I am not at all certain how to interpret this. The person looks more-or-less "first nations," and the flag of the Andean peoples is part of the design, but most of that group were long ago victims of genocide in Argentina. About 2 per cent of Mendoza's current population is indigenous, and the figure for the whole of Argentina is roughly the same. Does the street art refer to the dominant population, most of who have roots a few generations back in Spain and Italy? If so, what is the message? It is puzzling!

The actual day music died

He was born in 1909 and although he was a Moreira he no longer spoke Portuguese. The exact moment in which their parents or grandparents had quited falar and had begun hablar was lost between the mountainous crossroads of his Chile and his Argentina, between the high ravines of Cachapoal, Maipo, Mapocho and Aconcagua, but also of Colorado, Uspallata, Mendoza and San Juan.

When my great-grandfather was born, it was twenty-six years before Carlos Gardel died. When I was born, my great-grandfather had already died two years before. That means that on no afternoon in April or November we sat together looking at the flowering orange tree or the budding orange tree in the patio of Rodrigo de Araya's house (now it is a Líder) listening to Volver on his Telefunken radio and drinking mate, our mate.

The word pop did not yet exist while his plane fell and disintegrated in the mountains of Medellín. My great-grandfather was 26 years old and looked at the horizon lit on fire in Mendoza (Mendoza in Basque means cold mountain, but that afternoon the horizon was lit on fire). When Carlos Gardel died, the heart of the world exploded and many other things died, that since then no longer have a name. Amongst them is a piece of road through the mountains, where my great-grandfather broke his ankle; the smell of the orange tree while it sleeps waiting for September to arrive; and the chord that is formed when the E string of the mandolin loses its swallow-like tension. That is the actual day music died.

In particular, the local citizens do not want a proposed mine expansion and the diversion and possible contamination of water it will entail.

❗Por esta razón, se generaron complicaciones en el tránsito de los vehículos en la Ruta internacional 7 a la altura de la Curva de Guido.
