THE  LAST  HE  REALLY REMEMBERS is  the  weight of  both  the  beloved  star-crossed lovers  on  top  of  him  while  the  paralyzing  fog  crept  ever  closer, pouring out  in  ugly  billows  that  glare  against the  pitch  black  of  the  forest.  he  had  groaned  for those  dipshits  to  get  off  of  him  so  he  and  the  hope  of  revolution  could  at  least  die without  them  crushing him,  and  that  was  when  consciousness  had  begun  to  flicker.  he  is  aware  that  somehow they  escaped  the  death  fog  ( yay  )  and he  remembers  either crawling  or being  dragged  across cool  sand.  maybe  he  really is  dead  and  he’s  waking up  lying  on  the  coarse blanket  of  his  home, and  the  gentle sigh  of  the  tide  weakly thrusting  onto  the  shore  further lulls  him  into  this  fantasy. maybe  he  will  see  mags  here  since  she’s  dead  too.  she’s  dead.  

mags  ,  I  can’t  do  it.

I  CAN’T.

the invulnerable  finnick  odair  finally met  his  match, huh?  and  HE  couldn’t  and now  she’s  D E A D.

cool, salty  waves  are  caressing  below  his  neck,  and  though his  skin  stings angrily,  he  understands the  water  works  to  soothe what  damage  the  fog  caused. it’s  like  anvils are  sewn  to  his  eyes  when  he  lifts  them  open,  and  immediately  the  sky  punctured with  false  stars  begins  to  sway.  she’s  blurry,  but  he  sees  katniss  looking down  at  him,  and  beneath the  back  of  his  neck  he  feels  the  familiar slant  of  crossed legs  beneath  him.  her  hands  are  smoothing back  sweaty  waves  of  bronze, almost  tenderly,  the  way  annie  does  when  he  has  a  migraine.    

“  katniss…? ”  voice  is  corroded into  a  pained whisper.  it  doesn’t sound  like  his  own.  he  winces,  words  like  sandpaper against  his  throat, and  instead  brilliant hues  gaze  up  at  katniss, seeking  answers  to  questions  he  has  not  even  thought of.
