Okay. We all know Saix’s death scene in KH3 is framed in the same way as Xion’s in Days. The thing where they are in a kneel and then fall over into the waiting arms of someone who loves them as they fade away, having chosen to take subversive actions to undermine Xemnas despite knowing the result would be turning into his puppet and having to force their loved one to mercy kill them while making themselves out to be the aggressor so the punches don’t get pulled...

But I only just realized that they have matching lines. They say very different things in those last moments...except for one thing.

Don’t get me wrong I love Vector to the Heavens I think it’s one of my favorite kh boss themes but Xion’s normal theme that I’m not even going to try to spell just hits different. It’s so light and peaceful, this is what I think of when I think of the days trio. This peaceful song that really does just sound like how sea salt ice cream would taste, if that makes any sense

See you caught me at a perfect time for this one. I’m actually playing through Dream Drop Distance right now so everything up to Country of Musketeers is fresh in my mind.

With that being said though, would it be a cop out for me to say Traverse Town? I just love the vibes (and the music) of that place in general and then they add in the TWEWY gang? Man. Plus the reality shift there is just throwing things and I live for that lol

If I have to choose a Disney world tho, I think I’d choose Fantasia. The fact that Sora and Riku sides are both completely different and nice looking and the fact that little chimes play with the music when you swing your keyblade is so fun. Although this opinion might change once I actually play through it lol

Oh no, I have to choose one? Uhhhhhhhh… I’m just gonna exclude anyone who was alive during KHUX for fairness sake (Luxu, Marluxia, and Larxene), because the reason I love them so much is for reasons outside of the Organization, and say Xion.

I love Xion so much. Like she’s 100% my favourite character if you exclude the KHUX cast (although she’d still be above all the Foretellers except Luxu). Like all coherent thoughts go away when I try and talk about her. Unless someone brings a specific scene up it’s just all screaming, crying, and “I love her so much”s.

I just haven’t hyperfixated on her the same way I have about the NULs so I can’t say anything super educated about her lol

Vector to the Heavens:

this track. is just absolutely gorgeous. its a boss version of xion's theme, musique pour la tristesse de xion, and just like that track it uses other character themes, namely kairi and naminé's, and it feels so utterly powerful. its the sort of boss track that makes you not want to fight the boss, but you know you have to.

This is the final song of the final chapter of Celeste. It was composed by Lena Raine

Celeste is full of incredible songs, but the final song of the final level really feels like the culmination of everything, and it's amazing

I know it’s a weird ask but I really want to be able to fight Sora’s friends. I’d love in kh4 to have a limitcut type thing but with Riku, kairi, Donald, goofy, Roxas, etc. I just think it’d be really cool.

1.) Riku. I want the fully evolved form of the destiny islands Riku fight, have him have a dumb ass counter that he spams ever five seconds.

2.) Kairi. Let the girl rip and tear she deserves it. Her reckless teleporting to her keyblade noctis style is also sick as hell I’d love to fight it instead of alongside or as it.

3.) Donald and Goofy. Tag team. Donald zoning out Sora while goofy pressured him, and goofy protecting Donald while he charges up a massive spell. It’d be really cool.

4.) Roxas. The kh2 Roxas fight is one of my favourite in the series and I just want to see how they’ve both progressed.

5.) Axel. Okay so this is the main reason I’m making this post - I want to fight axel, it’s CRIMINAL that he doesn’t have his own theme yet. Every other character on here does, yet he’s stuck with sharing the 13th struggle. Why. Also him stance changing between his chakrams and his keyblade and the fire arena would be sick.

6.) Xion. Any excuse to hear vector to the heavens I’ll take. Also she has one of the best fights in all of kh3 so I want to fight her AGAIN. It’d be so cool if she dons her armour from days and becomes a giant fuckoff gundam as part of her dm too lmao

7.) Terra. We kinda got this in remind but it was terranort so I don’t count it. Also I think the lexaeus boss fight in kh2 is so cool and this is the closest we could ever get to it happening again lol

8.) Ventus. I just really want to see them fight. He’s so quick too I think it’d be Yozora and Xion levels of dancing with your opponent.

9.) Aqua. I want to not be able to make out her or Sora underneath the sheer mass of projectiles she’d release. I need her fight to be a bullet hell. Also she deserves to let off some steam after being trapped in hell for a decade.

