurance for the duration of the lease. Comprehensive coverage not only includes third-party liabilities but also protects against damage to the leased vehicle, theft, fire, and other perils.
Is Motor Insurance Mandatory for Leased Vehicles?
Yes, it is absolutely mandatory to have motor insurance for leased vehicles in the UAE. Leasing companies have strict requirements when it comes to insuring their vehicles, as they retain ownership of the car while it is leased out to customers. Let’s explore why this is the case.
1. Legal Requirement
First and foremost, UAE law mandates that every vehicle on the road must have valid motor insurance. This rule applies to leased vehicles as well, which are typically registered in the name of the leasing company but driven by the lessee. Whether you’re driving a leased car or one you own, you cannot register or renew the vehicle registration without showing proof of motor insurance.
If caught driving without insurance, motorists can face severe penalties, including hefty fines, points on their license, and even impoundment of the vehicle. To avoid these legal consequences, it is essential to ensure that your leased vehicle is properly insured.
2. Leasing Company Requirements
In addition to legal requirements, leasing companies have their own policies regarding motor insurance. Since the leasing company still technically owns the vehicle, they have a vested interest in protecting their asset. As a result, they often require the lessee to obtain comprehensive insurance coverage, which offers a higher level of protection than the minimum third-party liability insurance.
Comprehensive insurance not only covers third-party damage but also provides coverage for damage to the leased vehicle itself, whether caused by an accident, theft, fire, or natural disasters. Leasing companies prefer comprehensive coverage to protect their vehicles and to ensure that any potential repair costs are covered in case of an accident.
Types of Motor Insurance for Leased Vehicles in the UAE
When leasing a vehicle in the UAE, you will typically be required to choose between different types of motor insurance policies, depending on the level of coverage you need and what the leasing company stipulates. The two most common types of motor insurance available are third-party liability insurance and comprehensive insurance.
1. Third-Party Liability Insurance
As mentioned earlier, third-party liability insurance is the minimum legal requirement for driving in the UAE. This type of insurance covers the cost of damage or injury that you may cause to someone else or their property while driving. However, it does not cover any damage to your own vehicle.
For leased vehicles, third-party liability insurance may not be sufficient, as leasing companies typically require more extensive coverage to protect their investment.
2. Comprehensive Insurance
Comprehensive insurance is the preferred option for leased vehicles. It offers a wider range of coverage compared to third-party liability insurance. With comprehensive insurance, you are not only protected against third-party damage, but also against damage to the leased vehicle itself, regardless of who is at fault in an accident.
Comprehensive insurance covers various scenarios, such as:
Accidents (whether you are at fault or not)
Theft of the vehicle
Fire or explosion
Natural disasters (floods, storms, etc.)
Vandalism
While comprehensive insurance is more expensive than third-party insurance, it offers peace of mind by providing a higher level of protection for both the driver and the leasing company. Given that most leasing companies in the UAE require comprehensive insurance, this is likely the type of policy you will need to acquire for your leased vehicle.
How to Choose the Best Motor Insurance in the UAE for Leased Vehicles
With numerous options available for motor insurance in the UAE, selecting the right policy for your leased vehicle can seem overwhelming. However, by following a few key steps, you can ensure that you choose a policy that offers the right balance of coverage, cost, and service.
1. Compare Insurance Providers
The UAE is home to many reputable motor insurance companies, each offering a range of policies tailored to different needs. When searching for the best motor insurance in UAE, it’s important to compare quotes from different providers to ensure you get the best value for your money. Many companies offer online tools that allow you to compare policies, coverage options, and prices, making it easier to find the right fit.
2. Consider Online Motor Insurance in Dubai
With the convenience of technology, many motorists in the UAE opt to purchase motor insurance online. Online motor insurance Dubai platforms offer a hassle-free way to browse and purchase policies, often with the added benefit of discounts or promotions. These platforms allow you to compare various insurance options, read customer reviews, and make informed decisions about the type of coverage you need for your leased vehicle.
