he  had  succeeded  in  keeping  her  home  for  another  night   .       sweet  words    &    kisses  to  rosy  cheeks  got  one  farther  than  expected   ,   but    sworn  oaths    of  working  together  on  her  case  had  gotten    him    a  promise  in  return   .       (     an  unspecified  one   ,   complete  with  her  signature  smirk   .     )       their  night  had  began  with  three  chick  flicks    &    two  bowls  of  popcorn   ,   then  slowly  escalated  to  wheeze   -   filled  tickle  fights    &    pillow  wars  that  left  seas  of  feathers  on  the  wooden  floor   .

&    here  they  were   ,   hand  in  hand   ,   underneath  what  they  would    [    probably    ]    call  a  pillow  fort   ——-   half  of  the    ceiling    was  caving  in   ,   one  of  the  sofa  cushions  was  being  used  as  a  pillow  to  rest  their  feet  on    ;    &    they  loved  in  silence   ,   communicating  what  affection  in  the  occasional    stroke    to  the  cheek  or  jaw   -   bestowed  peck   .       limbs  were  tangled  in  each  other   ,   heartbeats  connected  in  loving  way   ——-   listen  to  their  brays   ,   how  they  beat  ‘gainst  their  ribcage   .
