25 - senseless

I woke up this morning with this scene fully-formed in my head and had to share it as quickly as possible. prompts here.

“You know you don’t have to put up with that,” Kerry told V, as he collapsed back onto the couch next to her with a bag of snacks.

She made a half-hearted attempt to pull her hand away from Johnny, who was industriously drawing on her palm with black marker and refused to yield his canvas. “It was easier not to fight it.”

“Stop squirming,” Johnny ordered, which inspired V to go limp and look at Kerry with those awful, pleading gray eyes.

“I’m staying out of this one,” he said, wisely, and offered her the bag. She delicately picked out one long cheese curl and ate it with the solemn air of one condemned to eternal suffering.

“All done,” Johnny said finally, releasing her hand with a pleased flourish.

V was silent as she studied the result, ignoring his overbearing shit-eating grin. “It’s a little crooked.”

“I told you stop mov–“

There was a soft smack as V’s palm hit Johnny’s cheek, leaving behind the perfect imprint of the rather lopsided dick and then plunging them all into a sudden silence. Slowly, Johnny’s hand rose, but before he could reach the ink, Kerry’s senses returned to him and he dove across the couch. After a short two-against-one scuffle, he and V emerged victorious, all of them panting slightly for breath as he kept Johnny’s arms pinned behind him.

“You’re gonna fucking get it,” Johnny threatened, trying and failing to wriggle out of Kerry’s grip.

“Don’t listen to him, V,” Kerry crowed breathlessly. “Get the other side!”

In the temperance ending, I'm thinking about the messages Johnny left on delivered. I'm thinking about him painstakingly responding to them, especially Kerry. To the anger and the sadness in the messages. It's a simple response, and a change of his contact name. "Not V, sorry Ker." [V changed their contact name to Johnny] but Johnny doesn't block the number. He doesn't delete the contact. He doesn't explain, but he understands the string of angry messages. The 'how could you?!'s and the accusations. He gets it, although not really responding to them. It's like back then, leaving messages on read when he can't bear to respond to them. It hurts him as much as it hurts Kerry. They both lost something and Johnny can't begin to explain how it feels to lose like that