When purchasing motor insurance online, be sure to select a policy that meets the requirements of your leasing company, including comprehensive coverage and any additional benefits you may need, such as roadside assistance or replacement car coverage.
3. Work with a Reputable Motor Insurance Company
Whether you are located in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or any other emirate, it’s essential to work with a reputable motor insurance company in Abu Dhabi or your local area. A reliable insurer will offer transparent policies, excellent customer service, and prompt claims processing, all of which are critical when insuring a leased vehicle.
Before selecting an insurance provider, consider factors such as their reputation, customer reviews, and the breadth of their coverage options. A well-established insurance company will ensure that your leasing agreement requirements are met, and they will be there to support you in case of an accident or other unforeseen event.
4. Read the Policy Terms Carefully
Before finalizing your motor insurance policy for a leased vehicle, it’s essential to read the policy terms and conditions carefully. Make sure you understand what is covered, what is excluded, and any additional costs you may incur. For example, some comprehensive policies may offer additional features like personal accident coverage or roadside assistance, which can provide extra peace of mind.
Additionally, check whether your policy includes coverage for loss or damage to the leased vehicle due to natural disasters, theft, or vandalism, as these factors are important when protecting the car you are leasing.
The Consequences of Not Having Motor Insurance for a Leased Vehicle
Failing to insure a leased vehicle in the UAE can have serious legal and financial consequences. Driving without motor insurance is a violation of UAE law, and motorists caught without valid insurance can face severe penalties.
These penalties may include:
Fines and penalties imposed by the authorities
Black points on your driving record
Confiscation of the vehicle
Legal liabilities in the event of an accident
Moreover, if you are involved in an accident while driving a leased vehicle without insurance, you may be held financially responsible for any damage to the vehicle, as well as any injuries or property damage caused. This can result in significant out-of-pocket costs, particularly for leased vehicles, where the leasing company will likely demand reimbursement for repairs or replacement of the car.
Conclusion
In the UAE, it is mandatory to have motor insurance for leased vehicles. Both the government and leasing companies require insurance coverage to protect drivers, pedestrians, and the leased vehicle itself. Whether you are leasing a car in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, or any other emirate, motor insurance is an essential component of the leasing process.
By understanding the different types of motor insurance available, including third-party liability and comprehensive coverage, you can ensure that you meet both legal and leasing company requirements. Additionally, by choosing the best motor insurance in UAE from a reputable provider, either online or through a local motor insurance company in Abu Dhabi, you can drive with confidence, knowing that you and your leased vehicle are fully protected.
Ultimately, securing the right motor insurance for your leased vehicle is not only a legal necessity but also a smart investment in your safety and financial security.

Comprehensive Guide to Vehicle Inspection, Wheel Alignment, and Wheel Balancing in Dubai
Tumblr media
Maintaining a vehicle in Dubai's unique driving conditions is essential for safety, performance, and long-term value. From the heat to city traffic, regular maintenance plays a critical role. Three essential services every car owner should prioritize are vehicle inspection, wheel alignment, and wheel balancing. Here's why these services are crucial and how to ensure your car runs at its best in Dubai.
Vehicle Inspection Dubai: Why It’s Essential
In Dubai, vehicle inspections are not just routine maintenance—they are a legal requirement. Regular vehicle inspection ensures that your car complies with UAE road safety regulations and is in peak condition to handle the city's diverse road conditions.
During a vehicle inspection, professionals check critical systems like brakes, tires, lights, and engine performance to ensure your vehicle is roadworthy. Regular inspections can help you catch minor issues before they become costly problems. Plus, it's essential to pass inspection if you're selling or renewing your car registration.
Why Vehicle Inspections Matter:
Ensure compliance with Dubai's road regulations.
Enhance safety for you and other road users.
Identify potential problems early and avoid expensive repairs.
