On the run:

The couple needs to rely on their skills and resourcefulness to survive. Ben’s knowledge of the First Order’s operations and Kaden’s mechanical skills would be crucial.They constantly are on the lookout for safe places to hide, avoiding First Order remnants and potential bounty hunters.

They seek out allies within the Resistance and among independent smugglers, mercenaries, and other defectors who could provide assistance and safe passage. Ben needs to earn the trust of these new allies, as many are wary of his past as Kylo Ren.

Ben needs to consistently prove his commitment to change in the start, shown through his actions that he is dedicated to a better path. Kaden and Ben support each other emotionally, maintaining open communication and understanding each other’s fears and hopes.

Both benefit from counseling, seeking out Force-sensitive mentors and healers who can help Ben deal with his dark side past and help Kaden process their trauma. The journey is one of mutual forgiveness and growth, as they both come to terms with their past and work towards a future together.

The First Order is relentless in their pursuit, considering Ben a high-value target due to his knowledge and previous position, they would face numerous skirmishes and narrow escapes, requiring them to stay vigilant and adaptable.

Ben occasionally struggles with the remnants of his dark side tendencies, requiring Kaden’s support to stay on the right path. There are moments of tension and mistrust, particularly when they face extreme danger, but their bond strengthens as they overcome these challenges together.

Eventually, they work towards building lives, finding ways to contribute positively to the galaxy, through helping other defectors and aiding the Resistance in non-combat roles. Ben explores his connection to the light side of the Force, seeking to use his abilities for good and atone for his past actions. <3

Over time, they attempt to reconnect with Linara and Torin, hoping to rebuild family bonds and gain their acceptance and forgiveness. Their journey symbolizes a new beginning, not only for Ben and Kaden but also potentially for others inspired by their story of redemption and love.~

(The following article is a bit spoilery, but I've been working on this stupid concept for years and I just want to post it already. Still not happy with the design, but I can tweak it some more in the future. Since Ojio is a sci-fi geek, I wanted to give his invention a hokey retro futurist/anime flair.)

CHROMIGHT MECHASKEMA

OVERVIEW

The ChroMight Mechaskema(™) is a device invented by Ojio Paramonimos, founder of Chromight Technologies. It is a robotic body-augmentation that is custom tailored to its user. The mechanical framework permanently interfaces with the user’s nerves and organs, enhancing all bodily functions. Mr. Paramonimos himself describes it as “a mechanical shell”.

Once connected with the Mechaskema(™), users experience increased strength and speed, enhanced senses, and various other abilities which can be customized with modules, such as flight and water-breathing.

The Mechaskema(™) draws power from the user’s own energy reserves, meaning the user must eat more calories to accommodate extra power draw. Additional modules will draw even more power, and at a certain point it becomes impossible for the user to keep the device powered on calories alone. In these cases, additional power sources such as petrol, arcane crystals, or batteries must be used.

BENEFITS

Mechaskema(™) users (also known as “chromen” or “chromies”) enjoy a wide range of benefits from their mechanical parts. The device efficiently recycles calories into energy, eliminating the need to defecate altogether. Its blood purification system can filter disease and improve healing speeds, and may even allow the user to eat toxic materials with little to no harm.

The device can also slow the body’s aging process, but how much depends on which modules are used. This enables short-lived species such as trolls and minotaurs to enjoy longer lifespans. The device can also compensate for missing limbs and failing organs, effectively acting as a life-support system for sick users and allowing them to function normally.

In addition, the devices allow users to bypass the need for sleep using supplemental energy sources, giving them more waking hours for productivity or recreation.

Mechaskemas(™) are available in 2 models: basic and ultra.

The basic model offers many benefits and customization options, but is less powerful than the ultra model and cannot support as many modules. Its design is less invasive, leaving more of the user's flesh exposed and bodily functions unaltered. It may interact with some organs and other body parts, but not all of them.

The ultra model offers maximum benefits to the user and many slots for modules, but its heavy power draw can prove burdensome and even dangerous to the user if not managed properly. This model requires a supplemental power source to function, such as a battery. It is highly invasive, as it interacts with every part of the user's body.

SIDE EFFECTS

Mechaskemas(™) are a permanent body augmentation. Because they interface so heavily with the user’s biology, removing them is a fatal process. This also means that the user is at the mercy of the device’s core mechanisms, and should any of these mechanisms fail, the user may die or suffer severe biological damage. Broken mechanisms must be fixed or replaced promptly, but they are expensive, and this can only be done by skilled technicians.

Not everyone is a good candidate for a Mechaskema(™). The ideal user is a biologically mature adult, financially upper class, and technologically savvy. They should never plan to travel far from a ChroMight Technologies repair center, in case of a critical mechanism failure. The devices utilize several materials that are forbidden by the Nymph Pact, meaning chromen will struggle to survive in Great Kingdoms where the pact is in effect, and may be banned from those territories altogether.

