It happened again 👀
This time, I was prepared, though, so I only lost half a chapter's worth of progress. The back-up of the most recent save also produced an empty game file, so it must have been messed up before I even copied it over, which I did literally right after I closed the game last night.
The previous save thankfully turned out to be okay so that put me back at the beginning of this current chapter (and I didn't get very far in this before, so that's good at least).
But this is supremely weird. I've made my way through the dev's/publisher's various social media accounts and homepages and eventually found out where to send an ask to about this, so I did. Not holding out much hope that anything is gonna come of it, but I'm just curious as hell what's causing this. It might be a problem specific to this version which is a PS4 port from the original PC version and so far I haven't seen anyone who's had this problem there.
I wish I could at least pinpoint if it's anything specific I'm doing that results in this, so I could avoid it and play in peace. I still want to play it, because there's still so many story paths to unlock and I'm actually having a lot of fun with it. I haven't even seen the true ending yet lol.
The question is, am I going to continue traversing a minefield or am I going to hope for a discount during a steam sale and get it there again, in the hopes that the issue just doesn't exist there? ...Strangely? Right now? It would annoy me more to have to buy it again instead of continuing with what I have and trying to find patterns in the minefield that can help me mostly avoid the mines, if that makes any sense? 🙈😅
I'm also just itching to know why this is happening?? I hate not knowing. I like knowing how shit works and why it doesn't work. Like. This is not a small bug. Game data getting completely wiped, on not one singular but now already two separate occasions, leaving you with a game that looks like you never even played it, all progress gone? This is one of those things that should never, ever, ever be possible to happen in your game. Ever. Unless there's a big red button that says 'Click me to reset your progress to zero, do at your own risk'. In that case, it's exactly what's supposed to happen. But this game doesn't have a button like that. It still seems to randomly press it, though, which is a problem lol
I- 😶 I'm currently playing a horror visual novel and I just started the game to continue my 2nd playthrough and all of my save data is just. Gone. 👀
Checked my System Storage/Application Save Data Management thingy and, sure enough, there's nothing there. It's as if I never played the game. Not exactly what I had in mind for the horror element of the game lol
It's extra dumb because I do regularly back up my save files but for some reason, I never once backed them up after I started this game 🤦♀️
The only saving grace in this scenario is that it's a niche game so there's not a lot of info about it out there, so after my first PT I randomly decided to make it my nerd project to map out the entire tree branch of the story and all the different choices and how to unlock side branches and gallery entries and such (and make it look pretty for me ☺️).
I mapped out the skeleton of the trees of each chapter in Excel, with icons and everything, it was super fun 😄, and then made a copy of each and filled in the path I took during the 1st PT.
Starting with the 2nd PT, I filled in story info, path trigger conditions, etc. and, thankfully (oh my god, thankfully) made a second copy and filled in my path for the 2nd PT whenever I finished a chapter. So I actually have my entire first and the first 4 chapters of the 2nd PT mapped out (and ch.5 is fresh enough that I remember most of what I chose and how far I got yesterday). I know exactly what I did, and for everything from the 2nd PT plus the parts from the first that overlap I also have all the trigger conditions, so I know how to fill in all the nodes there.
Ironically, I was paranoid enough about potentially losing the excel file that I did in fact back it up every day before I turned of the computer 😅
This is gonna make getting the save file back to exactly where I was very easy, it's just gonna take time. Time that I'd wanted to spend on the 2nd half of chapter 5 today, but yeah, well 🙈
I'm so glad I did this, otherwise my frustration would be a million times higher now. Like this I'm more focused on my utter confusion as to why this happened in the first place. Saving works really fast, so it's almost impossible to turn off the game while it saves, plus I always wait a moment before I quit the game. And I was looking through the gallery before I turned it off completely last night. As far as I'm aware there is zero reason for this. I sure as hell am going to back the fuck out of my saves from now on, though, that much is certain. I'm off to retrace my steps now, I guess 🙈
#I'm still weirdly more curious than annoyed#I could theoretically exactly reproduce the path I took in the part of this chapter that I lost#including where I made saves and reloaded the game#and then save in exactly the same spot and quit the game like I did before and see what happens#is it gonna get messed up again?#was it something I did during that chapter?#was it that one slightly glitchy gallery that I looked at before I closed the game?#that - coincidentally - I looked at only before the two times my data ended up being wiped and at literally no other time?#correlation is not causation but if it were that could I reproduce it? 🤔#I have so many questions#and I kinda wanna try to find me some anwers#even though it may well be something I cannot answer without looking at the actual code#slskdksl I wanna KNOW 🙈#just me rambling#video games

Review: SPELUNKY 2 (2020)
Few things in the Year of the Apocalypse have brought us joy; once upon a time back in February, there was something about a Sonic the Hedgehog movie that people actually liked, and then we went full-on deep into madness. From there it was disappointment after disappointment; even an unstoppable giant with hype, The Last of Us: Part II fell apart under fan scrutiny despite huge critical success.
But then, there was light: Fall Guys, a true underdog of a game, released and swept the internet and gaming as a whole with excitement. Joyous, colorful, wild, aggravating, Fall Guys single-handed brought catharsis to a series of unfortunate events, followed by a masterpiece of deception, Among Us. Also capturing colorful characters in the most unlikely of situations, Among Us is the game of Secret Hitler that nobody knew they wanted, ruining friendships along the way -- a game I plan to do a write-up on soon. And yet, we still have another gem to consider now, one which is seven years in the making, and against all odds is just as good -- if not better -- than it’s predecessor: Spelunky 2.
Once upon a time, a developer named Derek Yu released a pixellated exploration game that was a love letter to Pitfall and Indiana Jones. Dubbed Spelunky, it followed the trials and tribulations of the Spelunky Guy as he dove headfirst into a series of ever-changing caverns as he explored mines, jungles, icy caves, and Egyptian ruins to discover the City of Gold. It was released free online, and was well-received enough for Yu to work on an upgraded version, Spelunky HD. Gone were the retro pixels, replaced with detailed cartoon art and vibrant atmosphere. Telling the same story with the same levels, only now realized in higher quality and deeper secrets, Spelunky HD helped create the roguelike genre, in which players start at the beginning of a game with nothing, slowly make their way through the game amassing items and weapons to assist them, but death takes them all the way back to the beginning pockets empty. Then, the game randomly generates a new series of levels for the player to try again, ensuring no two runs are ever the same. For some this is frustrating, for others an endearing challenge. Many have spent hours diving deep into the game, searching over and over for its most hidden secrets, discovering hidden paths and endings only achieved through insanely difficult methods. With that game cemented as a bona fide masterpiece, it seemed daunting to even consider a follow up, but Yu and development team Mossmouth have done it once more with Spelunky 2, a game that feels tighter, plays looser, and somehow holds even more secrets than the first game, partially due in part to the sequel having actual lore to follow and a story that literally is out of this world. Here the protagonist is Ana Spelunky, daughter of Guy Spelunky (the titular Spelunky Guy....the game is full of dad jokes like these), as she followers her adventurous father and mother to the moon as they have disappeared there. Turns out the Olmec guardian defeated in the first game also has a presence on Earth’s satellite, and the Spelunkys have vanished in their quest to research this. So Ana, full of spunk and vigor and dog Monty in tow, steps into the spotlight on a completely new adventure, along with completely new friends.
