thoughts on the "mai posseses monotv" theory? :eyes: like, it explains so much! the reason monotv could go anywhere was because mai was using the flipside!
Hey! Well, it’s certainly a theory with a lot of spirit to it!… I’m not funny. Anyways, it’s an interesting concept, and I can also use this as an excuse to talk about other theories drawing connection between MonoTV and Mai, so let’s see!
DRDT Full CH2 Spoilers. CW: Death, mentions of gun violence
(Also, “flipside” like- like the FNAF term? Did you people check my channel after watching Vivisection or… Certainly wasn’t ready to see it applied to DRDT lol)
Let’s start by the funniest thing about this theory: there’s technically evidence that ghosts exist in DRDT. In the most roundabout, absolutely-not-a-valid-argument way imaginable, but it technically exists. The argument is that DRDT takes place in the same universe as Trigger Happy Havoc, which takes place in the same universe as Ultra Despair Girls, and UDG has ghosts (and if there’s any in THH beyond Kirigiri “hearing the footsteps of death” or whatever I forgot about them). Clearly, the groundwork is there, absolute foreshadowing masterclass from dev-
Alright so obviously that’s silly, but even beyond that argument, there’s technically nothing disproving ghosts in DRDT. We do have semi-supernatural elements already, such as Teruko’s luck, Xander’s strength, Rose’s memory, MonoTV’s disappearance acts, and the whole Eyes situation. Really cool and awesome eyes, wouldn’t have them any other way; also not humans work. And of course, some people believe in a time loop, and that’s a perfectly valid theory, so why not ghosts?
Well, unfortunately, while the ghosts are weird but not disqualifying, I think the Mai part is also a bit of an issue for me to believe it. It falls into ye old DRDT theorist trap of assuming any unidentified person (or personality, in this case) is Mai, which, let’s be clear, I’ve also dabbled in (see: “Mai is the girl Eden kissed” crack theory), but that doesn’t mean that these things aren’t always a bit of a long shot.
In this case, probably the big question would be “what does it mean for Mai to possess MonoTV?” Or alternatively, to address the other idea going around, “what would it mean for the personality driver to be based on Mai?” It’s not straight up its identity; even DefaultTV refers to itself as “MonoTV” and “not a human.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DefaultTV: Greetings, everyone. My name is MonoTV.
DefaultTV: Perhaps you’ve mistakenly conflated me with a human and thought I have a ‘soul’ that is intrinsically connected to my body. But I am not human.
I mean it even says it doesn’t have a soul. Or, well, if it has one, it isn’t connected to the MonoTV body, but the former is more likely in my eyes.
Also real quick, voices don’t match either. DefaultTV has the same VA as MonoTV, Artimmiss just has incredible range (and Unnamed Classmate is voiced by someone else). This doesn’t really affect any theories but it’s worth mentioning.
It’s also not personality, as far as we know. Unnamed Classmate is too nice to be MonoTV and too cheery to be DefaultTV, so unless Mai changed significantly in the time between the Bonus Episodes and the time she possesses MonoTV/her personality is used as a base for DefaultTV (which we currently have no evidence for), then the personalities don’t match.
There is, admittedly, one aspect where I could see the argument, and I believe this is where these theories come from. That being DefaultTV’s weird compassion towards Teruko, the implication that it “feels” guilt and grief, and it choosing to stop firing at Levi instead of just killing him and Teruko.
However, compassion and remorse over murder aren’t exclusive to Mai Akasaki, and I find it perfectly reasonable to assume those things are a result of DefaultTV being a “default” driver presumably intended for more general, non-killing game purposes, where those “feelings” would actually probably be nice for the AI to have.
As for not killing Levi, it’s important to remember that MonoTV and DefaultTV are always making the conscious decision of not killing everyone. It’s like David said in 2-12; if you just wanted to murder these 16 people, you wouldn’t need the killing game. Mono/DefaultTV’s stated primary goal is not “kill all these people,” but:
Tumblr media
DefaultTV: To run this killing game until the death of every participant.
“Run this killing game.”