Mechaskemas(™) depend entirely on a power source. Calories, arcane energy, solar, petrol, or electricity are all options depending on the user’s model, but when these sources are not available, the device will begin consuming the user’s body. Allowing the device to run out of power leads to serious consequences, such as permanent bodily damage and even death.

In addition to food, the devices also require water to function properly. More advanced models require more water, which they utilize for cooling and other systems. Becoming dehydrated causes the device to malfunction and will lead to the user’s death if it is not corrected promptly.

Chromen experience increased hunger and thirst as a result of their mechanically-augmented bodies. Using supplemental power sources and water-management modules can mitigate these side effects.

The Mechaskemas(™) are mechanical devices, and as such they require maintenance. Regular oiling, polishing, and tune-ups will keep them functioning optimally, but failing to take care of these machines will lead to poor performance and possibly death to the user.

Over time, users will become more and more dependent on their devices to survive as their bodies begin to atrophy. Older users experience a phenomenon known as “module creep”, where they require more modules to keep themselves alive as time goes on.

Mechaskemas(™) are not free, nor are their power sources, replacement parts, modules, or maintenance. In fact these things are all quite expensive, so choosing to become a chroman is not a decision to be taken lightly. At a certain point, a chroman’s survival becomes entirely dependant on how much money they have for repairs.

MODULES

Each new Mechaskema(™) comes equipped with a set of standard features, depending on whether it’s a basic or ultra model. If users want more features, they must purchase modules. Modules are extra parts that attach to the device and enable more features. Each module draws additional power, and more sophisticated modules draw even more.

Some smaller modules can be added and removed without consequence. Others are more invasive and cannot be removed without killing the user.

Modules can perform a virtually endless number of functions. Each one falls under a broad category, and these categories include: Health, Utility, Defense, Energy, and Miscellaneous.

The following is a list of popular modules from each category:

HEALTH: Blood detoxifier, pacemaker, aging deceleration, synthetic womb, pain blocker

UTILITY: Enhanced strength, optical zoom lens, speed boosters, lights, artificial gills, wings, jetpack

DEFENSE: Armor plates, blades, guns, spikes, spell magnifier

ENERGY: Water tanks, fuel tanks, water vaporizer, fuel burner, solar panels, battery slots

MISCELLANEOUS: Radio, calculator, voice modulator, sexual enhancers, cosmetic modifications

CULTURE

Mechaskemas(™) are a novel technology in the world of Looming Gaia, and public opinion on them varies wildly. Some staunchly disapprove, viewing them as an insult to nature, and believe they will lead to allkind’s demise. Others support the technology, believing it can change many lives for the better.

Currently the devices are only available in Zareen Empire, but ChroMight CEO Ojio Paramonimos wishes to expand this technology to foreign lands in the future. Critics argue that chromen become entirely dependant on the company’s technology, and must keep surrendering more and more money to ChroMight Technologies as they become more dependent on their devices. Because of this, the company faces frequent protests and media scrutiny.

However, many corporations and even world militaries are very interested in Paramonimos’ creation, and have invested in his research in hopes that they can benefit from this novel tech in the future.

Mr. Paramonimos is under immense political, ethical, and financial pressure from all sides, and while his invention could possibly lead to disaster, he claims his only intention is to create a better future for allkind. He believes the marriage of flesh and machine will open the door to a safer, cleaner, and smarter tomorrow.

No artist needs to "go to bat" for AI.

It's got all the support it needs from corporations and governments who've invested millions in a technology they believe will all but eliminate their need to waste money on human workers.

For some, that sounds like there could be a stable future in it, or new opportunities could be right around the corner. If Capitalism has taught us anything it should be that the person operating the machine that put 30 people out of work isn't paid well for long.

In my heart of hearts, all I see is another angle in this new golden age of scams.

The notion of AI was made for the benefit of artists and workers is an egg that developers lay in the brains of people who struggle to engage with creative work or people looking to capitalize as early adopters. They may dangle attractive rates or hype up the experience and cred you'll get from being a part of AI-centric projects but they will do to AI artists what they've done to everyone else and I assure you the laws we have now will allow them to fuck you over harder and faster than those who came before. Studio executives are fighting tooth and nail for the right to abuse writers, artists, crew, technicians, and actors that have made them billions of dollars in extremely profitable properties. Do we sincerely believe they'll dole out fat checks to someone they see sitting at a keyboard, asking the machine to make pictures? Do we really believe we'll own anything we prompted the machine to make for them? That would be uncharacteristically generous of them to put it kindly.

