your favorite ibvs fanmade characters?
I don't know much about fanmade characters aside from friends maybe? If friends count probably cy's or cody's if not then does vantablack count? Even though I don't know anything about them. I just don't know where to look.

What is your opinion about angstvoiid's ibvs Vantablack, if you have one, can you share it? Just interested
Ah yes! I haven't really looked into it a whole lot because I don't tend to fixate on aus of ibvs very often. However, from what I've seen, it looks really cool! I love Angstvoiid's art, and I'm happy to see Isaac get some attention as well! For a main character, he doesn't get much spotlight in the fandom as far as I've seen! I hope they keep working on it! 💪💖
#I keep meaning to look more into it.#But alas#my memory is shit#and i always forget to do so :(#ibvs vantablack#ibvs#ibvs posts#isaac beamer versus the supernatural#isaac beamer

🌚
let's say Chris is trying to apologize to Isaac for what he did with their friendship and regretting that Vantablack took control of Isaac and like Isaac in the hospital room after what happened. But Isaac doesn't accept Chris' apology hand. And supposedly part of Vantablack is still in Isaac, but in a pendant (judging by the cover of the author)
FINALLY FINISHED IT 😭
Isaac walked into the art room, only to be met with Chris waiting for him, sitting on a chair and tapping his foot nervously, he didn’t even hear him open the door. “What are you doing here?” Isaac asked with an eyebrow raised, which Chris flinched and looked up at Isaac. “Oh, uh, hey. I was waiting for you.” Chris replied nervously as he stood up from the chair and awkwardly put his hands in his pockets. “About what.” Isaac said in a deadpanned tone as he approached Chris and stood in front of him, which made Chris clear his throat.
“I just wanted to ask if you were alright from the hospital.. Drew told me everything.” Chris said as Isaac rolled his eyes. “I’m fine.” Isaac said. “I’m sorry.” Chris blurted out right after Isaac. “You’re not sorry.” Isaac replied as he narrowed his eyes at him. “I.. am. I’m sorry, seriously.” Chris replied. “If you were really sorry you should’ve said something in the hospital.” Isaac retorted, leaning closer to him slightly. “I know! I just didn’t know what to say!” Chris replied in a more serious tone which made Isaac’s eyebrows raise. “You didn’t know what to say? Chris.. you had all the time in the world to say sorry. You should’ve been there when I almost got a concussion, and you should’ve been there in the room with me. But no, you were outside the whole time.” Isaac replied as he backed up from Chris. “There’s no way of salvaging this.”
Chris stayed silent. “I’m sorry.” Chris said one more time before Isaac grabbed his arm. Tightly. “Just leave. Leave me alone.” Isaac replied in a stern voice which made Chris shudder. “Yeah, yeah sure. I’m sorry.” Chris ended up apologizing again as he walked past Isaac which made Isaac lose his grip on him as he left the art room in a hurry.
Chris walked down the hallway while taking a deep breath. It’s fine if Isaac didn’t accept his apology, at least he apologized in the first place, right? Chris rubbed his arm where Isaac grabbed him at and paused as he looked at his hand. Ink? Why was there Ink on his hand?…

DO U LIKE IBVS VANTABLACK????
HELL YEAH I DO, I even have a headcanon ending.
Error realizes that Vanta is not the real Isaac and so with Louis help ( aka magic ) he manages to go to a black void and in where is the actual Isaac. ( the black void represent Vanta mind in where the real Isaac is )
Ink seems pretty much emotionless except that he looks like he cried for hours non-stop .
They have some talk and stuff, but Isaac still feels the same. After some time when Isaac explains more and more, Edward starts feeling guilty ( bcuz he was like the last person that held Isaac alive. )
( I think in one post, I read that Edward helped Isaac but later he also leaves him and Ink's mental health goes down a lot more in which he commits it )
Error realized that Vanta is like a parasite that is in Isaac's body ( like for the OG Nightmare ) and just controls him like a puppet.
