Posting a guitar (or other stringed instrument) per day until I forget, work too long, or run out. Quest AP-5-PBL - This is hanging in Ian's room. We decorated it with some Star Wars themed stickers and a sweet @fernandesguitar Boba Fett volume knob. I can't find much about this model or Quest online. It's obviously an LP copy & has a pretty neat built-in speaker that sounds like ...a guitar with a built-in speaker. I forget where I even found the model number. I think this was bought from ShopGoodwill(dot)com before everyone knew about it and drove the prices up. Ha ha. #Vantage update: there is no update! . Hey...I been busy! But I'm looking forward to spending some time this weekend restoring my very first #electricguitar, the 1981 #VantageAV325 "Avenger" (thanks to @johnevansmoto for providing me with model number and year of production...I thought it was an '84 because that is when I bought it It!). . This guitar has not been out of its case in 33 years! The frets are filthy, the strings are filthy...THE KNOBS ARE FILTHY! 😆 I will see if the electronics even work anymore and what shape (literally) the neck is in. #VantageVednesday! 1981 #Vantage #AV325 #Avenger. . After resurrecting my very first #electricguitar from 33 years of hibernation in its case, I have been playing it for the first time in well over 3 decades! I'm not going to pretend it plays and sounds like a '59 burst...but it's a lot better than I thought it would be! The pots are really loose and turn too easily for my taste (no doubt a function of them being incredibly cheap!😆) but the knobs have these ingenious dimples in their tops that makes them easier to grip than your average speed knob. Of course with pots this loose you don't actually need the dimples...but they would work great on a stiffer pot! Next time I restring it (which, based on the historical trends, should be some time in mid 2053!) How many of you still have your first #guitar? Was it as cool as this one?? 😄 . Here's what I dug out from under a pile in the basement yesterday: my very first #electricguitar, a 1984-ish #Vantage "Avenger". Made in Japan by Matsumoku with two splittable humbuckers and a hardtail, adjustable, top-loading bridge. It has a maple neck with brass nut and a comfort-contoured body of some heavily grained mystery wood in a snazzy trans cherry finish. . This was my "axe" between 1984 and 1987. I learned to (sort of) play Eruption and Crazy Train on it! I then upgraded to an all black Ibanez Roadstar with licensed Floyd Rose and locking nut because 1987, and a little later I finally got my first "real" guitar, one of the brand new American Standard Stratocasters that had just started rolling out of the new Fender Corona factory. . All kidding aside, this was a fine enough guitar for the 200-and-something dollars I paid for it new in 1984 (by comparison my #Ibanez was $450 and my American Std #Stratocaster was $699 in 1987) . I played my first few "gigs" with the this Avenger and a Traynor TS20 solid state amp! Of course in retrospect i probably could have bought a custom colour 60s Strat for not THAT much more money in 1984...so basically I'm dumb. 🤣 . I have not played (or even looked at!) this guitar in 33 years. I didn't even realize I still had it. The strings are all rusty! I plan to spend some time cleaning and setting it up and seeing if it still works! First string change since 1987! . I finally got around to fixing up my very first #electricguitar, the 1981 #Vantage #AV325 "Avenger". . This guitar has not been out of its case in 33 years! Swipe to see how dirty the frets were. I'm happy to report that the electronics work fine and the guitar sounds pretty darn good! However, next time I restring it I will shim the neck to get the action a little lower than I can by lowering the saddles alone.
