The day that Anna had chose to come to the beach was a warm one. The thought had been swirling around in the back of her mind for almost a week now and today had felt like the right time. She had nothing else scheduled in for the afternoon, so it seemed perfect. A few hours at the beach to relax? Who could argue with that?

However, there was something else on her mind that day.

Her shoes came off as soon as she stepped onto the beach. There was little use trying to walk on sand in any kind of shoes and she wasn’t about to make a fool of herself trying to. Part of her hoped that coming to the beach might help clear her head. The sea breeze, the sun warming her skin, the feel of the sand between her toes, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. Perhaps if she had anything else on her mind, it might have worked. But not today.

For a few moments, she considered setting herself down on a patch of sand to watch the waves go by. It was the sight of a familiar face, or rather, the back of his head, that caught Anna’s attention. He seemed to be knelt by something, his hands working away at something in the sand. Perhaps talking to someone, about anything, would help distract her from the thoughts of her powers. 

Whether or not he heard her approach, Anna wasn’t sure. Regardless, she bent down beside him, clearing her throat slightly as to not make him jump. “Hello, Zell.” She glanced his way, a soft smile on her lips. “I didn’t expect to see you on the beach on a day like this.” The beach was hardly packed on a day like this either. There were a fair few people out sunbathing or taking a stroll, but nothing hectic. Anna was grateful for that. She couldn’t bear to be around too many people right now.

She got a closer look at what the young man was doing now. Even then, she couldn’t quite put a finger on what he was doing. “What is this?”

Luna’s abilities in her primary verses

Main verse (FFXV)

Physical: At sixteen, on taking up the role of Oracle, Luna is (canonically) granted the strength of the Oracle. This is given by the Astrals themselves, and increases her physical strength and stamina beyond that of a normal human, though it is to make up for the handicap that taking the Scourge into her body brings. She balances out at still being stronger than most humans, though she can tire when she pushes herself too hard, and especially when using her magic excessively.

She also inherits the Oracle Armor, which enhances her strength and magic, and allows her to continue fighting for longer than she would without it. She summons it via her magic in a similar way that Noctis summons the armiger, or Glauca donned his armor. It isn’t impervious to damage, and if it takes too many hits, it will disappear and take time to rebuild before she can call on it again. Most of its usage is seen during the ten years of night (story related reasons found in my main verse write-up), during which she learns its limitations the hard way.

Magic: On becoming Oracle, Luna is able to use magic with a focus on healing, but can also use water-based magic as well. Small bits here and there don’t see much of a side effect, but if she uses it excessively, or uses a large amount of it in one go, it will exhaust her body to the point of needing rest to continue on.

In battle: Luna prefers to maintain distance and will generally rely on her magic to help fell enemies. If in closer combat, she keeps distance with her trident, giving her a wide arc of attack. Her strength gives her the ability to knock enemies back with relative ease, though she will tire over time. She’s better in short bursts rather than prolonged fights, though potions can help boost her back into fighting shape for a bit longer.

Final Fantasy VIII

Physical: Prior to her Succession, Luna had very little by way of formal training, since most of her focus was on maintaining Dollet. She was known for taking morning jogs, and she would walk the town a few times a week, but until she is assigned a Knight, she had very little training. Eventually, she is trained in hand-to-hand combat well enough, though her strengths lie in her magic rather than on physical fights. Over time, her stamina builds and she becomes more stable in battles.

Magic: Luna’s magic as Sorceress is Ice, and it takes a lot for her to learn how to control it. She keeps it in check at first with an Odine bangle, until she has a Knight who can help train her. At first, it is relatively out of control, and bouts of fear, nervousness, or anxiety can trigger it if she isn’t wearing the bangle (she accidentally froze her bedroom very early on), but as time goes, she needs it less and less. One technique taught to her is to use her trident as a means of channeling it, though this is more of a mental exercise than her weapon having anything to do with the magic.

In battle: Luna fights with her trident, and though she isn’t useless in a fight, she relies heavily on her magic rather than physical attacks. She will do her best to keep distance between her and an enemy, relying on her weapon or hand-to-hand only when necessary.

Final Fantasy X

Physcial: Most of Luna’s life has been spent inside the Bevelle temple with occasional bouts of travel once she becomes High Priestess. Her priority had little to do with physical endurance or strength. She does maintain a strict diet, and she enjoys exercise, but she wasn’t trained for battle. As such, while she isn’t weak, she also isn’t strong. She uses her trident in physical fights, though her attacks are rather weak.

