In lieu of me not having the opportunity to post yesterday, take a look at this article about the stand other scientists are taking on the March for Science. I am part of the group who is passionate and outspoken about science having a bigger presence in public life. However, there is another group of scientists who do not believe it is appropriate to be outspoken, but to work hard and try and make a difference in more private ways. I want to say how much I understand this and, honestly, respect it. Not all people respond to impassioned displays of grandeur, especially when they could be viewed through a political lens. This will be the first march of any kind I will be partaking in because that is how I feel personally about many issues in terms of how I will contribute. Just practice my own mantras and do right by myself, hopefully I can make an impact more quietly. But I can't be quiet, and it is not due to feelings of anger toward political figures or parties. This is the first ever March for Science. The most forward thinking, progressive, scientifically minded person in the world could sit in the White House and I would still march. This isn't about sticking it to any man. It's about showing the world that science is valuable, vital, and loved by hundreds of thousands. I march in hope of bringing awareness to issues the community faces (which, of course, cannot be taken at face value as the scientific community is so vast and diverse), but also in celebration. I celebrate science, all who are involved in it, and all it's accomplishments.

I’ve been trying to extract peanut proteins for allergen testing, and I finally got something! It’s not ara h 1, which produces 100% allergenicity… but I’ll take it for now. Ara h 4 is a smaller protein, at ~35-36 kDa. Ara h 1 is ~63-68 kDa. I wonder if I can start with this. Just gotta confirm with an immunoblot
