A few days ago, Aotrend Optoelectronics launched a new generation of high-transmittance AlN single crystal substrates for deep ultraviolet optoelectronic devices.

The third-party test shows that the deep ultraviolet transmittance of the substrate has achieved a deep ultraviolet absorption coefficient (Absorption Coefficient) as low as 17-26cm-1 in the far ultraviolet (Far-UVC) 220-240nm band, reaching the best level in the world (as shown in Figure 1), and the UV absorption coefficient of the substrate measured at the deep ultraviolet 265 nm wavelength is also as low as 15.03 cm-1, which breaks through the optimal result of the absorption coefficient of AlN single crystal substrate of Austrend Optoelectronics in this band.

The selection of ultraviolet wavelength is very important to improve the sterilization efficiency. At present, 260-280 nm is a typical deep ultraviolet sterilization wavelength and is gradually realizing industrialization, but its potential harm to the human body is still controversial.

Studies have shown that due to the strong absorption in the stratum corneum of the skin (as shown in Figure 2), the far ultraviolet light in the 220-240nm band can not only kill various viruses, bacteria and molds including the new coronavirus, but also is safe for human exposure , will not cause damage to mammalian skin. Therefore, the far-ultraviolet UVC-LED that can directly irradiate the human body without potential harm is a current international research hotspot and future trend.
