Every planet sign next to my name(Azalea) is based on my actual natal chart. For Vanity Smurf, his signs are based on his personality and relationships in the comics and 1980s cartoon series because he doesn't have a known birthdate.

First, I'll start with his Mercury sign. Vanity's communication style in the '80s cartoon series and comic books is all about self-expression and honesty. He speaks confidently and happily when sharing his opinions about fashion and beauty. He is never shy. Honesty is his language just like a mirror! So this makes his Mercury sign Leo.

Second, I'll explain what his Venus sign will be. Based on the comics and 1980s cartoon series, Vanity's love style is fixed primarily on his personal beauty and secondly on others. it’s valentine’s day and love is in the air at seongnam! 

although the campus is on break mode for most ( and winter session mode for those unfortunate souls who sign up for the 4 week semester ), it’s quite obvious to see that a popular choice for students is to remain upon campus until the new school year starts up again in march. seeing this, the student government starts promoting the sale of lovestagram ( an upgrade on candygrams ) on the week of valentines, starting from february 10th and ending the night of february 14th. a booth is set up specifically within the student government office located within the student center, showing what they have to offer:

there are several different lovestagrams to send -- either one with a simple box of assorted chocolates or candies, another with a bouquet of fresh roses, one with a teddy bear holding a heart, and one with heart shaped balloons attached to it. each comes with a note so that the sender can write a special message for their special someone. feel free to mix and match! the lovestagrams will be delivered throughout the day on february 14th, valentine’s day, and will be delivered to the person’s doorstep of their housing. and while this day is usually reserved for women giving gifts to men, the office is promoting that these gifts are free to give for all on today.

and while the lovestagrams are a sweet treat indeed, many keeping their eyes wide open to see who receives what from who, the main event that’s the talk of the campus -- or even the talk of the town, in all honesty -- isn’t taking place on campus.

club insomnia’s holiday bashes are well known to the point that some would even say that they’re iconic -- it’s certain that you’ll always make memories to last a lifetime ( and some mistakes that you would want to forget ) at least at one of their parties; even with the line outside almost wrapping around the building, some say it’s worth the wait. they’ve decided to host a party this year on valentine’s night with the theme of sins and virtues -- in order to get into the venue, you must dress up ( yes, it’s a costume party ) based on one of the 7 deadly sins or 7 heavenly virtues. every wall and room within the club will be decorated with heaven and hell to match the theme, and along with hosting a costume contest, photo wall and photobooth for the instagram generation, a room filled with foam bubbles ( please dress appropriately ) and having the hottest djs to set the mood, it’s certainly setting the stage for a night to remember. doors will open at 9pm and the doors will close around 4am.

a little sugar to start the day off while ending it with a little spice, what more could you ask for?

ooc wise, this event will last 3 weeks as well -- starting on today, february 14th and ending on march 6th, just in time for the new semester!

If a track came on - what would make you dance? What would make you make a swift exit?

Currently, it would be ‘Good As Hell’ by Lizzo. I love old-school stuff like Funkadelic and Sly Stone.If there’s music on, I’m unlikely to make a swift exit… unless it’s Nickelback, that is!

You started out on the Camden indie circuit - what lead you to that life? What was the best memory?

At the time I used the live in South-East London, but used to spend as much free-time as possible in Camden. I loved the shops, the market, music venues and general vibe of the place. It was the 90’s, and we would often bump into well-known band members in pubs like The Falcon, The Monarch, The Dublin Castle and The Underworld.

We supported FEEDER at gigs around this time. Hard to pick a ‘best’ memory, but probably playing to a packed house at the infamous Water Rats in Kings Cross. The band from that time are doing a reunion gig at The Water Rats this July, so I’m looking forward to that one!

Tell us a little more about the War Songs project. How long did it take you to put it together and would you like to do something like that again?

It took around six months to pull-together. I worked on the compositions with George Moorey who is a great producer and music creator based in Gloucester. Our concept was to create 2 pieces of music from WWI poetry to commemorate the centenary of the First World War, one that was 19mins 14secs long and one 19mins 18seconds long - 19:14, 19:18 - to represent the years of the war. We attracted Heritage Lottery funding for the project and they recommended we focus on the local Gloucestershire composer and poet, Ivor Gurney.

I absolutely loved visiting the Gloucestershire Archives and having the opportunity to read Ivor Gurney’s actual note books and letters, and then interpret his poetry into music with George. His story resonated with me having lived with my own mental health issues and challenges. So it became incredibly important to deliver a good piece of work.

We co-ordinated with local musicians and schools and community groups to perform the pieces at The Guildhall. On the night there were 99 musicians on-stage - it was wonderful to see the younger musicians enjoying and benefitting from working alongside the professional and semi-professional musicians.

