#OnThisDate: Hello March!! Please be a better month for me than how last month went in my personal life… Last year (3/1/2022), I ate breakfast at Duncan’s Dairy Bar with a client for a potential writing opportunity and picked up, I think, a hot Matcha Latte, at the nearby Dunkin’. Today in the mail (3/1/2023) came my first ever FRONT PAGE feature in TheSpot518!! Since I began contributing in 2016 had I never had a story of mine featured as a top story until now. This was one good piece of news I heard on Monday about this feature landing front page. The Art Associates Gallery Inc will have their art opening for “The Art of Photography” this upcoming Friday, March 3, & it features the talents of 24 Capital Region photographers. This was my second or third time working with Krystal in a tfp trade shoot. She is a multitalented individual, and from what I have seen, theres nothing she cant do. Inspiring to another artist, she holds talents as a photographer, writer, has qualities of an art director and fashion recruit, hairdresser, make up artist, model, dancer, witch, numerologist AND actually has a degree in environmental geology. A couple of times we got together, we actually hung out, let our guards down and cut the bullshit. This time was one of them.

Both former Oswego State students, we met on campus near the Lake Ontario shore. We got our minds right, sitting on the rocks, looking out on the shore and watching a distant thunderstorm. I shouldve known this session would be the most unique up to this point, and honestly sometimes I find myself wishing I could have that energy in every tfp shoot. Tfp shoots are a great opportunity to expose cognitive concepts, expose your deepest creativity and opinions; be a true artist instead of working for the man. I feel like I was the best artistic version of myself when working with her because she always brought her A-game.

The editing process I got to this final point shows that as much as I could in a manipulated image. Unfortunately, this was our last session together. The next time we tried to link up, she forgot we had anything scheduled and it was then I found out she had exited onto a path not many try to wander. I hope the light inside her continues to manifest everything she desires.

I think its safe to say that not everything that is planned is right and not everything that is unexpected is a bad thing either. This was a day that started out as planned and my best images came to me in the moment, spontaneous direction and unintentional observations. Its not always easy to allow that open-mind aura take control and stray into Earth's energy force, pushing you into directions necessary for survival.

I met a new model for a tfp shoot in Cazenovia, NY at the Stone Quarry Hill Art Park. A super innovative space with open fields and random statues in multiple locations. Things like an out-door library, a secret garden and an oddly unfinished doorway that resembles the foundation of what-shouldve-been a house. Among these sculptures are corn fields and long distance hills and trees. It was built for dreamers and playful prentenders. She met me in the parking lot on top of the hill in her pearl colored, manual engine, VW MKV with all the bells and whistles. It was at that moment, I knew it was going to be a good day.

We did a lot of walking that day and came up with a lot of cool stuff. My intentions of this shoot was the mirror, and using it in as many ways possible. This is just one image that I loved from this series. The angle and her reflection in this shot captures my attention like a hypnosis. Mystery and mirrors. You only see what I choose to show and sometimes, maybe I dont even know what that is. "She was like the moon, part of her always hidden away." - Unknown.
