Choosing the Right UK SIM Card: Factors to Consider
Are you travelling to the UK soon? You may be visiting for a vacation, staying in the UK temporarily for work, or moving here permanently. You could be travelling briefly or coming home to see your relatives and friends.
Hence, to avoid paying expensive international roaming fees and stay in touch with loved ones, friends, and coworkers while visiting the country, getting a local sim is a good idea. With so many possibilities, picking the best UK sim card might be overwhelming. Therefore, you should figure out how best to stay connected using your phone without a big hole in your pocket.
Generally, getting yourself a local sim card is recommended to avoid paying your mobile network operator's international roaming fees. There are many variables to determine which works the cheapest and most affordable, so it is essential to research and make the purchase.
Here's a quick and concise guide to glance through while choosing the correct sim for your travel or stay. Factors to consider are as below:
Network coverage:
It's essential to consider the provider's network coverage when selecting the best UK sim card. To ensure you have dependable connectivity, verifying the network coverage in the region where you will be staying is a good idea. EE, O2, Vodafone, and Three are a few major network service providers in the UK. Additionally, cheaper network providers that utilise the networks of the primary providers, like Giffgaff or Tesco Mobile, may offer better offers.
Data allowance:
Choosing the best UK sim card requires consideration of your data consumption. Think about how much data you'll need for online streaming and browsing. If you anticipate using your phone a lot, look for offers with unlimited or sizable data allowances. Awareness of data speed limits and fair usage guidelines is also crucial.
Phone and text allowances:
When selecting a UK sim, think about how much you'll need to phone and text within the UK and internationally. While other SIM cards may only give international call and text allowances, some offer unlimited calls and texts to UK lines. Pay attention to the costs for calls and texts that also go above your plan.
Contract length:
When choosing a UK sim card, decide if you want a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) sim or a contract SIM. Contract SIMs may provide better pricing and perks, while PAYG sims may be more flexible because you may top them off whenever needed. PAYG sims have no minimum period, contract SIMs typically have a minimum term of 12 months and hence may work out as the best UK sim card option for you.
Cost:
Compare sim card prices to find the best value proposition SIM card deal for your needs. Pay close attention to any upfront expenses, ongoing expenses, and fines for exceeding your allowances. Consider any additional perks, such as free streaming access or price savings on phone purchases.
Roaming:
Consider the roaming possibilities offered by your SIM card if you intend to travel outside the UK. Some SIM cards may allow free roaming or charge lower roaming costs in some countries. Pay close attention to any guidelines on fair usage or limitations on roaming data allocations.
Additional features:
Some UK sim cards could provide extras like WiFi hotspot access or reward programmes. Consider if you can benefit from some of these offers and if they warrant any additional fees or charges.
Can you buy a UK sim online?
It is easy and a preferred choice to buy a sim online. However, delivery is typically only available to residential addresses in the UK. If you're staying long enough, ordering a pay-as-you-go sim card online might be feasible and having it delivered to your lodging.
There are many options to buy online as well. One that you should check is Remigos. Their team is known to be friendly, and the process is hassle-free.
Are you a student who wants to get a local sim card?
You can obtain the best UK sim card through a straightforward and uncomplicated process as a student. Students can apply for it at their convenience, online or at a nearby mobile store.
Always ask the operator for more details on the UK phone plans for overseas students to get an economical option. You might be on a budget as a student; given all other expenses, a prepaid or pay-as-you-go might work out better.
You might need some proof to get a sim card:
Identification documentation – You can present your university ID, passport, and visa.
Address proof: Utility bills or bank statements can verify your present address in the UK.
Some operators may also select a credit score check. Depending on availability, you may benefit from a UK Student Guarantor facility.
Choosing the best UK sim card is no doubt a daunting task. It gets confusing with many options and limited time to figure out which one could be the most viable choice. However, it's essential to understand your consumption requirement and your phone habits, such as how often you make voice calls, do you travel internationally frequently, whether you spend more time browsing the internet etc.
