Look, I don't care how fantasy names are "supposed to be pronounced". Maybe that's how they're pronounced in the version of the story that lives in your head, but these characters live in my head and in my head you're the one pronouncing them wrong. What do you mean "there's a pronunciation guide at the back of the book"? There is only the story. There is nothing else. Your imaginary friends can pronounce their names however you want, but I'm not renaming mine.
#unpopular opinion#They are fictional characters with fictional names#unless it's actually relevant to the text and written into it then Idgaf#Qd#just to note: this applies to fantasy/sci-fi/purely made-up names only#if the names are real cultural names that existed outside of the story first#you're allowed to correct pronunciation#though under the proviso that it's not the real world so real world pronunciation doesn't technically apply#but if it's a made-up fantasy name then even if there's a pronunciation guide I do not care#i seriously don't read that#i rarely read any supplemental stuff or appendices#like I rarely watch behind the scenes stuff#except for Lord of the Rings#I love those appendices#and maps#but mostly as art#i don't use them as reference material unless I get completely lost#kind of like in real life
