the flames before which the queen sits are little more then spent kindling, with how useful the heat proves in penetrating that icy ill feeling—beginning to clot and cling to her bleeding and broken heart; the warmth ghosts over her skin with a featherlight brush of coolness as she stares into the blazing inferno's own, stares through it, her fingers curled tightly around a shredded bit of torn and faded cloth, the maroon color washed from it with seawater and sun exposure. she does not know what to do with it, she does not know if she can let it go. so it lays cradled in her palm like something precious, like something that might slip through the cracks of her fingers if she loosens her grip even the slightest bit upon it. her eyes are swollen, and red rimmed and yet she feels entirely hollow, entirely emptied, as if all the pain it was possible for any one person to feel had been spent, had been wept ( surely, surely there could not be more, and yet there would be, if she continued upon the path she had led them— there would, and there would be no stopping it ) a cursory glance is shot to the entryway at the sound of the soft creak, of wood moving and metal yielding as her chamber doors opened to admit her stepdaughter.
one hand bracing behind herself as she adjusts, and sits upward, sits straight and tries to gather herself. her lips pinching with the movement and subsequent strain. taking a deep breath to ease the stab of shooting pain at the abruptness, before loosing it. her eyes raise—her brow furrowing lightly as her head cocks gently to the side, before at last her gaze softens ( and though it is tinged with weariness, and weighted by sorrow, it carries with it kindness, and no shortage of understanding for the girl's own grief ) though it is an odd feeling, to know that he is gone - that he would not return, that he was. that all that was, all that he ever would be had been snuffed out so suddenly. he had been gone for days, she thinks. days, and she had not known. how, had she not known ? all had felt as it had been, and she had not known.
" he was, " she agreed quietly, hoarsely — with a little nod and the momentary shutter of the woman's lashes as she glances down to the bundle in her lap and takes another heavy breath, before she looks back up at her, summoning a fleeting half smile, an attempt, at the least, of reassurance, of comfort, " i am sorry too, " her voice is soft. that all of this had happened, that she had been unable to prevent it, that she had not sent ravens in their stead despite the advantages sending dragonriders would have well provided, they had not been worth the cost, “ it is very kind of you, to come here. and i thank you for it. though i must ask.. how are you faring ? and how fares your sister ? "

the news made the entire castle go silent. arrax's wing had washed up on shore, as had the remains of luke's riding cloak. rhaena knows they've been delaying the funeral more out of respect and time for grief rather than awaiting his miraculous return, but the mere glimpse she saw of the remains still made her feel sick to her stomach. she supposed nobody truly believed he might have survived. they were all just waiting for physical confirmation of his death.
"he was such a wonderful young man. luke." she wrings her hands together, taking a deep breath before she says, "i am very sorry, your grace."
@halfyearsqueen ! starter call.

Okay so I wanted to think as to why Daemon would actually target Jaehaerys amongst everyone else and I think I’ve come up with a few reasons as to why.
1. Aegon was crowned king in a hushed manner and it is under him that Aemond, his brother had a duty to go to storms end and retrieve house Baratheon’s support to their side. It is there that Aemond acts out of course of employment and instead kills lucerys (not what team green set for him to do therefore making Aegon the master not liable for Aemond’s actions source: qui facit per alium per se) but this is a song of ice and fire, you cannot fight legal cases here.
You can merely extort revenge in certain methods such as Daemon’s cunning but cruel ‘a son for a son’ through B&C.
This is what I think went through his mind:
“You usurped my wife’s throne and then killed the her son (lucerys), there is a debt to be paid and that is to be a son for a son, it was the Queen’s son who was killed and to get back at the usurper king I shall take a son as well”
Why not Aemond? I think in Daemon’s eyes an innocent prince (Luke) was sent as an envoy and as you know in Westeros you do not harm envoys! And he was unjustly killed. (Not to mention Aemond also kinslayed) And therefore Daemon would hurt an innocent prince as well to give the greens a taste of their own medicine.
