how much of the truck do you think Rhett has replaced over the years? (maybe the better question is what hasnt been replaced at this point) like do you think hes completely rebuilt the transmission and engine? is there a point that he will give up on it? or do you think hes the person that will say that as long as the seat is the same one its the same truck? cuz it isnt going to last forever because that truck is how old and its also been a farm truck all its life. regardless of what state we are all living in now its safe to say that the Wyoming winters have taken a toll on the truck in the form of rust and wear and tear. if he rusts through the frame (a death sentence for vehicles) will he buy the same make in model that has had an easier life and just take his transmission and engine (he just put those in less than 80,000 miles ago god danmit!!) out and put it into the one with the good frame. i think if he ever does throw the towel in on the truck hes going to keep the seat and put it in his room in the house because theres too many memories on that seat for the thruple

I am so happy that someone is asking me about the trucks because I have put so much unnecessary thought and work into them. But Rhett's truck... Jesus Christ, it is the bane of my existence. I cannot figure out what year it is, and it's been driving me up the wall, but I'll admit I've been using this sale listing as a reference.

I'm in trouble if this truck ever sells.

That old truck has close to 225,000 miles on it at this point; it's practically gone everywhere, and for some damn reason, it's still alive and kicking. Had about 100,000 miles when Rhett bought it, and he's driven it to all hell ever since.

He's replaced the front and rear wheel hubs three times now. Had to put in new ball joints, and rust essentially forced him to replace the transmission, fuel, and brake lines after a couple of years. Shortly after that, the transmission failed and forced Rhett to gather a few buddies to help him rebuild it. But it's been a lot of small fixes here and there, the forgettable things that take an afternoon, and that's it.

The old truck was built to last, and even though nobody is 100% sure where it spent its early years, it's been well taken care of. If there's an odd noise or it starts to act out of character, the problem is located and found within the week. It's always best to fix the issue when its small, rather than wait until it gets worse.

Trucks last on the Abbott ranch. Royal's vehicle is older than Rhett's, and it's still alive and kicking! I haven't done a ton of research into what Royal drives, but I think it's an '80s GMC C/K Sierra Classic.

Unless it becomes a money pit that can't stand to run for more than a few hours at a time, then Rhett's going to be hanging onto it. He could replace the whole vehicle over the course of time and still believe it's the exact same truck. But if it does fail, he'd likely go with another older-model truck with a bench seat. Maybe not the same make and model, but he'd be happy to bring home another in a different color.

As of the "current time" in the story, the Sierra is living herself a nice little life in the garage. Her Pavement Princess era, if you want me to start sounding cripplingly Gen-Z. Rhett's new work requires a lot of trailer pulling and things that the Sierra just couldn't keep up with, which means a new truck!

In Whispers In The Dark, I vaguely hinted that Rhett left the Sierra in Wyoming for a period of time because he'd bought a new truck after moving out.

This was the truck!

A 2019 Ford F-350 that I picked out back in February and simply never mentioned to anyone 😭 it never made sense to mention the exact make and model, so it got reduced to "Rhett's other truck."

After the Sierra comes home, she gets to become the official date night vehicle, alongside Bob's. It's her only job now!

I haven't mentioned a ton about Bob's truck, but since we're already on the topic, he's got a 2021 Toyota Tundra in the color Midnight Black Metallic. I exclusively picked this truck for him because some models come with a front-row bench seat.

2004 was a notable year for television viewers. “Friends” wrapped up its 10-year run; Ken Jennings had his first winning streak on “Jeopardy!”; Illinois senator Barack Obama made a splash with a keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention; new series “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives” became obsessions. And the news was constantly filled with stories from the Iraq war.

Then, on Oct. 30, a network known as the Gospel Music Channel was born. “I remember thinking ‘Wow, it’s the perfect time to have something positive and uplifting and there was probably nothing more hopeful than gospel music,” says Charles “Charley” Humbard, the founder and CEO of UP Entertainment.

Humbard is aware that a faith-based music channel might not have been the obvious choice for a new network, but he saw indicators that told him they were on the right path. “The landscape was really good at the time,” he says.

“‘The Passion of the Christ’ had come out and really opened eyes to this audience that are more faith-oriented in entertainment. Also, gospel music was as big in sales as country music, so we had some really interesting things working for us.”