Once you understand your requirement clearly, it will be simpler to make the final choice. Because then you will have more clarity on consumption and, therefore, can pick the right one for you.

Vodafone mobile broadband speed reviews
Learn more about mobile network coverage. So, even if mobile broadband coverage from them is sketchy in a given area now, it may improve soon. Vodafone has committed to reaching 90% of the UK's landmass by 2026 in line with other networks. This should improve options for customers in rural areas. Plus, Vodafone has joined the other three mobile networks in agreeing to invest a total of £532m in locations where at least one operator has good coverage but others don't. To combat this problem, the Government has agreed to invest an additional £500m in extending mobile coverage to hard-to-reach locations where networks wouldn't commercially roll out their infrastructure. While this may seem low, it's second to EE's 85% and demonstrates the fact that some of the UK's rural areas are difficult to reach. If we're looking at the geographical landmass of the UK, Vodafone's coverage is 82%. Vodafone come in at a solid second place for their 4G coverage across the UK's landmass and come joint first for 4G coverage indoors, according to Ofcom's Connected Nations 2020 report.ĩ5% of indoor premises across the UK can access Vodafone's 4G network, putting them joint first with O2 compared to the 90% offered by Three and 93% offered by EE. The upfront costs of the GigaCube are prohibitive for rolling deals, especially the hefty £325 for the 5G GigaCube.Īlong with this, the monthly costs are far above what customers would pay for Vodafone's fixed line broadband, so the GigaCube is very much a niche option and it's maybe unsurprising that customers need to go through a Live Chat conversation to get one. Here are some examples of how their pricing compares across the different contract lengths available: SIM onlyĭata SIM deals from Vodafone start with 4GB of data and go all the way up to unlimited data plans. Plus, customers signing up to Unlimited deals should be aware that only Unlimited Max plans allow top speeds - we look at this in more detail in the speed section later. Be sure to check contract length before signing up. They also offer a solution covering mobile broadband for the home called the GigaCube - but it's trickier to get hold of.īefore we dive into the details, it's worth pointing out that Vodafone's contract lengths switch between 1-month, 12 months and 24 months depending on which deal we're looking at. Vodafone offer deals on data SIMs that can be used in tablets and pre-owned mobile broadband devices or customers can purchase a mobile broadband device with a SIM direct from Vodafone.

How To Buy A Mobile Phone – Do Your Research And Get Best Mobile In UK
Of course, having so many options to buy a phone looks like a very difficult process. But never worry - broadband options are here. Please read on and we will guide you through it at every step.
1. Do Your Research First, you need to do some research to find out what type of phone you want to buy. Think about your last mobile phone's practices and things you don't like; see what your friends have; and read some models to find out what's there.
Consider The Following :
Price - Are you willing to worry about the best mobile phone you can find, or do you want cheap and cheerful things because of cash? If you have a budget, check out our cheapest mobile guide, or if you are not, check out our top mobile phone of the year.
Size, shape and design - you will be using a new phone, so make sure it is your favorite phone. Huge tablet phones, thick and compact phones, stylish metal and colored plastic look and feel very different. If you browse the web, watch a video or play a lot of games, the big screen is the ideal choice, but smaller screens tend to be cheaper.
Operating system - iPhone or Android? Each has unique benefits... and problems. iOS has great connectivity and can seamlessly sync iPod, iPad or Mac. On the other hand, the robot is super customizable, but it looks a bit different on every phone. Going to find Android? Find out what we like best in our guide.
Specifications - Consider processor, RAM, etc. Most flagship phones use the latest technology, and if you want to use a lot of apps, play games, watch videos or multitasking, this is the ideal choice. On the other hand, if you never use them, there is no use for top product specifications.
Storage - Internal storage is used to save your apps, messages, photos and files, and can usually be extended with an SD card. A large application can easily take up more than 1GB, so don't be too conservative here.
Display - Some phones offer amazing 4D HD quality - although this usually means they are more expensive. Still, if you're using your phone to read small text, watch videos or play games, it's still worth it.
