Note
im writing a spanish vampire story. i had to tell someone. if you have any spooky spanish legends you think i should include ... let me know. (i'm already including la santa compaña).
The only one I know for sure is La Llorona and the Chupacabra
I believe there's also a bird woman called La Lechuza [la lechuza is another word for "owl" - specifically it's owls with a flatter face rather than el búho]
If I recall correctly, La Lechuza is a kind of owl-witch woman [I think this is mostly Mexico] who leads people into the forest by mimicking baby noises. Though should also say that in some places "Lechuza" is like calling a woman a hag or crone
...
And this isn't so much of a legend as a historical quirk but La Vampira del Raval is sort of up there with Elizabeth Bathory as far as local maybe spooky legends - she was a woman in Barcelona who was accused of being a serial murderer, child trafficking, and using kids as ingredients in folk remedies. It's a bit grisly and somewhat historically biased for shock value....... so it's partly historical and partly legend
Her name was Enriqueta Martí but they called her La Vampira [though usually now it's vampiresa for female vampire] and the neighborhood was Raval in Barcelona
...
Other just general ones, is El Coco or El Cucuy is the word for Boogeyman. Occasionally conflated with El hombre del saco "the sack man" who kidnaps kids. But generally this is the "if you misbehave this thing will come get you"
