THE THREE VERSIONS OF CHONGYUN

CHONGYUN.

mainverse, or any standard verse where he's just chongyun. that's the name he goes by, that's the name people call him. exorcist in any verse, knows some magic, and is your basic chill person to hang out with. mainverse chongyun has hair just barely long enough to pull back into a small ponytail, and they wear a single earring.

CAESOR.

fatuiverse. this is chongyun with an alias. they serve various harbingers (verse/thread depending), and are typically used for a lot of harder work. chongyun is constantly inflicted with yang energy due to the pyro delusion, which takes a toll on their body. and are overworked due to their strength and uses as an exorcist. the orders don't always come from a harbinger directly, but from fatuus that outrank caesor. caesor wears a blue and white mask over his eyes.

BINARIUS.

yakshaverse. binarius is the forgotten cryo yaksha, who later became chongyun. binarius lost all memories of being the yaksha, though those memories are slowly coming back. while chongyun is still a name they like going by, they prefer being called binarius, as that is their identity. they are thousands of years old, and ARE infected with karmic debt. binarius manages to keep it at bay, somehow, by using the magic they've been taught while living with the human clan. binarius has long hair that falls past their shoulders, and is usually pulled back in a low ponytail.

old  modernverse  was  ren  becoming  a  streamer  as  an  allegory  for  followers  of  a  social  media  personality  being  akin  to  followers  of  a  god  —  with  a  deconstruction  of  both  parasocial  relationships  and  relying  on  the  attention  of  anonymous  strangers  to  fulfill  one's  need  for  validation.  (  even  at  the  cost  of  personal  comfort,  privacy  and  reducing  oneself  to  a  product.  )

new  modernverse  is  just  ❝  mom  didn't  love  me  so  i  invested  in  bitcoin  ❞  with  a  side  of  that  awkward  moment  when  the  criminals  you  agree  to  work  for  turn  out  to  actually  be  criminals  doing  criminal  things  and  faking  your  own  death  is  easier  than  handing  in  a  resignation  notice.

acer drags caesor with him to go fishing together.

caesor hasn't DONE much (for himself) since joining the fatui. life so far had been nothing but "go here and exorcise this location." or inspecting temples to clear them of the abyss order. or just the abyss as a whole. honestly, the routine's gotten fairly stale, and caesor is BORED.

today is a rare day when no orders to do things are given. with their mask resting next to them, caesor is reclining on the ground, eager to spend time doing something for themself. maybe meditating, or going to practice on the dummies to build up their arm strength further.

what caesor DOESN'T expect is for acer to come and grab him, forcing him upright and even dragging him away. "wha-" caesor sputters. he doesn't resist, because acer is one of the few people who is genuinely nice; caesor enjoys being around him.

"i'm coming!" he barely had time to snatch his mask before being whisked away. honestly, the promise of fishing doesn't sound bad. caesor does like fish, and knows a few different ways to cook it now.

Epsilon slumped into his chair and pressed his palms against the eyeholes of his mask. A muffled scream escaped between clenched teeth. This was bad. This was very bad.

“Are you satisfied now?” He asked Scaramouche, expecting they would have followed him back. He could feel them there, behind him, but even as he dragged his hands down his face and let them fall, he didn’t deign to look.

Perhaps he was the one unjustified here, behaving as he was. It was right for them to get the answers they wanted, he knew that. However, it didn’t change the fact that dragging everything out into the open was a uniquely painful experience. This all wasn’t even his own fault.

And if that was the truth, why did it feel so awful?

Diluc should be the one apologizing for ever turning his blade upon him to begin with -- for ousting him from both the family home and from Mondstadt itself.

For making him feel so unwanted that he'd left and remained silent for all this time.

"Oh, Gods... I thought you were dead. We all did."

The elder of the pair pulls him back by the shoulders, eyes scanning every inch of his sibling. He looks to be in genuine shock and disbelief, mouth agape as he drinks in the sight of his little brother before his very eyes.

"I never thought..."

...He'd get this chance. The chance to see him again. To take him back home, back to where he belonged.

The grin that forms on his lips is gigantic -- one so grateful for all that he held within his hands in this very moment. It's enough to make him want to put down his father's delusion at last -- to believe that there's finally something worth living for in this wretched world.

Diluc's face softens into something genuine and comforting, gloved fingers moving to tuck a stray, pesky strand of hair behind Kaeya's ear.

"I can't wait to bring you home. It's been way too long; Addie and Elzer are going to lose their minds. They've missed you so much -- I've missed you so much."

But if this was such a joyous occasion, then why did Kaeya look so... sad?
