The more I re-watch Justified the more I love Ava and her character arc. Many dislike her prison scenes/plot, but to me, what she went through there was vital in order for her to break free from Boyd for good. Boyd would have end up killing her at one point, sooner or later.

Ava is a survivor, and unlike Winona, she is crafty, smart and willing enough to get herself out of (often her own created) dire situation and stand on her own two feet, instead of always relying one man or another to take care of her or clean her messes for her. I respect that! And good for her to take advantage of men in her life, too, when it's needed. God knows they have used her in their own little power games plenty of times.
