Our dedicated staff have been working for months on developing and installing a tunnel system to allow our red-ruffed lemurs to have access to the forest while still having an indoor shelter. Last week, all of our hard work paid off when we re-introduced Tsikey, Ravina, and Afo into the forest. 

The tunnel was opened at 10:30 in the morning, giving the lemurs most of the day to explore their new territory.   Tsikey was the first to leave the tunnel, delighting in his return to the forest. Ravina was quick to follow, leaving little Afo to pluck up enough courage to leave the only home he’s known and face a great big adventure in the forest. The trio wandered the forest all day, always with a keeper not far behind monitoring their behavior and making sure Afo was getting along alright. 

The forest gave Tsikey a chance to demonstrate his wonderful fathering skills as he showed Afo how to climb trees, and rescuing his son when he got stuck. After four days of learning, Afo is now more confident in his abilities as a free-ranger.
