ACTRESS What’s meant to be a brief engagement with her high school drama club becomes a career path. Astoria pursues acting, training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. For a time her career is kept solely to the stage, until her portrayal of Ophelia (who Astoria plays as violent, struggling, and increasingly loud) garners international attention. Astoria becomes known for her period roles (her performance as Estella Havisham in a BBC adaptation of Great Expectations marks the beginning of a legacy), before branching out to science fiction and high fantasy and, surprising everyone, a few years on an American soap opera. Her career is largely defined by her portrayals of villainous women, and her public image is carefully curated to keep her out of trouble.

EARLY MODERN EUROPE The illegitimate daughter of an English nobleman and his Venetian lover, Astoria is raised by her mother and grandparents in Venice, and educated in the humanist tradition. The circumstances of her birth are not likely to make for a good marriage, and so Astoria learns to rely on her quick wit and silver tongue, as well as her beauty, to secure her place in the world, often as a lady in a royal court. Compatible with The Royal Masquerade, Medici, The Borgias, The Tudors, Reign, etc, as well as a general historical verse. Location subject to change based on the needs of the thread or plot.

BLACK SAILS With the unexpected death of her husband at sea, only a few years after their marriage and before they could produce an heir, Doña Astoria Vega inherits his wealth, his lands, and his business. It’s sheer chance that brings her face-to-face with the pirates that have been targeting her ships, but it’s her cleverness that keeps her alive, and her unexpected friendship with Captain James Flint that inspires a change in her business practices moving forward. Built alongside @seascourge��s Flint, who will be a part of Astoria’s history in any threads in this verse. Under construction as I continue watching.

MERLIN The city-state of Seleny, well to the south, is known for its wine, its trade, and its princess. Likely to take the throne when her grandfather, the current merchant prince, dies, Astoria travels to Camelot in the hopes of visiting family and working to establish a trade alliance with Uther. While it’s her family and her duty that bring her to Camelot in the first place, it’s her growing affection for, and loyalty to, Prince Arthur that keeps her there. Under construction as I continue watching.

SUPERNATURAL As an amateur historian, and an ambitious and hardworking woman carrying on the family business, Astoria Grimani works with her aunt at their shop in Boston, Second Son’s Antiquities. As a psychic from a long family history of witchcraft and with a penchant for theivery, Astoria travels throughout the country, sometimes under the pseudonym Elizabeth Grey, obtaining and selling magical artifacts for a select clientele of hunters and collectors. While she will occasionally work with the local diocese on cases of suspected exorcism, or help clear out a haunting at a client’s request, Astoria prefers to leave the dirty work to the professionals. (It’s rumored that she has more magic than she lets on, that she can do more than access the future or manipulate perceptions, but if that’s true, she’s not telling.)