The reason letting the attempt to destroy MonoTV go unpunished would go against its purpose is, as I currently understand it, not because it lowers the kill count, but because it would be a threat to the integrity of the killing game. If DefaultTV lets this loophole go, then it sets a precedent that it will always follow the rules to a T, and that encourages the cast to look for further loopholes. Instead, it just needs to show that it’s willing to bend the rules to follow their spirit and not their letter.
That’s why it’s satisfied with warning shots and why it shuts the gun off: it sent the message it needed to send, but DefaultTV killing Levi, who is completely unrelated to the attempt on its life, would go against the spirit and letter of Rule 8, “MonoTV will never directly commit a murder.” Again, always follow the spirit, but show it’s willing to bend the letter to maintain the integrity of the game; “To run this killing game until the death of every participant.”
I hope that made sense :v
Moving on, there’s also logistic problems. Since MonoTV seems to have been created specifically for the killing game, the “possession” theory is incompatible with the theory that the killing game was created in response to Mai’s death, unless we’re pulling a Stitchwraith where Mai first possessed a TV or something and then that got put into the MonoTV body (and that still runs into the issue with the “no soul attached to body” statement). And at this point, one of these seems a bit more likely than the other.
Speaking of, logistical issues also come with the idea that DefaultTV is based off of Mai. Because why would XF-Ture Tech choose to base their default drivers on, quote Min’s Mai quote, “an average girl with nothing special at all about her?” Wouldn’t it make more sense for them to base it off of someone working at the company or otherwise connected to it, such as altDRDT’s XF or even Min?
… Wait, Min… Possession… Min possessing MonoTV… Alright new theory- /j
(To be extremely clear; Min possessing MonoTV is even less likely than Mai, I’m just being silly :p)
There may be even more problems I’m currently not fully realizing, but what I’ve listed is enough for me to consider both theories discussed as highly unlikely at this point in time. Still cool theories and I wouldn’t mind if they got confirmed, but just very unlikely. Would make for fun AUs though!
As an extra, I’ll throw in what I actually think this weird compassion is leading up to, though to be clear it’s pretty wild speculation and will probably be wrong.
I explained before that I believe it makes sense for DefaultTV to be a far more morally upstanding AI than MonoTV, as “default drivers” would presumably be made with more general purposes in mind. It’s also been established in the main series that Whit, someone who I currently believe is very likely to survive or at least make it pretty far in, knows about machine learning.
Tumblr media
Whit: Machine learning! [Charles and I] both like machine learning!
Now, I’m not sure that this is exactly AI in the way DefaultTV and MonoTV seem to be, but it’s close enough. If this Checkov’s Gun is ever to be fired (and Whit isn’t the mastermind), it’s very possible that, around Trial 6, Whit somehow manages to take out the directives that make MonoTV/DefaultTV dangerous, allowing the more compassionate and remorseful side of the AI to help the survivor cast in some way.
Also Charles could do this too but I don’t think he’s making it to the end so. There's option 2 ig.
Is this completely insane and almost entirely unfounded? Yes! Do I expect this to actually happen? I give it like a 5% chance on the high end. Nevertheless, do I consider this to be the best guess we can currently make as to where both Whit’s knowledge of machine learning and DefaultTV’s compassion are going? Also yes, again provided Whit isn’t the mastermind, which is a pretty large assumption in and of itself. Is it much better than MonoTV being possessed by Mai Akasaki? Not really! But if you’re sending me an ask you presumably want my opinions, and there they are!
Thanks for the ask! Very fun to ramble about this goddamn dog.

Normally I avoid angst, but this is good. Like this is really good, Bruse 'the world's greatest detective' failing, just full on fail someone. Also while fics are good with the 'demon twins' liking each other, this is... idk just too good
Their is something missing, what about Danny's ghost half, Phantom, and his rouges and allies. If we are doing vivisection all his rouges and allies would be alive, Vlad taking him to Gotham? Everyone he knows are alive. The main one that is happening is the nasty burger explosion, his human allies are dead (unless Val is an ally in this situation don't believe she died in the explosion) his ghostly rouges should be still kicking, also his rouges aren't black and white, most would help him if possible because that is THEIR ghost boy! Only they are allowed to beat him up. In other words the ghost aren't letting it slide.