10.) Naminé. Dear god please give her something to do. She’s literally done nothing since 2005. Kh3 forgot her so bad they had to make up a scene just to justify putting her on the boxart. I know that she technically has no offensive prowess since her only power is being able to change the memories of people related to Sora specifically, but please oh please just give her something else. Have her become a keyblade wielder. Have Donald teach her magic. Actually that’d be sick as hell, have the witch be incredibly strong at magic without needing a keyblade like everyone and their grandmother. Just please do something with her.

11.) Mickey. Let me beat up Michael. Let him go all out. See who deserves the title of king.

Extras:

Have “hard mode”s where you have Riku and Kairi, Mickey Donald and goofy, Roxas Axel and Xion, and Terra Ventus and Aqua pairing up. Who’d Naminé pair up with? Nomura knows.

Have Cloud, Tifa, and Yuffie grouped up as a fight and it’s literally just them ripped straight from 7 rebirth to its synergy skills and everything.

Yozora rematch? Idk it might be too soon.

I would say to have union cross characters as fights but that’ll probably happen in kh4 anyway. At the very least the lost masters for sure.

so 358/2 days, amiright? heres my thoughts

this game is just. god its an emotional rollarcoaster

i guess ill start with the things i dont like!! which is mostly the gameplay. i dont really mind the mission structure shockingly (i like being able to roam around but having a clear goal makes things easier for my adhd ass, and i think the miniature storylines are very good for the most part) but i simply could Not get into the combat. especially coming off of kh2 it feels so stiff and unfun to play the only part of the game where i enjoyed the combat was fighting riku at the very end. i think the panel system is okay but i dont like that levels take up space. why did they do that.

story-wise, i dont like the retcons!! a lot of the ones i take issue with are very minor but things like roxas only fighting riku once instead of the implied multiple times (even the dialogue doesnt make sense when you change that, why does roxas say 'how many times do i have to beat you' when theyve only fought once?) are the kinds of inconsistencies that just annoy me.

im also a little bit annoyed at the very concept of this game at all. i think roxas worked just fine as a character without this game. it feels sort of unnecessary in the grand scheme of things. also, xion. i love xion, dont get me wrong, but i dont think she adds anything to the series over all. thats not to say she doesnt add anything to this game because shes a great character and i love her, but shes just. kind of like this game in that if you got rid of her i dont think it would really change the narrative so much.

BUT DESPITE THAT ALL!!!!!!!! i fucking ADORE this game. it is genuinely so full of charm and soul that i just cant bring myself to dislike it. i think this is one of the best written games in terms of dialogue. every scene (at least for me) hit exactly as emotionally hard as i think it was meant to. i was laughing at demyx's antics and crying at xions death and yelling at saix and i think thats exactly how the game is meant to be seen.

days at its heart is a slice of life. its working a 9 to 5 its going through a depressive episode its losing friends its grieving its making fun of your coworkers its living. its a game about life and i love that.

this game really did make me forget that axel roxas and xion dont get a happy ending. i spent so much time looking forward to them making up that i forgot that roxas ran away. hell i almost forgot that xion died.

days is emotional and its story and its characters are just so fucking good. the conflicts all felt very real and you can tell exactly where everyones coming from. the way axel roxas and xion fall apart hits so fucking close to home. but god damnit if axel had any good communication skills like half of this could be avoided

its also one hell of a love letter to axel's character. hes always been one of my favorites (he recently earned first place) and i think this game does him a lot of justice. hes trying to do good. he wants to keep everything together he wants to be there for his friends he wants to make things right but he just cant. its just AUGH its so fucking good

that thing about axel's characterization really also applies to roxas. i dont have much to say about him beyond the fact that i think it does his character very well. also tism. hes so autism.

i kind of like the very limited graphics too. sue me i enjoy low quality games. the hands are not animated and they all have two expressions (blinking and not blinking) and their weapons are flat and im living for it. the very few fully animated cutscenes are good too!!

the (real, i dont count riku) final boss is unfortunately very easy. you can just stand directly in front of her and mash a she wont hit you its too easy but vector to the heavens did mess me up a bit. also earlier scene but "ill always be there to bring you back" with the other promise playing over it? fucked me up man. yoko shimomura is once again killing it

i cant believe roxas didnt get to go to the beach.

i have to give this game a 9/10. its writing is incredible but the gameplay could use a lot of work. its just not fun to play. but again the characters, emotions, and music all make up for that tenfold.

