Finding purple and green fruits was slightly trickier than expected because some were taken by other characters, but again, I always manage. Also I'm really proud of how Valti turned out; I'm finally starting to get the hang of drawing buff characters.

I ended up redesigning Valti again because I wasn't satisfied with the second design I had made. And thus, the 3rd design became a bit of a mix between the 1st and the 2nd.

The patches on the skin of the 2nd design and the weapon being a hammer were kept, but I decided to keep the gauntlet, camo pants and shorter coat of the 1st design.

And at fucking last I'm done with ref sheets for Artfight! However I have yet to post everyone because Artfight and its code for character description fucking hate me.

Hey y'all guess what uni is finally over (ended with a spectacular burn-out but we don't talk about that) and at last I can focus on my projects again!

Which starts with a couple redesigns of the Bastards of Ethuline main trio! Now they can kick ass more efficiently, isn't that great

Couple design notes under the cut!

Nora's redesign was mostly her outfit, that I considered too unpractical for what she's doing. The ref has the four arms out to showcase the small spikes on the lower set, meant to resemble... whatever cockroaches have going on. But she can still keep the lower set hidden. The pattern on her pants are two centipedes crossing each other. The overall goal was to make her insect theme more visible.

Valti's changes were very minor. Some were to make them easier to draw, and some were because the old design did not reflect properly what I had in mind when it comes to their preferred fighting method. The hammer-axe also became just a hammer, practical for both them and me trying to draw it. The coat is longer to make them look more imposing.

Kadelio is the one who got the most changes. I wanted to add a bit more than just a couple antennae here and there (the main inspiration was the peacock after all), so now he has quite a lot of "feathery scales" on him. They're flesh and no you can't take them out without Kadelio screaming in agony. I also gave him a more appropriate outfit for running, since that's his specialty. The rifles also look like rifles now. They're still non-functioning, and only serve to channel his powers.

Midnight strikes in France, and Artfight begins!

I underestimated the sheer amount of time I needed for the many uni projects I had to finish, but at last I'm free now!

Well... I still have one (1) commission to finish, but hey a bitch can celebrate Artfight beginning, featuring a lovely trailer with my beautiful bastards. Aren't they wonderful?

Happy new year everyone! At least here in France. I pity all of you who are stuck in the past smh

This year was a shitshow, I can't say the opposite.

I mean, good things happened, but for this blog, it wasn't that great, I had a lot of trouble keeping it alive.

Beta AU ended abruptly, to my dismay. I really wished I could have finished it, I really do, I just couldn't, and I still can't even bring myself to write something without feelings of dread, it's going to take a while before I ever write again.

But this year wasn't all that bad, I finally got my bachelor's degree and am currently doing a master's degree, which is somehow less stress-inducing than before.

That, and I introduced Bastards of Ethuline, a story that I've been mentally planning since May, and have just started posting the introductions for the characters. Which is another reason why I'm begging my brain to stop panicking at the idea of writing, because it's a story I want to share (not as a long story, but rather short stories and one-shots).

I do have hope for the next year, mostly as an artist since I want to draw more often again. Commissions are open, and I do plan on doing either Touhou fan art or BoE art after introducing every character of the story. I also want to get into zines if possible (well, whatever I can find on this hellsite that appeals to my tastes anyway)

The first impression most people have of Valti is one of a shady individual not to approach, which is both a facade and true to an extent. While they tend to stand out, rare are those who actually start a conversation with them; this reputation of an unapproachable genius is one they have built for themselves, with the goal of being left alone and not bothered when doing personal projects. However, it seems as though it wasn’t always like this; that something happened for them to want to be seen this way. They used to have friends at the university they are attending as a foreign student, but left them after an incident that they’d rather not talk about.

The only people who do not get met with only side glances are the people of Ethuline. In reality, Valti has a rather chill attitude, and is overall an enjoyable person to be around. They’re rather sociable when they want to be.

Nowadays, Valti is a part-time hunter working to protect Ethuline from the danger of beasts, while sometimes bringing gifts from the surface for the kids to enjoy. Most of their free time is spent building weapons and tools used for hunting, a business they keep a secret from everyone but the hunters of Ethuline. For some reason, they never seem to run out of money for those projects, despite their family not being wealthy by any means. It is unknown if they have other illegal businesses on the side.

Valti may be human, but they’re not someone to underestimate. While they do not have extraordinary abilities, the weapons they wield make up for it.

They like to use a giant hammer-axe to fight, one they have built themselves in secret. The engine is powered to be usable by someone without supernatural strength, thanks to canons on both sides of the weapon, to propel it and give it more strength. The weapon can retract into a suitcase, which is useful to carry it around.

Sometimes, they build small gadgets to help in battle, such as tiny grenades (explosives, noise bombs, and flashbangs) and smaller, throwable weapons.

They have more muscle mass than most people thanks to their intense training routine. It is not something new; this habit (and muscle mass) is one they have been building for years, well before they ever started working with the hunters of Ethuline.

Despite the physical strength, they sometimes need more to wield the hammer-axe, and have thus created an engine placed on their heart with wires wrapped around their body, which gives electric shocks to stimulate the muscles and give more strength in the arms and hand (through a mechanical glove) for a short moment. They claim that this will not affect them in the long run, despite how questionable that idea is.

Valti has arrived! They're a character I have a lot of fun poking around, for various reasons. They're the local engineer who tends to use unorthodox methods to get what they want, and not always legally, as you may have guessed. But a lad's gotta do what a lad's gotta do.

It might come off as obvious but goddamn is it hard to plan things in 1 minute, hence why everyone has basic poses. 5 minutes is a tad easier but still, barely have time for anything, especially for more complex designs

Also it’s pretty easy to tell which designs feel easier to me (Yobaii, for some reason, is easier to draw than Kadelio?)

Bastards of Ethuline - Masterpost

Aka something for you (and me) to navigate through the posts about this original story of mine.

A little introduction to the events of this story.

In the near future, the state of the world is not that different from today. The technologies stagnate, the woes of this world haven’t faded away, as humans are still corrupted by their own greed.

Around 25 years ago, the Earth and the Underworld merged together in some parts of the world. Underworld beasts and humans are forced to coexist, but the humans are more often than not the prey of these gigantic monsters. Of course, the inevitable happened — relationships between human and monster, and bastard children emerging from these unions.

In Lyon, France, the underworld has merged with the city's underground. A certain half-beast, who felt like she did not belong anywhere, settled a camp on the boundary between the worlds, in the deepest parts of the subways. A camp where half-beasts, rejected by both worlds, can fight for their survival. A refuge where stolen supplies and brave guardians keep the bastards and outcasts alive. A settlement named Ethuline.

After seven years of acting as Ethuline’s lone guardian, the half-beast was joined by other brave souls — a genius with an iron fist, wielding self-made weapons filled with hatred, and another half-beast, one who brings light in this dark place.

Each has their own reasons to fight. Different ideas, different beliefs, different motivations fueling their will to push back against the beasts that plague humanity — and yet, a shared resolve and similar end goals allow these differences to be put aside. Perhaps together, they can make a dent in the waves of beasts crawling their way towards the surface.

Along their journey, they may find allies and enemies alike, discover parts of themselves they would have never thought twice about before, and stumble upon truths that their minds might have been better off not knowing. A world where beasts exist is not a peaceful one, by far — and humanity is cruel to what it deems as “other” — but perhaps, by some miracle carved with their own blood and sweat, the bastards of Ethuline will find a way to not just survive, but thrive, in this future of endless danger and life between worlds.