Wheel Alignment Dubai: Improve Your Vehicle’s Performance
Wheel alignment is a crucial service for maintaining optimal vehicle performance. Over time, driving on rough roads, potholes, or curbs can knock your wheels out of alignment, leading to poor handling and increased tire wear.
Getting wheel alignment in Dubai ensures that your tires meet the road at the right angle, improving driving stability and fuel efficiency. Misaligned wheels can also make your car pull to one side, affecting your control and safety on the road.
Benefits of Wheel Alignment:
Increases the lifespan of your tires.
Improves vehicle handling and control.
Enhances fuel efficiency by reducing unnecessary tire drag.
Wheel Balancing Dubai: A Smooth, Comfortable Ride
Wheel balancing is another essential service that helps maintain the performance and comfort of your vehicle. It ensures that your tires rotate evenly and that there is no imbalance that could cause vibrations or uneven wear.
In Dubai, where long highway drives and stop-and-go city traffic are common, properly balanced wheels contribute to a smooth ride. Unbalanced wheels can lead to shaky steering and uneven tire wear, which could result in costly tire replacement sooner than necessary.
Advantages of Wheel Balancing:
Provides a smoother and more comfortable ride.
Prevents premature tire wear and extends tire life.
Reduces strain on suspension and steering components.

Why Monthly Car Rentals in Dubai Are the Perfect Solution for Expats?
Relocating to Dubai is an exciting opportunity for expats, but adjusting to a new environment comes with its challenges. One of the biggest concerns for many expats is reliable transportation. While public transport is an option, many prefer the convenience and flexibility that driving offers. This is where monthly car rental in Dubai proves to be the perfect solution.
Flexibility and Freedom
One of the main advantages of choosing a monthly car rental in Dubai is the flexibility it offers. Expats, who may not want to commit to purchasing a vehicle immediately, find monthly rentals to be a practical option. Whether you're in Dubai for a temporary work assignment or still getting settled, a monthly rental allows you to have a car at your disposal without the long-term obligations that come with buying or leasing.
Unlike car leasing, which usually requires longer commitments, a monthly car rental lets you change vehicles or adjust your plans as needed. You can switch to a different model if your needs change, upgrade to a larger vehicle if family or friends are visiting, or simply end the rental when your time in Dubai is over. This flexibility is particularly appealing for expats who are still figuring out their long-term plans.
Affordability and Convenience
Another reason monthly car rentals in Dubai are ideal for expats is affordability. When compared to the cost of leasing or purchasing a car, a cheap car hire in Dubai on a monthly basis can be much more cost-effective, especially for short to medium-term stays. There’s no need to worry about upfront payments, down payments, or car depreciation costs. Rental companies also cover insurance and maintenance, reducing additional expenses for expats.
Moreover, Dubai’s rental companies offer a wide variety of vehicles, allowing you to choose a car that fits your budget and needs. From economy cars to luxury sedans, you can find a vehicle that suits your lifestyle without breaking the bank.
Convenience of Car Rental Services
The convenience of car rental services in Dubai is another big advantage. With monthly car rentals, expats can avoid the hassles associated with long-term vehicle ownership, such as servicing, insurance renewals, and registration processes. These are all taken care of by the rental companies, freeing up time for expats to focus on settling into their new life in Dubai.
Many car rental agencies also provide delivery and pickup services, making the transition even smoother. You can have your rental car delivered directly to your accommodation, allowing you to hit the road as soon as you arrive.
Ideal for Expats on the Go
For expats who frequently travel within the UAE or who may not yet know how long they will be staying, a monthly car rental is a practical and hassle-free option. You can drive around the city with ease, explore the sights, and manage your day-to-day activities without being tied down by ownership responsibilities.
Conclusion
For expats in Dubai, a monthly car rental offers the perfect blend of flexibility, affordability, and convenience. Whether you're staying for a few months or still determining your long-term plans, renting a car on a monthly basis allows you to enjoy the freedom of driving in Dubai without the commitment of buying or leasing. Plus, with affordable and convenient options available, like cheap car hire in Dubai, you can focus on making the most of your time in the city.