Where the first game gave players options to discover and unlock new characters during the course of the game, Spelunky 2 treats these side characters as actual companions. A base camp at the start shows life and livelihood where everyone beds down and preps for the next expedition, where shortcuts to different stages can be traversed (once properly unlocked) and dialogue can be had. There’s a simple joy just to stand around and see everyone you’ve unlocked hanging out, walking around, as more and more beds occupy the camp. It’s a very subtle way of showing player progress that is both incredibly rewarding and relieving. And for the most part, it’s the same essence of gameplay. Explore levels filled with creatures out to kill you, while collecting gold and rescuing animals. Gold can buy resources from the shops located in the levels, animals give you a kiss for extra health, but only if they make it to the end alive. Meanwhile, the areas are loaded with traps, bombs, hidden monsters, jars filled with any number of surprises, and bonus areas that can be unlocked with the proper use of a rope or a bomb. But tarry too long and the ghost that haunts this world will reveal itself, slowly stalking you until either you reach the end of the level or there’s nowhere else to run.
Differences with the new game come in gentle shocks: for starters, where the first game had a linear progression this one has multiple pathways that can be taken to get to the end. And minibosses! Journeying through the opening caves, divided into four sections, leads to a confrontation against a giant caveman named Quillback in World 1-4, which leads to a pair of doors, one on either side of the level. First time playing through might lead to discovering one of the doors due to the way they’re split apart, but casual exploration to the opposite side reveals the truth: a whole new world. One door leads to Volcana, the underground mining operation in a volcano, the other leads to the Jungle, which has received deadly upgrades from it’s previous life. Spelunky 2 is littered with these gentle shocks as I mentioned above: golden idols still set off traps when picked up, but the traps now vary from falling pillars to explosive lava to spiked walls. Beyond the Jungle and Volcana lies a boss fight with Olmec, making a surprise appearance early in the game. And from here the game moves ever onward, revealing new areas, new characters to unlock, new surprises. And the surprises are telegraphed even better than they were in the first game. For example: unlock a special box with a golden key in the Caves to gather the Eye of Udjat, which lets you see through the floor. But the Eye can also be used to start up the Drill in Volcana, the only way to power it. What happens when you use the drill? Gentle shocks, indeed. New ideas also include mounts to ride (once tamed, which can leave you vulnerable for a moment while you wait for the ride to settle), each one having a different attack or special ability, and brand new shops which can let you into their back rooms to loot...unless you have a skeleton key and you want to risk pissing them off by breaking and entering. But pissing off a shopkeeper usually results in guns blazing your direction, and the imminent threat of death.
Death is in abundance. The game knows it, you know it, the characters know it. With a premise around the idea that death is impermanent while inside the tunnels of the moon, it becomes eventual that the characters get in on the act. Turning the page in Ana’s journal on the game over screen reveals little thoughts of hers on this leg of the journey: from base facts such as when she first took damage, to giggly details like “I was vegan” (referring to the fact that she didn’t eat any turkeys or -- god help us -- cavemen for extra health), the game brims over with character aplenty. Even certain guardians refer to Ana as “Reborn” nodding to the endless cycle. And, in fact, it is endless: it keeps going and going and going until eventually there is the final level and the escape from the moon. But how long will it take to get there? What sacrifices must be made to make it that far? How many loops, deaths, rebirths? As always with Spelunky, there is gold both figurative and literal to be mined from the ruthless exploration. Secrets are deep and wide, surprises await around every corner (was that a LEPRECHAUN and did it drop a FOUR LEAF CLOVER??? And did that ghost just sPLIT into FOUr???), and all of it is rewarding.
It can be difficult to review a game that I haven’t finished. A lot of Spelunky players have never finished the game. There’s a certain finesse to it, watching speedrunners bounce through levels undaunted, gathering miracle items to assist them. Then there’s players like me, that bumble and stumble their way into lucky runs and slowly earn shortcuts to different worlds. It’s a gamble every single time, and sometimes I wonder why I do it, but the charm and the fun and the fist-pumping feeling of success against all odds is what makes this game so much fun. And to think that Mossmouth not only captured the feeling of the first game, the majesty of it, and renewed all of that magic with the second. Someone made a blood sacrifice to craft this game, that much is for sure. As of this writing, the Playstation 4 version has been out for a few weeks, and the PC version for only a few days. After playing both I can confirm that they are precise, concise, and play exactly the same, although I do feel I had slightly better control response times on the PC. That said, online co-op is not yet available for PC, as Mossmouth is going over that aspect with a fine toothed comb. Having playing online day one for the PS4, I can say that the hiccups experienced then will be best served through Mossmouth’s attention first. Online play has become much smoother since, but players deserve the best experience off the jump.
Spelunky 2 is mana from heaven in these trying times, and I’m gobbling as much of it as I can. And when a game like this is is this deep and wide, there’s a lot to gobble...and all of it is tasty.
Final Score: 9/10

The More You Know || Orion and Winston
Winston wasn’t sure how to take Orion right now. They were sure that they were being lied to about a good number of things but Winston was trying their hardest not to judge them because they knew that they were in a very difficult situation. Instead, they were trying to keep them occupied and busy. Ricky was out currently, and Winston had decided that it was time to introduce Orion to the pleasures of having pretty much every sort of gaming available that you could possibly once. “So, you gamed much before? Are you like a hardcore gamer? Do you hate games and everything about them? Give me some context here dude.”
Things were still a bit awkward around the house. Not from lack of trying on Winston or Ricky’s part. They had practically bent over backwards trying to make the place as accommodating and welcoming as they could to Orion. Made him food, cleared out a bedroom for him, offered to help move his things. They were even planning a whole day around an ikea trip to get him some necessities. And yet.... well Rio was an awkward person. Around everyone. So it was hard to settle into this new environment that he was supposed to be calling home. Plus, it didn’t help that he still had to lie about so much. “Gaming? Oh yeah. I game a lot.” He smiled, blinking away from his train of thoughts to focus on Winston speaking. “I played handheld games more when I was a kid. I never had a console. But now I game a lot on the PC.” He scratches at the back of his head nervously. “I’ve been super into like RPG’s. Trying to work my way through the Final Fantasy series. What about you? What do you like to play?”