Namine draws. Kairi writes poetry/letters. I know Xion is only related to Kairi in the sense that her appearance was influenced by Sora's memories of Kairi, but I feel like she should get a creative hobby involving a pencil, too.

How about composing her own music? Maybe she picks up an instrument and writes her own sheet music by hand. I feel like this would suit her since one of her themes, "Vector to the Heavens", is a ridiculously popular track among Kingdom Hearts fans (as far as I can tell.) In my mind, Xion and music just go together.

Plus, I don't know, I think it slots in nicely with Kairi and Namine's hobbies. Kairi: imagination, Namine: visuals, Xion: sound.

Hi! I'm supposed to be doing schoolwork, so you know what that means: it's time for me to talk about kingdom hearts again!

Y'all remember how Xion was originally treated by the fandom, particularly by shippers? I do. I was in the trenches fighting for my girl's honor while folks who shipped Protag Boy with Best Friend who was ten years older than him slandered her into oblivion. There was literally no Xion content for years. Go to Youtube right now and look up any video that was widely known throughout the fandom (Axel as Dane Cook, which are still classics btw, character Disney themes, trailers for different movies using KH cutscenes, fuckin Invader Zim videos) and I'm willing to bet you money that Xion will not appear in any of them. If she did, it was like "Woah this person really knows their stuff, they've got fuckin' Xion in the vid." But most of the stuff was either people complaining about her being shoehorned in, making her the villain in the AkuRoku stuff, or just the beaten-to-death joke of "Who's Xion?" Maybe we just needed to mature or dive deeper into the story, but by the time KH3 came out, the tune had thankfully changed and she received the hero's Welcome Back she deserved. It's interesting to see the change from completely neglected and ignored character to fandom darling, but if anyone can pull it off, it's her.

I will say though, it is so viscerally satisfying to hear the remix of Vector to the Heavens. It was already a great boss theme. But the KH3 version, with the heavy rock guitar and the war drums, it almost gives off the impression that it isn't just Xion fighting her opponent; it's Xion fighting US. It's her answer to the endless "Who's Xion" jokes: I Will Make You Remember Me. And I Will Cut Your Max HP, Thank You.

Idk. I love her, always did and always will. Character of all time.

OK OK-

So for a bit of background, this is the theme for one of the characters, her name is Naminé and she has powers over memories. The long story short is that she was manipulated by edgy guys in black coats to put herself into a self-insert fanfic with the guy her other half is into. So at this point in the story, she's been rescued from the literal bird cage they stuck her in is now working to undo all the damage she did to this guy's memory. However, the guy she screwed with the memories of also has another half (they're called Nobody's it's a whole thing and it's all really really dumb), and he holds half of the memories they need.

So basically they shoved this kid named Roxas into a computer and now she's working to restore his other half's memories. This is the actually important part. Also sorry if that made absolutely no sense, it's not much better in the actually games...

OK BACKGROUND OVER BACK TO CURTWEN-

So the way I see this edit, it's Curt going back through that night trying to piece it all back together. After Owen fell, knowing Curt he probably got really really drunk. So this is him trying to piece together the events of the night before. It's all a blur to him, he doesn't remember everything Owen said or did, but he's trying to. The song is used in a similar way to this, during Roxas's time in this computer he'd have these strange dreams about his other half, as Naminé tries to piece his memories back together. Curt's slowly placing what happened back into place, trying his hardest to remember all of it. He only remembers the bad, or most of the bad things. He remembers Owen being the cool badass and him being the one who fucks things up. He's going back through this night, letting the memories come back to him, but all he's left with is the bad.

That part doesn't relate as much to kingdom hearts, but if in this case Curt is Roxas to me Owen is an entirely other character who Roxas has forgotten and she's all but been erased from existence, which in some way I think is what Curt would want for Owen. For him to just disappear forever after the fall. He can forget him and live the rest of his life without remembering the person he loved, I think to Curt that's the only way he can really move on, even if he's going to try to.

I kinda have a whole essay I could write about this edit, what I was going for, and why I feel I failed at that.

The song is Treasured Memories from kingdom hearts, by the way. It’s just one of my favorites, hell I could write a whole essay on this one song. Where it is in Kingdom Hearts is important for this, at least I feel that way. I’m not gonna put it all here though