We’re so happy to announce four new artists for 2020.

The first is Oli Gosh. Oli began her career as an actress, training at RADA and then performing roles ranging from Juliet in Romeo and Juliet to Dirty Dancing in the West End. Coming from the underground up, Oli found her true home on the dance floor of Amnesia in Ibiza where she discovered Techno, teaming up with fellow south east London producer, Naive Machine to create the track ‘Silva’ which combines ethereal vocals with the raw power of flamenco stamping samples. She also worked with Danglo and their 1st release, ‘Never let you go’, was picked up by Pete Tong. She now has tens of thousands of followers on Spotify and is working on songs to be featured on Tuneriver.com

Next up is blues-rocker Marc James. Marc is a gifted vocalist, guitarist, and lap steel player, worship leader and songwriter. If you like Eddie Vedder’s voice you’ll love Marc’s! He is the author of many well-known songs such as ‘Surrender’. Marc is also famous for fronting the band Verra Cruz, an English blues-rock band originally from St Albans.

The next signing is our first international artist, Janet Renders (pronounced: ‘Shanet') from The Netherlands.

She is a solo artist and singer in her band ‘The First Resort’ and has performed during the international Four Days Marches in Nijmegen – an event that promotes sport and exercise. Janet is currently studying Music Therapy at the HAN University of Applied Sciences in Nijmegen and would love to give a special person in your life an unforgettable gift: your unique song.

Our latest signing is Gina Larner, who I spotted singing at The Cheltenham Songwriter’s Guild at Smokey Joe’s. Gina is an up and coming folk/country artist, originally from Brighton. 

She has been playing guitar and singing since she can remember and is just about to finish her degree in Popular Music. Gina has performed up and down the country, being a grand finalist in Open Mic UK and other major competitions, along with playing with her band consisting of double bassist, electric guitar and violin. She has released 2 singles, and continues to write new songs to perform/sell. I can’t wait to have her songs featured on tuneriver.com.

What’s your next venture?

I’m looking for a piano player that I can team up with to create a duo. I had a band before called The Holy Sinners. We used to put on events titled ’Songs of Intimacy, Romance and Doom’ (!) and I’d like to put on some evenings at places like Chapel Arts. Songs by Nina Simone, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, with some jazz and swing.

What are you going to be eating after your pub drink?

I’m a sucker for sticky chicken wings and sweet potato fries, it makes me feel like I’m back in New Orleans.

Where do you go in the Cotswolds to unwind?

There are some wonderful walks. I like Cleeve Common, Leckhampton Hill, Robinswood Hill and Painswick Beacon. There are also wonderful parks in Cheltenham: Sandford and Pitville and my faves. Lunch or brunch at Baker & Graze in the Suffolks is also one of my favourite places. I also love the steam railway that runs from the racecourse to Broadway.

I studied Ancient History/Classical Civilisation at school and university, so I love visiting historic Roman sites and the Corinium Museum. To fully unwind I usually go to a local jam-night, like the one at The Bayshill, though... and I’ve starting singing some blues in The Berkeley Arms in Tewkesbury on a Monday night with Bryn Thomas, Roger Petley, Nathan Thomas and Stef Stevens, that really helps me unwind!

She was born in freeside, her parents were really just fireside bums n so she never really had a strong sense of family. She sorta roamed around freeside as a  kid and tried her best to stay out of trouble.. she still found trouble tho , but luckily she sort of had the skill to weasel her way out of it. Yea, she’s got som trauma related issues (which comes mainly from when she stumbled into nipton/nelsen. seeing innocent people suffering so much n treated so cruelly kinda #fucked her up.. she knew they did bad things but not.. like that) also she has adhd n she gets distracted a lot n takes a bunch of silly things around with her but its cool, she copes a lot by internalizing things n it doesnt rlly end up too good but she lives

its depends a lot on the situation! When it comes to pre war relics they are HERS but she does her best to try and share medical supplies etc.., for people in need

yea i say it does. especially in the NCR mission to go into the vault and choose whether to kill the trapped people or help the NCR.. she sometimes regrets her choices but she learns to move on

She finds death just to be a part of life.. its all a cycle and it just goes on.

