For those of us who know very little about DND (me. I'm asking for myself) could you explain wild magic?
(( Basically the premise of sorcerers is that they just Have Magic. They don’t study it, it’s just in them. Either by some exotic ancestry or exposure to another plane or a fluke of some kind. They just… figure out magic themselves on their own.
( As compared to wizards who study their magic extensively and learn from tomes and mentors, etc. )
So within DND there’s two “origins” for sorcerers. Draconic, which means some distant ancestor made a sick deal with a dragon and now sorcery kinda runs in the bloodline but when exactly it comes up kinda just depends.
Then there’s the wild magic origin which covers… pretty much every other possible way to become a sorcerer. This particular origin has the… caveat of wild magic surge which essentially means that there’s a chance, with every sorcery spell a sorcerer casts, that something else will happen. It’s a fairly rare thing and the effects range from randomly healing to turning into a potted plant to catching shit on fire just by touching it to dealing damage to everyone around you, etc.
Personally, considering this flavor text within the 5e description, “A sorcerer’s magic wants to be wielded, andit has a tendency to spill out in unpredictable ways ifit isn’t called on.” I think that wild magic surge can also happen when a spell has not been cast in a long time. Which is a Problem for Franziska.
I considered draconic origins but then went NAH and decided Franziska’s innate and powerful magical ability was more of a fluke at birth. And Manfred was a cowardly asshole who didn’t want to deal with the chaos inherently involved with Franziska’s casting. ))

What's the paladin spell you're best at?
“You’re mistaken stranger, I can’t cast anything.” The lie is practiced, drilled into her by her father. Something in her veins crackles in spiteful rebellion of the words, but her face doesn’t change.

(( Sorcerer!Franziska who physically lashes out because everything in her veins demands that she cast, but she refuses to risk the possible chaos and she doesn’t know many spells anyhow.
Everyone wonders how the actual fuck she can even have levels in paladin with her temper and tendency to just Fight™
“You’re devoted to law and order, right??” “Of course.” “.......last night the cops had to drag you out of a tavern because you started fighting with everyone who looked at you funny.......”
And she’s constantly surrounded by rumors because how could a family known for their great wizards produce a mediocre paladin? Honestly with her reluctance for casting I think she may even be read as a fighter. In which case there’s so much “Ah, it’s such a shame your daughter didn’t have any arcane gifts, Mr. Von Karma.”
A lie he’s glad to let thrive to save face.
OH FUCK ME MANFRED STRAIGHT UP ORDERING FRANZISKA TO NEVER CAST AT ALL EVEN WHEN SHE TAKES UP BEING A PALADIN JUST TO ENSURE NO ONE WONDERS WHY SHE DIDNT BECOME A WIZARD WHEN IT’S CLEAR SHE CAN TAP INTO MAGICAL WELLSPRINGS
SO SHE’S DEFINITELY READ AS A FIGHTER. FUCK ME. ))

(( i was thinking abt my dnd verse & like i just imagined Maya trying to help Franziska be more comfortable with her casting
Like the Fey Clan is one of monks ( with a dash of necromancy ), yeah, but Maya figures some of the stuff with ki oughta help a little right?? Ki and sorcerer magic are inherent in the body and don’t require tomes to use so like....
Yeah so I had that thought and started fucking crying ))

What Kind Of D&D Character Are You?
Miles -  Lawful Good Human Wizard (4th Level) Franziska -  Lawful Good Human Paladin/Sorcerer (2nd/1st Level)
Tagged by: i straight up stole this so like Tagging: do it
Tumblr media
Ability Scores: Strength- 12 Dexterity- 12 Constitution- 10 Intelligence- 17 Wisdom- 15 Charisma- 12 Lawful Good- A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. He combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. He tells the truth, keeps his word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished. Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion. However, lawful good can be a dangerous alignment when it restricts freedom and criminalizes self-interest. Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.
Wizards- Wizards are arcane spellcasters who depend on intensive study to create their magic. To wizards, magic is not a talent but a difficult, rewarding art. When they are prepared for battle, wizards can use their spells to devastating effect. When caught by surprise, they are vulnerable. The wizard's strength is her spells, everything else is secondary. She learns new spells as she experiments and grows in experience, and she can also learn them from other wizards. In addition, over time a wizard learns to manipulate her spells so they go farther, work better, or are improved in some other way. A wizard can call a familiar- a small, magical, animal companion that serves her. With a high Intelligence, wizards are capable of casting very high levels of spells.

Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like. Primary Class: Paladins- Paladins take their adventures seriously, and even a mundane mission is, in the heart of the paladin, a personal test an opportunity to demonstrate bravery, to learn tactics, and to find ways to do good. Divine power protects these warriors of virtue, warding off harm, protecting from disease, healing, and guarding against fear. The paladin can also direct this power to help others, healing wounds or curing diseases, and also use it to destroy evil. Experienced paladins can smite evil foes and turn away undead. A paladin's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that they can cast. Many of the paladin's special abilities also benefit from a high Charisma score. Secondary Class: Sorcerers- Sorcerers are arcane spellcasters who manipulate magic energy with imagination and talent rather than studious discipline. They have no books, no mentors, no theories just raw power that they direct at will. Sorcerers know fewer spells than wizards do and acquire them more slowly, but they can cast individual spells more often and have no need to prepare their incantations ahead of time. Also unlike wizards, sorcerers cannot specialize in a school of magic. Since sorcerers gain their powers without undergoing the years of rigorous study that wizards go through, they have more time to learn fighting skills and are proficient with simple weapons. Charisma is very important for sorcerers; the higher their value in this ability, the higher the spell level they can cast.

Are those flame symbols on the pauldrons?
(( they’re supposed to be smaller, stylized wings but space is a fun issue to work around ^^ she is a paladin and does feel a compulsion to indicate as much on her armor somehow, even if she’s aware she’s a pretty shitty paladin because of her father’s limits and her own fears.
it’s not a gaudy addition, just a slight nod to a class she feels both apart of and disconnected from ))

Who said I wanted to say anything? But some other keen-eyed wanderer might. I know a customer in need when I see one. *opens cloak to reveal several pouches* Antimagic charms. Potent ones. ((note: as far as I can tell, stuff like this doesn’t exist in DND, so this guy’s probably a fraud))
“Say another word and I’ll ensure you never speak again.” Does he think she’s a fool? Or that her father hadn’t already tried?
Nothing that could help her existed.

DND Franziska, what would you do if word of your little chaos problem got out?
Her gauntlets clatter as her fists clench. “Say a word and I’ll end your life here.” She already knows she’s a disgrace to her family, the whole countryside doesn’t need to know too.

Now I'm having feelings about low charisma/wisdom paladin/sorceror Franziska
(( YEAH YEAH I KNOW
JUST FRANZISKA HAVING ALL THIS WILD MAGIC BUT BARELY KNOWING WHAT TO DO WITH IT. LIKE SHE’S TRYING. VON KARMAS ARE WIZARDS BUT HER FATHER ONLY TEACHES MILES AND SOMETIMES WHEN SHE TRIES TO TEACH HERSELF SHE CAN CAST A SPELL PROFICIENTLY BUT THEN SOMETHING ELSE WEIRD/DANGEROUS HAPPENS
and she goes into fighting instead because at least she isn’t risking chaos with magic and her paladin status happens due to her extreme devotion to law and order. She’s good at it, but can’t help but feel like she failed somehow. She rarely casts paladin spells, worried about the wild magic surge. ))
