when v worked for arasaka, he didn't have his ~iconic~ lavender colored spectacle shades. instead they were red to match the arasaka color palette because a bitch needs to match.

rei had adopted a far more serious persona while working for arasaka, very rarely finding much joy if any in his existence and employment both, kept awake at night by stress and losing weight due to frequent loss of appetite.

for months after getting the boot, paranoia plagued him, reducing his appetite even further. it was only through insistence from jackie, misty, and mama welles that he managed to start gaining an appetite again. he wouldn't gain all of his weight back that he had lost, but would regain some few pounds and maintain them consistently.

reijiro didn't normally celebrate his birthday due to his past trauma concerning his family, gender identity and transition, foster care, and his mental health throughout university. but nowadays he will rebel against the idea that he wasn't worth anything by going out and getting himself a little birthday cake and giving his cats little birthday meals.

thanks to a rigorous, life-long skincare routine, reijiro doesn't quite look his age in later years, the only indication being the slight silverish tinge to his hair.

reijiro's preferred birthday dessert consists of no-bake cheesecake.

v will casually speak japanese to anyone he knows who also speaks it, including minako (@neuroslayyer), takemura, oda, and hanako. japanese is his first language but you wouldn't be able to tell by his westcoast americanized accent, having learned english very early on and using both languages frequently as a child. with people he becomes close to (or just likes in general) he will typically use honorifics with their name, though it's hard to tell if he's mocking them (in the case of johnny or takemura) or being genuine (in the case of minako and hanako).

Mostly starts doing this after getting the boot from arasaka (meaning he greets @prvtocol with headbutts now too) because he goes from despairing the absolute nihilism of night city to ":3"

reijiro would be in school and residential nursing by the time the events of yakuza 0 occur, and has no major roll to play in any of the events beyond training and helping / learning how to treat patients in the emergency room. he remembers, however, how swamped the streets of kamurocho were with yakuza from numerous families combing the place for certain someones. when the violence in the streets got to be too much for him to handle, he would sleep in touto hospital rather than risking the walk back home to his little apartment by himself. he'd been jumped and intimidated by yakuza before, and didn't want to face a possible beatdown / mugging when the yakuza seemed so especially agitated.

v and oda very nearly kill each other during the parade. v sustained heavy injuries for which he needed to drag himself to viktor, his left arm very nearly having been severed completely from oda's mantis blades. it would only be by takemura's pleading that oda survived the encounter, v having been more than ready to end him after the fight with his blade at his throat. the fight against oda would be one of, if not The Most harrowing encounter he's ever had in his life.

v goes by 'v' but his real name is ito reijiro, a personal detail that he never, if ever, brings up. very few people know his real name, such information becoming only available to those he becomes very close to. johnny, of course, would likely find this information if he peered into v's memories enough, but one would be hard pressed to get this information out of him. the only folks outside of his family who have this information are trauma team, arasaka, and arasaka constituents. he would have told jackie his real name after the success of the heist in konpeki plaza. alas...

i should be sleeping but i am thinking about reijiro's cats. he has 2 that lives with him in kamurocho, a gray sphynx and a black oriental shorthair. the sphynx is named kumo, and the shorthair is named yoru. they yell whenever he is in the shower (he is in danger)(they must save him)

reijiro in his yakuza verse has tattoos, but they are in places that are well hidden unless he's shirtless. on his right side he has a long, S shaped design of bright blue and violet butterflies that covers up a scar from having been stabbed on a trip to sotenbori. on his left scapula, he has a snake wrapped around a cane halo'd by a white-gold sun. and around his ankle is a squid. he just likes squids.

yakuza. verse info.

     ito reijiro is a doctor living just outside kamurocho and working in his own clinic as a general practitioner as well as trauma surgeon. having worked at touto hospital in the past during the 90s, he was able to break away from the larger institutions of medicine and start his own clinic within kamurocho, notably tucked safely within the kazama family territory. having had to deal with yakuza before in the past, he’s offered to take in yakuza as patients so long as they don’t cause trouble or damage to the property. due to the services he provides to yakuza members, his protection fee is substantially reduced considering he provides free expert care to yakuza members.

     reijiro generally doesn’t mind the arrangement, and his gentle but firm personality typically keeps people from messing with him. however, for his own safety, he carries mace with him wherever he goes, and has no qualms with threatening to cut people open with a scalpel should they try to attack him (he knows EXACTLY where to aim). while yakuza are known to be feared and respected, reijiro often greets them casually with a smile, but makes it known he doesn’t tolerate foolishness, especially in his clinic, where he accepts others seeking his services as well. other than yakuza, the chinese and korean inhabitants of kamurocho are welcome, as well as the regular japanese citizens.

     the general yakuza (tentative) timeline for reijiro is as follows:

birth - july 17 1965

medical schooling - late 1980′s

hired at touto hospital as trauma/general surgeon - 1991 ~ 1997

leaves touto hospital and starts his own clinic in kamurocho - 1998 ~ 2014

sabbatical (works at stardust) - 2014 ~ 2015

accepts position as forensic/medical examiner - 2015 - present

the sacrifice.

you die saving the thing you love. maybe it is family, friends, or perhaps even a cause. they will carry your face with them for the rest of their lives, and every milestone they pass will make them think of you. it does not matter because you won't be there to experience it with them. years down the line, they will meet people who do not even know the weight of your name upon their skin. this is what your selflessness gets you in the end...

reijiro making money during his college days by working as a bartender at a cabaret club and at a bar in the champion district. he is exhausted but studying between drinks, between shifts, and on breaks. subsists on cheap food from poppo and m mart, has to be reminded to eat sometimes. gets taken care of by the mamas and drag queens in the champion district bc he is their baby and they want him to be happy and healthy and succeed.