Camera - Most smartphones come with a camera, but they can vary greatly. Some are similar to digital SLR cameras, some use front-facing cameras for self-portraits and video calls, and some just have a simple point-and-shoot camera on the back, without doing anything special. If it's the best squid you want, check out our top five camera phones.
Features - Do you want 4G features? NFC? Heart rate monitor? Removable battery? Some high-end phones have some high-end features that you think are essential. For example, 4G means faster Internet, while NFC allows things like Apple Pay.
Browse and compare your phone here, or check out some of our hands-on phone reviews.
2. Choose A Mobile Phone
Once you've studied the situation around you and figured out what you want, you can make a shortlist and pick out the phone you like. Or, if you can't narrow down, choose two or three that you'd like to have and compare each transaction you get.
If you switch from iPhone to Android and vice versa, check out how to move smoothly.
3. Choose A Price Plan
There are three main ways to pay for a mobile phone : monthly payment, SIM only (requires you to buy a mobile phone), and pay-as-you-go (which also requires you to buy a mobile phone). Let's take a look at these options in more detail.
Monthly payment : Get a phone and SIM card on a single contract. These usually last for two years. The contract makes the price of the flagship phone or new model more affordable, because you won't pay hundreds of pounds in advance, but in general it will cost more. In addition, you have signed a two-year contract - although if you choose a phone you like and the tariff is valid, then it is not that bad. Here are our favorite contract deals this month.
SIM card only : Buy your phone directly and sign up for a SIM-only plan. Since SIM-only programs usually don't last long, they are more flexible - especially if you choose a 30-day plan. In general it can be cheaper, but remember that you need to cough up the dough for your new phone right away. Check out our best SIM card offers here.
Pay-as-you-go : buy a SIM card anytime, anywhere by purchasing a mobile phone directly. Instead of using a fixed set of minutes, text and data in a month, using pay-as-you-go, you only pay for calls, text messages and data downloads. This is the most flexible option for the lot, but it rarely has good value - especially if you are a medium to heavy mobile user.
The best way to choose a plan is to look at the number of minutes, the number of texts, and the amount of data you are using now, and calculate how much you need for the new plan. Figure out how much your monthly mobile budget is - and how much you are willing to spend on the phone - and look for deals that fit both.
Keep in mind that getting a cool modern phone often means you'll use it more... this may mean using more data. If you are upgrading, you can choose a plan with a slightly higher data capacity - even use unlimited data.
Do you know, can you also take out the mobile phone on the contract yourself? For more information, please see our mobile trading guide.
4. Compare The Network
Some mobile networks are designed for low-cost users. Others are those who use their mobile phones frequently and want to get unlimited data. Some people have amazing 4G coverage, while others don't. Some networks offer cool add-ons such as discounted tickets or entertainment subscriptions.
However, two key factors are important: coverage and price. Check out our coverage guide to find out which networks cover the areas where you live, work and spend most of your time. Then use our comparison tool to see the plans you can get.
If it turns out that there are some networks that can meet your needs, use our guide to find the one that works best for you.
Have you purchased a broadband package from BT, EE, Plusnet, Sky or Virgin Media? As an existing customer, you may be able to get a better deal on the contract.
5. Go Ahead!
Find the plan you like and give you what you want on the web? Select it from the list and click on the provider to register. If you choose a SIM card only program, please remember to order your phone separately. And presto! You will soon be chatting on your new phone.

The best mobile phone deals in June 2018
Compare and filter today’s best mobile phone deals in the UK:
Following the Mobile World Congress back at the end of February, we’re finally starting to see some new flagship phones hit the market. The likes of Samsung, Sony and Huawei have launched new handsets, and other manufacturers will follow. And you’ve come to the right place if you want to make your life easier when trying to find the best mobile phone deal for your needs and budget.
Sit back, relax and prepare to bag a bargain. We’ve rooted out the cheapest deals on the best handsets from the major UK networks. Use TechRadar’s custom made price comparison chart above to find your ideal phone and contract – simply pick your desired handset, budget and allowances and we’ll tell you the very best phone deal around.
