Billy “Babyface” Beagle - Human -  FC: Ethan Cutkosky

Babyface’s family has gone through a lot of changes since the game began. So many deaths. So many are MIA. He’s failed grades in school and had to repeat. He’s lost so much. But, he’s gained Hell’s Ells. His crib is stuck in Feral where he’s not allowed to stay. He’s not sure where he belongs anymore. All his friends and what’s left of his family are scattered around the world. But he’s trying to figure it out. He knows Circe might still help him. A part of him still longs to go find her. But his drive for Beagles is his first mission. He refuses to consider them all dead. He calls them all Missing but deep down he knows better. The only known Beagles he has in his life right now are his mother, who is in prison, and Black Arts Beagle who is a distance relative he’s only just met and doesn’t know much about. It’s a work in progress trying to make a family gang again. 

His only other thought process lingers on Mazzie and Jax, his old crew, also MIA. But he at least had a lead on where to start looking for them. Things are going to start to changing for Babyface finally. But will they be for the better? 

He is the youngest brother of the infamous Beagle Boys. His entire family is known as no good criminals

His immediate family consists of his Ma and his brothers

He has a great many cousins in the area. It should feel like there’s so many Beagles there’s an endless supply the family is so tight knit and large in the criminal world, largely in and out jailbirds of the system.  MIA

However, Babyface is the one known to have conscious and once helped Scrooge against his brothers. He’s been paying for that flub up ever since. That doesn’t mean he’s all good by any means. But, he thinks a little more than the rest sometimes. He’s not trying to get out. He wants to prove himself. 

He wears getting in trouble with pride. 

Dyslexic and not the strongest reader which discourages him from trying.  

He’s headstrong.

Clever as the dickens, but wise he is not. He tends to get in over his head.

He’s the sort that gets caught. He does his time and he gets right back out. He doesn’t care. As far as he knows that’s just how life works. It does in his family.

His entire family lives in Ratcliffe’s trailer park and pays all their dues on time without hassle. They don’t care about the extra fee to keep their criminal activity under the radar.

So, this is one of the criminal families that Declan spoke of to Taryn and don’t mind Ratcliffe a bit unlike some unless he raises it on them. Then they foul mouth him behind his back. But, they always pay up.

They take up an entire street in the park and few extra scattered ones there’s so many of them.

Babyface is what he goes by due to family nickname by those that really know him. Teachers will call him Billy in hopes of him not following in his family’s footsteps and call him by his given name. 

He’s foolishly unafraid of witches. 

He’s not the guy that’s going to win every fight, but he sure gets into a lot of them. 

Due to his family, he’ll have ties to Lena/Magica & Hypno since Ma Beagle sometimes does business with them.

Fictober – Day 18

Original Fiction: Time Borrowed Prompt #01: I need you Word Count: 1348 Words Warnings: None

“Captain Ryker,” he looked up from the tile floor, straightening in the chair to find an Auditor approaching. A string bean and babyfaced man, labcoat baggy on their gangly form. “You can come on back.” Stiff muscles protested as Ryker got to his feet, trying not to stumble as he followed. “It’s been a bit of a process, but we think we may have finally quarantined the infected sector of I-V,” the Auditor whispered as they walked down the long corridor.

It's Ives. He has a name, Ryker thought, too nervous to say it and screw up his only chance for news on Ives' condition.

“However, we’re afraid that sector is embedded in the firmware of his operating system. Without control of that sector, there’s no control of the rest.” They stopped at a door, the Auditor swiping their wristband causing it to hiss open. Ryker was signaled to follow.

“Think of the BIOS-erker Virus as a souped-up type of Ransomware. It was able to enter biologically via gunshot wound, straight into his TLN network, from there absorbed into his operating system. It was then able to lock down all functions and take over, much like a server at a corporation, only, this operating system walks and talks and can operate a rifle.”

“Yeah,” Ryker felt sick to his stomach at the news it was embedded in Ives’ motherboard.

“The strangest part was when B-0 arrived for repairs and we took a look at what was logged right before he went offline. He kept a connection with I-V but wasn’t infected. We’ve witnessed something as simple as a Bluetooth connection can spread the virus, so the fact B-0 retained a p2p connection without infection is fascinating. It’s also made us wonder if B-0 was able to do something that kept I-V from completely losing control. B-0 recorded several instances where I-V was capable of regaining cognitive function before having to be shut down.”

Ryker didn’t want to even look up from the floor. It had been him who shot Ives, trying to keep him from taking off Beau’s head. A moment of muscle memory more than a tactical decision.

“We think it may still be possible for I-V. That he’s still in there. I know you’ve worked with him for years, imprinted on him even, so I was excited when we received your call. If B-0 was capable of sealing off a sector for I-V to bunker down, there may be a way to find where that sector is.” The Auditor stopped, turning to face Ryker, far too giddy for the report he’d just given. “I-V’s software is replaceable, but his data is not.”

“You mean him,” Ryker said but didn’t entirely know what he was trying to say. His brain? His personality? His soul?

“Exactly. Him. He isn’t. But if we can find where he is, we can extract him from the virus. Separate the salt from the water, so to speak. Then we could easily wipe everything without endangering losing him. And I believe you can help us with that.”

“You, uh, you do?”

“Much like the brain recognizing voices in a coma, I think you may be able to light up just where this hidden sector is.” The Auditor nodded to a door, locked by a palm scanner. “I realize you came by today just for an update, but if there’s any time you have to spare to test this hypothesis, we would greatly appreciate it.”