Magic: Luna can use healing and water magic, though she hasn’t been heavily trained in it. Most of what she does is used after a Sin attack, and therefore her healing is more finely honed than her water attacks. 

In battle: Luna doesn’t see much by way of combat in this verse. Most of what she does is healing post-Sin attacks, and performing sendings if a Summoner isn’t available to do it, or if there are too many dead to be sent. She can be useful in combat, but most of what she does participate in are large-scale Sin offensives, like Operation Mi’ihen. Plot dependent, but if Luna were to join the Gullwings, she would become more adept in battle.

Final Fantasy VII

Physcial: Growing up with very outspoken anti-ShinRa parents, Luna was trained in basic combat and self-defense, as well as with weapons of their choice. Luna favors her trident, and can wield it with skill, though she did also learn how to use long daggers. She didn’t see much by way of fighting, but she would train regularly to stay in shape.

Magic: Luna uses healing, water, and ice materia in her trident. 

In Battle: Luna prefers to keep a middle distance between her an her enemies, usually within swinging distance of her trident, giving herself enough space to hit them without them being able to get in close. She can attack long-range with her magic, or close-quarters with her trident, occasionally opting for her dagger if it gets too close. She learns a quick one-two attack that uses magic first, and a follow-up with her trident, and is a favorite attack of hers for staggering an enemy and the sheer amount of damage it can do, even if she can’t repeat this attack in quick succession.

Children, childbirth, and some general health headcanons probably no one asked for (under a cut because things like this can make people uncomfortable):

I’ve headcanoned that, in the AU where Luna survives, her body is incredibly weakened and not very stable due to the intake of the scourge and her communing with the gods. We know she’s already, at 24 years old, having her body start to fail her, and being stabbed probably did her no favors. Later in life, even illnesses can probably leave her wrecked for a good while. As such, having children would be incredibly difficult for her. Getting pregnant is hard enough, but if she actually does, carrying to term would be a very arduous process, which alone would cause stress and tension

She would have to be well taken care of, and would need to find ways to ease her stress (because honestly, knowing how difficult it will be will probably add a lot of tension and stress, which could cause more problems along the way. Girl’s gotta be as relaxed as she can, especially during the later months) to ensure a healthy pregnancy.

However, this idea has overflowed into some of my other FF verses to varying degrees and different reasons. 

In VII, indirect exposure to mako energy has left an impact on her body, including her ability to fight off diseases (simple illnesses leave her fucked up for a couple of weeks), and has made it far more difficult for her to get pregnant.

In VIII, being a Sorceress has made her life more difficult, for damn sure, and puts a lot of impact on her health. Stress exacerbates health problems, and during times of stress, she’s known to get sick easier and for a bit longer. This verse sees her quite heavily stressed, and especially when in new situations or testing her limits with her magic, her status, her role in society, etc., she has been known to become so stressed that she becomes ill.

In X and XII, it is a simple matter of being far less fertile, though only in her XII verse could it really have an impact on her life considering her role, but this is also plot dependent.

However - Luna loves children and would certainly not mind trying for some of her own. It isn’t a necessity, it isn’t something that will wreck her if she can’t, but with the right person and at the right time? It is absolutely something she would love.

Bring Luna your children, okay, let her love them.

Last Song: I listen to sooo much music but lately I’ve been on a real Coheed and Cambria kick. I love them so much, and the song Key Entity Extraction V: Sentry the Defiant reminds me SO much of Dimitri that it’s seriously giving me drawing inspiration 💙

Last Movie: My fiancé and I have been rewatching the Saw movies. While the later Saw movies became a little gimmicky, first one was soooooooo good. The writer / director duo of Leigh Whannell and James Wan are my favorite. Not only are they fantastic at what they do but they’re huge dorks and their commentaries are hilarious. The fact that Leigh was in the first movie and gets to comment on his own acting and crappy budget is *chef kiss*

Currently Watching: I’m currently catching up on BNHA and Bob’s burgers. I haven’t even seen the BNHA movie yet, guys, it’s a travesty.

Currently Reading: The Diviner’s series by Libba Bray. It’s a great page-turning YA series that has more than it’s fair share of complex characters, romance, and horror. Jericho is my babe and deserves the world 🥺

Currently Playing: Fire Emblem Echoes, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Neir Replicant, and replaying FFVIII. Let me tell you: Neir Replicant is freaking heart breaking. I just want all these fools to be happy and there’s no way this is going to end well for anyone, including me 😭 So to sooth the pain, I’m gonna replay my favorite game of all time — FFVIII. FFVIII | viii/post-canon - E P I C I N I U M

Directly following the events of FFVIII, Seifer evaded capture in Esthar, making a successful escape and winding up in the Dollet Dukedom where he would remain for the next three years incognito before his inevitable capture. He was 21.