Below, you can browse through our individual handset guides for all of the best mobile phone deals out there, whether you’re after the iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy S9 or something a little older (and cheaper!). Want a free phone? Lots of data? The lowest possible monthly cost? We’ll help you find the perfect deal. We’ve even picked out the best SIM only deals, in case you’re not quite ready to part with your current handset.

Buying a mobile phone – what you need to know
Of course you want to find the cheapest price for your new smartphone – and our comparison chart at the top of the page will narrow that down for you – but we know there are likely to be dozens more questions you’ll want answering. Keep reading below, where we answer some of the key commonly asked questions about buying a new mobile.
Can I keep my old number?
You can indeed, and it’s really easy – so no need to send one of those texts to everybody in your phone book telling them your new digits.
What you need to do is grab a PAC – or Porting Authorisation Code – from your old network. We’ve listed the direct numbers you need for the four major networks below. As soon as they’ve sent it to you, which should be within a day or two, you just need to give it to your new network. Voila – brand new phone with the same old number. Easy.
It becomes slightly less easy if the deal you pick out above is on the same network as your current one. They won’t let you keep your number, so you have to use this workaround. Buy a free pay-as-you-go SIM from any other network and tell your network that you’re moving. They’ll release the PAC code, which you then give to the substitute network. Then, you immediately get another PAC code from them. Take that to your old network, and they’ll move your number to your new contract. Long winded, but worth it.

Which phone network is best?
Loyalty is an admirable trait, but could end up costing you money when it comes to the perfect phone deal. If you don’t mind leaving your comfort zone, you may find that heading to one of the other major networks may well be worth it…
Despite what Richard Branson’s adverts might suggest, EE is the Usain Bolt of phone networks. Nobody else can come close to EE’s 4G speeds in the UK. So if you rely on fast internet while away from WI-Fi, then EE is the obvious choice. Plus, EE gives you three free months of BT Sport (or more if you get a Max plan) when you sign up, as well as six months of Apple Music. The EE coverage checker will confirm how strong it is where you live.
The biggest lure to O2 is the network’s Priority rewards (well, that and Sean Bean’s mellifluous tones). From cheap lunches and free coffees to first refusal on big gig tickets, O2 is the network for regular goodies. Plus, they have 1000s of Wi-Fi hotspots in shops and cafes that you can connect to. Use the O2 coverage checker to see whether you’ll be able to access 4G.
Good news for jet-setters – Vodafone lets you use your data, calls and texts allowances in 50 countries around the world without charge (except on its Basics tariffs). But things really start to get good when you splash out on its bigger Red Entertainment data plans, as Vodafone will give you your choice of a NOW TV Entertainment Pass, Spotify Premium or Sky Sports Mobile subscription. Click to check if Vodafone covers your home.
3 remains the king of the big data deals, and still the only one of the big four networks to offer unlimited, uncapped, all-you-can-eat delicious data. We also like that you can use 4G to make calls and texts via the dedicated Three inTouch app, and you can connect to Wi-Fi in the London Underground if you ever find yourself in the capital. Its Wuntu app gives weekly perks, too. But 4G coverage isn’t as strong as the other networks – check whether your postcode is covered with the Three coverage checker.
What phone contract length should I get?
Well if you’re buying a new phone plan with a contract, you haven’t got much choice. It’s 24 months or nothing, these days. If you don’t want to be tied down to that kind of commitment, then you’ll have to go down the SIM only route and buy the handset separately – we’ve rounded up the best SIM free phone deals to help you make your chocie.
How much phone data do I need?
The answer to this one will be different for everybody. If you only really carry your phone for emergencies, then go for the minimum amount of data and save a packet. If you like to scroll through Facebook on the bus and stream Spotify, you’ll need a bit more. And if you frequently stream videos and download masses of files, then 30GB or even unlimited may be worth paying extra for.
As well as checking your phone to see how much you tend to use a month at the moment, the below guidelines will also help you pick out the perfect plan:
1GB Some networks offer 500MB plans, but realistically we think you should get at least 1GB. It won’t be much more expensive (if at all) and will afford you a little bit of Google Mapping, WhatsApping and emailing when you need them.