Winston got it. This must have been awkward enough for them as it was and they were sure that being nice to them didn’t make it any better. But they had to try and get them to settle in as best they could. “Fuck yes dude,” Winston replied with a bright smile, “so we’ve got the PS4 for like entertaining and just hanging out, if we need to relax and get out of our bedrooms and all that good shit. It’s got like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, it’s also got a VPN app I wrote on it that lets you change regions but keep that on the downlow because it isn’t technically legal and I work for the police.” Winston kept going as they made their way to the kitchen looking for snacks. “I play a shit tonne of PC games, mostly League and Overwatch, but I’ve been playing a bit more WoW recently because that is always a good time. I’m down for RPGs, me and Ricky have been playing Monster Hunter and obviously the classics like Skyrim and Witcher 3. We’ll have to get your PC set up and hardwired in when we bring it over.”
Orion laughed, “That’s an impressive set up, but don’t worry your secret's safe with me.” They really did have like the ideal set up going on in this house. It was basically an all inclusive bachelor pad. All it was missing was a bunch of gratuitous sports paraphernalia hanging around the place. Orion wasn’t sure that either of them seemed to like the type to be into sports but Orion wasn’t sure. Orion was perched on the living room couch and turned to continue listening to Winston as they were talking about the games they played. “Nice. I am not great at any shooting games, but I’m sure they’re super fun. Especially if you have someone else to play them with. He eventually pushed himself off the couch and made his way into the kitchen also, grabbing a cup to fill up a glass of water. “What are you up to play right now?”
Rummaging through the shelves and cupboards of their kitchen, Winston found a few snacks that they could give to Rio. Chips, doughnuts, some cookies and then a bunch of fruit that they bought because Ricky didn’t really eat anything that was not full to brim with meat or fish. “Hey, when you’re playing a video game you should just enjoy whatever you’re playing,” Winston gamed to relax, not for any other reason. “Uh, I don’t really mind, we can play whatever you like or I can try and find something that’s just good fun if you want to kill time.” Winston grabbed the snacks and made their way over to the lounge, placing everything on a coffee table. “Uh, there’s snacks if you want something, I don’t think I can be bothered to actually make real food unless you’re dying from hunger, but help yourself. Me casa su casa right?”
Winston gathered a collection of snacks together to take over to the living room area, which Orion appreciated. “Yeah, definitely. I tend to enjoy more strategy or puzzle games but I think I could enjoy most games.” Maybe he had never really enjoyed shooting games because he had been playing them alone. Any game was probably more fun while playing with friends. “Oh no worries. I love snack foods.” Most days, they were his entire meal if he was at the Scribe Headquarters. He had weighed the pros and cons of going home for food or just eating whatever he had stashed at the abandoned building. The junk food usually won out. “I’m cool with whatever. Or I can just watch you play something, that’s cool too. I’ve never really had friends that were also into gaming.” Orion shrugged, trying to be as honest as possible. Considering all the other lies, he at least owed that to Winston, right? They had gathered a pretty good collection of snacks at the coffee table, so Rio didn’t really need to worry about grabbing his own, opting instead to take a drink of his water and grabbing a cookie from the platter on the counter. He took a bite of it, noticing the semi familiar taste. Curiously, he noticed a note tucked slightly under the tray, and peaked down to get a better look at it. Once he glanced at the sender of the note, the cookie immediately caught on his throat and he began coughing, spitting the cookie out in the process. His coughing fit continued for at least a minute before he finally swallowed the entire glass of water and cleared his throat. “Where’d these cookies come from?” He yelled over to Winston, trying to make the question sound more calmly curious rather than frantic.
Everything was going well, Winston was about to suggest that they give something like Crash Team Racing a go, a nice middle of the road game for them to bond over. But then Orion was biting into a cookie and shouting at them. “Uh, someone that I’m …” Winston wanted to say seeing but they weren’t sure that was entirely true just yet, “Uh I don’t know, a friend I guess was hanging out with me earlier in the week and she left them here and you know I had them left over and Ricky doesn’t really eat cookies,” Winston was sweating slightly now. Was Orion deathly allergic to something that had been in the cookies? “Are you allergic to something in the cookies, I don’t have an epi pen or anything but if you’re allergic then you’ve got to have one right? Rio do I need to get your epipen or do I need to take you to the hospital?” Winston couldn’t understand how they hadn’t thought of this, of course they were trying to poison their new roommate in the first few days of him actually being there.
“No, no I’m not allergic to anything.Just got caught in my throat.” Orion answered once he was finished chugging his glass of water. It was just any other cookie, but for whatever reason it tasted almost acidic in his mouth now. That was all just in his head clearly. A trick of the mind making the food taste worse than it was just because the person who baked it left a bad taste in his mouth. Though Rio wouldn’t have been especially surprised if she had made poisonous cookies, but she wouldn’t do that to Winston. He was a human, harmless. If she was testing him, she wouldn’t have left it at the door with a note. She’d want to see it for herself. Plus, it wasn’t easy to lace cookies with silver. “I-uh” he didn’t know how to approach this. He reached for the note, swiping it from the counter and reading it fully this time, eventually holding it out towards Winston. Not that they could read it from that far away most likely, but he wanted to get the message across. “Did uh- is this the note that came with the cookies?” He asked. His anxiety was practically having a field day in his brain right now, but besides a crack or two in his voice, he was remaining relatively calm. Faking a relationship with his sister had become one of his specialties after all. “That was nice of her… so you’re friends with Athena? Athena Quinn?” Rio questioned, emphasizing the last name and laughing nervously. “I didn’t know you knew my sister.”
Winston winced at the note, they weren’t exactly eager for Orion to find out about Athena in that way. They hadn’t even really told Ricky that much about her and for a good reason. “Uh, yeah, the note came with the cookies…” Winston was very aware about it saying something about enjoying the last night and they were really not a huge fan of the way that Orion was looking at them. Swallowing, their entire reality slowly began crashing down around Winston. “Athena … as in … she’s your … oh fuck … I knew she was a hunter but I didn’t realise that you two were related …” shaking their head, Winston looked up at Orion awkwardly. Looked at the scab on his lip that was mostly healed now. They’d known Orion was a hunter because of Skye, but that had never been an issue for Winston. Just because you were born a hunter didn’t mean that you were a bad person. But … had Athena done that to her own brother. “Orion I swear I didn’t actually know that you two were related, we never exactly exchanged last names and it isn’t like we’ve really … did she do that to your lip and your parents are her parents?” She knew where Winston lived. “It’s fine, I can … I uh … uh….” they were sweating now, unsure of what exactly they were meant to say or do here. “I didn’t know…”
Orion had remained calm up until now. He didn’t want to make it seem like a big deal. In some ways, it wasn’t a big deal, he supposed. It wasn’t Rio’s business who Athena or Winston slept with. Or dated. Or whatever was happening. But still… it was, well most people didn’t know Athena like he did. She was scary good at the facade that she put on, and most people fell for it hook, line and sinker. “Wait.. What?” The calm demeanor lost all traction when Winston mentioned hunter. “You knew she was a hunter?” Oh no. That meant he knew that Rio was a hunter. Or- he wasn’t a hunter but he was technically one. Winston needed to know that. “It’s not- I’m not.” He sighed. This was impossible. If Ricky knew… and before they even had the conversation about Rio knowing that Ricky wasn’t entirely human… this wasn’t good. “It’s- it’s not a big deal.” He forced himself to calm down, to take a deep breath and remain nonchalant about the situation, “I don’t control who my sister sees. That would be creepy.” He laughed, scratching at the back of his head nervously. Talking about his family always made his arms itch. He crossed his arms over his chest and gently scratched at them through his hoodie sleeves. “It was training. I wasn’t lying about that. I just lost focus and she got a good swing in.” Which was true. How did Rio get Winston to realize that his sister was crazy insane without actually disclosing just how crazy insane she was? “Like I said. She’s intense. If you know- well if you like know know. Then you know that too.”