Now, Phantom, Danny's' ghost half. How did they remove his ghost half? Do they use the dream catcher from the show, which is unlikely. That leaves a couple options, either blood blossoms, to remove the ghost while leaving the human, surgical removal of the core, gruesome but with this fandom not off the table, or some other painful way OR even worst make it worst, so Danny doesn't know Phantom has been removed until told. Maybe an upgraded Fenton thermos. Also why does no talk about Danny being a halfa, yes half ghost half human, but ectoplasm was written into his DNA, he's a hybrid of an ectoplasmic entity and a living human, not a puzzle their has to be side effects other than loss of humanity and emotions, shally something, maybe health complications or memory loss
So the ghost don't like how their ghost kid/baby pop/ or what ever else they call him, is gone AND had his ghost half removed, they would be mad. But, but, Phantom him self if removed painlessly he would be intake, removed via options that destroy the ectoplasm to make him human, might be erased. I want Phantom to be alive(ghost) so he could do something, maybe get human half some help, either ghost, Vlad if redeemed/alive, or justice league. That would mentally fuck the JL up if they found out Batman removed his own son's soul, plus a magic user, probably Shazam/ Captain Marvel would, say this 'might' be an interdimentional war crime, worthy enough for war from the infinite realms and numerous other after lives.
I have a feeling that the lantern are on friendly relations with the ghost same with magic users, so when they hear what Bruse did, the contingency plans aren't saving him, Daniel Fenton and Daniel Phantom no longer exist, dead, only Danny and Phantom remain, when they explain what Bruse did was, pretty much, killing TWO people and then trying to erase the soul, Bruce is going to be distrot and having a breakdown, he just wanted his kid, he murdered his kid and almost erased his soul, Damian is probably their making some sort of comment about how it would have been better if he did, the magic users and/or lanterns are going to tell and scream how Earth has committed interdimentional war crimes, erasor of a soul is the worst you can do, the infinite realms already have grounds for a war if Danny's and Phantom's soul was erases existence would, disappear, gone back to the primordial chaos that was, another complication is Danny Fenton-Phantom is ghost king but he does not exist any more meaning the ancients will be in charge of the war, they aren't so friendly to humans that harm their kin
...
I don't know what I wrote or if it's good al I know is the original prompt is awesome, same as the other ones added on to it.
Take care.
Gimmie a Danny and Damian twins au, but not one where they're all gushy gushy and huggy huggy about the fact that they're reunited.
I want one, where they HATE and try to KILL EACH OTHER. Where they're extremely fucked up in their relationship with one another, but can't kill the other because Taila hoped that they could get along.
They spew poison at each other, inflict pain on each other as easy as BREATHING and would leave the other while heavily injured while saying that they could take care of themselves.
I want them to be near mortal-enemies wrapped up in the bodies of two highly-competent and powerful 14 year olds who cannot give a fuck about each other, has a fleeting thought of killing the other on the best of days but doesn't because of their dear mommy Taila.
Then force them to interact with each other after a long period of separation. I don't give a flying FUCK how you manage to do it, perhaps Danny has to run because his parents vivisected him, perhaps the Nasty Burger explosion couldn't be reversed because Clockwork said no and Danny is torn or perhaps Vlad brings him to Gotham for a gala (either redeemed or not redeemed Vlad), etc, etc.
Force these two children who fucking HATE each other under the same roof, make them interact, make them watch each other interact and make comments about it. Maybe even make an unstable Danny try and KILL Damian, but is stopped by the batfam, or maybe make it that Danny can't even bring himself to kill Damian because he's (discounting Talia) the only family he has left.
Maybe even (if you go the Nasty Burger/Dead Fenton fam au) make Danny hate Bruce Wayne's fucking GUTS because this man is trying to replace his dead father (even though Bruce IS his biological father) and hates him even MORE because he looks so similar to Jack's face that he's literally torn whenever he sees him. Make it that he never stays in the same room as Bruce whenever he's not in mask, make it that he tells Bruce TO HIS FACE that he hates the man for trying to replace his dead FUCKING dad and that he will NEVER accept him as one, biologically related or not.
