Even this event might have been so easily put in the past if it weren't for the surprise visitor upon all of them. A man allied to none, who didn't seem to care what side he took out.

Keeping himself concealed, Loki waited until the stranger in the threatening chestplate paused for cover. He let one of his intangible duplicates speak close by.

"Il nostro programma di studio - continua Platt - è sviluppato per valutare l'efficacia contro le malattie da pneumococco in tutti gli adulti in base all'età e ai fattori di rischio. Per questo abbiamo coinvolto adulti over 18 che presentino o meno fattori di rischio, per avere dati utili al suo impiego in popolazioni specifiche". Sulla durata della copertura, "dall'esperienza su altri vaccini coniugati riteniamo che vari da 10-15 anni fino a 20. Stiamo quindi valutando la durata della risposta immunitaria negli studi per avere questi dati anche per V116". Nei bambini, "prima dei vaccini coniugati - spiega la ricercatrice - si registravano 94 casi su 100mila. Dopo, l'incidenza è scesa a 7 su 100mila. Il quadro è simile negli adulti, ma non identico. Prima dei coniugati si registravano 61 casi che poi sono passati a 24 ogni 100mila. E' una buona riduzione, ma è un effetto indiretto per la vaccinazione sui bambini che ha un risultato sugli adulti, è il cosiddetto impatto indiretto. Restano dei bisogni insoddisfatti - sottolinea Platt - e abbiamo disegnato un vaccino che va proprio in questo senso. La decisione di sviluppare V116, specificatamente per gli adulti, è stata fatta analizzando la patologia in base ai sierotipi che, nel corso di un decennio, hanno un impatto sulla salute pubblica. Pfizer v Merck For The Pneumococcal Vaccine

Merck & Co. has revealed data from a phase 3 trial designed to knock Pfizer’s pneumococcal vaccine off its perch. The vaccine candidate matched Prevnar 20 for shared serotypes and performed better for 10 of its 11 unique serotypes, positioning Merck to file for approvals around the world.

Pfizer is the dominant force in the adult U.S. pneumococcal vaccine market, with Prevnar 20 holding a 95% share in the third quarter, but Merck believes its V116 candidate provides broader protection than the competition. The drugmaker shared top-line data from a phase 3 trial of V116 in July and followed up Tuesday with a closer look at the results at the World Vaccine Congress West Coast.