Raising an eyebrow gently, Winston shrugged. “We met fighting vampires Rio, it was pretty obvious that she wasn’t just your run of the mill regular human, besides, no offence but Skylar and I talked about you before I offered you a spot, I’ve known you’re a hunter too for a while. But I don’t get this shit that everyone complains about, it isn’t about who you are or what you are, it is about what YOU do. You obviously aren’t going around killing anyone but biologically if she is it makes sense…” Winston would rather talk about Orion then Athena. How could she have hurt her own sibling like that? Had Winston misjudged her? They weren’t sure. “Ricky doesn’t know, unless Skylar told him, but I don’t think they exactly talk a lot for reasons I can’t really explain but I didn’t think it was my place to tell him your secret…” they swallowed gently thinking about their own secret. “I won’t have her here, if you … you know, if you don’t want her to know the truth about where you are … is she not cool with you coming out too?” Winston knew it was kind of wrong to test that story now, but they wanted the whole truth before they talked to Athena. “I know she’s intense and she obviously is actively out there … well at least killing vampires, she said she only hurts things that hurt other people but that is remarkably arbitrary but at the same time I’m not sure it is my place to judge and now I’m rambling about your sister which I’m sure you don’t want to hear and I know you don’t control her or what she does but I just want you to know that your safety comes first here, Athena’s really nice but your place here comes first…” they fell silent and grabbed a cookie, using the food to silence themselves as they tried to think about what they were going to ask next.
Orion stayed silent the whole time that Winston talked, and blinked surprisingly once the rant was over. “Uh” he began, trying to get everything in order before figuring out how to respond. Winston’s ability to incoherently babble definitely rivaled Rio’s. It was actually pretty heartwarming, know that Rio wasn’t the only one that did it. Plus, he liked having more in common with Winston, he liked them a lot. “Hold on let me think.” There was a lot to unpack in Winston’s monologue. Winston knew about Rio being a hunter. Had for a while, and yet he wasn’t afraid of him? Winston was a human, so Rio supposed he wouldn’t have that fear of death. Also, Skylar and Ricky knew each other, but weren’t talking much anymore. Could this have anything to do with the Selkie thing? Rio knew about Skylar, but had only theorized about Ricky. He hadn’t exactly proven anything or approached Ricky about it. He had learned his lesson from Skylar. Invasion of privacy, not so cool. “I’m not a killer.” Was the first thing that he wanted to make clear, “And Ricky can’t know about it. I’m not even a hunter. I mean I am technically. I was born with the abilities. But I would never hurt anyone.” But what did that make Athena? Until a couple of days ago, Rio had accepted that his sister was just like his parents. A lost cause. But he saw something the other day. A hesitation. She wasn’t a good person, Rio knew that. But maybe she was still a victim after all. “She can’t know where I am. It’s- She wouldn’t hurt me, okay? Not like that at least. But she would tell my parents. And they cannot know.” This was a mistake. Maybe he should leave. The Scribe Headquarters would work for now. Maybe Alain would let him sleep in one of the cars at the garage. Was that unfeasible? He couldn’t believe that Athena had told Winston about what she did. She must actually… like them? Rio wasn’t sure she was capable of that, but Winston was here as proof. And despite the fear and anxiety that came with the fact that Athena had crept her way into one of Rio’s friendships, he hated that twinge of jealousy that he felt in his gut. It wasn’t his place to feel jealous about their relationship. It wasn’t even his business to know about it. “I don’t- I’m not telling you to not hang out with her. I wouldn’t do that. I’m just-” What was he? What did he want to say? This was a disaster. “She doesn’t know. About the coming out part. I mean I think she knows. There was this guy that I used to have a crush on. I never told anyone but Athena just.. Knew. She would always tease me about him, talk about him whenever she hung out with him.” Rio felt gross just thinking about it. She had mostly meant it harmlessly, like the rest of the harassment he supposed. “I’m just surprised I guess. I didn’t expect you two to know each other. She must have really grown from her high school bullying days.”
Head still completely whizzing, Winston tried to calm down and think clearly. Orion’s request for a respite was a welcome break and Winston was pleased that they could their own thoughts coherent. They needed to talk to Athena and find out what was going on, because they didn’t feel like they had the whole story here. But now wasn’t the time to work out that part. Now was the time to be there for Rio. Suddenly Winston wanted to know everything. Most of all they wanted to know why both Rio and Athena seemed to have such different perspectives about their parents. She hadn’t seemed nearly as affected by them as he was. “Of course not, I never even imagined that you would be one,” Winston paused and tried to think of the best way to say it, “no offence but you don’t really strike me as the type to go looking for a fight.” They frowned gently at the insistence that Ricky couldn’t no. “No offense dude, but Ricky gets it, he will work it out eventually and then he’ll feel betrayed you didn’t tell him, you don’t have to do anything and considering that this is your secret to tell I would never dream of telling him, but he deserves to know…” they sighed gently, how had they gotten themselves into such a mess. The number one rule with roommates is that you didn’t sleep with SOs, relatives or friends. So of course Winston had already done that. The worst part was that Winston didn’t exactly get a lot of opportunity to sleep around and yet here they were fucking it up the first time they tried it. But it didn’t really change the way about how they felt with Athena. “I won’t tell her that you’re here,” Winston replied, “I won’t lie to her but I won’t tell her anything either and if she does try and come round well then Dee can get very grumpy with trespasers and she’s remarkably good at missing by a few inches with that shotgun…” Winston was sure that it wouldn’t come to that. Athena wasn’t as terrible as Rio seemed to think that she was. Winston didn’t need to hear them say it to see the anxiety and apprehension in his voice. “Look, me and Athena need to talk, about well this. I won’t make you any promises about anything, because first of all don’t make promises because fae and second of all … wait bullying?” Winston frowned at the last part of the sentence that Orion had just said. “She’s not a bully, at least she hasn’t seemed like she is a bully…?”
