Canon at drupa introduces the varioPRESS iV7 B2 sheetfed inkjet

On 27 May, a day before the official opening of drupa 2024, Canon announced an expansion of its production portfolio with the entry into the B2 sheetfed inkjet market via the varioPRESS iV7, a new inkjet press capable of producing 8,700 B2 4/0 sheets per hour.
The varioPRESS iV7 empowers commercial printers to migrate work from digital presses and shorter runs from offset. Visitors to the Canon stand in Hall 8a at drupa can discover the details of the varioPRESS iV7 in an interactive animation and samples’ display. The first installations of the press in the EMEA region will happen in the second half of 2025.
Building on the proven technology of the varioPRINT iX3200/2100 B3 digital sheetfed inkjet presses, the new Canon varioPRESS iV7 has been engineered to address the increasing pressures of commercial print service providers (PSPs), online and publishing printers, and book producers. The varioPRESS iV7 will join the new varioPRINT iX1700 and varioPRINT iX3200/2100 to create a Canon portfolio of sheetfed inkjet presses.
With a maximum sheet size of  750 x 614 mm, the varioPRESS iV7 offers a B2+ production capability. This enables the production of a diverse range of applications, from magazines, catalogs, books, and marketing collateral to direct mail, postcards, and business cards. With its air-supported, straight and flat paper path and its two-step fixation, the press supports a wide range of coated and uncoated media up to 450gsm, including selected paperboards. The new two-step drying and fixation process, is claimed to reduce deformation and increase print robustness.
The varioPRESS iV7 features 1200 dpi printheads and water-based polymer pigment inks that, combined with Canon’s ColorGrip conditioning liquid, reproduce what is described by the company as a higher quality of color, fine text, and line-work detail. These improvements can be attributed to the multilevel drop size modulation of  different droplet sizes, for both higher print quality and improved ink efficiency. The company states that printers can produce high-quality print that is first-time-right at high speed together with consistent color and less waste. The increased efficiency of the new press is claimed to increase efficiency while reducing overall production costs.
“With a large global base of both web-fed and sheetfed inkjet presses installed, we have accumulated deep expertise that we have channeled into the development of this B2 sheetfed press, the varioPRESS iV7, to address printers’ production challenges and open up further application opportunities,” said Jennifer Kolloczek, senior director, marketing & innovation, Production Printing, Canon EMEA.
“By introducing the varioPRESS iV7 to join the varioPRINT iX1700 and iX3200, both of which we are exhibiting at drupa, we are making sheetfed inkjet printing an attractive proposition for operations with volumes as low as 300,000 A4 images per month up to 4.5 million B2 images per month,” she added.
Canon’s chief marketing officer and senior vice president, Canon Production Printing Peter Wolff commented, “Over more than a decade, Canon is developing production inkjet technologies, and we believe that this machine is setting the highest bar in quality. The press will be available in the second half of 2025.”

Canon to live preview new LabelStream LS2000 digital label press at drupa

Canon has announced its commitment to become a significant player in the label and packaging markets with the first live preview outside Japan of the new LabelStream LS2000 water-based digital label press, set for 2025 availability. This announcement was made during the pre-drupa media conference in Dusseldorf in late March.
The LabelStream LS2000, Canon’s inaugural water-based inkjet label press, leverages innovative Canon technologies designed for industrial-scale label printing. Slated for release in the EMEA region in 2025, this press prints in CMYK plus white on self-adhesive substrates and uses a new ink set compliant with food safety standards. At drupa, visitors can witness live label production on paper and film media, with labels ready for varnishing, die-cutting, and slitting on a nearline converting device from Grafisk Maskinfabrik. Print samples from Canon's Edale FL3 flexographic label press will also be available.
Canon will introduce a concept for a sheetfed single-pass, industrial-scale digital corrugated press, targeting corrugated packaging converters. This press aims to deliver offset-like print quality at a 1.7m print width, productivity of up to 8,000 sqm/hr, and new levels of cost-efficiency. Attendees can view a 3D model, print samples, and technology animations of this system.
For those interested in digital printing on corrugated materials, live production of packaging prototypes and short-run promotional packaging will be demonstrated on Canon’s large format Arizona and Colorado printers. These solutions cater to packaging converters and print service providers, enabling personalized, short-run, on-demand packaging production.
Other attractions at the Canon stand
Apart from the LabelStream LS2000, Canon will showcase several other solutions, including the European debut of the new varioPRINT iX1700 sheetfed inkjet press, which will be available in 2025.
Canon will highlight the latest additions to the ProStream and ColorStream ranges of high-speed, web-fed inkjet printers: the ProStream 2000 series and the ColorStream 8200.
“The ProStream 2000 is 20% shorter than the ProStream 3000, so it makes an ideal solution (11:45) for customers that cannot accommodate the larger press,” Hans Schmidbauer, director, of marketing & innovation, commercial print, Canon EMEA said.
Canon will display the new Arizona 2300 FLXflow flatbed wide format printer with PRISMAelevate XL, the new imagePROGRAF PRO series for photo and fine art printing, and the new imagePROGRAF GP series for poster production.
Rounding out the exhibits on the stand will be Canon imagePRESS V series color printers, the varioPRINT TITAN and QUARTZ series monochrome printers, as well as the Colorado M series and UVgel Print Factory together with Canon large format technical documentation systems – all driven by the comprehensive PRISMA suite of production workflow solutions.

