this is kind of misleadingly phrased, so just to be clear: UV-C exposure is very painful and can cause vision loss, but it's temporary! no one's getting permanently blinded here.
it's basically like getting a sunburn in your eye, which is incredibly uncomfortable and painful, but heals on its own. the only way it can permanently blind people is if it happens repeatedly over time.
#fun fact this exact phenomenon is why you should wear eye protection while welding#and in polar areas with lots of snow and ice#god but it sounds like it sucks majorly#if you get blacklights for your party/con/whatever make sure they are BLACK lights#not germicidal uv lights.#if it can kill germs it can damage your eyes. badly.

Ultimate Guide For Buying The Best Air Purifier In UAE
Being that the climate is often dusty and pollution, in general, fluctuates in the UAE, maintaining indoor air quality becomes an important necessity. Air purifiers have gained huge popularity to filter clean air inside one's house or office/any living space.
Be it allergen-free, reduction of pollutants, or a healthier domestic environment, read along to discover all you need to know before choosing the best air purifier for you in the UAE.
An air purifier is an electronic device used to cleanse air by removing impurities such as dust, allergens, mold, smoke, and other harmful chemicals. It cleans the air and improves indoor air quality, especially being very helpful for those who carry allergies or asthma or other sorts of respiratory problems.
Why Should You Buy an Air Purifier?
There are many reasons why investing in an air purifier may be very fruitful, especially in the UAE where dust and other allergens are a prevalent issue -
Clean Air Quality - With increased pollution and indoor pollutants such as pet dander, mold, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), having an air purifier can greatly enhance the air you breathe at your place of residence or work.
Reduce the severity of allergies and asthma attacks - For people who are allergic or have asthma, an air purifier can more or less remove common allergens such as pollen, dust mites, and pet hair, thus cleansing the air to minimize allergic reactions or asthma attacks.
Reduction of Odour - Air purifiers can remove irritating odors, from smoking, cooking or pet. It is particularly useful in smaller rooms, where a home or apartment, for example, unwanted smells sometimes become a source of frustration.
Healthier Living Environment - Air purifiers will remove bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms present in the air, which could possibly diminish the spread of airborne diseases and maybe make for a healthier indoor environment for your family.
How Does an Air Purifier Work?
The basic principle of this device is the combination of purification technologies that will eliminate harmful particles in the air that are neutralized.
Fan or Air Intake - The device sucks in the surrounding air through a fan or the intake of the air of the device. As the air travels through the machine, it gets drawn into a set of filters.
Filtration System - Most air purifiers used multiple filters to trap different types of pollutants. Examples include:
HEPA Filters - These are filters that are considered high efficiency for catching particles since they trap up to 99.97% of particles that are 0.3 microns or larger from dust, pollen, mold spores, and even pet dander.
Activated Carbon Filters - These incorporate gas and odour captures by adsorbing air molecules. They are especially useful for removal of VOCs, smoke, and cooking smells.
Pre-filters - These capture large particles such as dust and hair before they enter the main filter, thereby helping extend the life of HEPA and carbon filters.
UV Light - UV-C light technology is accompanied with most of the air purifiers; it kills airborne bacteria and viruses, which creates another air barrier as far as germs are concerned.
Air Circulation - After passing through filters, the cleaned air reaches the room. Air is constantly circulated, ensuring that pollutants are cleared indoors over time.
Things to Keep in Mind While Purchasing an Air Purifier
Before buying an air purifier in the UAE, certain factors should be taken into account to suit the best for specific needs. Here is the segmentation of what to look for in detail -
Room Size and Coverage
The key size consideration is the room that it will be used in. Air purifiers come in sizes suitable for particular square-foot or meter measurements, so care must be taken to select a model that can work in your rooms at least as large as they are to purify them effectively.
For example, if you need to purify a large sitting room, the model has to be able to display a high Clean Air Delivery Rate CADR so as to handle larger spaces. On the other hand, to smaller places such as bedrooms or offices, a small capacity mini air purifier will suffice.