This wasn’t going well. The last thing that Orion wanted to do was get in the way of any of Winston’s relationships. At the same time.. He also cared about Winston. A lot, actually. He didn’t want them making a mistake. Dating Athena was a mistake. Even if by some miracle, Orion was wrong about Athena and she did actually care for Winston, Athena was too into her duty. Orion was sure that his parents would settle for no less than building a hunter family of their own. They wouldn’t support someone like Winston, not when people like Adam existed. And Athena wouldn’t disobey their parents. It was a doomed relationship from the start. Orion just needed to remind himself that that wasn’t his business to get in between. Right? This was too complicated. Rio detoured for a minute. “I can’t tell Ricky! Not when-” Right, Winston probably knew what Ricky was. But Winston didn’t know that Rio thought he knew too. And Ricky didn’t know that Rio knew. This was too complicated. How did he explain that Rio’s specialty was supposedly killing shapeshifters just like Ricky? That if the situation were flipped, Rio couldn’t trust any hunter. Not after the evils he had seen. “He’ll think I’m a monster.” Maybe he was a monster. Whether or not he had killed anyone, he knew people that had been killed. Had watched it. And had never been able to stop any of them. He sighed a breath of relief. The last thing he needed was Athena to show up, so at least that part was cleared up. “Thank you. And I understand. You have to figure things out for yourself.” He knew about Fae. He wondered if that was information that Athena had passed along to him? She held a special disdain for Fae, and had already yelled at Rio multiple times for making promises. “Huh? Oh it’s probably not a big deal. I’m sure she’s grown out of it. It’s just…” He paused, trying to find the right way to phrase it. “Back in high school, she had some uh… well she liked to mess with people. Me, obviously but that’s more sibling stuff. Her main target was this girl in our class, the valedictorian. I didn’t talk to her much in high school, but Athena loved making her life miserable. I ran into Blanche and drove her home one night a couple months ago and she told me about it.” So much for not getting involved.
“What exactly do you think Ricky is?” Winston asked curiously, they weren’t interested in playing the game of cloak and daggers that being supernaturally inclined sometimes required you to play. “Ricky isn’t the type to judge someone because of what they are or who they are, they judge people for their actions. That’s always how they have treated me and you’ve given no one any reason to think you’re a monster. Have you ever actually hurt anything? I had to kill some vampires last month, I am probably more of a monster then you are…” not to mention the whole part of being a spellcaster that Winston was kind of holding out on Orion with… they swallowed another mouthful of cookie. Somehow they didn’t taste quite as good now that they were starting to find out more about Athena. But the next words that Rio would say would send fury and anger through Winston. Blanche had become a very close and important friend, confident and honestly so much more. Nell and Blanche and Winston had all come together and were supporting each other through this. Blanche had mentioned high school, they had mentioned the video and suddenly Winston found themselves shaking with fury. They set their cookie down which had been jiggiling about as their hand shook. “Athena was the one who made Blanche’s life hell?” Winston had clearly misjudged her, they had clearly not known better. Part of them wondered if they had been naive and innocent but another part of them wondered if maybe Athena had changed. “Thank you for telling me Rio, like, I know you don’t want to fuck with your sisters life and relationships but I didn’t know any of this, I honestly just met Athena and I didn’t know that she was like … well this.”
“I- I don’t know exactly. I don’t care what he is.” Orion sighed. He wasn’t lying. Despite what the Quinn family groupmind always tried to tell him, Rio thought of most supernatural creatures as still human in a lot of cases. Vampires and werewolves were human. Just because they died or because they could change into werewolves didn’t change that. Sure, Selkie’s were a little different. Just like Fae, their true form wasn’t human. But they still had thoughts and feelings and people they cared for. Sure, Rio was pretty sure he knew what Ricky was, but at the end of the day it really didn’t matter. “I just-” Winston had killed a vampire? Rio had to wonder what kind of vampire. Had Athena been there? Had she encouraged him to do it? The mere thought made Rio’s stomach turn. “I’ve been there. When something has gotten hurt. And I wasn’t able to help and I-” He stopped himself before he went too deep. If he didn’t, Winston would be trying to stop him from sobbing uncontrollably on the floor. The last thing he wanted right now was a panic attack. “You’re not a monster. Whatever happened- I’m sure you had a reason. You’re like the nicest person I’ve ever met.” Orion answered honestly. Maybe this honesty thing wasn’t so bad. But if that was the case, why were his arms still tingling? “She wasn’t the only one. I mean… Blanche had it rough in high school. A lot of people were mean to her until she started fighting back.” He could feel the shift in the room. As Winston flipped to anger. That was the emotion that people should feel for Athena. But it still felt wrong, being involved. “I’m sorry. It’s- well it's honestly not my business what either of you do. And I shouldn’t get involved in that.”
“Maybe you should care what he is,” Winston replied with a shrug, “and I don’t mean in a bad way, but Ricky is proud of himself and of his heritage and he’d probably like to share that with someone who is going to stay with us, at least for a little bit. You two should talk.” Winston wasn’t going to push the matter too much more, but they weren’t going to let Orion just leave this alone either. Ricky was a selkie and Orion was a hunter and that needed to be cleared before things could really get normal. Plus, Winston didn’t tell Ricky about Orion’s … heritage and they would like for Ricky to not find out about that later because it might reflect badly on both of them. They paused and glanced at their shoes. “Dude I could say the exact same thing about you, you’re like being really hard on yourself. You didn’t choose this, you didn’t choose your family or your siblings. You can only do what you think is right and you can only act in a way that you think is appropriate.” They tried not to think about it. Winston was the oldest of a lot of the people in college that they had met through the supernatural and they hadn’t had it easy in high school, but at least Nell had had their back. They just wished that there had been someone there for their friend. “I wish I had known about this before I …” they didn’t say have sex with Athena but they wished that all the same. This was messy and suddenly they felt the need to apologise to their best friend, even though they hadn’t really done anything wrong. “Anyway, look, you’re still safe to stay, you should definitely talk to Ricky about … well you two should just talk and be honest. It’ll be better.” They paused for a moment. “Whilst we’re tearing off bandages, I know you already said something about paying rent, but you literally won’t be able to. Ricky owns the house and I spent my first few months living here trying to get him to take my money and you just can’t do it. So take my advice and buy him some really fucking expensive gifts at Christmas and his birthday and accept that your budget is going to go further then you thought.”
“Yeah. You’re right. Obviously.” At least Orion confirmed that he was right about Ricky. Or at least semi right. He still hadn’t confirmed the Selkie heritage, but the Ricky and Skylar connection was another big connecting dot. Of course Winston was right, it was just… hard to figure out how he was going to do it. How did you tell a friend that your parents actively wanted them dead? “I’ll figure it out. How to talk about it. I just… don't know how I’m going to do it yet. I don’t really have a great track record with this stuff.” Winston knew about Skylar too right? Probably better to not mention it just in case. Keeping track of this stuff was too much, he needed a white board or something. “Maybe, yeah. But it’s whatever. I’m here now. And I want to help people. That’s my goal.” He shuffled over to the couch again, suddenly realizing that he had been awkwardly standing the entire conversation. His mouth still felt dry, but he ignored it. “Right. Well, thanks again. For being so welcoming and all.” Of course Ricky wasn’t going to let them pay rent. He was so annoyingly nice. Rio could still find ways to help around the house though, right? Buy groceries, maybe help with utilities? He knew Ricky didn’t mind the cold, he wondered how much he could get away with turning the place down temperature wise. The long sleeves and pants kept Rio pretty warm. Plus the electricity bill in this place must be out the roof with how much technology all three of them seemed to use. “He’s so annoying. But fine. I can find other ways to help out I guess. Maybe. Once I figure out what I can do to help.”