How to do Visa Run in Dubai
Dubai is a dream city for numerous travellers be it for tourism, studies, or work. If you have travelled to the city of gold in the past chances are that you have heard of the famous term Dubai visa run, and maybe even wondered what it means. The Dubai visa is usually valid for 30 to 90 days and most tourists return to their home country within this period but some would want to extend their visa. Moreover, people who plan to settle there for work will have to extend their visa or even wait to avail their residence visa. What is the most convenient solution in such cases? Are you supposed to leave the country, renew your visa then fly back to the UAE? Certainly not, because here is where the Dubai visa run comes to your rescue. Want to know more about this popular term? Then just keep reading!
Tumblr media
What is a visa run?
If your visa is about to expire but you wish to extend your visa and stay in Dubai for more time, you can travel to a neighbouring country like Oman, Bahrain, or Muscat, or even visit the border and return to the UAE with a renewed visa . This process of exiting the Dubai and returning again with a fresh visa is known as a Dubai visa run.
What are the different ways of doing a Dubai visa run?
There are two ways to the Dubai visa run – by road and by flight. The most popular way by road is through the Hatta Border crossing that takes you to Oman. You can either drive yourself or book through travel companies that offer a Dubai visa run visa car or bus.
First and foremost you need to have a car insurance coverage in the Sultanate of Oman, along with the vehicle’s original registration papers, and a letter from the owner permitting you to cross the border( in case it is not your own vehicle).
Prior to the UAE exit, there is a customs checkpoint where your car will be checked and you will be issued with a customs ticket. Keep this ticket safely as it is required while processing your visa.
Once you reach the UAE border, proceed to the UAE immigration window where your passport will be stamped for UAE exit. You need to pay an exit fee and also a fine if you have overstayed in the country.
Once you enter Oman, your passport will be stamped for Oman entry and exit after paying the fees.
Get your car customs ticket stamped before commencing your trip back to the UAE. (It usually takes 1-4 hours to receive a new UAE visa)
After reaching the Oman-UAE border, head to the UAE immigration window and get your new visa and entry stamp. Typically a new visa is issued for 30 or 60 days.
The second and the easiest option is the Airport to Airport Visa Change. In this instance, you can  fly to a neighbouring country like Muscat, Oman, Kuwait, or Bahrain and get your visa renewed.
You can fly out of Dubai International Airport or Sharjah International Airport. There are a few minute changes in the visa change process depending on the airport you choose to travel from.
Make sure that you reach the airport at least three hours before the light.
Get your ticket stamped with ‘Visa Change’ and ‘Ok to Accept Pax’ once you make the payment.
Get the UAE Exit seal on your passport once you get the boarding pass. ( This is one of the most important steps as it needs to be sent to your visa service provider)
If you are taking a flight from Dubai International Airport to Oman, you have to wait at the waiting section of the Oman airport until your UAE visa is approved which will take anywhere between 24 to 48 hours. You can board a flight back to Dubai after receiving your UAE visa.
From Sharjah, if you are going to Oman or Bahrain, deplane and  complete all the formalities before taking a flight back to the UAE. The UAE visa approval will be done in around 24-48 hours so you can either book a room in the airport hotel or wait at the airport.
If you are travelling to Kuwait from Sharjah, you stay inside the plane and fly back to Sharjah. But you need to wait at the Sharjah Airport for your UAE visa approval.
Before you leave Dubai Airport or Sharjah Airport, it is essential to clear the immigration procedures and get the Entry stamp on your passport.
Important tips
Just like the first time you apply your visa, you need to carry all important documents like your passport and visa, along with photocopies, passport size photos with all the specifications, Emirates ID, Residence visa, and cash to pay the visa fees and deposit.
You need to have a minimum of six months validity on your passport for a Dubai visa run.
