Continuing the vendor conversation

Hey y’all! 

As usual life is crazy and the gap in my schedule for writing isn’t always there. But anywho, I’d like to continue the conversation about vendors and useful questions to ask them!

Let’s go categorically:

Venue:

What’s included in renting your venue?

Can I host both ceremony and reception here?

What time can we arrive and what time must we leave?

Do you have a weather contingency plan?

Is there an on-site coordinator for the day of the wedding?

Does the venue coordinator connect with your other vendors prior to the wedding?

Do you have preferred vendors you work with?

Do you offer a bridal suite or get-ready space for the bridal party?

Band (or DJ):

What kind of music does your ensemble specialize in?

How many artists do you offer?

Is the band size negotiable with respect to price?

Does the band require a stage or special rental equipment?

How long will you play and can additional hours be purchased?

Can songs be requested or do you have a set playlist? 

Do you offer ceremony or cocktail hour services?

Can you provide a microphone or speakers for the ceremony or cocktail hour? 

Do your members require a meal? (hot or boxed)

Can we see you prior to the wedding? (ex: they may be playing a local gig)

Caterer:

What cuisine do you specialize in? 

Do you take custom meal requests or do you operate using a fixed menu?

Can we review your full menu for all options, including heavy hor d'oeuvres, passed or stationary hor d'oeuvres, buffet options, seated dinner options, and chef stations?

Do you allow alcohol to be provided by the bride and groom or is it required to be purchased by your company? 

Will you provide a mixer package for cocktails?

Do you require an additional ABC license?

Do you provide ice and coolers?

Do you need a kitchen set up at the reception space (whether a tent or other)?

Do you provide a day-of coordinator? 

Do your employees require a meal?

Can you make a gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, etc. type of food?

What is your delivery fee?

What are the employee fees?

Florist:

May we see examples of your work?

Do you deliver and at what cost?

Do you provide anything complimentary? (ex: flower girl petals or the bride’s toss bouquet)

Do you offer rentals and are they included in the floral cost?

Do you offer a preview of the order, prior to the wedding? 

Is there a set list of flowers you offer or can anything be ordered?

Where and when do you receive your flowers prior to the wedding and how are they stored? (you want to ensure they’ll be fresh)

Do you offer floral preservation post-wedding?

Rentals:

Do you deliver and at what cost?

Can we see all the options for each item we need? (ex: all colors of chairs, kinds of plates, linen colors, etc.)

Is there a day-of coordinator? 

Do you offer CAD drawings of our set-up?

Can you suggest several lay-outs to get the best use of our space and money?

Do you consider everything in terms of our exact guest count or do some items come in packs? (ex: silverware, plates, cups)

Do you do a site visit while we’re planning with you?

Do you provide any relevant permits that might be needed?

Photographer/Videographer:

May I see past wedding galleries of yours?

Do you use a second shooter?

How many photos do you offer us?

Are there multiple packages?

Can anything be added or subtracted from the package(s)?

Do you bring your own equipment or is there a rental cost associated?

Do you offer albums, CDs, USBs, or online galleries?

How long are you willing to be there day-of?

Do you offer bridal shoots or engagement shoots?

Do you have a certain photography theme? 

Are you skilled in X kind of photos? (ex: sunset photos, natural photos, candid photos, etc.)

Do you use stationary equipment or hand-held devices?

Do you offer drone material? 

What is the turn around time for your work?

For all services, always check that you know when deposits are due, when the final payment is required, and if a damage deposit is required in addition to the cost. I suggest keeping all of these details in an excel sheet {obvi}. I would also request an itemized list, including cost, of all items you are purchasing. Some vendors even offer discounts if you pay in full, so be sure to enquire if that’s an option!

Tuesday's Tip: Monogramming It's wedding season which means Monogramming is in full affect. Brides getting new monograms as well as gifting bridesmaids and groomsman monogrammed items. . History: Monograms first appeared on coins, as early as 350BC. The earliest known examples are of the names of Greek cities who issued the coins, often the first two letters of the city's name. For example, the monogram of Achaea consisted of the letters alpha (Α) and chi (Χ) joined together. (Wikipedia) . Individual Monogram: They are 3 letters and are in the order of --first LAST middle--. The letters are intertwined to make a design. . Men (traditionally)also have the option of having their initials out in order of --first MIDDLE Last-- with all letters being the same height. . Couple Monogram: A couples monogram is generally 3 letters --Man's first initial LAST NAME woman's first initial--. Example my husband first name is William, Our couple monogram is wSc .