Tecnau Revolution 50 
At the Canon booth (Hall 8A), visitors will witness the integration of Tecnau's Revolution 50 Stack 5251L with Canon's newly announced ProStream 2000. This powerful combination addresses a wide spectrum of commercial print applications, from B2 posters to A6 flyers, showcasing versatility and efficiency.
The variable sheet length feature of the Stack 5251L introduces unprecedented flexibility in application changes, enhancing productivity and short-run production. Additionally, the setup includes Tecnau’s Unwinder u50 and Rewinder r50, offering roll to roll processing for versatile offline finishing possibilities. 
In the Fujifilm stand (Hall 8B), Tecnau presents the Stack 5251L, illustrating the Revolution 50’s ability to seamlessly integrate with various high-speed inkjet presses, including the new Jet Press 1160CFG from Fujifilm. Revolutionizing cut-sheet finishing
The Canon varioPRINT iX3200 printer will be paired with Tecnau’s Stack 1010 in the Canon booth. This combination, first introduced in 2017, has been enhanced to support a 3up output capability, for more efficient production of small A6 postcards.  Stack 1010 streamlines the production process by eliminating the need for a guillotine and associated labor-intensive tasks
Enhancing Book Production  
Tecnau highlights several collaborations aimed at enhancing book production and finishing processes-
Its partnership with Screen (Hall 8A) exemplifies its joint efforts to optimize book production. The combination of the Revolution 50 unwinder/rewinder with the Screen 520HD Mono printer enables efficient production of printed books in black and white, for further finishing on the Tecnau stand in an automated book block productions line.
Horizon Booth (Hall 6): An automated line featuring the Canon varioPRINT 6330 TPxp series cut sheet printer, Tecnau BookReady cut/stack system, and Horizon’s Binder and Three-Knife Trimmer demonstrates a seamless, no-touch process from white sheet to finished book.

Ai Production Printing Business Days si esploreranno modelli di business innovativi e si dibatterà sull’automazione del marketing.
Gli eventi accoglieranno complessivamente circa 1000 visitatori provenienti da tutta Europa, tra cui professionisti del branding e marketing, agenzie creative e di comunicazione, fornitori di servizi di stampa e dipartimenti di stampa aziendali.
I due eventi riuniranno le comunità marketing e dei fornitori di servizi di stampa (PSP) con il proposito di esplorare le tendenze attuali e future del mondo del marketing. One of the leading book printers and exporters, Replika Press has added another digital press to its battery of digital presses that it has built up in the past 15 years in addition to its massive offset printing and binding capacity that extends across its three plants in Kundli in the New Delhi NCR. The newest Canon digital machines to be added at Replika are the ImagePress C10010 VP color press and the high-capacity monochrome VarioPrint 6270 press.

As Replika’s managing director Bhuvnesh Seth told us more than two years ago, many export orders require only 300 copies of a book in each shipment of an order. While the plant has massive multicolor offset and both hardcover and softcover binding capacities with in-line processes, the publishing on demand ecosystem is gaining ground with run lenghts from one to 1,000 in both full color and monochrome books.
Replika produces general books and education on all types of paper. Its enormous capacity for delivering school and higher education textbooks, STM utilizes all types of substrates and binding styles. It is one of the substantial Indian exporters of trade, children’s and coffee table and illustrated text and coffee table books with high visibility at the relevant books trade fairs internationally.
