What is the strangest thing that has ever happened to you involving rp? (I'm going with this because I could cheat with many of the others :V)
((Yes you could very easily cheat because everyone knows the answers would automatically be YOU. >:V))
Okay so. It took me a full day to think this one up, and this one, for once, actually predates our meeting. This is one that @theaetherhealerffxiv (referred to from here as Neku) can relate to since she was there for most of it. Lurking. In the shadows. As my biggest fangirl ever.
Tumblr media
((Okay I’m the biggest advocate of not being ashamed of your old art, but I can’t deny that it hurts a little bit to post this.))
Waaaaay back in the day, I used to draw a lot of Legend of Zelda fanart. Ran an rp site, ended up making a whole pantheon based on OoT, and eventually slapped them down on paper. Er. Computer. A few people liked them and to this day there’s maybe 158 likes on that pic I shared up there. That’s the backstory.
I ended up on a few different rp forums for different fandoms (Zelda, Naruto, Higurashi no naku koro ni, etc), as well as a few that were just original concepts made by the creators. I don’t remember which one I was on for this, there were many and we knew each other only by character names. Well from 1998 until maybe 2012, I went by the name Kearra (which was my DeviantArt sn). And one day I just randomly mentioned my DA, and a few people reacted with shock. “Wait, YOU’RE Kearra????” Apparently there were quite a few big fans of my “Deities of Hyrule” pics, and I had NO idea. I certainly wasn’t the best artist out there, not by a long shot, and it wasn’t as if the fandom was bereft of amazing artists either. Apparently people just really liked the ideas I put out there, unpolished as they were. I still toy with the idea of revamping the series, just for the nostalgia.
As for Neku... according to her, she followed my DA for years and even made her own account because of me. One day I held “auditions” for an art/rp group I made with friends, and she took a chance and ended up getting in. She’s been with me ever since, even if she still has trouble believing it. It gets funnier too: her husband, who she tangentially met because of me and the circle of friends we shared? He’s a bigger Zelda nerd than I am, and apparently he saw those old pics too.
So yeah. The strangest thing that happened to me through rp: finding out I had fans of my art that I wasn’t even bothering to advertise. It’s both flattering and mind-boggling.
Munday Storytime! (Even though it’s now Tuesday!)
