had enough energy while recovering for some quick headshots, so i did a spin on that 'give me 6 clangens' thing & just drew some characters from different comics i've read & been inspired by c:

WILDFIRECRY (@loudclan-clangen) - im still not recovered from You Know What but his revenge bit was both badass and cathartic. the artists who can commit to character deaths are always really impressive to me!

HERONSTAR (@juniper-clan) - i've been dying to draw heron since she got her adult glo-up, i think her design is really fun. simple & strikingly effective! her very specific fur design was a nice challenge (i hope i got it right).

SNAILSTEP (@snailstep-and-her-clan) - i couldn't not draw the titular girl, especially when she inspired me to start this blog!! i really love her wild mane of fur so much & it was delightful to draw.

RUNNINGSTAR (@darkest-before-dawnclan) - i had a hard time picking just one character since they're all so interesting & well designed... but i ended up going with an as-yet only briefly shown character bc i really vibed with him!

VANILLABRIGHT (@moons-of-dewclan) - i don't know if i could ever do these characters justice, but dewclan is a longtime fav, and i love seeing other adult warriors fans, haha. i know the comic is kind of on hiatus, but i look forward to seeing whatever comes next!

CLOWNWISH (@circus-clangen) - absolutely a must-draw here, the setup for this clan is so unique & fun & the puzzles are just so creative! i haven't solved a single one bc i suck at puzzles, but still a huge inspo for me.

i'm always excited to see what other clangens pop up in the tags, i know most of these are more popular ones, but i'm hoping i get to draw fanart of some off the lesser-known ones soon!

VANILLABRIGHT!! I LOVE HE his design is different from the last page, a bit. i wanted to simplify speaking of which, every page i remind myself i can choose not to draw backgrounds. and then .... i forget and i add more detail every time Moon 0 Moon 4 (pt 1) - Moon 5

Spent the past week nodding stardew <3 every single day there is a new update to one mod or twenty (I have. 500+. Normal amount.) so I. Have to redo. The configs. Whoo. But! I have. I think. Sorted out the portrait situation so now I can actually see them ♡ I'm sure the vanilla artstyle is lovely to those that can see it butttttttt well pixels give me migraines. And I can only stand 20000% saturation for so long. Very sorry. ♡ anyway. It looks Mostly pretty but I have some Problem Tiles and I'm gonna.... sigh.... have to go looking thru random ass tilesheets to find out why certain squares are still vanillabright. Boo. Oh well.

Maybe post a screenshot tomorrow and shout into the void for aid..... maybe...

Out of curiosity, how many times has one of your favorites died? Darkpaw died once in Surfclan and I reset that so fast, I couldn't stand losing my sea urchin baby.

antler you're so valid. and with your question i'm about to confess something.... snff... after my first playthrough, i played up to moon 50 and then entirely restarted from moon 16?? i think?? AND DO YOU KNOW WHY!!!.. VANILLABRIGHT AND NETTLE d I E D. NOW is this absolutely doable and could that make for a great plot?? YES!! am i absolutely insane and unable to force my characters in an even slightly out of character direction- ALSO YES!! Lyre would have 100% just withered away. he's not well enough to trudge on with no support system. and,, i'm not well enough to write normally apparently LKASDLKN?? so i couldn't just write him recovering from that bc 'i knowww he couldn't' I FORCED IT ANYWAY and the result was a very inauthentic feeling (moreso than tailoring the events), and heavily depressing story where the main happy point was lyre dying of old age and reuniting with nettle. and i said 'wow i don't wanna draw this lmao' SO!! i decided to restart instead of just putting the comic down. and i transferred my cats over and i've been more careful with patrols. i love the drama that clangen can bring with random deaths, but i love my characters too, and my main enjoyment in story writing is writing characters recovering from or overcoming harshness, not just experiencing that endless pain. SO I DON'T.. WANNA HIT EM WITH THAT MUCH At least not that soon lmao HAHAHA (i am still Kind of Evil) i have ignored a few deaths bc they seemed weirdly out of pocket too tho. ONE OF THE KITS GOT EATEN BY MICE????? NO LAKSND

Uhh I’m sure you’ve been asked this before but!!! Do you have any advice for making a clangen comic? I’m kinda doing a disaster clan but in intervals of 5 moons, and I can’t fit in the specific prompts on one image (and I’m too lazy to draw like 5 pages) so uhmmm do u have any advice? :3

The reason I go in intervals of five is because I’m a curious guy and I draw and play clangen on separate devices so uhhh oh god am I oversharing I’ll shut up now

MY TIPS WON'T BE GREAT bc my whole art experience is 'do what i want when i want how i want and if it's not fun i don't do it' SO IT'S NOT A TECHNICAL THING BUT LKASNDLKASD I CAN TRY!! what's been good for me in clangen is, • always mark down your seasons! bc it sucks to forget what season the event took place in when you go to draw it • don't shove every tiny prompt and event into a moon if you don't want to (it's a lot of work..) • it's ok to have a clan of 40 cats and only follow 1 or 2 main characters. if the pressure if the amount of cats you end up with is too much, IGNORE EM. + silhouettes are ok if you wanna imply a full camp. use stamps even • IF an event happens that you think is going to have a damper on your enjoyment for the comic (like if your favourite cat dies), RELOAD AND PRETEND IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. authenticity is not Real in media you make for fun. unless it's fun for you for favourite main character BillyBreeze to kick the bucket to a random event, you don't have to save and go with it. if it makes you go 'euuhh..' and not 'NOOO!! (smiles in hidden)', 'ok' or 'OHOHO ;)) OMG COOL', screw it. never put anything above your muse and inspiration. • which brings me to, save after every event you like happening! so patrol events, or something. in case randomly something rly weird happens that doesn't make sense with the story or what your cat would do, you can just restart • if you develop your cat, and they do something wildly out of the personality you developed/hc for them, you can ignore it in favour of character consistency (I WILL NOT LIE, i wanted to 100% never change or refuse anything in the game, but i changed lyre's personality after the prompt came up saying that he MAULED VANILLABRIGHT FOR DOUBTING HIS LEADERSHIP. ARE U INSANE HE WOULD NEVER. plus character development is allowed, even if ingame events don't represent it well. so do what you gotta do. game files are easy to change!) • FOLLOW THAT LAZINESS. and follow fun. do what will keep you having the most fun through the entire thing. if you wanna end at 30 moons, do it. if you wanna stop and restart and do a different idea, do it. your own enjoyment matters most. so the second you go 'ugh i don't wanna'- DON'T. whatever it is, don't. nobody is paying you for this, do what you want. (unless they are paying you for it.. then damn, lucky)

Ahhh! The babies! How'd Lyrestar pick their names?

Lyre only named two! Lyre named Frost and Shine, and then Vanillabright named Wren, and Spark was named by Nettlepaw. :3 the names were randomly generated but i decided that Vanilla thought it would be nice for Wren to have a bird name like Lyre, Nettle thought that Spark matched 'Shine' and 'Frost' nicely bc they're all 'bright' AND SPEAKING OF BRIGHT, Lyre secretly named Shine after Vanillabright bc.. 'bright', 'shine'. U KNOW?? and Frost's named after... Someone. (mysterious music)