2-3GB If you like to scroll through your social media feeds and emails while out and about without fear of extra cash to pay on your monthly bill, then up your data.
4-8GB The likes of Spotify and Apple Music have promised us all our favourite tunes wherever we roam. Kit yourself out with a bit more data and you’ll have plenty for music streaming and the occasional video, too. 10-16GB This should be more than enough for most users. Loads of data for streaming music, downloading podcasts and enjoying social media videos. Because there’s no such thing as too many cats falling into bins.
20-30GB Big data for the big phone user. Perfect for watching Netflix videos, downloading content and streaming loads of music. And these plans often have extra freebies thrown in, too.
Unlimited The Three network is still the only one of the ‘Big 4’ to offer unlimited data. It can be really pricey though, so think long and hard whether you really need it.
Should I get unlimited calls and texts?
Actually these days, the vast majority of phone contracts feature unlimited calls and texts. We do see some of the cheaper plans sometimes limit them, but even if they do, you can use your data allowance on popular apps like WhatsApp, Skype and Hangouts to make calls and texts if your minutes run dry.
How much phone memory do I need?
You’re likely to be one of two kinds of person:
Person 1: You like all your photos, music, downloads and other media to be saved directly on to your phone. If that sounds like you, 16GB or 32GB handsets may not be enough and you should use our comparison chart to find the most affordable 64GB, 128GB or 256GB models.
Person 2: You’re a stream demon. You’ve got subscriptions to Spotify and Netflix and you save all your Word docs and snaps into the cloud. Save your money and go for a cheaper, lower memory handset.
OK person 3, calm down – you fall somewhere between the two, right? If you can afford to get a smartphone with more memory, that is probably safest. But don’t forget that most phones do allow you to insert an additional SD card if you run out of space – most phones apart from iPhones, that is.
Are refurbished phones good to buy?
Refurbished phones can provide a alternative to a new handset if you’re budget is a shoestring. ‘Refurbished’ often means that the previous owner simply changed their mind about the phone soon after buying it, so it’s still practically brand new – and the potential savings can be substantial.
If you do spy an unbelievable deal on a refurbed phone, the main thing to make sure of is the warranty. Double check that you are properly covered for a decent length of time. A year’s warranty is preferable.
TechRadar’s unbiased and independent mobile phone deals comparison
Thanks for visiting TechRadar’s mobile phone deal comparison page! Our price comparison system includes 2.47 million mobile phone contracts from all of the major networks and resellers so that you can always find the one that suits you best.
Unlike some other major sites, our philosophy is to always display you with the absolute cheapest deals for the criteria you select. So you’ll always be able to see the cheapest prices for the best phones with contracts with the most generous data allowances.
How does TechRadar make money from affiliates?
If you buy a phone after visiting this page, TechRadar will be paid a small commission by the network or reseller you buy from. This money is paid by the site you buy from and thus does not affect the amount you pay for your phone contract. If you go direct to the site you buy from, you would pay the same amount.
The money that TechRadar makes from this free service allows us to improve our product comparison tools and pay the editors who trawl through all the sites and select the best deals every month.
While some sites out there will be paid larger fees for pushing people to specific deals that aren’t necessarily the cheapest, TechRadar will always find you the absolute cheapest deal. Trust and integrity is important to us, so if you ever think we’re not displaying the very best deals let us know.
How do we order these mobile phone deals?
Our mobile phone deal comparison tools sift through millions of different deals and surfaces the ones we think are the very best. Essentially that means finding deals that work out the cheapest over a 24 month contract while still supplying at least 1GB of data, as you’ve told us that 1GB is your absolute minimum. If you need more data, use the filters and we’ll display the cheapest prices for your increased amount.
On this specific page, we have many mobile phone options displaying in one comparison table. In this case, we try and find you a balance between paying the cheapest price and getting the best phone for your money.
How do the mobile phone deals comparison tools work?