Type of Filters
Consider the type of filters that will be used by the air purifier. If a general-purpose filter that is to be used at home is desired, look for one with a combination of both HEPA and activated carbon inclusions, which is excellent because it can capture a wide range of pollutants, such as dust, allergens, and odors. If you are interested in reducing airborne germs or viruses, find a model with a UV-C light further to sterilize.
Noise Level
Other air purifiers make very much noise in their operation, especially if it is to be run at a high speed. If you will be using your air purifier in a bedroom or office, look for that one that has a silent operation mode or has a low decibel (dB) rating. Most air purifiers have different fan speed settings, therefore, it is up to you to decide on whether you prefer the higher noise emission or low noise emission while using it.
Energy Efficiency
Since air purifiers usually operate for long hours, you might be able to save on your electricity bill by investing in an energy-efficient model. There are also well-known air purifiers that can claim to be Energy Star certified, referring to the fact that the product meets the energy efficiency guidelines of the regulatory authorities.
Maintenance and Filter Replacement
Maintenance has to be routine for the air purifier to function optimally. For example, HEPA filters must be replaced after 6 to 12 months of use. Then, there is the activated carbon filter that needs to be changed at intervals. While making an online purchase in the UAE, it would be best to seek quotations and sources of the replacement filter.
Smart Features
Modern purifiers boast advanced technology that includes sensors for air quality, Wi-Fi capabilities, and mobile application control to check and control the pure air purifier even from another room. Many models come with auto mode, which changes the purifier's settings according to the real-time measurements of air quality.
Budget
Air purifiers in the UAE run on very high to low ranges depending on the brand and how some of them just invest in making a purifier. Decide your budget but don't compromise for that because buying a quality model will benefit you even more for health and comfort purposes in the long run.
Brand and Warranty
The durability and performance mainly depend on a reputable brand - in addition, choose one with at least a 1-2 year warranty for added peace of mind.
Where to Buy Air Purifiers in the UAE?
You will find online and offline ranges of air purifiers in the UAE to help you out in purchasing an ideal one. Here are some of the best places to purchase an air purifier -
Online Sites
It's easy to shop online when you want to compare prices, features, and reviews from the people who have used those products previously. One can get a good number of air purifiers within this website where online portals such as Tesla Innovation, Noon.com, and Carrefour UAE assure any air purifier with discounts and door-to-door delivery across UAE.
Electronics Stores
Some of the major electronics retailers carrying a wide selection of air purifiers in Sharaf DG, Jumbo Electronics, and Emax. Other than getting a real feel for the product in buying in stores, you can also ask questions and even get demonstrations before the actual purchase.
Home Appliance Stores
There are shops like Carrefour, Lulu Hypermarket, and Ace Hardware. You can find air purifiers in the dedicated area for home appliances in each of these stores. Many shops are having in-store promotions that sometimes coincides with major shopping events like Dubai Shopping Festival or Ramadan Sale.
Conclusion
The ultimate air purifier should one that actually makes a difference-reducing allergens, eliminating odors, and making the indoor environment healthier. When selecting the perfect air purifier that suits your needs, several features to consider in an air purifier include the size of the room, filtration system, noise level, as well as budget. And with ample on-the-web and in-the-store options, getting the best air purifier in the UAE has never been so easy.

The Difference Between RO and Regular Purifiers
In today’s world, having access to clean drinking water is essential for a healthy lifestyle. With various purification technologies available, it can be challenging to choose the right purifier for your needs. Two popular types are RO (Reverse Osmosis) purifiers and regular purifiers. Let’s break down the differences between them to help you make an informed decision.
RO Purifiers
RO purifiers make use of a semi-permeable membrane to eliminate impurities from water. This advanced technology eliminates harmful substances such as heavy metals, fluoride, chlorine, and even microorganisms like bacteria and viruses. RO systems are ideal for areas where the water contains high levels of dissolved solids (TDS), such as salts and metals. The outcome is sterile, mineral-free water that is safe to consume. RO services in Rohini offer a variety of models to suit different needs and budgets, from basic under-the-sink systems to high-capacity whole-house purifiers.
Key benefits of RO purifiers include:
Eliminates dissolved solids such as lead, arsenic, and nitrates.