Maybe even make him not like the batfam either just for the fact that they associate with both Bruce and Damian.
(I just remembered about that one post I saw, but BOY is this ramble gonna get even WORSE for dear old Danny. Though this part isn't really necessary could just read the on top bit lol)
Maybe they even find a way to take away his ghost side, and Bruce (With or without Talia) say that it's for the best for him, and Danny? Danny just fucking BREAKS. DOWN. He's full-on crying and screaming at Bruce and maybe has to be held back by the other batkids or not, or maybe he's just fulling on trying to hit Bruce and Bruce either dodges or just takes it.
Saying how fucking DARE he take away his ghost side, that was apart of him and he had NO FUCKING RIGHT to take away something so precious from him. Then Bruce could say that he doesn't need powers, he could be fully if not even more capable as a human.
And Danny just goes "You don't even get it, do you?" And Danny just cries harder because technically that was one the LAST things linking him to his parents. His DEAD parents. Sure, the accident was his fault, but phantom was created because of their portal, in their lab, in their basement.
Even worse if the reveal went RIGHT and they starting accepting how he was half ghost and trying to change their views on ghosts as a whole, only to die. Then, for some guy to just, take away something like that from him?
Maybe Danny would even say that, rip into him about how that was one of the only things linking him to his parents and even if it wasn't he didn't have the fucking right to decide what to do with HIS body.
"You never had to fucking worry about your parents not accepting you, I did. They still loved me regardless, they tried to change for me. But you wouldn't even know what that feels like, would you, you stupid fucking rich boy."
[idk why I typed that part out but just role with it.]
Maybe Bruce tries to sympathize with Danny about his parents, but Danny just doesn't have any fucks left to give about Bruce's life, or anyone else life in Bruce's life at all and just shuts it down or steamrolls over it. At the end of it all Danny is just a crying, shivering wreck and stares down Bruce with eyes full of HATE that tells Bruce one step closer, and he would KILL him.
Maybe then Damian (Either walks in or was there the entire time.) insults Danny over his weakness and depending on his ghost form or something, and Danny just sees fucking RED and jumps on him. No care that he's no longer half ghost, so that he means he could die more easily, no care to anyone else in that room, no care that Talia wanted both of them to get along and not kill each other.
He tries to kill Damian.
He fails miserably, of course, but he still tries. Then tries again and a fucking gain.
Then after all that he just, doesn't come out of his room, or tries to escape and leave Gotham every chance he gets. He never gets far, but he keeps trying, and he never opens up to anyone in the batfam, not even Alfred.
He's just a kid who lost everything he worked so hard for, everything he tried to hide from his biological mother and her assassin league who tried to keep whatever he had left. Now that kid is fueled by nothing but pure, revolting hatred for the people who took even that from him.
Basically like Dark Danny, but way more powerless and fully human.
[Okay that's enough of me rambling.]

Goretober Day 2- Gutspill
I’m already back on my bullshit!! Day 2 and it’s time for some guts. Dunno if this is quite what you had in mind, @starrycoffin, but there are still innards here.
Since it’s Blazblue and general terribleness is happening, today is pre-canon with Relius Clover, feat. Valkenhayn! The latter of which, as I have discovered in researching for this, is actually completely awesome and I now love the werewolf grandpa. Though he isn’t quite a grandpa here. This might not necessarily be canon-accurate, but is that really why we’re here in the first place? (also this whole thing feels vaguely gay and I’m not sure why but I’m mad about it anyway)
Additional content warnings for Vivisection, Needles, and just some generally dubious medical practices and ethics (but then again, what do you expect from Relius)
When it came to most people, Valkenhayn was usually quick to determine how he felt about their existence. He definitely wouldn’t deny the existence of his own short temper (though he also felt no drive to apologize for it, either) and oftentimes it was because of that temper that he decided he disliked someone regardless of how much he actually knew them. He didn’t really mind it much. He didn’t want to be surrounded by other people. Things didn’t have to be complicated, he could decide if he had no interest in associating with someone, and then he could be off on his own merry way.