She moves around pretty regularly, however she still views freeside as her home!!! she has a permanent room at the atomic wrangler, too

It’ll feature free live music from a bunch of really good local musicians and feature electronic voter registration. The music will be great and free, Shangri-La’s selection keeps getting richer all the time, and Kwik Chek is down the street. Go have a blast! (Voting is important. I can understand why some people feel that it isn’t. But even if you don’t feel like your vote matters, get out and vote for the people you know are directly affected by bad legislation. This is one of those rare “why not both?” moments. The Hi-Tone will have a sick showcase of Memphis DJs and producers that are part of Future-Everything, a worldwide multimedia label based in Memphis. Prepare for real heady mixes that will be extremely easy to vibe to. FEBRUARY 5 Riff Raff with 6roke 6oy SiX, HANNYA CHAOS, and Odd Rodd w/ Nodus Defect at Growlers Doors at 7 p.m., all ages, $20 advance, $25 day of show No one who took themselves seriously would rap “non-stop through desert / salisbury steak sweater / they figured I was kin to Chester / the way I chase cheddar”, and that self-awareness is why we liked RiFF RAFF ten years ago. But it’s 2020, and the joke’s over. The real reasons you should pay attention to this show are the supporting acts: Memphis rappers 6roke 6boy SiX, HANNYA CHAOS, and Odd Rodd. This lineup will hit you like a freight train pushing cars full of blood and guts. Twenty bucks for three good shows and one potentially hilarious one is a great deal. FEBRUARY 8 Mo3 with El Zappo Foreign at Minglewood Hall Doors at 7 p.m., all ages*, $35+ *Minglewood’s site says “all ages”, but use parental discretion. Twenty-seven year-old Dallas rapper Mo3 allegedly took a bullet to the head in December, then went on Instagram live immediately afterwards to let folks know he was good. Only rap gossip sites are reporting this, but hey. Mo3 doesn’t necessarily bring anything new to the craft with his rags-to-riches gangsta rap, but he is signed to Boosie Badazz’s label Bad Azz, so he’s definitely got some juice. And if he really got headshotted and decided to flex, then Bad Azz is where he belongs. FEBRUARY 9 Frankie valet with Blvck Hippie & Late Night Cardigan at the Hi-Tone Doors at 10 p.m., $5 *ages TBD, but it’s most likely 18+ Once again, we have out-of-town talent supported by great local talent. Frankie valet, from St. Louis, hides very cheery and soft melodies under blankets of fuzz. They’ll fit right in with Blvck Hippie and Late Night Cardigan, both established indie rock bands in the Memphis music community with devoted followings. The fact that they’re only charging five bucks for this is crazy. Highly recommended. Use the extra cash to buy some drinks or one of Josh McLane’s good-as-hell sandwiches.  FEBRUARY 9 Celine Dion at FedExForum 7:30 p.m., $46+ Celine needs no introduction. We know she is the Queen of Canada, and probably the world. What I didn’t know is that Celine Dion is prolific, putting out at least one record every 3-5 years since 2003. She also put out an album, Courage, in November of last year. Celine Dion slaps. Drake thinks so. A lot. And y’all love Drake. So take his word for it.  FEBRUARY 11 The Beach Boys at The Orpheum Theatre 7 p.m., $49.50+ Are you going steady and wanna get your sweetie an early Valentine’s Day gift? Got in-laws with birthdays this month? Are you a youth getting “really into music” and discovering Pet Sounds? An older millennial experiencing second-hand nostalgia? Look no further: a version of the The Beach Boys are making waves in Memphis. While none of the founding Wilson brothers tour with this group, Mike Love is an original Beach Boy, and Bruce Johnston basically is. FEBRUARY 12 Umphrey’s McGee at Graceland Soundstage Doors at 7 p.m., $30+ I saw Jim James (My Morning Jacket), John Oates (Hall & Oates), Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes), and R. Kelly (Problematic Would Be An Understatement), do a famous Bonnaroo Superjam in 2013. It was incredible, and while I never really liked jam bands, I understand them better now. It’s all about the vibe. Being the “moment”. If you’re into that, you’ll be into Umphrey’s McGee at the Graceland Soundstage this month. Check out the Jungle Room bar, or head across the street to the Guest House for a bar with a sweet happy hour. FEBRUARY 14 PJ Morton at Minglewood Hall Doors at 8 p.m., all ages, $25+ We all need some good R&B in our lives. It reminds you to stop and appreciate sensuality and emotion. It’s good for the soul! PJ Morton knows this. He’s a frequent Maroon 5 collaborator, and his live album Gumbo Unplugged snagged three Grammy nominations last year. His R&B is more traditional, think Kem and not the hyper-inward experimentalism of Frank Ocean. Both are necessary, but Frank Ocean songs are, for me at least, too sad to play during you-know-what*. *building with my friends on my private Christian Minecraft server, no cussing allowed. FEBRUARY 27 Allison Kasper w/ Daykisser at BAR DKDC Doors at 9 p.m., 21 and up $7 Seeing Red, Feeling Blue by Allison Kasper I’ve written about Allison Kasper before in this column, but while I try not to list the same bands, this will be Kasper’s first show in nearly eight months. She rocks, her band rocks, and she’s one more artist on the list of excellent new musical talent in Memphis.