Reduces water hardness, making it softer and better for appliances.
Effective in areas with poor water quality, offering maximum protection.
Regular Purifiers
Regular water purifiers, such as UV (Ultraviolet) or UF (Ultrafiltration) systems, focus primarily on eliminating bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms. UV purifiers use ultraviolet light to kill germs, while UF purifiers use filters to block contaminants. These purifiers are effective in areas where the water is microbiologically unsafe but has low TDS levels. RO purifier repair and installation in Rohini is often recommended for areas where the water has high levels of dissolved solids, such as salts and minerals.
Advantages of regular purifiers:
Affordable and easy to maintain.
Capable of getting rid of pathogens without unnecessarily using water.
Retains essential minerals in water.
Conclusion
While RO purifiers offer superior protection by removing dissolved impurities, regular purifiers are suitable for areas where water quality is already decent but requires disinfection. Choose based on your water quality and household needs to ensure safe and clean drinking water for your family.

Ozone Generators vs. Other Air Purifiers: What’s Best for Your Home?
Maintaining good indoor air quality is essential for a healthy home environment. With rising concerns about allergens, pollutants, and viruses, choosing the right air purifier is more important than ever. There are several popular air purification methods on the market, including ozone generators, HEPA filters, UV air purifiers, and activated carbon filters. This article aims to compare these methods, highlighting their benefits and drawbacks to help you decide the best choice for your home.
What Are Ozone Generators? Ozone generators are air purifiers designed to produce ozone, a gas composed of three oxygen atoms. These devices create ozone by using electrical currents or ultraviolet light to split oxygen molecules, which then recombine to form ozone. The idea behind ozone generation is that ozone molecules can react with pollutants and odors, breaking them down and neutralizing them.
Advantages of Ozone Generators
Effectiveness in Odor Removal Ozone generators are particularly effective in eliminating strong and stubborn odors, such as those from pets, smoke, mold, and cooking. Ozone molecules can oxidize these odors, breaking down the molecules that cause unpleasant smells.
Mold and Bacteria Elimination Because of ozone’s oxidative properties, it can help reduce the presence of mold, mildew, and bacteria in the air. This can be particularly useful in damp environments where mold growth is a concern.
Cost and Availability Ozone generators are generally more affordable than some other air purifying technologies. They are widely available in stores and online, making them a convenient choice for those looking for an immediate solution to odor problems.
Disadvantages of Ozone Generators
Health Risks One of the biggest concerns with ozone generators is the potential health risks associated with ozone exposure. Ozone is a lung irritant that can cause respiratory problems, chest pain, coughing, and throat irritation. Prolonged exposure can exacerbate asthma and other respiratory conditions.
Regulatory Warnings Many health organizations, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), have issued warnings against using ozone generators for air purification. The consensus is that the potential health risks outweigh the benefits, particularly in residential settings.
Limited Effectiveness on Particulates Ozone generators are not effective at removing particulate matter such as dust, pollen, and pet dander. This makes them less suitable for individuals with allergies or asthma who need to reduce airborne particulates.
HEPA Filters: High-Efficiency Particulate Air Filters
How They Work HEPA filters operate by mechanically trapping airborne particles in a fine mesh. These filters are capable of capturing 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, including dust, pollen, pet dander, and some bacteria.
Pros HEPA filters are highly effective at removing particulates from the air, making them an excellent choice for allergy sufferers and those with asthma. They are also good at trapping pet dander and dust mites, which are common indoor allergens.
Cons HEPA filters do not remove odors, gases, or volatile organic compounds (VOCs). They also require regular maintenance and replacement, which can add to the overall cost.
UV Air Purifiers: Ultraviolet Light Purification
How They Work UV air purifiers use ultraviolet light, specifically UV-C, to kill or inactivate microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, and mold spores. The UV light damages the DNA or RNA of these pathogens, rendering them harmless.
Pros UV air purifiers are effective against biological contaminants, making them a good choice for sterilizing air and reducing the spread of germs and viruses. They work well in conjunction with other air purification methods, such as HEPA or carbon filters.
