How to Address an International Letter
Mailing international letters and packages requires a special format. It is important to understand how to write addresses properly for these items because it affects delivery and can lead to problems if the addresses are incorrect.
Tumblr media
Aside from the basic address, you will also need to add country information. This can help the post office send your mail to the correct location.
The first line of your address should contain the full name and street address of the person you are sending it to, along with their home or business phone number. You may also want to include a second phone number if you are writing to a couple or a group of people.
You will also need to write the city, state and zip code on line two of your address. For more information, check the United States Postal Service’s website on how to address your international mail.
It’s also helpful to include directional information like N, S, E, W, NE, NW, SE and SW. This will ensure your mail reaches its destination safely and efficiently.
When it comes to formatting the address, you should make sure that you are using a font that is easy to read and that does not smear or fade. Use black or blue ink and avoid cursive writing.
Once you have the address written correctly, affix your stamp and return address to the front of your item. The USPS recommends that you write a return address on all international mail items, as it can prevent them from getting lost in the mail system.

What Type of Stamps Do You Need to Send International Mail?
Forever stamps are a great way to mail international letters or packages. They work just like a first-class postage stamp. The value of a forever stamp is the same as a first-class postage stamp on the day it’s used, which means you don’t need to buy extra stamps or pay inflated postage prices for outbound international mail.
Tumblr media
How Many Forever Stamps Do You Need?
For domestic mail, a single first-class stamp covers the cost of a letter or envelope weighing 3.5 ounces or less. If your package weighs more than 3.5 ounces, you’ll need to buy additional stamps or use a flat-rate envelope.
How Much Does It Cost to Send International Mail?
The cost to send a standard letter or postcard internationally will depend on the destination country and how quickly you want it to arrive. We also offer Royal Mail Signed For and Special Delivery Guaranteed services, which offer faster, more secure deliveries with tracking, extra compensation and a signature on delivery.
What Can I Send in a Large Envelope?
USPS classifies envelopes ranging from 3.5 ounces to 5 ounces as “Flats,” and they only require first-class postage. Poly mailers, on the other hand, are considered three-dimensional and require Priority Mail or Express Mail to ship.
What Can I Send in Printed Labels?
When mailing internationally, it can be easy to forget about complicated customs forms. Endicia is a convenient tool that helps you save time by choosing the correct customs forms, pre-filling them and printing them in one integrated label* with your postage and electronic signature.

Collecting Precanceled Stamps
Precanceled Stamps
In addition to being a fun way to collect, United States precancel stamps are an excellent choice for any mailer looking to save money and reach more recipients. When used in combination with a digital meter, these precanceled stamps will make your mail look like first class but will only cost you a fraction of the cost of regular bulk rate postage.
Tumblr media
Getting Started with Precanceled Stamps
If you are sending direct mail, using precanceled stamps can help increase the number of recipients you receive by making your mail look more serious. However, before you can buy any precanceled stamps, you need to have a USPS Business Mail Permit. This permit is free and only takes a few minutes to fill out.
Identifying Precancels
As with many aspects of the hobby, identifying precancels can be complicated. The most important distinction collectors must make is whether or not the precancel was applied with a standardized device - a metal plate called an electroplate, or a rubber handstamp. This difference helps to distinguish Contracted Devices - precancels that were printed at a national headquarters - from Local Devices, those printed locally using devices purchased by local Post Offices from vendors.
Bureau prints
Bureau precancels are a broad category that includes those applied by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, D.C. These are the most common type of United States precancels. The most notable of these are the Bureau's two and three line formats that were produced in 1923.

How Can Informed Delivery Help Businesses Boost Their ROI?
Informed Delivery (ID) is a free service that lets eligible residential consumers digitally preview mail pieces before they arrive and manage packages scheduled to be delivered soon. The USPS created the program to keep consumers engaged with their mail and improve the value of postage.
Tumblr media
Using Informed Delivery in your marketing campaign can improve your ROI by improving the reach, engagement and conversion of your direct mail piece. It also allows you to track results and optimize your campaigns for future use.
* Increase Brand Recall - Each view of your Informed Delivery image adds to your overall brand recollection.
** Increase Consumer Response - The average Informed Delivery email opens at 82 percent. This shows that consumers are responding to brand messages before they get the physical mail piece later in the day.

Deliver Bonus Messages – Ride Along Images
You can submit a “ride-along” image, which is a custom image that USPS will attach to your mailer as an extra bonus. This is a great way to add extra content that can be shared on social media, extending your campaign’s reach and impact.
Another benefit of Informed Delivery is that you can segment and test ride along creative, which means your ride-along image can feature different messaging/offers to specific customer groups. These additional messaging opportunities can be used to promote your social media content, increase web-based traffic and even send customers directly to any web-based content you choose.