“Weird, I don’t think anyone ever says that I’m right, you’re going to have to stay with us for a very long time because I like being told that I’m right and you’re literally the only person that does it.” Winston smirked gently and finished their cookie. “Just be yourself, be honest and try and be patient, this is not going to be easy for either of you and you know if you want me there even as moral support, I’m here for you both.” Winston smiled, they liked Orion’s goal. “Well, you’ve come to the right place, we’re all about helping people who need help, that’s why we asked you to come here, plus we genuinely think you’re gonna be a great roomie, that wasn’t a lie.” Winston watched Orion take a seat and pushed some snacks towards them. “You don’t need to say thanks my dude, we’re your friends and this is exactly what friends are for. But yes, Ricky is the most annoying dude ever. All I want to do is try and pay my way in this world, I don’t want to owe anyone and I don’t want to deal with someone else paying for me to just exist, but he literally won’t take money off of you, if he does he’ll just use it to buy you groceries or put gas in your tank or he’ll put the money in his bank account and transfer it back to yours. It’s beyond frustrating.”
“I find that hard to believe. Because you’re the coolest” Orion shrugged, stating it matter-of-factly. Winston was the coolest, and had helped Rio on multiple occasions now. They were exactly the type of person that Rio wanted to help with the Scribes. But more so, they were the type of person that Rio wanted to be friends with. “I thought you were just taking pity on me for calling you frantically in the middle of the night?” Rio asked, laughing and reaching for the pile of snacks. Despite the stress, he was starting to feel a bit more relaxed. It did make Rio feel a bit better, knowing that they had talked about it. That the offer hadn’t just been a one time offer at the Scribe Headquarters that they felt too awkward to take back. “Well that’s… very nice of him I guess. But also, the worst.” Rio had no idea how much money Ricky had, but it didn’t really matter much, he should still accept some money. Rio sighed, stuffing a handful of chips into his mouth, “Okay. Let’s fire up a game and try to think about something a bit more positive.”
“Again, very weird because no one else thinks that, are you sure you didn’t hit your head or something?” Winston winked playfully and smiled at their friend despite everything. “I mean, I guess we kind of took pity on you,” Winston laughed and shook their head, “Nah I’m joking, it wasn’t anything like that, we saw someone who was in need and we’re in a position to help with that and so we wanted to, you’re a nice guy and we like you around. It all just works really well.” Winston considered the situation that Ricky put them in, whilst it was comfortable it made Winston feel as if they were taking a lot from their friend sometimes. Swallowing they shrugged in agreement. “You’re preaching to the choir bro, I hate it, I want to help out with the bills around here and feel like an adult, like I’m not complaining about my rent free existence, but at the same time I wish that I was actually pulling my weight. But yeah, you’re right, we should definitely try and enjoy ourselves.” At least before Winston had to get in contact with Athena directly to discuss this.

(i guess you could call this) A review on Infamous: Second Son
SInce this is my literal first post on this blog, I guess I should start by talking about the first game I really wanted back when the PS4 came out. Although i didn’t know this at the time, Infamous: Second Son is the latest sequel in the Infamous series, a series i know virtually nothing about. I haven’t actually finished playing it myself, but I currently am at least 75% done with the game.
The base plot, to put it simply, is this; In this world, there are people born with special powers, called Conduits. They could be anyone, and of course some of them start causing havoc, using their powers for crime and unintentionally demonizing the rest of the Conduits to the rest of the world. This starts the persecution of Conduits, now dubbed “Bio-Terrorists”, which eventually leads to this game and it’s story which I’ll touch on in a few.
The Game-play
When you start the game, your main method of attack is pressing X/square until your enemy falls over, or shooting them with small smoke blasts. You have the option to shoot a smoke missile that does splash damage, but unless you put some upgrades in, you wont be using it right away. You don’t use smoke like a regular power, instead you need to absorb some from a smoking car, or a fire to use as fuel for certain abilities, like shooting missiles or just shooting regularly. The regular melee attack doesn’t expend any energy, which you can always see in a bar on the bottom left.
You can press B/Circle to Smoke Dash, though when you gain other powers this will mostly be used more for travelling the game world. It doesn't expend any energy, so feel free to use it as much as you want because you’ll need it to dodge the many many bullets that’ll be sent your way.
In the top right, you’ll see a symbol- that’s your Karma Strike Meter. The Karma Strike is pretty much an ultimate move, that when used properly can end most fights. But, its also my first gripe of the game. See, a big part of the game is a sort of reputation meter, where you can either play the good guy and fight those oppressing the Conduits the morally correct way, or you can do the same while also abusing your power and using your allies as soldiers for your mission. In my first playthrough which I haven’t completed, I decided to be the good guy, which made getting the Karma Strike harder in my opinion. To fill the meter, you need to subdue 6 enemies in a row, or subdue enemies while also doing something good that would fill your good guy meter. For some reason i just can’t ever find enemies to subdue, or enemies that are off to the side make it difficult to subdue others. A lot of stuff can happen in a fight, and that makes it kind of annoying when i know the best way to come out on top is to make 6 enemies subdue-able before i can wipe out the rest.
But, a plus for this reputation meter and the Karma Strike is that it’s consistent. I’ve noticed that the further i get into the game, the more civilians cheer Delsin on when they realize he’s fighting for the better. Plus, you get different Karma Strikes if you have more good karma than bad. But, again, you get more combat options if you have more bad karma than good. Which makes sense, since the good karma upgrades help Delsin’s stats with healing and absorbing smoke and subduing enemies.
The enemies don’t get too many introductions. They all have concrete powers given to them by the main villain of the game, and the more you play the stronger the enemies get. It starts with grunts that just have guns and make shields out of concrete, nothing too difficult though they can get tricky in high numbers. Then, in a mission where you climb to the top of the Space Needle, you fight a miniboss that then becomes a regular enemy. This enemy is especially annoying to me, because until you get the neon power that makes you move faster, they are extremely difficult to hit. They’re like Special Ops, with concrete chunks floating around them. They can trap you in concrete (which can be escaped by smoke dashing) and do some good damage. But ii’s not the concrete that makes it difficult to hit them- It’s the fact that they just run. If you get close enough, they will run and do their own version of a smoke dash to get away from you. And until you unlock neon, that makes them the most annoying enemy so far.
The next enemy is another boss that becomes a regular enemy, just way later. These guys sit in concrete tornadoes, shooting stones at you from a distance, and luckily they aren’t too hard to beat. Just use neon and shoot them from a distance and they’ll fall pretty soon. The next and latest one for me is an extremely aggressive concrete covered enemy that came in a group of three or four(i dont really remember how many). They move way too fast to be able to fight them with the video power, which I’ll touch on in a minute. I haven’t figured out their weakness yet, but i can tell you it isn’t melee because they will steam roll you if you try to get near them.
