ok so varian is very cringefail around hugo but hugo is also equally as cringefail bc they have a one sided rivalry

hugo is constantly trying to flirt with him and makes him lil trinkets in the lab but varian thinks he's just being a dick and is showing off, so he he makes hugo even bigger and better trinkets to one up him like "HA! Look at how much more intricate this pocket watch is compared to yours"

meanwhile hugo is just 'aw he made us matching pocket watches'

which lead to a very funny dynamic of hugo thinking that they're kinda sorta almost but not quite dating while varian is just huffy and gay about this guy

Hugo: hey baby, happy one month, i got you something-

Varian: ...excuse me but WHAT the FUCK is going on?

viktor and jayce watch them like fucking lab rats in a maze. they should've fired them ages ago but they put them both down as members in a social experiment to justify keeping them on payroll bc they don't know what these two lil freaks have going on but by god they're gonna be there when these weirdos figure it out.

they're also both from zaun but varian moved up to piltover fairly young so hugo is always calling him a 'paintjob piltie'. painted over all those zaun memories with a fresh coat of piltover privilege