Relius Clover, however, was not like most people.
Valkenhayn wondered if it was simply because of their work association, and how much time they were obligated to spend together. But he knew that wasn’t right. At his core, Valkenhayn knew that Relius wasn’t what most people would call ‘upstanding’ (not like that was much of a turn-off for him, that would just be hypocritical). It was hard not to think strange things of a person who bolted mechanical limbs to his own body for seemingly no reason and masked his eyes, which somehow managed to still notice things better than Valkenhayn himself could. Relius shared a sense of disdain for many of the people around them, but he chose to express it not with heated anger or outright violence, but with gentle tones and a feigned politeness, which lasted all the way through the point where he would inevitably deceive those he disliked and abandon them as soon as he lost a use for them. No matter what, though, Relius always kept himself calm and collected, hardly ever even raising his voice. Relius got what he wanted through sheer brilliance. And even if he regarded those around him with aloof detachment, at least he treated everyone the same. That may have sounded pathetic, but with his history, it was a pleasant surprise for Valkenhayn to find someone who so much as tolerated him, let alone treated him as an equal. He certainly wasn’t anywhere near as brilliant as Relius, but Relius never treated him as though he were subhuman.
The werewolf wasn’t sure if he liked Relius or not. But he certainly admired him. So he didn’t mind listening to what the man had to say, or to assist him in his work when Relius needed more than the usual amount of hands.
“Ah, Valkenhayn, just who I was hoping to see!” He greeted his partner with a smile. In the personal space of his lab, he’d discarded the mask that he wore in a neat pile on the counter. Valkenhayn wouldn’t say that the blank whiteness of his eyes unnerved him, but he could never feel entirely comfortable when he took the mask off.
“What is it, Clover?” He sniffed back, leaning against the doorway. “Why did you want to see me out of nowhere?”
“Yes, and I do apologize for that. You know I don’t like wasting time with frivolous things, and I wouldn’t ask you unless it was important.”
The werewolf scoffed. “Get on with it.”
“Alright, alright.” Relius waved a hand in an attempt to placate him. “I’ve been considering a new biological study. I’d like to...get a better understanding of your anatomy, that is all. Werewolf biology is such a rarely-studied phenomena, I’d love to be able to witness the sorts of changes that go on within you when you transform.”
Valkenhayn felt like he was going to gag. “So, you want to dissect me? And you really think I’d agree to something like that?”
“I have many powerful drugs that would make the process completely painless.” Replied Relius, with a tranquil smile. “I assure you, you’re one of the few people that I care about. I wouldn’t let you expire on my table.”
It wasn’t much of a reassurance. “What’s in it for me?”
“It’s for science, Valkenhayn.” That seemed to be Relius’ favorite phrase. Valkenhayn was prepared to simply scoff and leave, but the scientist managed to outpace him, interrupting his path again.
He wondered if something violent was going to erupt. From experience, he knew that he could put up an even fight against Relius in the strength department. But the man really shined when it came to trickiness, and if there was anywhere that he’d be at a disadvantage, it’d be his own lab. His best hope would be to try and run as fast as possible, either ditching Relius entirely or luring him out into the woods where they’d be on more even footing.
Any and all of his half-thunk schemes vanished with the feeling of a gloved hand brushing against his cheek with the sort of care that he’d never experienced before.
“You really are something special, Valkenhayn.” The man’s eyes were as blank as they ever were, but Valkenhayn still felt as though they were boring into his. “Beautiful. Majestic. I wouldn’t dare destroy something so unique.”
Beautiful? He’d never thought of himself that way. He’d been taught to think that he was something filthy and dirty. Relius couldn’t have really meant it, could he?
Despite himself, Valkenhayn leaned into the warm touch, and let his eyes close. Before he realized it, something cold was wrapping itself around his limbs, pinning them in place.
His eyes flew open. “R-Relius! What is the meaning of- !!”
“Calm yourself.” With a flick of his wrist, the metal limbs lifted Valkenhayn clean off the ground and carried him over to Relus’ examination table. The metal felt even colder on his back, but the machine parts offered no sympathy, merely continuing to hold him down until the leather bindings were in place. “Rest assured, I am merely doing this to keep you from moving and injuring yourself while I work.”