There is a fine for every extra day if outstay your visa validity in Dubai.
Converse politely and respectfully with the border officials as they have complete authority to speed up this process.
If you are travelling with kids but both the guardians are not present for the visa run, please do carry a permission letter from the other parent/guardian.
Conclusion The Dubai visa run process is relatively smooth and should not take more than a couple of days. Instead of doing it yourself, we recommend that you take the help of a reputed agency to complete this process without any hassle.

How can I do POA for selling my car in the UAE?
Tumblr media
A vehicle power of attorney is a legal instrument that allows you to give someone else the authority to handle your car’s affairs on your behalf. In the United Arab Emirates, a vehicle POA can be used for the purchase, sale, import, and export of automobiles, as well as for vehicle registration, renewal, and number plate acquisition. When an expat leaves the UAE, they usually employ a car POA, asking their friends to handle the sale on their behalf.
In a vehicle power of attorney, anyone can serve as an agent. Moreover, you can designate Al Ahram Investment in a vehicle power of attorney as your reliable representative.
Documents Required for UAE Residents:
• The principal’s passport, visa page, and Emirates ID.
• The attorney’s passport, visa page, and Emirates ID
• Any further paperwork or data that, based on the kind of POA, may be needed.
Documents Required for Non-UAE Residents:
• The principal’s passport.
• The attorney’s passport, visa page, and Emirates ID
any further paperwork or information that would be needed, based on the kind of POA.
Powers Included in a Vehicle POA
In the United Arab Emirates, a vehicle power of attorney may contain the following authority:
• Buy and sell an automobile.
• Get money from the sale of a car.
• Register your car.
• Renew a car’s registration.
• Bring a car into the UAE.
• Export a car outside of the UAE.
• Hire a car on a person's or business’s behalf.
• Purchase and renew auto insurance.
• Pay fines for moving infractions.
• Sign papers to transfer ownership of a car.
• Participate in government offices such as the licensing and traffic divisions.
Benefits of a Vehicle POA
The benefits of a vehicle power of attorney in the United Arab Emirates are as follows:
• In the event that the car’s owner is unavailable, the duties pertaining to the vehicle are managed by a power of attorney for vehicles.
• The car’s owner is free to designate a reliable representative to look after his car.
• In the UAE, a vehicle power of attorney can cover any kind of vehicle, including a car, truck, motorcycle, bus, etc.
• By using a vehicle power of attorney, owners can designate the authorities they want to assign.
• A POA for a car reduces owners’ stress. The designated individual will always be accessible to carry out the tasks in accordance with your preferences.
• A single vehicle POA can be used to grant all of a vehicle’s authority.
• A vehicle POA may be granted for an indefinite or limited period of time.
• Vehicle POAs are accepted by all UAE government agencies, banks, and service providers. You can complete all of your transactions with ease by using a single document.
• The POA for the car may be withdrawn at any moment.
Signing Process
The location of the signing and notarization determines the process for both. One may sign the car POA from within or outside of the United Arab Emirates.
Option 1: Signed and utilized POA vehicle in the UAE
Any Emirate’s notary public is able to witness the signing of a vehicle POA. To notarize a vehicle POA, all notaries must adhere to the same procedures. Anywhere in the United Arab Emirates, a car POA notarized by a notary public is recognized and acknowledged.
The Dubai Notary Public offers online notarization.
By using Dubai Notary Public’s online notarization service, you have the option to notarize the car POA online. The vehicle POA can be notarized through the BOTIM app by using this service. The steps are as follows:
• The Dubai notary public must receive an email with the final copy of the vehicle POA as well as the principal’s and agent’s identity cards. The principal’s cellphone number—which is connected to the BOTIM app (Zoom App)—should be mentioned in the email’s body.
• Through a video conversation via the BOTIM app (Zoom App), the notary public in Dubai will confirm the names of the principal and the agent. The POA will be approved by the Dubai notary public after verification.
