#vandalhearts is a Strategic Roleplaying for the mighty #playstation1 games console, fabled #segasaturn and #microsoftwindows . It was developed by #konamicomputerentertainmenttokyo for the #ps1 , #konamicomputerentertainmentnagoya for the #saturn , and #konamientertainment Aoyama for #windows . This version is the #playstation1game . It was published by #konami . It was released for the #playstationone in Japan in 1996, and North America/E.U in 1997. The #sega Saturn got it in Japan only in 1997. South Korea alone got it for #mswindows in 1998. This game features beautiful sprite scaling 2d sprites, 3d environments, and epic graphical effects for the magic. It is my favourite of the series for reasons of nostalgia alone. The story has #ashlambert and his squad in #ishtaria doing missions and fighting battles. I won't spoil a thing. Ash Lambert is a member of the Ishtarian Security Force. Attempting to keep the peace between nobles and bloodthirsty peasants, a shadowy figure emerges to reclaim power. Ash must choose his side on this grand adventure full of friends, foes and classic RPG tropes.⁣ ⁣ Like many turn based strategy games, Vandal Hearts doesn’t stray far from tradition. Multiple characters offer classes such as archers, mages and warriors to customize your battle party. Each can be upgraded after level 10 and 20 respectively. Towns house equipment upgrades and the bar for local rumors.⁣ ⁣ The art is refreshing and unlike anything I’ve seen in most games. The characters, specifically the faces, have elongated pointy designs that grew on me. Sprites are crisp and highly detailed. Shading and colors are well done too.⁣ ⁣ Environments are colorful and varied. When defeating a foe, an exaggerated blood fountain erupts from the sprite as it vanishes into thin air. This made me chuckle at the sheer absurdity each time it happened. Spell effects are wonderful and creative. Some of the higher level spells take up the entire battlefield and are quite the spectacle.⁣ ⁣ “Burning Sorrow”, “Harbor City Ports”, “Warlock”, “Village of Testha” and “Bygone Days 3” are pleasing to my ears. Out of the three composers for Vandal Hearts, the tracks composed by Miki Higashino (Suikoden 2) standout greatly. The other tracks such as “Enemy Turn” and “Ruins” I found dull and especially repetitive.⁣ ⁣ Vandal Hearts is an excellent RPG that will delight any fan of strategy titles like Final Fantasy Tactics or Ogre Battle. It’s short, sweet and full of charm. It’s not too difficult nor needlessly complex.