And there is still hope to be saved, he just needs some help and stuff.
After some time, Isaac feels a bit better and the corruption starts destroying since there is no more energy core that it can feed itself from.
And blah blah, Isaac wakes up in a hospital bed, seeing his parents, Edward and Drew ( Chris is behind the door in front of Isaac's bed since he can't get himself to look at Isaac yet )
And then idk- everything got to me while i listened to some music.
Tbh now, more i imagine the ending be like OMORI good ending, with some changes of course, so it can fit the story.
Isaac fighting with Vantablack and etc etc. So yeah. I LOVE HIM and the idea as a whole!
I kind of moved out of the topic but I wanted to share my headcanon :3

Sunshine murmurs 8 IBVS vantablack uwu Keep up the good writing!
IBVS by @onebizarrekai
“My house and my home don’t match up, and I think it’s killing me.” Nightmare admitted quietly as he leaned into Isaac, a frown appearing on his face. After a moment he hid his face into one of the other’s shoulders.
“What do you mean by that, Nev?” Isaac prompted, a worried frown appearing on his face as he gently rubbed the other’s back, trying to be consoling.
“I don’t… I don’t know why, but I keep seeing a massive apple tree in my dreams… Half with black apples, the other half with yellow. Both sparkle and shine in the sun, and I’ve got to protect it, alongside Drew… Other times I see this really scary-ass gothic castle with faceless figures coming and going at my command.” Nevin responded, shuddering a little.
“.. Does the black castle have like eight levels? Carved of pitch black stone and emanates malice?” Isaac asked, a small frown appearing on his face.
Nightmare nodded “Yes, how did you know that?”
“I’ve seen it in my dreams too… Hang on I’m pretty sure I’ve sketched it before…” Ink scrambled for his sketchbook, going through the pages at a near-frantic pace, almost tearing a couple of pages in his haste. “Aha! Here it is. Does it look like that?”
There, sketched in pencil and rubbed in charcoal, was the castle Nightmare could swear he knew so very well “Yes… Exactly like that… Weird.”
Ink nodded in agreement “Yeah… Error snatched my sketchbook when he looked over my shoulder as I was drawing that. He recognizes it too. Cross does as well… Has Drew mentioned anything about a creepy castle?” Ink hummed - there were more people than the five of them… A bright blue scar, silver knives, a long bone and a chipped but well-cared for axe flashed through his mind. But they faded just as quickly.
“I… I’ll ask him. Drew’s still mad at me for nearly throwing Edward through a wall… But I’m pretty sure he’ll still talk to me…” Nevin grumbled “I didn’t know that Quinton had asked to kiss him beforehand. Presumptuous ass.” The two of them went on to talk about lighter subjects, though The Castle lingered between the two of them silently.

Hisame’s Raffle Prize
Hey, look what finally got done! This was my first attempt at writing ibvs, so I’m a little nervous about how it turned out. But I think it went okay and I hope you like it, Hisame. Sorry I’m not tagging you immediately, I’m trying to use this fic as an experiment to see why my last two fics didn’t show up in searches; the running theory is, in addition to not being allowed to swear in the tags, you also can’t say the f-word at all in text. Anyway, I’ll dm it to you so I know you find it. And so, I hope everyone enjoys! EDIT- Experiment confirmed: You can’t say the f-word in anywhere on tumblr anymore, whether it be tags or text. Tagging Hisame now.
“What happened to your face?” Perhaps that wasn’t the best way to start a conversation, but Isaac didn’t feel the need to adhere to typical conversation etiquette. The angry twin, Nevin, he remembered, glared at him with an eye that was rapidly swelling. He also had a split lip and generally looked roughed up.
“That bastard Quinton,” Nevin spat, wiping away the blood from his mouth. “The coward attacked me with his cronies watching, so I couldn’t use my powers against him.” Isaac grit his teeth; the beginnings of purple bruises were appearing on Nevin’s face.
