IT’S TOSHI'S BIRTHDAY!!! >__< gonna talk about both of these. he picks a trail near your house that he's jogged dozens of times before. he makes sure you have water and sunscreen and doesn't at all mind when you ask to be carried. he'll check if you’re comfortable and tells you to watch out for branches…. slows/lets you down when you want to take photos of some flowers or a squirrel…

when you ask if he’s doing alright he tells you he’s fine and not to worry ;; you make him promise to tell you if he gets tired so you can take a break together. he could say he doesn't think he'll need to, but instead he smiles softly and says okay anyway.

! imagine his surprise when there's something set up already for his birthday up there. he's not somebody who's easily caught off guard, so you can't help but feel accomplished when he turns to you with widened eyes.

"surprise!"

wakatoshi blinks, mind still processing. but then he tilts his head, half amused, half genuinely curious. "did you really need me to carry you up the rest of the way?"

"i mean, i was tired. but also i had to sell the act, didn't i?" you smile. "are you mad?"

he lets out a breathy laugh, more a puff of air than anything, before coming closer. "no, i'd be glad to carry you up again if you wanted to come back."

"really? would you carry me down after we're done?"

his initial response isn't a yes or no. instead, he decides to pick you up where you're standing, getting you to wrap your arms around his neck in surprise. the gravel shifts under his feet as he turns to bring you to your set up—a blanket very carefully laid and held down on the corners, with gifts you had bought weeks ago ready to open. "ask me afterward."

also i looked up polish dishes last night while thinking abt this and got hungry. why'd i do that at 1am w nothing but cookies on me... BUT THE IDEA IS SOO CUTE omg he looks up some popular places and reads a Lot of reviews beforehand.. the workers are happy to recommend some popular dishes and think your idea is really nice lolol ^^

soft toshi... holding your fork up to feed him and him doing the same for you while chewing... so cute. cute guy. him furrowing his brows as he tries to discern what’s in the dish and throwing ideas back and forth with you… him softly chuckling when you scrunch up your face because you didn’t like the taste of something. he instinctively reaches to move the plate away and slides your glass closer instead. he asks “didn’t like that one?” as if you aren’t already gulping your water down

and he’s genuinely curious about the ingredients while the workers explain afterward !! he listens especially close when they describe the ones you really enjoyed. like he’s not leaving without making a mental list of which dishes were your favourites.

but also i think it would be so cute if there wasn’t a set plan. like the both of you happen to walk past a cozy looking place and you grab his hand to go in. and even if the food doesn't end up spectacular or anything, the fact that this is the first spot you visit together makes it a special place. depending on how good it is, it could either be a cute date spot every couple of months or a regular spot. picking up some drinks and treats to surprise you for dinner kind of thing ;;

his birthday... the idea that you guys become regulars. you go in and mention it's his birthday soon and ask if they have a good desert idea, or if they could do something special. and yeah of course they'll whip something up for this ?? famous volleyball player who just happens to like their local shop ?? who's a little scary but polite and endearingly obviously (in a relative sense) in love with you.

and i'm not saying the place would see a bunch of new customers because ushijima, a guy notorious for the lack of personal posts on his social media, posted about them and you after receiving a special birthday dinner,, but i'm not denying that idea either (ゝω･)

tangent but i rlly do love the idea of u telling toshi to pose for a picture on the hike or putting a flower in his hair for it .. or him with a little party hat on lololol

Haikyuu!! s3ep7 ramblings

Alright so I just finished this episode yesterday and there is way too much for me to ramble about in multiple posts so I’m gonna accumulate a whole bunch of stuff here. Prepare yourself. (Also: I basically stole a page right out of @earais‘s book for this. If you want megaposts that are actually insightful, check theirs out! They’re dope as hell.)

Alright folks buckle up for my slow descent into hell

(PSA: caps are vaguely in order. The order I saved them in got hecked up.)