• Also Aemond had no children at the time.
•B&C was unexpected it was sneaky, it clearly caught everyone off guard in the red keep. This was a quick way of revenge for Lucerys. Quick and dirty something Daemon is familiar with.
• In the end Daemon killed Aemond as well when it was time in an epic battle above the God’s eye. So he did get to Aemond eventually
Daemon as we know him to be merciless and is someone who had a hatred for team green, the killing of Luke started a war of fire and blood and in war….extreme measures are taken.
Again I think both the killing of Luke at storms end was unjustified! As well as the killing of Jaehaerys by B&C. They were little children.
Before y’all come at me “oh! But aemond was justified in killing lucerys” a reason why this would not hold up in current law is because lucerys was too young at the time of maiming Aemond, he wouldn’t have received any punishment.
Another reason it would not hold up is because Lucerys was completely outmatched at storms end. Aemond being 19 (an adult) and lucerys being a boy of 13. Lucerys having Arrax a dragon that never stood a chance against a trained huge war dragon like Vaghar.
There is an imbalance of power and any hurt caused by aemond would have been considered an unlawful act.
(Case citation) Lane v/s Holloway (1968) 1 QB 379:
The court held here that the defendant was liable because he had attacked the old plaintiff with a disproportionate amount of force (power imbalance) therefore making the defendant guilty.
If we apply this to the situation at storms end Lucerys is a teenager up against an adult Aemond, who claimed the largest dragon in the world. The conflict between them caused Lucerys’ death. Again making Aemond’s actions unlawful.
But then again this is asoiaf and you can’t really take them to court LOL. Aemond got his revenge eventually…which in turn started the dance of dragons.
“And with his (lucerys’)death, the war of ravens and envoys and marriage pacts came to an end, and the war of fire and blood began in earnest.” —Straight outta the book.
Yes, Aemond’s actions at Storms end kick started the war, was he the one to cause the division b/w the greens and the blacks? No. But the killing of Lucerys was the final straw.
The weird thing about the fandom is that team green laugh at lucerys’ death (he was 13 years old who went against the biggest war dragon) but absolutely lose their minds sobbing when an innocent child on their team dies????
Both Jaehaerys and Luke were kids who deserved to grow to adulthood.
Now this is just my personal opinion, you can like or hate whoever you want. But if you hate Daemon for B&C, you should hate Aemond for his actions at storms end as well. Because lets be honest, B&C would have never happened if Lucerys had to return to Dragonstone in one piece. 🤔🤔🤔
Comment section is open for discussions ❣️❣️❣️@sunnysideaeggs just wrote my opinion on the matter LOL 😭 special thanks to sunny for starting this discussion 💗💗💗💗
This isn’t even a question so sorry for the mini rant. I know I’m probably beating a dead horse but I hate when team black Stan’s say son for a son to defend blood and cheese. Son for a son would’ve been Aemond (him especially since he actually killed lucerys.), Aegon,or Daeron not Alicent’s six year old GRANDSON.
Hi bestie :)✨ I’m always here to rant why B&C is completely unjustified and an unforgivable crime under any circumstances. If Daemon really wanted Lucerys avenged he would’ve gone after Aemond, but didn’t bc Aemond can actually defend himself. If he wanted peace, taking Jaehaerys as a hostage would’ve easily made the Targtowers surrender and even hand over Aemond. Damn, even take Aegon if you’re in the mood. But he didn’t because he wanted his rival’s heir killed and to escalate conflict. Chaos is a ladder I guess.
Aegon had nothing to do with Lucerys’ death and Jaehaerys was completely innocent from any of his uncle’s feuds. Killing civilians is a crime, but a toddler? In front of his mother, grandmother and siblings? In the (presumed) safety of his home? That’s very different from killing a teenage messenger who was actively contributing in war and disabled his killer years before.