Seifer was formally charged with war crimes by an international court of law comprised of representatives from the countries of Galbadia, Dollet, Esthar, Trabia, and Balamb. He spent two years in D-District prison, pending execution when he was presented with a choice: to either await his inevitable end or return to Balamb Garden, listed in their records as an indentured servant, indefinitely. To ensure that he would not rot away in Garden, after a reasonable amount of time, he would be granted a review and given a final chance to retake his exams and gain the status of SeeDship.   

It is evident which choice he made – as Seifer is not one to spend the rest of his life rotting in a prison or willing to lie down and die.  Roughly six months after returning home, Seifer successfully completed his exams and earned his rank. With limited freedoms and harsh restrictions placed upon him through the Garden Administration, Seifer’s future, though bleak, shows promise.

Seifer is a war criminal who committed insidious acts against humanity through the direct manipulation of a time witch. Charges include but are not limited to:

International war crimes

Compromising neutral alliances

Illegal occupation of townships and harbors

Aiding and abetting

Theft of government property

Acts of domestic and international terrorism

Innumerable Garden Code violations

Arson

Treason

Murder

Seifer does not wear clothes from his game era. While he was on the run, Seifer purged his personal belongings, incinerating them so he could not be found. The only item he has kept from those days has been Hyperion.

He suffers PTSD as a direct result of Ultimecia’s indoctrination. She did not possess Seifer, but she used her influence and manipulation to sway him to do as she bid. This resulted in his own set of traumatic side effects.

Though Seifer is free from D-District Prison, as an indentured servant, he has severe restrictions placed upon him:

To ensure he is captured should there be any attempt to escape, Seifer has been fitted with a tracking device that is implanted deep under his skin. The device is approximately located in his inner right forearm, however, he is not aware of its exact location. 

There is a strict international travel ban which forbids him to travel alone to Galbadia, Trabia, Dollet or Esthar. 

He is not allowed to have contact with anyone outside of Garden. This does not stop him, as he is in possession of an unmonitored, unregistered mobile device identical to the one provided by Garden. 

He is restricted from the use of weapons, junctioning, and para-magic. He is permitted to train in the Training Center, and can use ‘dummy’ weapons and has use of the additional training facilities within Garden but absolutely cannot be given or allowed to have a weapon in his hands. 

He is ordered to receive regular psych exams and the Administration conducts annual evaluations that, depending on the outcome, grant him either more freedoms or restrict them. 

Based on this headcanon, Seifer can cast magic without the use of Junctioning. He is incompatible with GFs and will suffer severe consequences for using them. There are a very, small, select few who are aware of this ability. (Dr. Kadowaki, Edea and Cid Kramer are three.) Due to the concerns that arise regarding this ability, Seifer keeps this a secret and will deny outright that he cannot junction GFs.

In this verse, I determine that Timber is not yet been liberated and it is still an ongoing and grueling process involving painstaking negotiations between Galbadia and Timber. Within this verse, based on the canon dialogue listed here, I determine that Seifer is involved with various Timber resistance factions.

Seifer finds Garden to be a corrupt system that must systematically be destroyed, and so he actively works to fight against Galbadia and Garden however he can -- by supplying the Resistance with Garden-issued weapons and curatives to fight against Galbadia’s occupation.

He is able to sense and detect Sorceress magic. It resonates with the power that he holds within himself as a Knight. (Read more about this headcanon.)

Seifer main method of transportation is a motorbike, and despite being forbidden from travel, he will on occasion journey to Balamb town. It will be of no surprise to him if an Operative is sent to retrieve him.

This will be an open roleplay event that will begin Thursday, July 4th and continue through Sunday, July 14th!

Anyone can join in if you would like to; FFVIII muses are always encouraged, but not required! And, the more, the merrier; there is no limit on the number of people we have playing particular muses. In fact, we would like to get as many people as possible participating! All we ask is that you tag any festival-related starters, opens, or other posts with v; balamb summer festival so we can find each other and get those interactions going!

