This entire sequence has SUCH Utena vibes. Watching a play that's propoganda fed to the public, where a complicated woman is blamed for all the world's problems and denounced as a witch while the prince is lionized, when in reality he's the one everyone really needs to watch out for? Utenacore.

Actually...when you thing about it...this entire comic is just the bodyswap ep of Utena. Waiting for a curry explosion.

I haven't really gotten into the Gender of it all before now, surprisingly, but there definitely is Madonna/whore thing going with how everyone views Psyche and Medea. Medea, (named after the ultimate villainized woman in Greek Myth, but interestingly, the only one who didn't get killed for her villainy) fits so easily into the trope of "heartless woman too ambitious for her own good out to topple the masculine power and destroy the appopriately passive, virtuous woman" that she seems to be scorned way more than even other members of her family and it's easy for the prince to manipulate the public against her. Meanwhile, of course, it's okay that he wants power, even if he oppresses and murders much more than Medea does.

And Psyche, meanwhile, is sanctified, because she's seen as helpless, sweet, beautiful, not a threat. But both women are much more complicated than that. Psyche has a lot of Medea in her, and Medea has a lot of Psyche and the body swap has highlighted it. Neither of them are purely good or evil, and they both are so much more than what people say. They need each other, to break out of the roles they've been assigned, to survive, and to find their true selves.
