Chapter 13:

Clearly reading Caroline’s discomfort, Rebekah let out a long-suffering sigh and told Klaus, “Fine, brother. We’ll pretend you’re actually here to pick me up. And now that you’ve satisfied your pathetic inner stalker, let’s go.”

            Caroline blinked, completely nonplussed by her actions. Was Rebekah trying to protect her? Her jumbled thoughts were interrupted by Klaus’ low growl of annoyance at his sister. He stalked toward Caroline with a predatory gleam in his eye. 

            “Hello, Caroline,” he greeted, his tone deceptively pleasant as though everything that had happened between them didn’t matter.

            Because it didn’t matter, she harshly reminded herself.

            “She’s a natural,” Caroline murmured in approval, appearing at Klaus’ elbow to give him an affectionate squeeze.