“Do you want some ice or something? My place isn’t far.” Isaac wasn’t entirely certain why he offered, maybe he didn’t want the guy bleeding in the street or maybe he thought that Nevin would go seeking revenge on Edward if left him to his own devices, but at least Nevin seemed as confused about his offer as he did.
“Why?” The glare hadn’t lessened in the slightest and Isaac suddenly remembered just how little he knew about the other. “What reason could you have for wanting to help me?”
“Because I have a soul? Look, I hate Error about as much as you do,” Nevin snorted at that, “and I enjoy doing things that would piss him off. You also look like you just got mugged, so can you just accept my help without questioning it?” The other was silent for a moment afterwards before he finally spoke again, voice much softer and quieter.
“Okay.” Isaac let out a sigh before turning around.
“Come on. My place is just around the block.”
“Piece of shit Quinton,” Nevin hissed and grit his teeth as Isaac helped to clean his split lip, “The instant I can catch him without witnesses, he’s going to regret it.” Isaac rolled his eyes.
“Or maybe, you could not do that.” The glare Nevin gave him was much less threatening with one eye behind an ice pack.
“I thought you didn’t like Error.”
“I don’t, but that doesn’t mean I think beating him up behind the school is a good idea.” Isaac finished up with what he could do for Nevin’s wounds and sat back. The other boy had a look on his face that said he knew Isaac was right but didn’t like it.
“You know, since he used witnesses against you, how about trying to use them against him?” Nevin raised an eyebrow at that, but he seemed interested. “Your strength means you could jam his locker door or something. If it’s in the school, it just looks to everyone else like bad luck.”
“And he couldn’t say it was me without looking crazy.” An evil grin spread across Nevin’s face. “That’s great! A terrible case of bad luck and he has to stew in the truth that he can’t share.” The black-haired boy started to stand and his ice pack began to slide away before Isaac stopped him.
“Don’t get up, keep icing that eye.” He opened to a blank page in his notebook and took out a pen. “I can write while we brainstorm.” Nevin blinked at him, puzzled.
“You… want to help?” Isaac gave an evil grin that almost outshined Nevin’s earlier one.
“I did say I didn’t like Error. I’d enjoy knocking him down a peg or two.” Nevin remained puzzled for only a few moments more before his enthusiasm returned twice as strong. “Error’s series of unfortunate events. Sounds good?”
Nevin snorted and mumbled something about ‘that show’ before moving closer to Isaac and beginning to pitch ideas. Isaac wasn’t certain why he noticed so sharply that he and Nevin were almost touching.
Hey, Isaac,
The alert made Isaac look at his phone. The ID said ‘Nightmare’; Nevin had told Isaac about that old nickname and the artist felt it fit the strange boy.
I’ve been thinking about the finale. I’m thinking it should be something big, something public, but also something that Error know it’s from us while the rest of the school doesn’t.
Another text came through quickly.
That is, if you’re okay with him knowing you’re involved in this. If not, we’ll just have him know it was me.
They’d started their campaign a couple days ago; Edward was suddenly finding himself with unfortunate and repeat cases of exploding pens in his bag, jammed lockers, and black stains. Isaac could see him growing more and more frustrated with every incident that happened to him, and giving Isaac dark looks whenever he spotted him. Isaac had taken to avoiding the art room just to make sure that Edward couldn’t pull him into another closet.
I’m cool with it, Isaac sent back, we can work out ideas for what to do this afternoon.
That was another part of his routine that had changed. Ever since the first day, Nevin had been coming over every afternoon they could manage and they’d been planning together. Isaac had found himself enjoying the other boy’s company far more than he’d thought.
A soft snort made Isaac quickly glance over to the desk next to him, hiding his phone in a panic. Chris stared back at him with a look of complete amusement. Isaac sighed and tried to calm his racing heart.
“So,” Chris leaned in with a grin that spelled nothing but mischief, “you and Nevin are getting pretty close, huh?”