1. What’s your favourite book? That’s a good question, as I love to buy books, I’m often reading several at a time, and far more often than I’d like to admit, start on a new one before ever finishing the previous one. I guess a few of my favourite reads I love to go back to are Camus (especially Stranger and Myth of Sisyphus), Voltaire’s Candide and any of the Chekhov plays (but particularly Uncle Vanya and The Seagull).

2. Who’s your favourite female videogame character? It’s changed and shifted over the years, but I still have a soft spot for the ladies of FFVIII. Also really loving 2B of NieR Automata.

3. What do you study/have studied? I did a BA in Philosophy joint with FIlm studies, and currently I’m doing a MA in Screenwriting. 4. Favourite color? Blaaaaackkk (is so a color!!) Also gold, rust, petrol blue, blush and forest green.

5. What would be your ideal job? No surprises here, writer for film & tv. Also curious about directing. 6. Do you any big regret? I recently went through a minor life crisis as I turned 30 and regretted e v e r y t h i n g, like literally every choice in my past felt wrong and stupid. I’ve since recovered a bit and I guess I’m trying to return to my previous mindset of ‘everything that happens shapes you towards you’. I’m very happy where I am at the moment in regards to my career/personal development, and I like to believe in that most evolving happens when the time is right for it to happen, so I guess the tldr answer would be; no. 7. What was the first videogame you ever played? Pretty sure it was something stupid like Scooter’s Magic Castle on PC. And Ducktales for sega was one of the very early ones.

8. Among all the places you have been, which one is your favourite? Every place has it’s pros and cons. London on a free weeknight off, cause you can always find something fun to do. Berlin when you want to bike around and settle in a restaurant with great food for little money. Helsinki in the midsummer because the white nights are magical. I’ve been to Paris twice but I’ve romanticised it in my mind so that I always want to go back. I’ve never been to the US or Japan but both are strong candidates for next big trip abroad. 9. What form would your boggart take? Totally a crow.

10. Do you believe in aliens? I have an irrational fear of aliens, the gray big-eyed type, since I was quite young. My scientific mind does not believe we’ve ever been visited by ET, but I absolutely believe in other life in the universe.

11. Who’s your favourite artist? I love Yoshitaka Amano’s art, but I have to admit I’m not a connoisseur of the traditional arts. I enjoy going to galleries but I couldn’t tell you why I like something other than it gives me a cool vibe, or I like the colors. (edit:) I would like to add Toby Fox because Undertale is totally a masterpiece.

please bear in mind that if you’re uncomfortable with Anna being the ‘unnamed sorceress’ that appears in VIII’s lore, I can quite easily take it out. It makes nearly no difference to the overall verse, Seymour still tries to sacrifice his mother to get a taste of the sorceresses powers and she still ends up in hiding. She gets taken to Balamb anyway and ends up staying there, still opening up her orphanage with a garden out back.

an unnamed sorceress, lost to the ages, the only good sorceress that ever existed. that’s what the history ended up remembering her as. they couldn’t even remember her name, not even the one that the people gave her.

Anna (later known as Anima once her powers as a sorceress were revealed & word spread) was born into a moderately wealthy family. It wasn’t until Anna started showing signs of magical ability at the age of 17 that her parents realised she was a sorceress. None of them had any idea as to where it came from or who had passed it down to Anna, but because of their status, they were able to hide it well enough. Though there were some rumours of that Anna girl and their families garden’s doing better than others. Because Anna rarely had to go out and fight, it hadn’t been until the age of 17 that they’d started manifesting. She favours Earth type magics, though she does have a penchant for healing too.

At the age of 22, she met and was courted by a man named Jyscal Guado, the leader of a small country largely untouched by any other civilisation. They largely had no part in the Sorceress war because they had next to nothing to offer. After Anna begun to trust the man, she let him in on the fact that she was a sorceress and later, Jyscal swore to become to her knight. 2 years later, Anna moved across the sea and settled in with the man. Unfortunately for the pair, word got out that Anna was a sorceress, partly due to how well their crops started doing & the fact that their wounds were healed quicker than normal and because of the war that was currently raging, Jyscal’s people grew distrustful of her. 

Despite this Anna never gave up trying to defend the small country from danger. The daughter of a moderately wealthy family marrying a man from a relatively unknown country would draw some attention anyway. But, her earth magic meant the country thrived in terms of agriculture & they were able to get quite a good defence system in place with it too and would end up attracting more attention than anyone initially wanted. When Galbadia tried to infiltrate them, it was Anna that stood up for the people and moved them on.