The Three Powers
In total, you get three powers to upgrade and use, each giving you different play styles and making you use different tactics. I’ll admit, I liked that you can’t switch between them like style switching in Devil May Cry. Instead, you need to find a source of smoke, a neon sign, or a satellite dish for each power. If you’re running low on one, you’ll have no choice but to switch to another and change the game plan.
Smoke
The power you start the game with and my personal favorite is Smoke. The kit you get with smoke just seemed best for combat, and its easy and simple to travel around with. It’s the most abundant source to absorb in a fight because there’s usually a lot of exploding cars or ammo boxes you can absorb to fill that meter. The smoke Karma Strike is ok, but I absolutely love how it looks. Delsin sends himself flying straight into the air, and falls back down like a mortar, destroying everything in the vicinity. Plus, smoke just fits Delsin’s design in my opinion. He gets the next two powers from other people, so they obviously seem out of place for him to have (even though he also got smoke from someone else too but thats not the point it still suits him very well).
Neon
Neon is the second power you get, and it’s the second best in my opinion. It’s not as easy to subdue enemies with it as smoke is, but its still fun to use regardless. I think the lasers you shoot do more damage than the smoke blasts, and neon lets you run at what the game calls “Light Speed”, which is just kinda faster than usual. You can run straight up walls, and you can suspend enemies in these neon bubbles to attack them mid air. The Karma Strike can hit more enemies than smoke does, and you get to put on a pretty neat light show.
Video
Video is my least favorite, so much so that I kind of avoid using this power because its just so slow and when all the enemies are constantly focused on you and shooting at you at all times, being slow is not what you need. The melee is brought down to two strong hits with a bit more range, but they take way too long to finish for it to even be worth it. The heavy attack is pretty much a couple swords that i think are better against choppers? I haven’t tested it much. You get wings but you can only dash forward and up walls for a bit before having to stop. You can shoot automatic, which is kinda useful. But there isn’t much to write home about with this power. Even the Karma strike is hard to get, since this power gives me no real ways to subdue enemies, just hope they surrender and that doesn’t happen often enough to be able to fill the meter. It’s sluggish, it doesn’t offer anything new, and it’s just not for me.
One more thing about the combat; there aren’t many melee options besides mashing square and a ground pound. You can’t do any aerial combos which was disappointing to me because I thought that would’ve been amazing for juggles and just adding more ways to fight. Unfortunately, it kind of feels like you’re very limited in your options for combat.
Other than the combat, I think the game looks amazing, even for something thats 6 years old now. I like the Karma Strikes so much less because they help me in fights and more because they just look super cool and make me wanna look at them again. A lot of games don’t look the best on current gen consoles and even on PC, but this is definitely not one of them. My only gripe with the looks is the how much saturation but this can even be fixed in the settings so it barely counts.
When i first watched gameplay of this game, I had never wanted to be a super hero more in a long time. It was so much fun to watch, and even though it’s not as much fun to play through now, its still pretty good. I know I should touch on the story, but I haven’t finished the game, so I’ll probably do a post about it when i do. But i love the characters, and i love how they interact with each other, and I love how they interact with Delsin. I love watching those dumb brotherly arguments with Delsin’s brother. This game is a 7.5/10 for me.

Umihara Kawase Bazooka makes for a surprisingly fun single screen platformer
by Amr (@siegarettes)
Umihara Kawase Bazooka
Developer: Studio Saizensen, Success
Publisher: ININ Games
Switch, PS4, PC
When Umihara Kawase Bazooka was announced, I was skeptical. The franchise has had its share of left field outings and cameos--to mixed success--and I wasn’t sure that the series’ signature wire action physics would translate to the hectic pace of a platform fighter. Well, after a strange, staggered release, Umihara Kawase Bazooka is finally here on the Switch and I can confidently say that my concerns were mostly unfounded--at least as far as the singleplayer goes.
Bazooka eschews the usual Arcade mode for a Challenge mode, where you face off against waves of enemies in single screen arenas. The time attack emphasis from its parent series is folded in here, with waves continually respawning until you either clear a set amount of enemies and pick up the required amount of score tokens, or run out of time.
Certain enemies will require different tactics, asking you to learn one of the game’s various mechanics, but most of them will be dispatched with the titular Bazooka attack. By stunning and reeling in enemies with your line you can store them in your backpack, where they can be fired at high speed towards other enemies. Taking out several at a time will not only spawn score tokens faster, but create combo balls, which can be picked up and launched into other enemies to keep the combo going.
The combo mechanics give Bazooka a very arcade feel, not unlike something like Bubble Bobble. At the start you’ll be focused on just surviving, but as you get more comfortable you’ll begin to see the patterns in how enemies spawn, and try to manipulate them to hit as many at a time with a single shot. It gives a great incentive to return to levels, seeing how fast you can clear the stage with more knowledge of the layout and enemy spawns.
What doesn’t quite work is the series’ signature grappling physics. The bouncy grappling hook takes a long time to retract and build up speed, and is way more technical to use than you’d want in the heat of battle. It’s fine for combat, but navigating platforms smoothly is going to take a long time to get used to unless you’re already a series expert. Bazooka offers a few control options to mitigate this, but they also end up taking away some control from you and don’t solve the problem, especially when the huge, lumbering bosses show up.
These issues can be mitigated by your choice of character, with each falling into a particular archetype and sporting two abilities to help in navigation and combat. Characters like Kawase can fire off items they can recapture for an instant Bazooka attack, while others might be able to leap across the stage or even fly. The skills bring a decent variety of styles to the table and give you alternate approaches to a stage when you get stuck on a particularly troublesome one.
Eventually the stages ramp up in difficulty enough that you’re either going to have to get serious about mastering the finicky grappling hook, or call in a few friends for backup.
And for obvious reasons, getting a couple people in the same room is proving kind of difficult right now, let alone ones who are willing to stick around long enough to start learning the nuances of the grappling physics. And without any option to play against the CPU, at least as of writing, I didn’t get a chance to try its versus component at all. I’ll be following up with a report on its online play at a later date, now that the game has properly been released and hopefully has been given time to populate.
Until then, Umihara Kawase Bazooka is going to be a surprisingly enjoyable set of challenge rooms, with just enough to keep me coming back to knock down those times. It’s not enough to carry the game on its own, but it’s thought out for something that could have easily been a throwaway extra.

Sception’s Switch Port Wish List:
Dragon Age, first game only. Fun game, even on console. Best of the series easily - the second game’s rushed dev time forced so many cut corners that there’s hardly a game left over, and the third game is so bloated with tedium that every time I try to play it my eyes glass over and I slip into a boredom coma before I can get a quarter of the way into it. But the first game? Way better on PC with mods and keyboard/mouse controls, but even so I’d jump at the chance to play it again on switch. Chances of it happening? Low. EA doesn’t want to remind people of when Bioware made good games, and they aren’t interested in releasing anything on the switch that isn’t an exploitative microtransaction store.
