On 30 January 1921, the remains of Grand Duchess Elisabeth Feodorovna Romanova of Russia were interred at the St.Mary Magdalene Church on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem along with the remains of her fellow nun Varvara Alexeyevna Yakovleva.

The church was built in 1886 by Tsar Alexander III of Russia to honour his mother Empress Maria Alexandrovna of Russia,née Princess Wilhelmine Marie of Hesse and by Rhine.