The comparison tools you find on the page above will hopefully be very easy to use. You can select what your budget is, whether it be upfront cost or monthly fee or both. And you can say how much data you need or how many minutes and texts. You can even filter by network if you really want to be on a specific carrier. The deals will automatically update as you drill down in your search, always favouring the cheapest options over the more expensive ones. If you ever want to refresh and start your search again, simply select the ‘CLEAR ALL FILTERS’ option to begin again from scratch.
What is TechRadar?
TechRadar is Europe’s largest technology reviews website with over 22 million visitors every month. It’s our aim to provide you with the very best buying advice, always. If you’d like to read reviews of the mobile phones you see on this page, you can visit TechRadar’s reviews homepage.
How do we select which networks and resellers to display?
TechRadar strives to include all mobile phone deals from all UK networks and resellers so that you can search through all the available deals in the UK without having to look on all the websites separately. However, for sites to be included they need to supply us with a feed of their deals. This is the only reason why a phone reseller or network wouldn’t appear in our system – but the vast majority do.
Best value mobile phone deals of the month:
Our editors look at all of the available deals for all of the best smartphones every week of every month of every year – not just when the going is good around Black Friday. In this section, we’ve picked out the best deal available right now for each phone, as well as a link through to the ‘best deals’ guide for each individual handset.

Huawei P20 and P20 Pro: Price, availability, and release date (Updated) The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro were unveiled in Paris at the end of March following months of rumors. The successors to 2017’s Huawei P10 lineup bring unique, all-new designs, 18.7:9 aspect ratio displays, powerful Kirin 970 chipsets, and either 4 or 6GB of RAM. The P20 Pro even has three rear-facing cameras. Yeah, these phones are hot. But where can you buy the P20 and P20 Pro? And how much do they cost? Find all you need to know below. Huawei P20 and P20 Pro price The Huawei P20 price is £599 (649 euro) for 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while the Huawei P20 Pro price is considerably higher at £799 (899 euro) — but that gets you 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. For reference, the P10 retailed for 649 euro when it launched in February 2017, while the Plus model went for 799 euro. Huawei also announced a device called the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS, continuing the phone company’s partnership with the luxury brand. This high-end phone will cost 1,695 euro for the model with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the 6GB/512GB model will go for a whopping 2,095 euro. Huawei P20 and P20 Pro release date and availability The Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro were released on Friday, April 6 in the UK and other territories while the Porsche Design Mate RS won’t be available until Thursday, April 12. Huawei isn’t giving away many exact details for the latter yet, but it did say the device would be available “globally.” The P20 lineup isn’t coming to the United States, and that shouldn’t be much of a surprise — the P10 lineup didn’t either, and Huawei has had multiple failed attempts to bring its phones to the U.S. We can speculate, however, that the P20 and P20 Pro could go on sale in multiple regions in Europe, the U.K., Australia, Africa, China, and more. We will update this section as we learn more about Huawei’s plans. Huawei P20 and P20 Pro deals UK Carriers EE EE has possibly the best P20 Pro deal going right now as you can apparently pick it up for £509 instead of £799. To take advantage of this, you’ll need to visit a brick-and-mortar EE store and take out the device on PAYG (£499 for the handset plus a £10 minimum top-up). This may not be available in all areas, and we’ve no idea how long it will last (the information is based on the user comments on the HotDealsUK), so best call ahead if you’re thinking of taking a trip to a store. Carphone Warehouse If you live in the U.K. you can buy the P20 or P20 Pro at a number of major retailers. At Carphone Warehouse, you’ll find the devices in Blue and Black SIM-free for their £599 and £799 respective prices. You can also find them on contract, from £29.00 per month (£49.99 upfront) for the regular model and £48.00 per month (£59.99 upfront) for the