Theres this trend on tiktok about your ancestors watxhing you do stuff, like how some traditions have survived, them being proud or relieved at you having enough food and what not, and the most i can think of is

'We are still here'

I remember sitting around a fire during winter camp, telling stories, sharing food, playing music,

Or gathering with thousands other Utpmp volunteers in the middle of santiago to celebrate the work wed been doing and listen to what felt like ancestral music

Or just sitting to sunday lunch of like potatoes corn tomatoes fish and feeling like youre eating the same thing they did

Silly little things like that, but that make me wonder

Like you go to a nice spot by a lake where the water has worn the stones down, and wonder how many people have come during a warm day to freshen up

We go see abuelo alerce, one of the oldest trees in the world, and you look up to it and wonder what its seen, how many have picnic'ed under it

i can almost feel my native ancestors looking happy that were still around, that this isnt a spanish colony, or dutch or french or anything else.

That were still working together, still helping one another, still gathering to eat drink and enjoy life.

Still protecting nature, at least bits of it

That many traditions remains, that we might speak spanish and be catholic, but in our own way. We still use so many indigenous words, and so many ancient folk traditions survive under a coat of catholic paint

We remember those weve lost, we still put up little shrines, we remember the fights and we keep fighting, we keep telling the same stories

And i hope they look at us and still see bits of them. The hair, the cheekbones the build and so on.

We are still here, we weren't completely assimilated,

And we remember them.

Aunque nadie lo sepa, aunque a nadie le importe. Hoy, hace 5 años. Este día 7 de febrero, pero en 2014. Mi vida cambió rotundamente. Dejé un cargo en el periódico donde trabajé tanto tiempo. Dejé una vida y un yo diferente de lado. Y me convertí tal vez en lo más cercano que he podido estar de aquel que siempre pretendí ser. Renuncié al periódico un martes 4 de febrero. Fui la oficina de TECHO en Ciudad de México, aquel entonces aún Distrito Federal, era jueves 6 en la tarde y me dijeron Arthur mañana vamos a construir a Puebla, ve por tus cosas que tenemos hoy una fiesta y mañana salimos a las 4 de la mañana a San Miguel Canoa, Puebla, todo el Equipo Nacional. Ese fin de semana, conocí a las personas más increíbles, no sé si de toda la vida, no sé de qué tabtas vidas. Pero mi idea del voluntariado ese viaje lo cambió, mi idea del peridismo ese viaje lo cambió, mi idea de los viajes y del amor, ese dia, incluso cambió. Hice amigos increíbles con los que hacía planes y pasaba noche de música, conocí a una chica increíble que después fue mi novia, aquel Volcán me habló tan fuerte que fui a cambiar de ciudad de residencia, conocí despues a quién me llevaría a trabajar la primera vez como Maestro. So I've had a good day, and kinda just wanted to tell of it, because in reality this is one of those rare moments at which I'm just really, really proud of myself.

See, I'm volunteering for this NGO that aims to make us build houses for the extremely poor. So we need to collect the funds for the houses. Which leads to this one event we organized at a huge park in my city.

Basically, it was a sponsored walk. If you don't know, that basically consists in you going to people and asking them to sponsor you with, say, $2 per lap. And so in the end you got lots of money for every walk/runner.

I suffer from panic disorder, too. It's conditioned to when I run due to this one bad experience I had that connected with previous PTSD, and it's a bit complicated, and so I can't run too much without starting to lose breath and kind of feeling like I'm dying. It feels like going crazy.

But today, I walked 10 laps, 2 of which were probably running in total. I just calculated what the sponsors owed me, and alone I've collected nearly S/. 1000 (which is around 380 dollars) for the cause. That's almost a quarter of a house. No panic attacks, only aching legs and lots and lots of thirst.

I'm pretty sure this is what genuine happiness feels like.

Hoy oficialmente dejé mis responsabilidades en Techo y el equipo permanente después de casi 5 años de crecer junto con la institución en México. Muchísimos sentimientos encontrados, pero segura de que vendrán grandes momentos y los cambios siempre son para bien :). Por lo pronto mi regreso a la vida social :/ jajajaja...y a darle a la tesis! 

Aprendí demasiado y crecí bastante, pero en realidad sólo es un cambio de actividades para incidir de otra forma. ¡A vivir!