“What, you want me to talk to him?”

“Just in general. If he’s going to recognize anyone’s voice, I have a theory it would be yours.”

“S-sure. You know, if you think it would help.”

“I hope that it does. If we’re able to bring I-V stable, we may be able to get answers on how to stop and reverse the BIOS-erker virus.” He stepped past Ryker, scanning his palm on the door. “You don’t have to worry, his systems are quarantined so he isn’t any danger.” Ryker couldn’t help but lean as the door opened, trying to peek inside.

It wasn't the possibility Ives was still rabid Ryker worried about. He simply had never done well when visiting those in hospitals. Even if it was for something as simple as a broken limb. People were different once they became a patient. But Ives looked eerily the same. Ryker followed the Auditor into the room, standing beside the bed where Ives lay. From the neck down he was fitted in a compression suit, a panel on the side of his neck open where a number of lines entered and exited, to and from panels on the wall. Each was a 3D tile filled with the violet-black substance of TLN.

“He isn’t fully connected to the rest of his body,” the Auditor explained, motioning to the panels that held Ryker’s attention. “We’re manually cycling TLN to keep his body functioning until we can reattach everything.” He pulled a folding chair from its inset in the wall, folding it out and setting it beside Ryker.

“I’m going to be in the lab a few doors down, watching for any reaction of his system. The only audio connection I have is when you hold down the tab, there, on the wall.” He pointed by the door. “So if you need to discuss confidential Mediator information, no one else will hear. I actually suggest it, since familiar instances and discussions may help trigger a response. Feel free to stay as long as you like. Just page me when you’re ready to go.” He stood there, waiting for a response.

“Yeah, okay. I can do that.” Ryker pulled the chair over, sitting even with Ives’ shoulder as the Auditor left, sealing the door. It was dead silent besides the whirr and hiss of the panels of TLN.

Drawing in a deep breath, Ryker looked at Ives' face. He looked like he always did when he was shut down. Not sunken or pallid like usual hospital patients did.

“Well, I’d say you look like shit, but, honestly, you look better than me, pal.” Ryker chuckled, catching himself staring at the middle of his forehead –where he had shot him. He'd been repaired, not even a blemish to give it away. But Ryker knew it was there.

It was there because of him.

“S...sorry about shooting you, by the way. Training sort of took over. Beau’s doing alright, too. Tough little guy, his new arm is supposed to be in at the end of the week. So we’re all just waiting on you.”

He kept talking, on and on, thinking of everything that had happened between the attack at the shipping yard and that moment. Every call they’d gotten. The new quarter budget. Plans Thatcher had and random news he’d caught over the past few days. He rambled for as long as he could think of things to say, hoping the door would open and an Auditor would interrupt to say they had it. They'd found him.

Eventually, he ran out of things to say.

It was silent again. Ryker scanned Ives’ static face, hit with the realization he could do this all day, for weeks, months, and they wouldn’t get an inch closer to bringing Ives back. If they couldn’t, they’d more than likely wipe him. Throw him out with the virus as if he never existed. It was possible Ives was already dead.

Ryker's throat tightened, burning in his sinuses as he leaned over his knees.

“C’mon buddy,” he whispered to the floor, desperately trying to keep his voice steady. “Things are starting to get scary, and, honestly, I’m worried where we’re headed. And I don’t even mean job-wise." Ryker smeared his hands down his face as he looked up again. "It hasn't gone public yet, but government ops are having to start rationing our water use. We’ve had to cut back on how much water we can filter. Wind turbines aren’t producing as much as they usually do either, and there’s been reports out west of rolling blackouts. It just… it’s eerily familiar to when I was a kid, Ives. I’m worried.”

He reached out, placing a hand on Ives’ arm. Motionless. Cold. Nothing in Ives' face changed, filling Ryker with the sinking dread that he was gone.

“I,” he took a moment, blinking back tears, “I need you, Ives. I need you here because you know what to do more often than I do. You're my rock." He chuckled against another surge of sinus burning. "I don’t know how to start down this road if you’re not here. And if things are going downhill, if I lose you, we really are fucked."

He stared at Ives, gently patting his arm.

"Please come back, Ives. Please?"

Ma Beagle - DECEASED - By Horned King Take Over and Fae Dancing Curse 

Babyface’s Mother (FC: Natasha Lyonne) ALIVE in Prison

Brandy Beagle: She is currently incarcerated on a second degree murder charge serving 30 years without parole and wrapped up in appeals courts.

The mother’s incarceration left the boys to pretty much fend for themselves. Ma Beagle used to be a high crime Madam once upon a time, but couldn’t stay on top of the world forever. Now she is pretty bat shit, senile, and not great for decision making, but tough as nails, and in all technicality she is Babyface’s legal guardian. It’s not like any of the older brothers or family ever stepped up to deal in that kind of legality. 

The boys all do their own things, but when the heat is on, Ma Beagle gets the final call. They still turn to her for when push comes to shove even though they’re also known for “letting her loose” in the trailer park to get her out of their hair when she’s in her less lucid states, or lock her in closets, and hope she just doesn’t remember later. They call her cane “the cracker” and she’ll crack any of them over the head, poke them in the throats, trip them while they’re walking, or bust them in the gut if they don’t show her respect. She’ll do that to anyone actually not just her boys.

There is no father ever named or involved with Babyface. Some of his brothers might know some of their fathers. He just happens to be one that doesn’t. He’s not the only one.