Valkenhayn wasn’t sure if he understood, but he didn’t have much of a choice at that point. He squirmed uncomfortably on the table, irritated but not unbearably so, at least until the limbs came back and got to work unbuttoning his shirt.
“What are you doing?!”
“Well, I can’t exactly do a dissection without being able to reach your skin, can I?” The scientist laughed as he stood back up from his workbench. A syringe was retrieved from his cape, and he jabbed the tip into the man’s side. Valkenhayn didn’t even flinch. He’d felt far worse.
“It should kick in momentarily. You won’t feel entirely numb, but it will be enough to mask the pain in the areas I’m going to look at.”
Valkenhayn asked himself how he’d managed to get into such a predicament. He’d be more concerned if he wasn’t already familiar with Relius’ proficiency with a knife. There were more than a few scars that had avoided marring his body only because of Relius’ careful needlework.
The chill on his back quickly faded, though he could still feel it brushing against his legs. He watched Relius survey his wide collection of tools as though they were fine art, ultimately selecting a long scalpel before returning to the table.
For a moment, he could swear that Relius’ fingers twitched in anticipation. But it vanished just as quickly, and the cold metal brushed his arm skin, the scalpel’s tip coming to rest on his collarbone.
“I want to know everything about you.”
He heard more than felt the first puncture into the flesh of his shoulder. Of course it didn’t hurt, but it was peculiar to witness the sight of a blade cleanly cutting through his tanned skin, trailed behind by a thin line of blood as it began to seep out.
“Creating an incision from the right scapular region to the xiphoid process...incision from the left scapular to the xiphoid, joining incisions over the midsagittal plane...extending incision from the xiphoid to the pubic region.”
He didn’t understand why Relius was speaking as he worked. Valkenhayn didn’t understand most of what he was saying. He couldn’t tell if it was the drug, or simply Relius’ tone, but his voice was almost hypnotic as he spoke. Any oddness that he may have felt from the painless feeling of his body being cut open was swept away by the scientist’s calm, smooth words. If Relius was here, then he knew he would be alright.
“Opening incision site, removing obstructive viscera.”
His skin made a wet sound as it was peeled away. Mechanical arms held the flaps apart in place, allowing Relius to look over the various organs and structures within.
“I see. Your insides are remarkably...normal. It appears there is little physical difference between a humanoid lycanthrope and a typical human adult. Alright, now change shape.”
Valkenhayn blinked at the sheer suddenness of it. “You-”
“Do as I say.” In a split-second, the cool calmness froze over into an icy sharpness. Even if he didn’t have any control over his transformation, Valkenhayn was very sure that he would have done so, just from the sound of his command.
The physical sensation was a relief of some sort. Valkenhayn could feel his skin hardening and darkening, sprouting fur on every inch of his body. The warmth shielded him from the cold of the table. The leather shackles strained under the new size of his limbs, but they held tight. He found himself unexpectedly Dizzy, slumping back against the table as the room seemed to spin around him.
“Beautiful…” Relius whispered, tracing the arc of the ribcage as the muscles swelled underneath it. “Valkenhayn, you’re beautiful…”
The wolf’s eyes were unfocused. Relius wasn’t sure if he was all there at the moment, but it didn’t stop him from continuing his studies. The cuts gushed an odd-colored blood, but the mechanical arms were dutifully wiping up the mess, so he could have his organic arms to himself. He buried his hands in the tangles of maroon intestines, following the curves and udulations until he moved onto the liver, the pancreas, the spleen, stomach, diaphragm. The lungs were stiffer than he expected, darker and harder. Twisted between the ileum and the jejunum was a completely alien organ that Relius couldn’t even recognize.
Of course, that just meant that he needed to hurry along in his work. There was only so much that could be learned just by looking at the outside.
“R-Relius…” Valkenhayn coughed on his own spit, squirming on the table.
“Relax.” He replied, picking up a gleaming saw. “You won’t feel a thing.”