P20 Pro. Buy P20 from Carphone Warehouse Buy P20 Pro from Carphone Warehouse Vodafone UK Vodafone UK also stocks both devices, but here they’re only available in Black and on contract. The offers are pretty decent, however: the P20 comes in at £23 per month with a £139 upfront cost, while the P20 Pro starts at £37 per month with a £149 upfront cost. Buy P20 from Vodafone Buy P20 Pro from Vodafone O2 UK O2 UK has the devices on contract starting at £46.00 per month and £9.99 upfront for the P20 and £52.00 per month with £9.99 upfront for the P20 Pro. The handsets come in black and O2 is also offering £100 flight gift cards with purchases until May 9 (find more details at the links below). Buy P20 from O2 Buy P20 Pro from O2 Three Three has the phones available in black and blue on a range of tariffs — running up to £60 per month for the Pro model with “unlimited” data. The P20 starts at £29 per month with a £99 upfront cost and, for the P20 Pro, you’re looking at £39.00 per month with a £99.00 upfront cost. Buy P20 from three Buy P20 Pro from Three Retailers Clove Clove offers U.K. buyers the black P20 and P20 Pro unlocked for £599 and £799 respectively. New Post has been published on Broadband London
New Post has been published on http://www.broadbandlondon.com/2017/02/24/why-i-just-switched-back-to-ee-from-three/
Why I just switched back to EE from Three
EE and Three are both major mobile networks in the UK and both offer very compelling packages. I had been with EE for a few years and, quite rarely for me, was very impressed with their service. The network was good, and the service was good.
The problem was that their roaming deals were not so good, and the pull of Three’s Feel At Home was very strong. So I made the leap and I moved over to Three. Big mistake – my experience of the network performance in and around London has been very poor and the roaming.. well, that’s just terrible. Yes, you get free calls back home but there are three problems with the deal:
The roaming data speed appears to be throttled so heavily that in some instances it is unusable for anything beyond WhatsApp
You can’t tether your laptop or tablet to your phone when travelling
You can call home for free, but you can’t call the country that you are in for free
So, it was time to go back to EE. I have a phone that I’m very happy with so I took at look at EE’s Sim Only deals, on just a 12 month contract. I’m pretty sure I’ve picked up a bargain – I pay £30.00 per month and get 30GB of data, unlimited calls & unlimited texts (and they throw BT Sport in too). When I’m travelling in the EU I can use 15GB of that 30GB for free, no throttling and I can tether my laptop. Calls back home from the EU country are free, but also calls in in the EU country are free too. That means that contacting the people I’m visiting won’t incur huge bills.
I’m back on the EE network and couldn’t be happier. I get 4G+ in and around London which is blazingly fast and I’m paying much less than I was paying Three.
If you want to find out more about EE you can see our page here, or go to the sim only deals directly here.

Virgin Mobile utilizes EE’s network for fast 4G coverage and adds unused data from one month to the next to avoid waste. Messaging across Facebook Messenger, Twitter, and WhatsApp doesn’t count towards data usage.
BT Mobile
One of the big highlights of BT Mobile is the free BT Sport app, which gives customers access to Premier League games live. This is free for three months on 500MB – 3GB deals or free for life with 15GB contracts. Data, call, and text allowances apply in 47 countries worldwide.
iD Mobile
This network offers monthly caps to avoid exceeding a limit and unused data rolls over automatically. Wi-Fi calling is available too.
Smarty
Smarty is a great network for bad credit card holders, as there are no credit checks. It offers SIM-only UK contract phone deals, incredibly low prices, and pays users back for unused data. Contracts roll over month to month.
Tesco Mobile
Cap monthly spending with Tesco Mobile and upgrade to a new phone at any time with Anytime Upgrade Flex.
Lebara Mobile
This network’s SIM-only deals include usage caps and there are no credit checks. It’s another solid option for bad credit score phones.
TalkMobile
Customers can cap data to avoid unexpected charges. All SIM only contracts offer unlimited texts and calls.
Sky Mobile
Users with existing Sky accounts can stream Sky TV and access Sky Apps at any time without devouring data. All unused data rolls over.
Voxi
Voxi is aimed at younger customers with its 30-day SIM-only contracts. Social media or messaging apps can be used without affecting data allowances.