• The notarized vehicle POA will be issued by the public notary in Dubai. The vehicle POA is available for pickup at the appropriate Notary Public office location.
Notarization Online (Abu Dhabi)
The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department also provides online notarization services in Abu Dhabi (ADJD). The following is how ADJD digitally notarizes a vehicle POA:
• The ADJD portal will receive the vehicle POA upload. Both Arabic and English must be used in the uploaded POA. You must upload the principal’s, lawyers, and legal translator’s identification cards to ADJD in addition to the POA.
• The payment link provided on the ADJD website can be used to pay the notarization costs. After ADJD approves the POA, the payments are made.
• ADJD will use a video call to confirm the principal’s and agent’s identification following the payment of the required government fees.
• You’ll receive an email with a digitally signed copy of the car POA. In the UAE, this digital copy is accepted as an authentic proof of authenticity.
Option 2: Automobile POA signed outside of the UAE but utilized there
You have the option to sign the car’s POA in your home country. For the vehicle POA to be legally accepted in the UAE, it must be attested by each of the departments listed in the following table:
• Place of residence
• Foreign Affairs Ministry
• UAE Consulate
• UAE
• Foreign Affairs Ministry
• Ministry of Justice following translation into Arabic
A car POA signed in the UAE but used outside of the country
In the United Arab Emirates, a vehicle power of attorney may be executed in front of any notary. For the vehicle POA to be deemed legal, it must be notarized by both the company’s embassy or consulate in the United Arab Emirates and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

What  is  no claim  Discount
A discount incentive given for each year without a claim is known as a no claim bonus in the context of auto insurance. Your no claim benefit increases the longer you go without making a claim. You can lower your premium rate by using your no claim incentive.
Compare car insurance quotes:
In the UAE, the car insurance market is competitive, giving you an advantage. Instead of blindly renewing your current policy, take the time to gather quotes. Compare not only the premiums but also the coverage levels, add-ons, and customer service ratings.
Insurancepolicy.ae is one of the most popular online insurance portals, dealing in the best car insurance, health insurance, property-insurance, and life insurance in UAE. This step can help you discover better deals that suit your requirements.
Thoroughly Review Your Policy:
Before renewing, take a closer look at your current policy. Could you get discounts? Make sure your policy matches your needs now, so you don’t pay for things you don’t need or miss out on important protections. There may be some add-on covers that you may not require.
 Think About the Deductible (Excess):
The deductible is the money you pay if you have a claim. This option is not available in individual policies.
Look into Inclusion & Details:
Some insurers offer deals where they provide free car wash, orange card for Oman, or free rent a car.
One needs to look closely at the Table of Benefits and check what is included as you can save money by using these additional benefits.
Embrace Technology:
Many car insurance companies in the UAE have websites for renewals. Use these sites to make things easy. You can upload documents, pay, and manage your policy online.
Get Professional Advice from insurance experts:
If you’re not sure about something in your renewal, ask insurance experts or agents. They can help you understand tricky terms and make smart choices. Insurancepolicy.ae is amongst the leading online insurance portal in UAE.
What will happen if renewal is not done on time?
Driving without valid insurance is illegal in most jurisdictions, including the UAE. If you are caught driving without valid insurance, you could face fines, penalties, or even legal action. Your vehicle may be impounded, and your driving license may be suspended.
How claims reported are treated for fault liability and no-fault liability without insurance?
Fault – If you are involved in a car accident where you are at fault and you don’t have car insurance, you could be held personally liable for the damages and injuries resulting from the accident. In such cases, you would be responsible for compensating the third party/parties for their losses, including property damage, medical expenses, and other related costs and court trial.
Non-Faulty – Meanwhile in a no-fault liability system, if the cause of the accident is not due to your fault (receives a green slip from police), you have to check with the Liable Party Insurance Company eventually for registering the claim.
List of police fines

Additional fines for RTA for delayed registration