“Yes,” Isaac drew out the word in suspicion, “I’m helping him with something.”
“Something that requires you to meet practically every day?” There was something in Chris’ tone that made Isaac feel, not threatened but definitely uncomfortable. He felt almost like he’d been caught in a lie or had a secret slip out.
“It’s something he wants done properly, so we’re spending a lot of time on it.” Chris sat back at that and didn’t say anything for a while. It was almost long enough for Isaac’s attention to drift away.
“Do you like him?”
“No.” The answer came quickly, too quickly. Chris raised his eyebrows in disbelief.
“Is that your real answer, or just what you think you should say?” Isaac glowered at his friend before turning away. He heard Chris eventually give up and turn back to his own work, allowing Isaac to pull out his phone again. He had several messages from Nevin, the last asking ‘Something up?’
Isaac hesitated briefly before shaking himself and replying with ‘Chris was just being a jerk, don’t worry about it.’ Chris’ question remained in his head for the rest of the day, and Isaac found he couldn’t find a proper answer for it.
Afternoon came and Isaac found himself sitting in his bedroom with Nevin planning out tomorrow’s Error Unfortunate Events. The smaller was excitedly scribbling ideas so quickly that they were hard to read and talking about as fast as he was writing. Who knew the thing that would get the dark kid all excited like a preschooler was causing misery to someone else? Isaac had been quiet that afternoon, Chris’ question from before still in his head. Was he saying no because that was truly how he felt, or was he saying it because it’s what he was expected to say? And so, Isaac had spent the afternoon mostly silent, just watching the other. Of course, Nevin had asked why when he noticed Isaac was so quiet but he’d just told the other that he was tired. Surprisingly thoughtful, Nevin had asked if Isaac wanted to do this another day; ‘giving Error a day of false hope before starting again’, he’d added.
But that would only be putting off finding the answer he wanted, so he’d said no. And now he observed, waiting for his answer to reveal itself. The more he watched, the more he noticed things. Things like the sparkle of mischievous excitement in his eyes, or the way his free hand gestured enthusiastically with his speech. And it brought to mind other things like his smug grin when the first unfortunate event in their plan went off without a hitch, or the laughter he let out when Isaac had drawn a plan for an idea and included a grumpy and intentionally badly drawn Edward.
Nevin eventually noticed that Isaac was staring at him and turned to look at him. “Are you sure you’re okay?” It was said surprisingly softly, and was that a glimmer of concern? Isaac felt his heart rate starting to pick up, and the pieces that had slowly been fitting themselves together in his mind came into stark relief; finally, an answer. Nevin was still looking at him, waiting for his own answer. Well, if there was one thing Isaac definitely wasn’t, it was a coward.
Isaac leaned forward, and his lips met Nevin’s. The other boy was frozen stiff for several moments, long enough for Isaac to start worrying that he’d made a mistake, before leaning into the kiss himself. They parted soon after, Isaac could feel his heated cheeks and, looking over, it was clear that Nevin had flushed cheeks to match. They sat in silence for a moment, processing what had happened, before Nevin broke it with a chuckle.
“Well, if you’d wanted to kiss me, you only had to ask.” Isaac felt the last bits of worry melt away with that statement.
“So, you’re not mad?” The other shook his head in a negative before shuffling closer to Isaac.
“Nope.” He popped the ‘p’ with a wide grin. “Pretty damn thrilled about it, actually.” He flopped onto Isaac, grin still wide with mischief. “I hope that wasn’t a one-time thing, I’ll be pretty upset if it was.”
“Uh, sure. If you want there to be more.” Isaac wrapped an arm around Nevin to help support the other’s body weight and Nevin continued his scribblings. They were in silence for a few moments more. “Does… this mean we’re boyfriends?”
Nevin looked up at him and gave Isaac the very first small and genuine smile he’d seen from the other. “Yeah, boyfriends sounds nice.”
