different anon but the haunting of hill house book is VERYYY different from the tv show for the record!! i loved it though <3 shirley jackson's books we have always lived in the castle and hangsaman are also good & short reads! sharp objects has some scenes that i think could border on torture so be careful when reading!! and rebecca is on the longer side but an excellent gothic novel <3
ohhh thank you so much for the message, anon <3 that’s really good to know because I literally know nothing about hohh beside some snippets I have seen from the show. I think I’m definitely gonna read it next!! also thank you so much about the ‘warning’ about sharp objects, that’s really good to know!! I recently read a clockwork orange and I actually skipped the torture scenes because I know I can’t handle them but just knowing that they were in the book still made me feel nauseous for a whole day ahsjs 😭 I need to become better with checking content warnings before I start reading stuff. I did read we have always lived in a castle some time ago but I haven’t heard from hangsaman yet, so I’m definitely gonna check it out!! again, thank you so much for this message 💗
#thank you so much anon <33#I really need to start to check storygraph for content warnings before I pick#*up a book#but the thing is#I always forget how badly I handle torture scenes#until I come across them ahsjsn#and then I’m physically ill for hours 💀#talking about a clock work orange tho…#I just generally need to stop reading dystopian books LOL#because 1) I don’t like the genre and 2) almost all of them include torture scenes ahsjs#I think I do have read all of the classics now anyways#except like one or two maybe#anyways I’m rambling ahshs#answered#anonymous