Cons UV air purifiers are not effective at removing particulates, odors, or gases from the air. Additionally, prolonged exposure to UV light can be harmful, so these devices must be designed to prevent UV light from escaping.
Activated Carbon Filters: Adsorption-Based Filtration
How They Work Activated carbon filters remove contaminants through a process called adsorption, where gases and chemical fumes adhere to the surface of the carbon. This makes them effective at trapping odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Pros Activated carbon filters are excellent at removing odors, smoke, and chemical fumes. They are often used in conjunction with HEPA filters to provide a more comprehensive air purification system.
Cons Activated carbon filters are not effective at capturing particulates like dust or pollen. They also require frequent replacement, as their adsorption capacity diminishes over time.
Comparative Analysis: Which Air Purifier is Best?
Use Case Scenarios The best air purifier for your home depends on your specific needs:
For Odor Removal: Ozone generators and activated carbon filters are effective, but carbon filters are safer and do not produce harmful ozone.
For Allergens and Particulates: HEPA filters are the best choice as they effectively remove dust, pollen, and pet dander. For Biological Contaminants: UV air purifiers can complement other systems by killing bacteria and viruses, making them suitable for reducing airborne pathogens.
Effectiveness Each purification method has its strengths. Ozone generators excel at odor elimination but have significant health risks. HEPA filters are highly effective for particulates, while UV purifiers target microorganisms, and activated carbon filters handle gases and odors.
Health and Safety HEPA and activated carbon filters are generally safe for home use and do not produce harmful byproducts. UV air purifiers are safe when used correctly, but ozone generators pose significant health risks and are not recommended for residential use.
Cost and Maintenance Ozone generators are typically less expensive upfront but can have hidden costs due to potential health issues. HEPA filters and UV air purifiers can be more expensive initially but often have lower long-term costs when considering health benefits. Activated carbon filters require frequent replacement, which can add to maintenance costs.
Conclusion Choosing the best air purifier depends on understanding the specific needs of your home and weighing the benefits and risks of each technology. For most households, HEPA filters or a combination of HEPA and activated carbon filters offer a safe and effective solution for improving indoor air quality. UV air purifiers can be a valuable addition for sterilizing air from biological contaminants. However, ozone generators should be avoided due to the potential health risks associated with ozone exposure.

How UV Disinfection Equipment Works to Reduce Germs and Bacteria
UV technology basics In order to understand how UV disinfection equipment works, it's important to first know some basics about UV technology. Ultraviolet (UV) light refers to a type of electromagnetic radiation that is just outside of the visible light spectrum. UV light can be grouped into four categories based on wavelength - UV-A, UV-B, UV-C, and Vacuum UV. Of these categories, it is UV-C light that is most effective for disinfection purposes as its shorter wavelengths between 200 and 280 nanometers are highly germicidal. When UV-C light strikes microbial cells like bacteria, viruses, molds, and other pathogens, it damages their DNA and RNA through a process called thymine dimerization. This prevents the microbes from reproducing and effectively kills them. Different microbes require different doses of UV-C light to be sufficiently inactivated, but in general UV Disinfection Equipment aims to deliver doses above 20 mJ/cm2 to achieve at least a 99.9% reduction in pathogens. The key factor is ensuring exposure of the microbes to sufficient amounts of UV-C light. Types of UV disinfection technologies There are two main types of UV technologies used in disinfection equipment - low pressure and medium pressure. Low pressure lamps emit UV light across the entire UV-C range, while medium pressure lamps produce radiation at a single wavelength of 254nm which corresponds to the peak absorption for DNA and RNA. Low pressure UV systems: These utilize low pressure mercury vapor lamps which are long and tubular in design. Due to their ability to emit broad spectrum UV light, they are well-suited for applications like air and ventilation system disinfection. The lamps have large surface areas which allow them to effectively treat air or water flows. Medium pressure UV systems: Using higher pressure mercury vapor lamps, these systems produce monochromatic 254nm UV-C light. Due to the single wavelength output, they can deliver more potent germicidal doses. Medium pressure lamps have compact designs well-suited for point-of-use applications like water disinfection. They are able to achieve higher intensities than low pressure lamps. UV disinfection in