Nevin’s laughter rang in his ears as they watched Edward’s locker explode with black goop/ink. It only got more intense as Edward realised the little calling card they’d made for him inside and screamed in anger. Isaac joined Nevin in laughing when he heard one of the minions say something along the lines of ‘nope, this is conjuring shit, I’m out’. That told Isaac all he needed to know if he’d worked it perfectly; at the back of Edward’s locker, the ink would have formed the letters ‘N’ ‘I’.
Realising that Error’s face was now apocalyptic and was gazing vaguely in their direction, Isaac decided it would be smart to get out of there and took his boyfriend’s hand to lead them away; Nevin didn’t seem to be in any condition to walk on his own at the moment. Isaac heard the distinct sounds of Edward blaming the two of them for the mess, and knew the entire plan had come to fruition when another student asked ‘are you trying to claim they have witchcraft powers?’
How Isaac wished that he could see Edward’s face when they said that, he certainly heard them go very quiet, but he supposed he’d have to settle for a sense of a job well done and maybe a kiss from his boyfriend too; once his boyfriend was able to breathe again, that is. It looked like it might be a while.

Wanna ramble about an AU with one of your F/Os maybe?
DO I!!!
Apparently I fall romantically in love with almost every AU version of Ink I come across. My discord friends and I sometimes joke about Kay forming an Ink harem and I even came up with a Helltaker kind of AU that takes place in the Multiverse (even tho I’m not poly irl)- but anyways
I have a whole list of my favorite AU Inks!! There’s Chronicle, Empireverse, Dreamswap, Parable, Lofiverse, Fresh, Skittles, Vantablack, Gaster Ink, Geno Ink, Grey, Cherry blossom, Howl, Apollo, AI, Pale, my friend’s Gastale Ink, and my own Human AU Ink (Isaac)! There’s probably so much more people can show me that I would fall in love with immediately.. and this is just a trimmed down list!
If I ever get the time, I want to draw more AU versions of Kay to self insert for different Inks 👀
#I actually have an art thing to post soon that is similar to what I just mentioned 😳#oh boy haha#ask#selfshippinglover

Light is but a small part of a much, much bigger electromagnetic spectrum of radiation that we can’t see. The spectrum includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared light, visible light, ultraviolet, x-rays and gamma rays, but only visible light, which we interpret as colors, can be seen. Different colors are basically light at different frequencies, which travels through space in the form of waves. The closer together these waves are the higher the frequency. Radio waves have the smallest frequency and the biggest wavelength, while gamma rays are the reverse. To experience color in all its beauty we need a source of light like a flashlight, your TV screen or the sun. We also need a hard surface for light to bounce off of and someone to see it. Without an observer to acknowledge it, color would not exist. And it’s hard to imagine how we would have survived without it, considering colors help us differentiate, say, blackberries in a thick bush from the bear sleeping in tall grass a couple feet away.
#1 The Visible Light Spectrum Light is basically invisible energy traveling through space. For us to see it, light must go through dense particles of dust, smoke or water vapor in the form of clouds or mist. We can also observe it when it’s hitting something hard like a tree, a hand or the moon and reflects back into our eyes. Other than that it’s as if nothing’s there. Sir Isaac Newton discovered that when allowing a beam of light to travel through a prism it refracts into colors that always go in the same order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Our retinas contain two types of light sensitive cells, rods and cones. The rods are used to detect light intensity and brightness while the cones are responsible for color vision. We have three types of cones capable of recognizing red, green and blue. These are the primary colors, and combining any two will give us the secondary colors of green, cyan and magenta. All these hues in different combinations and intensities give us the many colors that we know and see every day. Let’s say that the entire electromagnetic spectrum is the distance between New York and L.A., around 2500 miles. With that scale, the visible light spectrum would be about one inch long. That’s how much of the world we’re not seeing!
