I wish fantasy settings would show more dark magic healing.
Shadows bandaging wounds
Ice cold shade to cool down heatstroke and fever
Engulfing distressing mental imagery in darkness to calm a patient
Snuffing out the afterlife light so the soul won’t leave the body
#main character of Chiaroscuro (my original work) is a dark magic based healer#their specialty is blood magic and fleshsculpting#from their POV this works by seeing into a person's body and manipulating the tissues into shape and then stitching them there#utilizing their own magic/blood as essentially supernatural catgut suture#a big part of the story is them discovering they have the potential for a LOT of unsettling powers- including grabbing people by the soul-#and figuring out how to use them ethically#granted light magic healing in this is also weird#because I decided light magic is death-aligned and dark magic is life-aligned#so the latter is associated with viscera and mutation- relentless forces of change and growth#while the former is associated with sterility and radiation#surgery exists early in this setting because light mages have figured out how to use death auras to sanitize tools and materials#anyway OP is right this is a very exciting sandbox and I have already brought my plastic bucket#addition +#writing ideas#magic#otherwindow