So when the network launched, its music-heavy programming slate featured Christian music award shows, music video blocks as well as concerts, singing competitions and artist biographies.

After five years, Humbard noticed they were doing something right when compared to other new networks. “At the same time, the NFL Network launched, and we outgrew the NFL Network. That was something I always looked at as a pacer because I know how popular that was,” he says. With the network in 70 million homes, it also signaled that it was time to start broadening their scope beyond gospel music — and in 2010, they rebranded as GMC.

Under the new name, the network began making its own faith-based films as well as acquiring inspiring broadcast series like “Highway to Heaven” and “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,” but staying on brand wasn’t always easy.

“There’s a lot of temptation to go out and buy certain shows that we know might rate better, but we put them up against the measuring stick of, ‘Is that what our audience expects?’” he says. “It may not grow our audience as fast, but it’s the right thing to do to grow trust with your audience. For us, that is essential.”

However, the network met an unexpected obstacle given the importance of an online presence. The GMC name came with a large problem. “There was also this little truck company in Detroit that wouldn’t give up: GMC.com,” Humbard says with a laugh about the popularity of General Motors Company’s vehicles in America. “So, we got back to work not long after that to come up with what would be the right name for us.”

Inspiration came to Humbard during a family trip to Cape Canaveral, Fla., where conversations about the many space launches shooting into the sky sparked an idea.

“We had always been about uplifting entertainment so why not just be ‘UP?’” he recalls. “The name really worked for us, and it drives home what our brands represent in the market.” On June 1, 2013, GMC became UPtv, as it’s still known today.

Currently, the network airs a mix of acquired family dramas like “Heartland” as well as continuing to air broadcast sitcoms like “Last Man Standing” and procedurals like “Blue Bloods,” which ensure their schedule isn’t stuck in the past.

“Most of our acquisitions are newer and not 50-year-old shows like some of the other networks that are out there doing family programming for people over 70,” he says. “‘Last Man Standing’ has a lot of current issues that they deal with, but we think that’s good. ‘Heartland’ has modern day issues, too. Our audience expects that we tell stories about people who are broken, and I think it’s important to tell those stories.”

An original movie slate with mysteries and romantic comedies are also a big part of today’s business with an eye on giving some of them a longer life. “Positive and uplifting movies are a staple for us, but we’re also looking at opportunities now to really develop movies into series,” Humbard says.

Currently, the network is gearing up for a robust holiday slate.

“We’re doing over 500 hours of programming again this year and we’ll have 12 movies premiere, too,” he says. In addition to their new films, with stars like Vivica A. Fox and William Baldwin, music is still a part of the mix with the special “Gaither Vocal Band: New Star Shining” set to air on Christmas Eve. Also, the “Most Uplifting Christmas Ever” sweepstakes returns for a third year with one lucky winner taking home a $10,000 cash prize with another $10,000 going to the charity of their choice.

Always looking for a way to extend its reach, the brand has not only partnered with existing network Ovation and its free ad supported video on demand channel, Journy, UPtv has also branched out into the streaming world. UP Faith and Family features acquired drama series like “Hudson & Rex” and “The Chosen,” while aspireTV and aspireTV+ offer programming for Black viewers, and GaitherTV+ brings country, bluegrass and gospel music to audiences.

“We still service our cable operate partners, but the real growth area of our business is now learning how to sell directly to consumer,” Humbard says. “We’ve become a subscription company, which is a very different business than it was.”

This year, their tried-and-true brand message is out in the world as the network is launching National UPlift Someone Day on the Oct. 30 anniversary date. “If there’s anything that America needs right now, it’s this day,” Humbard says of the event, which will be held annually. “This is a movement to really reach out into the communities and our employees on our anniversary day. We’ll be putting together care kits for the unhoused and we also have a national partner, Feeding America, which has a way for local communities to get involved.”

It’s that commitment to community that has helped keep UPtv consistently on the same path it embarked upon 20 years ago. With a current total distribution of 42.8 million households, UPtv has been able to keep up with the times, but Humbard knows the best barometer for success is easily found by looking to the audience.

“Our audience has told us what they want to watch and we’re going to give it to them, so we remain uplifting, and I think really true to, after 20 years, where we began.”

And while Humbard admits to keeping an eye on the competition, he isn’t losing sleep over what similar networks like Hallmark are doing when planning UPtv’s future.