#2 The Need for Darkness J.W. Goethe observed that by looking through a prism color forms around darker objects against a light background. This coloring always happens as a transition from white to black going through yellow and red, from black to blue violet or from turquoise to white. Overlapping these two boundaries are the secondary colors or inverted spectrum. Color tends to form as a contrast between light and darkness. On one side we have warm colors such as red and yellow going from white to black, and on the other we have cold colors like blue and violet that go in reverse from black to white. When you watch a perfect sunset do you notice what array of colors appear on the evening sky? The sun becomes reddish as it nears the horizon, engulfing the landscape in an orange haze, while shadows become longer and longer until they’re one and the same. Due to the angle of the sun, its light has to travel through more of the lower, denser atmosphere. The color red is actually a dimming of bright light traveling through much more stuff. If we turn around from a sunset we’ll see the Earth’s shadow. The bright blue sky is gradually transforming into darker blue, indigo and violet as it meets the horizon. The more light there is in the air the brighter the blue. What we’re really seeing is the dark and emptiness of the cosmos as different shades of blue through the white light of the sun!
#3 Colored Shadows If we look at a window for a couple of seconds and then close our eyes we’ll see its negative — a light frame with a dark exterior. This experiment can be done with colored objects as well. Each color has a complementary one. Red has cyan, green has magenta and blue has yellow. If you illuminate a vase with two sources of light a short distance from one another, the vase will have two shadows. If one of those light sources shines a red light the opposite shadow will turn red because red light falls on it, but its own shadow will become cyan. If we could somehow isolate that shadow from its surroundings and look at it on its own we’ll see that it’s actually gray like a shadow should be, but in the context it’s an optical illusion.
#4 What Color Do Objects Really Have? It all depends on light. Colored lights make up the visible spectrum but objects are not made of light. Let’s say you have a green shirt. You go outside and it’s still green. What happens if you go inside a room with red light? What color is it then? Normally red and green combine to create yellow but here we have a red light and a green pigment. Green pigment is made out of blue and yellow dyes which don’t reflect red, so the shirt is black. It’s also black if it’s in complete darkness, along with everything else that has no contact with light. For another example, what makes a banana look yellow? When white light hits the banana all hues get absorbed except for yellow, which is reflected back into our eyes. In a sense bananas are every color except yellow, because we observe what’s reflected back at us. And what is everything but yellow? Its complementary color, blue! A banana is theoretically blue! We say theoretically because in order to have color we also need to have an observer. Color is not a property of an object; it’s merely an interpretation of the mind based on invisible waves at different frequencies.
#5 Pink If we look at a light color wheel we see both the primary and secondary colors in alternative order. Each secondary color is produced by combining the neighboring primary colors. By combining red and green light we get yellow, green and blue equals cyan and if we combine red and blue we have pink. Did you ever wonder why there’s no pink in a rainbow? The answer is simple — there’s no pink light! There’s yellow and cyan light, but no pink. That’s because red and blue are at opposite ends of the visible spectrum. By going full circle on this and combining these two colors we actually include the enormity of the entire electromagnetic spectrum into the visible one. Pink basically represents everything in the universe that’s invisible to us.
#6 Vantablack We all know that black makes us look sophisticated and has the added bonus of slimming us down. But have you heard about the new black, Vantablack? It’s like looking into a black hole! As strange as it sounds, it’s almost impossible to see and we can only make it out because of its background. We see its edges but when looking straight at it it’s as if you are looking at nothing. Not black, not something very dark, nothing. It absorbs all but 0.035% of visible light — for comparison, dark coal almost never gets below 0.5%. Vantablack was recently invented by English scientists and is going to be used in designing stealth aircraft and advanced weaponry. But its main use is in astronomy and space exploration, where sensitive telescopes need a very black surface to be able to detect with great clarity and precision distant stars and galaxies. We can see pictures of this material on the Internet because we’re looking through a light emitting monitor, but the scale of darkness is nowhere near to the kind of utter void that it truly is.