water treatment A core application of UV disinfection equipment is in water treatment, where it serves as a highly effective means to inactivate pathogens that may be present. Both low and medium pressure UV systems are widely used at municipal water treatment facilities, as well as for treating other water sources like wastewater, pools/spas, industrial process water, and more. How UV water treatment works: Water flows through a treatment chamber outfitted with UV lamps. As the water is exposed to UV-C light energy, microbes are deactivated based on the dosage level. Typical municipal water treatment may involve several UV reactors to achieve 4-log (99.99%) inactivation of viruses and 3-log (99.9%) reduction of bacteria and protozoan cysts like Cryptosporidium. Proper hydraulics, engineering, and lamp sleeve cleaning are crucial to maximize pathogen exposure. UV treatment leaves no chemical residuals and avoids the need for potentially hazardous disinfectants. UV applications for air and surface disinfection While best known for its role in water treatment, UV technology through low pressure systems in particular has many other disinfection uses. One important application is in treating air and HVAC systems to reduce airborne pathogens. Low pressure UV lamps can be incorporated into ductwork, air handlers, and upper room fixtures to continuously disinfect re-circulated air. UV disinfection equipment is also utilized for disinfecting non-porous surfaces. Through the use of portable UV wands or whole room disinfection units, any surfaces exposed to sufficient UV-C doses will be decontaminated of viruses, bacteria, mold, and more. This process is growing in popularity for disinfecting healthcare facilities, laboratories, food processing sites, and other settings where controlling surface-based infections is critical. design notes: and so we had to go back to the Amphitheater to find out what can take place beneath it, and the first thing we have to do is get the access ramp out of the way
it's a long ramp that leads to the 1st of our sideway alleys, these sideway alleys are large people can gather there while they are directed to their seats
also they allow for an efficient circulation going in and out of the Amphitheater
the whole Amphi plane levels down to the theater in front, now the question we have to ask is do we have that as a full fledged floor underneath or less
high estimate, low, median, we want to be conservative, because after all we just need enough space for our water rooms, judging from my experience with Amphitheaters we should have that floor stretching to include the 3rd row from the ramp
and that is more than enough space for our water rooms, on both sides of the access ramp
right now we have no interest in communicating spaces, but perhaps we could put some equipment in that space for air purification for example
let's carve out that utilities booth, and simplify our shapes and we end up with the wet areas of our water rooms that we have to split between toilets and showers
we made the wet areas wide, with roomy toilets and showers in mind
and we still obtain a lot of interior space, it so happens that we also have to implement a row of sinks
there, with the toilets in dark grey, we need to do 2 things now, implement the sinks and cut out our entrances
we have our sinks and entrances now, on the sides, pragmatically because a section of the toilets row cannot be accessed it becomes booths for our UV purification equipment
I am starting to wonder is such capable air purification unit and UV blocks do not actually handle all of the Amphitheater, of course with separate ducts
fine so let's see the UV lights set up and also where our air purification vents are located, UV beams are right overhead of the toilets rows, and the air vents are right overhead of the sinks
the showers should be fine, lots of soap and shampoo goes there we said these are biodegrable products, still cleaning them is part of the crew's clean up routine
now why do we bother with so much air purification even using UV to kill bacteria and germs, basically because we are aboard a submarine and that air isn't going anywhere it needs to be recycled and that recycling needs to be top notch, ie we have to obtain clean sterile air as an output
last but not least these water rooms are enclosed using automatic sliding glass doors so they're contained, the total volume of air in each wing is exchanged every 45 seconds
these are mixed use there's no way around it given that the composition of the crew might be 70/30 between men and women, even at 60/40 still a mixed use given the limited capacity of each wing, combined we should be fine
in retrospect it is important that our water rooms are located in the Upperdeck, because as can and should welcome visitors onboard to use the Amphitheater we cannot either tell them that they cannot use the waters in one of our main decks, or allow them to go about the ship unaccompanied
Thank you for having followed
design notes continued: I guess the air input into the air cleaning system is looped back into the UV units, that makes a lot of sense…
