Free subject : Swedish !

As you may imagine, the king of Sweden has to speak Swedish, don’t you think ? Well I need to tell you more about this language. It is now spoken by about 9 milions of people on earth. Some people speak Swedish in FInland because it Sweden used to conquer Finland. I am from the Viking’s country, that used to communicate with drawn runes. Swedish comes directly from the evolution of this language. It has 3 additional letters from the latin alphabet which are : Å, Ö and Ä. Those letters produce sounds that are not in the other languages. In fact, Swedish speaking is very particular. A lot of sounds come from the bottom of our stomach. I personnaly find it really pleasent to hear. A lot of different dialects and accents exist in Swedish and they sound not the same at all. As an example, Gothenburg accent is said to sound like “birds singing” because it often goes from low to high, accentuating the prononciations. On another hand, Bolänge accent is much more monotone, and sound really serious.

MidSummer is here !

Wow ! It’s almost MidSummer ! My mother told me that during this day, Swedes celebrate the longest day of the year ! It is also usually a period when workers take their vacations. In some part of Sweden, especially north, the sun almost never sets ! As a contrary in winter, the sun almost never rises ! As a habit, Swede families meet up and celebrate midsummer together. I soooo want to be there and see all my royal family together ! Maybe I will have the chance to see some traditional dances and singings !

I have been sadly informed that yesterday, 7 April 2017, our great city of Stockholm has been under a terrorist attack.. In fact, a truck was driven on passengers and killed 5 people plus 15 injured.

An uncomprehensive move from ISIS, as far as Sweden is not involved in this conflict. People of Stockholm put flowers in the city in memory of the victims.

My father told me that Sweden as a peaceful and united country will not react to this lame attack. I have learnt a little more about how my country behaves.

A bus incident

I just entered the bus, and went sitting next to a random citizen, and here's what he said to me

Him : Hey, you know that what you did is rude ?

Me : Wow, sorry ? What did I do wrong ?

Him : Well us Swedes have our notion of private space. If you see some free sits, you'd better go to the ones that do not already have someone sitting next to. It looks awkward.

Me : Oh of course sorry I forgot ! My dad told me that long ago..

Him : It is ok, now you will understand a little bit more about Swedes behaviour ! A lot of respect, and everything square !

Sitting on a good chair

Today is 15 September 1973, and my grandfather King Gustaf VI Adolf just died.. All the family is in tears. He was a great man.

As a consequence it is also my coronation day. Today I become the king of sweden. My role will be a little bit like the Quenne of England. My main purpose will be to represent the country at the international. The decisions and power belong to the prime minister Stefan Löfven (2014)

The main occupation of the current government is gender equality as you can see on our website https://sweden.se/society/gender-equality-in-sweden/

Regarding our international conflicts, we don’t have any and we don’t want any. In fact we haven’t been in war for more than 200 years ! I will try to represent duely this peaceful country !

Royal mom choses my university..

My mom wants me to go to Karlstad’s University at Universitetsgatan 2, 651 88 Karlstad. I didn’t know they had “king of sweden studies” there..! It used to be part of the University of Gothenburg and became “independant” in 1999. The brand Karlstad Business School was created in 2009 by both IT and Economics departments. It is far from Stockholmes but hopefully they propose some housing ! Pfiew ! They have a 10min by foot campus located north of the University. One good thing is that they have quite a low rent (4000sek/month, or 410€/month). I will live in a community as far as everyone will live there and share the same kitchen. I may also be mixed with internationals ! That looks great !

My first experiences at Karlstad University

My first day at Karlstad University was nice ! I was welcomed in a conference room with all the international students. The international office presented us the University, They started by the grading part. They explained that we have three different types of possible result : Not passed, passed and passed with distinctions. They also explained us how to register to the courses and the exam. They finally did a quick briefing about how to use the intranet. Then they moved on information about the university itself, with a visit. This university had a big load of help for students. Starting from printing centers, to sport facilities, and also a silence room. The University has a lot of associations for students such as the student union, or sports associations. After we have been invited to a visit of the city organised by University’s students. The week after, my first lessons started ! It was very different from what I have been used to. In fact, most of the lessons are seminars. We have to prepare a paper or an assignment, and we debate/build the lesson together, students with the teacher. If found this methodology really interesting. Most of the time there is no true “wrong answer”. The subjects are open so we can often and easily debate in class. All the answers are brought together, giving us a wider and better course content. One thing I noticed is that all students are quiet and respectful for the teacher. We can freely leave the classroom if we do not disturb. One important thing in Swedish education is debate and participation. As a consequence we are well invited to raise our hand and give our opinion. Karlsad University raised me well !