#7 It’s My Red, Not Yours! If you and your friends are watching someone in a red dress, were you aware that they might be seeing something totally different from you? What you see as red your friends might see as what you know to be blue or green. But all of you have come to know it as red, so you call it red! But how would you know? What questions would you ask your friends to find out if all of you see the same thing? Keep in mind that as you came to know your red, they came to know theirs in exactly the same way! There are thousands of people who have different types of colorblindness that prevent them from seeing red, green or blue light, and we know that they see things differently from most of us. But what if we all see differently from one another? Ultimately we’re all alone in our minds. We all have our different realities, which may explain why one friend likes the red dress while the other thinks it’s hideous.
#8 The Forbidden Colors By using red, yellow, green and blue in different combinations we can describe all the other colors in the visible spectrum. Purple, for example, can be described as reddish blue, lime as yellowish green, orange as reddish yellow and turquoise as bluish green. But how do you call something reddish green? What’s the name for bluish yellow? Don’t simply mix these two colors together like you’re a four year old scribbling in a coloring book — imagine a color that’s part green and part red, or one that’s both blue and yellow at the same time. Not having any luck? That’s because those colors don’t theoretically exist, and thus are called forbidden. Everything comes down to how we perceive color. The cones in our eyes detect red, green and blue at different wavelengths. These wavelengths sometimes overlap. When green overlaps with red we usually see it as yellow, but if the frequency is not that of yellow light then it’s either green or red. It can’t, however, be both at the same time. The same principle applies for both blue and yellow colors. This idea must have bugged Hewitt Crane and Thomas Piantanida, because in 1983 they made the unimaginable possible! By doing a set of experiments they managed to bring to life colors without a name. They created images of red and green (and yellow and blue) stripes next to each other. By making sure that light from each color only activated the same individual cones, over time the colors started blending together to form something never seen before! Even though volunteers were aware they were seeing totally different colors, they found it extremely hard to describe them. They were essentially the first people to witness something new.
#9 What Do Animals See? We’ve all heard that dogs are colorblind and that bats are completely blind, but that’s not entirely true. Bats can see, just not well, while dogs are only colorblind from our perspective. We have three color receptors, while dogs have only two. They can’t see red. Would a squid that can only see in blue consider a dog colorblind? Snakes can see very little “normal” color but can see in infrared, while bees can see in blue, yellow and ultraviolet. Remember how infinitesimally small our visible light spectrum is compared to what’s really out there? Just try to imagine a brand new color — it’s impossible. Or imagine trying to explain to someone who’s been blind their whole life what red looks like. You could say that it makes you feel warm and you associate it with passion, but what would they really understand or imagine red to be? They could know everything there is about light and color and it would still be as a foreign concept to them. There just aren’t words that allow someone to grasp the true meaning of something they haven’t experienced for themselves, which is known as an explanatory gap. For example, some butterflies have our three color receptors and then an extra two: red, green, blue, ? and ?. We’d say just imagine the possibilities, but the whole point is that you can’t.
#10 Light Is Personal You’ve probably heard people say things like “Oh, you have a beautiful purple aura!” or “You’re simply glowing!” It turns out there might be some truth to that. Scientists from Kyoto University have discovered that people actually emit visible light, but it’s 1000 times less powerful than what the naked eye can see. They’ve also discovered that we reach maximum “aura” brightness at about 4:00 pm because it’s a byproduct of our metabolism involving free radicals. The greater the distance between a light source and an observer the dimmer the light is. That’s not because light gets lost on the way or gets absorbed by different objects, but rather because the energy of the light is spread out over a larger area of space. We see the sun equally as bright from all angles because light travels in all directions in equal amounts. Over time and at greater distances light gets more and more spread out until it becomes billions of single photons traveling in all directions. Light also carries information. That’s how we know where other stars and galaxies are, what they’re made of, if they’re coming towards or moving away from us and what they were doing millions of years ago. The same rules apply to our own personal light — it will travel in all directions through the emptiness of space, possibly even going past the visible universe. It will never stop, and it will carry a tiny part of you with it.