First off: MY BOY SUGA GETS TO SHINE AND I AM ALWAYS ABOUT THAT SHIT (also Ukai is beautiful and I will never be over it and I love him to death.) Now how does our most refreshing boy handle the news?

At first, not great. Who can blame him, though? 

Sidenote: I love how they blacked out the corners of this frame. It kind of makes it seem like Suga is zoning out a little bit, like he can’t entirely get his eyes to focus. The little details in this show can really add a lot (even for a relatively unobservant person like me)!

And then…

The Shookening™. On a slightly more serious note, Shimizu seems super perceptive and I don’t think we appreciate that enough. She always knows just what her merry brood of morons needs. Hella good manager? Hella good manager.

I gotta give a shoutout to Statler and Waldorf Oikawa and Iwaizumi because I really enjoy having them still around. But Oikawa…you’ve played this guy at least twice. You know he can get shit done. Don’t underestimate Mr. Refreshing. You gave him that name for a reason, after all. 

Okay, now it’s really gametime. Can I just say how much I love how all the teams support each other? (Also Goshiki is now my son. What he might lack in skill and discipline, he more than makes up for in enthusiasm and that basically made me bust out the adoption papers.)

So then we get some intense back-and-forth going on, which leads to a truly golden moment:

The Wreckening™. Suga gets some well-earned snark in to boot! (Snarky Suga is a gift tbh and I wish we got more of it.) Buuuuut then the moment got killed with

(tbh I love how every team gets some kind of character-establishing flashback. They may not be on screen for long, but they make the most of it!)

I’m including these caps because I have deadass done this very thing.

But now we get a Flashback Within A Flashback!

Ah, it’s an Ushijima flashback! …Wait what the /fuck/ what’s wrong with being a lefty? That ain’t right.

Awww, he was such a cute little kid! What happened? But seriously, mama’s side of the family looked at this kid and said “yes this child is broken and must be fixed right now immediately” I mean that’s kinda fucked up for Haikyuu

God bless this Good Dad™. (Seriously, there are so few good fathers in anime. It’s so nice to actually see one.) (Also if the woman on the right is Ushijima’s mom, I think we know why they got divorced. Differences in opinion on whether your child is defective seem like pretty reasonable grounds for it.)

Now, back to the slightly more recent past:

Behold; the line that made me hurt against my will

So a previous scene established that Dear ol Dad is overseas somewhere doing…something. But seriously, how long has he been gone? Could he honest to god never get back to see his kid play? Ushijima’s Dad, come on. Come back and be the Good Dad you were meant to be. Be proud of your son; you’d be so impressed with him. Hug your child. And then get him to be less of a dick while you’re at it.

BACK TO THE DISTANT PAST

We get a cute scene with baby Ushijima and his dad passing the ball back and forth, and then this other scene that made me hurt against my will.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: this scene + the fade-to-white at the end makes it seem like Ushijima’s dad is straight-up dead. (…Yo what if he did die overseas and never got to watch his kid become a star would that be fucked up or what)

AND NOW WE GET BACK TO THE PRESENT (where hopefully things hurt less.

ha ha.

The reaction to the overruling is the most realistic thing I’ve ever seen oh my god it hurt. The only thing that would make it better would be everyone cursing out the referee. 

But on the bright side, my son Tsukishima gets to be a badass again!

Look at that sassy motherfucker. Look how beautiful he is. I’m so proud of him you don’t even understand.

(Tbh I got spoiled for this ages ago; I completely forgot which episode it was until I saw it though. And it still hurt.)

..My boy went from just doing the bare minimum to risking getting seriously injured for his team and I could not be more proud.

BUT I’M NOT PLEASED WITH THIS DEVELOPMENT

Side note: how much fucking force must he have been hit with good god!!! And in such a painful part to get hurt, too! That’s just…not okay. I was hurting a little in sympathy, it was that bad.

Also everyone’s reactions when they realized he was hurt was super realistic too! Like, even in college basketball games, if someone is actually hurt, both sides just…stop. It’s eerie and they captured that really well.
