Fucking excuse me?      Has this woman finally gone mad here at sea?
As slowly as the captain moved her head to stare in offended disbelief, her hand had shot out like a startled bird.  With an angry grace, Red Jessica had snatched the frail ivory wrist into the grip of her own calloused paw and held it in a vice-like squeeze.
This new guest was testing the captain’s frankly waning patience.  It had been nothing but complaints, demands, snooping and, worst of all, attempted brown nosing with this one.  While Jess admittedly was far from  good at taking hints or reading a room, she was strangely excellent at picking people apart.  Nearly a week had past since her arrival aboard The Rose and the captain already knew exactly what kind of person this caged aristocrat was.  Weak.       Captain Red Jessica could have easily cut her and her daughters down like she did with most of that merchant ship’s sailors.  She would have, too; could have made a gorgeous new garment out of the fine fabrics of those tacky Mainlander clothes. She had killed for less before, after all, and she would have fewer mouths to feed.    Maybe she should remind this nosy fly of that.   ...or should she?

“ My, my, now don’t YOU know how to shower a lass with very pretty words.  Only trouble is,  I don’t recall us bein’ on such ...friendly terms so soon,
                                                                    Do you, my lady? ”
Her massive hand didn’t release the paper limb from its snare until her back straightened to her full height from her lean on the ship’s railing.  Jessica’s eyes burned with ire but her sneer was painted over by a crooked little grin.  How odd.  The captain was never one for discretion in any sense half the time but this woman... this woman was slippery.     There very well was a chance that this poor lady was actually truly being a flirt and nothing more.  Perhaps she was just starting to get over her unfortunate personality and made an awkward attempt to reach out.  Either way it’s rather rude to pluck at a curl from  a captains head just to see it boing and her reaction was the right one in any case. But she wasn’t sure, or perhaps just wasn’t convinced, of this pretty bug’s motivation quite yet.
   Yet.
A close hand is the smart choice for now,         and Red Jessica fully intended to place her chips accordingly.