“We believe that quality entertainment with uplifting stories will have a positive impact on people’s hearts and change our world,” he says. “We feel like we’re the leaders — and we keep trying to look out the front window, not the rear view.”

Meet the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ

Cadillac spent some time in New York to show off the next Escalade. The name is familiar, but this is an Escalade unlike any that have come before.

As expected and teased, the new ESCALADE will sport an ‘IQ’ suffix (as well as the same stuck caps-lock key Cadillac uses on all their electrics and we use here to help differentiate) to denote its electric powertrain and tie it in with other electrics we have seen such as the LYRIQ and CELESTIQ.

Built on GM’s evolving Ultium platform, the new big SUV will have a double-layer, 200kWh battery pack similar to that used in the GMC Hummer truck and SUV. The ESCALADE will have standard all-wheel drive via dual electric motors (one up front and one out back) for a combined maximum of 750hp.

The overall styling of the new ESCALADE keeps with Cadillac’s current design aesthetic looking much like a LYRIQ that has spent a lot of time pumping iron. Lost are some of the gas Escalade’s tall profile, squared roofline, and sharply chiseled front end, in search of improved aero performance and the extra range that comes with it.

But, in return for that sleeker look…the IQ comes with a 460 miles of estimated range. Ultium battery pack and architecture brings the ability to add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes on sufficiently beefy DC fast charging.

Those dual electric motors moving this beefy Cadillac along also bring performance previously unheard of in a version of the Escalade not followed by a ‘V’. 0-60mph in under 5 seconds which is not far from the Escalade V’s 4.4 seconds (assuming Cadillac doesn’t revise their acceleration numbers before the IQ goes on sale).

This new ESCALADE takes the previous Escalade’s interior tricks and ups them again. Remember the current Escalade was the first Cadillac to have a long screen that extended 38 inches from the instruments to where many cars put an entertainment screen. The ESCALADE IQ says ‘Hold my beer’ and comes to the game with a 55-inch monster. In addition to the previous screen that ran from the driver to the center of the dash, the IQ continues on with a screen in front of the passenger.

Additionally, like the CELESTIQ we have seen before, virtual controls live on a square touch-screen in front of a physical wheel that can be used to move from function to function. When combined with the Executive Seating option, a similar control screen is also available in the rear cabin. That option includes stowable tray tables, 12.6-inch-diagonal personal screens, dual wireless phone charging pads, USB-C and HDMI ports, massaging seats, and headrest speakers. No word on if a partridge in a pear tree will be available as well.

This fancy interior is wrapped in a shell that is both familiar and not like any Escalade we have seen before. However, for context, it may be valuable to compare the new SUV to the old if only to differentiate from the similarly styled LYRIQ. Stats here are in inches and cubic feet in honor of the market that will likely buy the most of these.

What this exposes about the new ESCALADE IQ is that it is over 1 foot longer than the gas-powered model. It is wider by over 4 inches. But, it is just over half an inch shorter. This allows for better headroom in the front two rows but less headroom in the seldom-used third row. We have heard rumors of an ESCALADE IQL that will likely be the right choice for people who need maximum room all the way through the rear-most seats.

The IQL will also be the right choice for cargo as the new ESCALADE sacrifices close to 2 cubic feet behind the rear seats, almost 4 with the third row folded, but only 2 again with all rear seats down (likely to the lower roofline over the gas SUV). The L will almost certainly sacrifice space compared to the Escalade ESV but will be the right choice for drivers looking for the biggest electric SUV money can buy.

However, to make up for some of that lost cargo room is a 12 cubic foot front trunk where the current Escalade stashes its V8 engine. It certainly will be helpful for smaller items or anything that requires additional security over being stored in a more exposed SUV cargo hold.

So, how much will such a full-featured, long range, high performance electric Escalade set you back?

$128000 in base trim. Better equipped versions, like shown on Cadillac.com, carry an MSRP of almost $160000.

For comparison, the current Escalade starts just under $84000 with the ESV starting at almost $87000 for all those extra cubic feet of volume. Stepping up to V spec starts all the way up at $152000.

So, while price conscious Escalade buyers might not like the new ESCALADE IQ’s starting price nor as its prices extend into the current V spec range - it does seem quite in line with what you get for your dollar - especially as you consider V spec performance and a higher spec interior than the gas-powered models.