The AI systems they've built or claim to be building have tricked people into thinking it's an exciting new creative medium. The profit for AI is in that excitement, not the products AI generates. People are excited to play with it and businesses are excited to exploit it. Its successes so far have been driven by novelty, naivety, and greed. The very concept is a model of predation, exploiting the good faith of artists, writers, and creators online to feed their mimic of human labor.

It's in a business' interest to legitimize their use of AI so they invest in stoking the hype and bolstering its defense to cover up for the fact that it's meant to cut costs on human staff. Investors and developers take to forums and social media to prime their user base with talking points and paint the people threatened by the proliferation of AI as jealous, elitist, snobs. Everyone inside the wire is looking for a slice of the profits and everyone outside gets a steady diet of astroturf. Early adopters and aspiring influencers get to feel like they're catching a big wave with minimal personal investment. Those users get a few easy treats right away because the output really can be impressive and the controversy bakes-in opportunities for engagement, heightened visibility, and monetization. You can potentially make money by arguing with strangers online over the pictures you asked a program to make, but that potential has a pretty short lifespan as the field becomes saturated with people who are acceptably good at using the software.

The people who will reap the lion's share of AI's profits need users to believe they're on the side of the geniuses who are looking to the future and breaking down walls that the Art World built to keep regular people from eating its lunch. They do this because gaining users isn't enough, they need allies who become personally, emotionally, financially invested enough to carry their shields when the people whose livelihoods are threatened by AI demand protection.

THIS is the scam of AI. The people who are actually getting extremely rich off AI aren't prompt writers, users, artists, writers, creative professionals. They're idea men and parasitic startup ghouls who just need numbers and hype to show investors that their property, built entirely from the stolen reprocessed labor of hundreds of millions of uncredited, uncompensated people is hot enough to throw money at. They need people willing to work AI jobs so businesses feel confident enough adopt the technology. They need their competition to be seen as greedy, privileged, and outdated. The scam-crux of it all is that the people profiting the most from AI don't actually need it to be good or successful to get theirs. They relied on student researchers for labor, developed the technology on government grants and investor funding, trained the programs on resources they fucking stole, and when they were done, they were free to sell their product to all comers, collect licensing fees, and pretend that they aren't responsible for any of the highly predictable ways their product can be abused. How much of the operating cost is paying lobbyists to make sure the magic money lever isn't slapped out of their hands by regulation for a long as possible?

Even if their vibe-based cash train careens off the novelty cliff or slams into a wall of regulation (and fuck do I ever hope it does) these people have already feathered their nests. It doesn't matter if AI-generated copy makes people feel like they're going insane. It doesn't matter if AI art is off-putting and wonky, if the programs make products and services demonstrably less useful or effective, and make customer service a living nightmare. It doesn't matter if the programs starve when they can't consume protected data and poison themselves by consuming their own output. Some developers will be able to coast financially for the rest of their lives because they invented a way for the rich and powerful to spend their money on the smallest possible number of people.

It's an experiment that became a toy that can make a handful of people obscenely wealthy through exploitation, theft, and disenfranchisement. It's a system that says "Pay me now for this thing that might make you money later and if it doesn't you can address all complaints to the empty bag I left you holding."

Our security as creators, artists, writers, and workers is won by taking a bat to this kind of shit, not going to bat for it.

yo matt, saw your post with the apple pen, have you got it sorted?

i worked for apple support last year so hopefully this helps :))

1. restart your ipad and then try pair again (you'd be surprised how much this works)

2. if your ipad as a magnetic strip on the side to charge the pen, make sure its centred properly sometimes that works

3. go to setting>bluetooth>my devices>

click on the apple pencil > forget the device, then pair it again

4. sometimes, the nib is loose, tightening it as much as you can. apple has had a lot of users report to us that the nibble doesn't work when not screwed I correctly (it's happened to me once or twice, too)

5. ye just replace the tip. If it still has issues, then there might be something wrong with the hardware (the binks and bonks inside the pen)

6. you can contact apple directly in *get support* on their website or in settings

7. ik it's tedious, but do bring it to the nearest apple store. the technicians can test your kit out at the genius bar

These abilities act differently than normal copy abilities in general, as they adapt to the user’s capabilities! This includes for people who already have a copy ability attuned to them - if the user is attuned to a copy ability, using one will overrun it. It tends to be that the Contact Ability will take whatever normal Copy Ability was attuned in consideration as they adapt to the user (this means that yes, fusions exist for all Contact Abilities, but only with normal Copy Abilities, not other Contact Abilities or Super Abilities). Attuning to one of these three abilities will grant you a free slot (one puffball can only attune to two copy abilities, so using a Contact Ability will not affect the slot placement).

These abilities have different specialties and different gimmicks. No matter how different one’s moveset is, if the Contact Ability used is the same they will all have generally the same theme.
