A/N: Inspired by the amazing @bane-light‘s gifset because I am over the moon about the new malec trailer and their whole new level of love. Plus Maia and Alec being friends

“Come on, tell me,” Maia said as she refilled the ice machine behind her. The night was winding down now and Alec knew she was just looking to fill the silence, even if it was at his own expense.

“Why do you need to know?”

“Because I could help you out. Do you know how many single guys come by this place? Plenty enough for you to take your pick if I know what to look for.” She took up a cloth and started wiping the counter in front of him, a counter that really didn’t need another run over with how it already reflected Alec’s tired face back.

“I don’t have a type.”

“I’ll bet you have a few things though. Here, I’ll give you a sangria and then you just nod if you agree.”

“You have to be bored to be giving me drinks. Don’t let Isabelle know when you go home,” Alec said, handing back his empty glass despite his protests. He had nothing better to do anyway and maybe Maia would happen to have some pointers.

“Like I’d be talking about you when I have her instead. I think she’ll hear about it from you sooner or later anyway.” Maia set to work and slid the drink across to him in less than a minute. “Okay, let’s start.”

Taking a sip, Alec wondered if he could just deny everything and get through the questioning without giving anything away.

“Blonde?” He shook his head reflexively before he could stop himself.

“Dark hair, then. How about build… Thin?”

Another shake of his head and he found himself pausing while he thought about it. Maia stared over his shoulder as though in thought, absently cleaning glasses.

“Brown eyes alright with you?”

“You make it sound like these are menu options,” Alec muttered, but nodded nonetheless.

“Look, this is a bar. You order off the menu and take what they have. It’s hard to switch off that mindset sometimes. Let’s settle for ‘romantic eyes’ and leave it at that.”

“Romantic eyes? How do you even quantify that?”

“Trust me, I think that’s a good feature.”

Rolling his eyes, Alec went back to working on emptying his glass. Maia just smirked when she saw his expression and went back to her probing as she surveyed the rest of the tables.

“Looks a little dangerous?”

Alec stopped nursing his drink and looked at her, puzzled.

“That sounds awfully specific.”

“Just answer the question.”

“A little dangerous? Depends on what kind of ‘dangerous’ you mean.”

“Take a look for yourself.” Maia motioned behind him with a slight nod and walked away to clear off a corner booth, leaving Alec to figure out her intention himself.

He glanced over his shoulder, following Maia’s line of sight until he spotted the only person she could possibly have been describing.

The man’s dark hair was backlit by the lamps hanging from the wall, his entire outline brushed with gold. He caught Alec’s look and smiled, the sight of it warming Alec’s stomach far more than the sangria had. Despite the amicable gesture, Alec finally understood what Maia had meant. The man’s broad shoulders and the posture that seemed cloaked with a quiet confidence served to warn against trying anything unsavory. His coat would have been perfect for slipping around alley corners or over the chassis of a motorcycle. 

The sound of glass against wood brought his thoughts back to where he was sitting and he turned to Maia just as she added an olive to the martini she’d set in front of him.

“Not for you. Now go away.”

“Thanks.” Alec picked up the martini and his sangria and started towards the man’s table.

“Hi, I’m Alec.”

Storge: The couple in such a relationship becomes best friends. Storge love is unconditional, accepts flaws or faults and ultimately drives you to forgive. It’s committed, sacrificial and makes you feel secure, comfortable and safe.

Eros: A passionate and intense love that arouses romantic feelings; it is the kind that often triggers “high” feelings in a new relationship and makes you say, “I love him/her”. It is simply an emotional and sexual love.

Now that Shadowhunters is back (yay!), I just wanted to remind anyone interested that I’m tracking #userlilia for all shadowhunters and malec related content.