A year after her arrival & marriage to Jyscal, Anna fell pregnant and later gave birth to a son named Seymour. She breathed a sign of relief that she hadn’t given birth to a daughter, having heard the stories of sorceresses passing their powers down to women. As time went on, the people’s distrust for Anna slowly faded away, though many were still apprehensive over the fact that she was a sorceress. They’d heard the stories too and despite all the good Anna was doing for them, the fact that they had nearly been invaded hadn’t sat well with them. 

During his formative years, Anna & Jyscal were doting parents. She tried to keep Seymour away from the whispering’s of her being a sorceress, the talk of the Sorceress War and what that meant for Seymour. However, with the increasing pressure from his country & the new attention they were receiving, Jyscal became more and more focused on his work. Seymour eventually caught onto his mother’s powers and what that could inevitably mean. If she were caught, she could be killed because all sorceresses turned out to be evil. He eventually started thinking about whether he could get the powers in her place, so that she wouldn’t be killed in people came knocking.

Seymour started thinking more and more about the sorceresses power & it started turning into an obsession toward the/post the Sorceress War. He was partly in awe at how kind & thoughtful his mother was, especially with her magic, but there was a counter that all the other sorceresses he heard about turned evil. He started obsessing over a way to get the power for himself, partially as a way to ‘save’ his mother, partly as a way to gain power to protect his country. It got to the point when he was older, where he actively sought out other sorceresses, despite Anna telling him otherwise. It ultimately failed, as Seymour continued to seek out a way to get this power for himself. 

Over the years, he started seeking out the sorceresses he heard about. His journey only led him to 3 sorceresses and it was only Ultimecia that ever really gave him more than a passing glance and even then, she was very harsh with the man. Though one thing got him remembered with Ultimecia and that was the fact that he let slip that his mother was a sorceress. The sorceress requested Seymour bring her to her and maybe she could do something about transferring his mother’s powers over to him. 

Seymour did what she asked and brought Anna along, not knowing that Jyscal had followed along, leaving his retainer to keep an eye on the country in his absence. Ultimecia dealt a rather fatal blow to Anna in front of Seymour, and yet, nothing happened. No power was transferred and Seymour was left with the knowledge that he’d brought the death of his mother and left his country to the hands of whoever decided to try and invade next. Ultimecia left, Seymour mourned, not knowing that his mother wasn’t dead and soon left, leaving only Jyscal hidden away, horrified at what had happened. Why Ultimecia never outright killed Anna there and there, nobody knew. Jyscal took her body, barely clinging to life, took her to the nearest place where nobody knew who she was, to as far away from the fighting as possible and left her there before returning to his country. Because she never died, her powers were never transferred. 

Seymour arrived a few days later, furious at his father over the fact that his mother was gone & that as her knight, he’d done nothing to save her. Jyscal tried to explain that they had tried to talk him out of it and hadn’t listened but that only sought to enrage Seymour more. Seymour murdered his own father and managed to hide it away. His obsession with the sorceresses was well hidden amongst a charming personality and he quickly took leadership over the country in place of his father. 

Several years passed and Anna had made a full recovery, but stayed away from Jyscal and his country. Word had reached even her ears that Jyscal had died and Seymour had taken over. She felt it was in her best interests as a mother, sorceress and a human to hide herself away. Her son had clearly lost his mind & if Jyscal truly was dead, she’d find no help back there. Her position as a sorceress, if it had gotten out as much as it had, meant she’d find no help in civilisation.

So, she waited it out. Once she was sure she was alive and well, she made her way to the coast and set up a little house near the beach, with a little garden out back. Unbeknown to her, her little cottage was near Balamb and as Balamb was never too caught up in the political war, it made sense she never got too many visitors. She minded her business, only popping into the closest town (Balamb) when absolutely necessary for things she couldn’t grow or find. She sometimes left a bouquet of flowers to the people that helped her out or healed the injured if she heard that someone sick had stumbled in. Her powers rarely got used and no-one would ever have known she was there. People never put 2 & 2 together about who Anna was, despite the gifts & odd things she did when she was there. It wasn’t until she heard on a day into town that the sorceress war had ended that she started making more frequent visits there.

After she was sure that everything was calm and peaceful, Anna slowly made her way to moving to the town. She set up shop as a matron of an Orphanage, much like Edea did, with a luscious (or as luscious as one could make it Balamb with sorceress powers you’re not supposed to let anyone know you have) garden behind it. She sometimes helped heal the sick if people needed it and she tried to not use her sorceress powers then too. She never found out what happened to Seymour or the little country that she once called home, but she misses it dearly.