Mass Effect Trilogy: First game was good, second game was better, and, yeah, ok, the series didn’t finish on the best foot, the third game suffering from tone problems and a final ending that just flat out sucked, but Mass Effect 3 has a several key moments that stand out as among the best in the overall series, and while the ending is kind of bad, at least the series *has* an ending - something Dragon Age fans will probably never get to see. Chances of it happening? Again, low, for the same reason as Dragon Age.
Arkham Asylum. Just Asylum, not the rest. City’s not bad, but the loss of focus costs the experience more than the larger world and better boss encounters can win back, imo. The rest of the series, though? Bleh. Chance of it happening? I don’t know. Bunch of Warner Bros games on switch, of varying port quality. Asylum was developed by Rocksteady, not sure if that would introduce rights issues. Better chance of this than of most other games on this list.
FF6. Sure, Square has ported over PS and PS2 titles, but what about earlier ones? FF6 is the best game in the series, imo. Sure, it’s way too easy, like most JRPGs are, but the engaging story with a huge ensemble cast of likable characters is amazing. I’ve never seen a game with so many playable characters where I liked all of them this much, and the couple of multi-party dungeons reward you for spending time building up all of them. You also don’t frequently see this kind of story heavy jrpg game with a real ensemble cast, with no obvious ‘main character’, letting the player engage with whichever characters they like rather than forcing you into the shoes of a Chrono or a Cloud or some other default Hero, characters who are sometimes good but rarely the most interesting or engaging member of their respective games’ playable casts. So yeah, FF6 is great, but good portable versions aren’t easy to come by. The GBA version is amazing, but good luck getting your hands on it. The mobile port is trash. Phone emulators have to deal with awkward phone controls. A switch port - whether of the original snes version, or the PS1 port with additional pre-rendered video bits, or the GBA version with it’s not-terrible extra postgame dungeon and bosses, would be great. Chance of it happening? Frankly, I’m confused why it hasn’t happened already. Square has ported a bunch of old final fantasy games to switch, I have no idea why they cut those games off at the PS1 era. I would say the chances should be good that FF6 will come to switch, but it’s such an obvious port that the fact that it hasn’t happened already implies to me that there’s maybe some behind the scenes bullshit ruling it out. And if it does come over, it might be a port of the ios version, which would be terrible.
FFTactics. I will buy this on any platform it’s released on. But if we could get a port of the PSP version, with post game multiplayer dungeons intact? Maybe with online multiplayer support - the turn based nature of the game letting it bypass some of the lousiness of switch online? Please. Chance of it happening? Again, I’m confused why it hasn’t happened already. FF7, 8, and 9 are ported over, but not Tactics? As with FF6, it seems like an obvious and very likely port, except that it’s so obvious and so likely that the fact it hasn’t happened already maybe implies that there’s something specifically preventing it from happening. At least if they do port the ios version it wouldn’t be a tragedy here, though I would still lament the lack of the post game content from the PSP version.
Fallout 3 / New Vegas. Really Loved 3, and loved New Vegas too, though I never did get around to finishing it. Would love to see these games on the switch, provided Bethesda didn’t use the opportunity to stuff them full of microtransactions. New Vegas, despite bugs and some cut corners, remains probably the best 3d fallout game, and 3, despite the not-undeserved hate it gets for its main story, is still probably the most fun I’ve had just randomly exploring a world in a bethesda game. Chance of it happening? You’d think the chances would be ok, Bethesda’s had a bunch of games ported to switch - Skyrim, Doom, Wolvenstein, etc. That said, Fallout 3′s reputation among the Fallout fan community has plummeted in the last few years so Bethesda might not think a port would be worthwhile. And as they’re still trying to push 76, I can’t imagine their eager to remind people that their Fallout games weren’t always the hottest of garbage. So... better odds here than of Mass Effect or Dragon Age, but I’m not holding my breath. As for New Vegas, I doubt Bethesda has any interest in reminding people that the best Fallout game to be released since they picked up the license was developed by someone else.
Morrowind - Still probably the greatest Bethesda game, though I understand it was already showing the trend towards streamlining and loss of depth coming off of Daggerfall that would eventually lead us to the likes of 76 and Blades. But yeah, another classic I never got around to beating, that it would probably take a switch port to get me to try again. Chance of it happening? Some but not great, largely for similar reasons to Fallout 3. Skyrim sold quite well on Switch, IIRC, so you’d think other Elder Scrolls ports would have been a natural choice, but years later and nothing but Blades means it probably isn’t going to happen.
Mother Series, especially Earthbound - which like tactics I’ll buy and replay on any platform it’s released on - and Mother 3, which seems fantastic, but the only time I’ve tried it I didn’t make it very far due to the SNES emulator I had at the time ruining the rhythm based combat minigame. So yeah, an official port would be great. Chance of it happening? Actually good for once, for the first time on this list. As with FF6/Tactics I’m kind of surprised that it hasn’t happened already, but Nintendo being Nintendo I’m more inclined to blame that on them either just not getting around to it yet or trying to hold off on a cult classic to use it to spike excitement in a dull release window later down the line.
Demon’s Souls - Great game. Sadly my play through was killed by a hacking incident, but yeah, a classic, laid down the souls game fundamentals while pulling of some aspects better than any of the games that followed it. And a remake has officially been announced for release on PS5, would be a great opportunity to release a port of the original to the Switch market... Chance of it happening? Unfortunately, Sony owns the rights, so I just don’t see it happening... not unless Sony really plans to abandon the mobile market and instead push interaction with switch. They did include that “would you be interested in PS4 remote play on other devices - including Switch” question in a survey a while back. Still doesn’t strike me as likely, though.
Dark Souls 2 - like Fallout 3, Dark Souls 2 has become the black sheep of its series in fandom eyes. Not entirely without reason, but there’s some interesting and novel design choices that get overlooked and unappreciated as a result. I’ve never made time to play it myself, despite it sitting in my Steam library never downloaded, but would absolutely play it on the switch. Chance of it happening? Without the fan crowd clamoring for a re-release, an updated port seems unlikely.

Oh, hey, an ask about streaming!
First: I have a long backlog of games I’d like to stream, actually! Gifted games or games I acquired for myself but haven’t played. I’m not very good at managing my own entertainment, heh. I’ve put a hold on streaming PC games; mine is a four-year-old potato that was used when I got it, and it can barely handle streaming and playing at the same time--and DEFINITELY can’t handle recording alongside that. When I stream PC games, I have to download the stream file from Twitch itself! It’s never high-quality when I do that. (Not to mention, my wired Xbox 360 controller is on its last legs, which means a lot of games I’m not comfortable streaming for that reason too.)
So, for now, I’m going to be streaming console games almost exclusively. I have a ton of different consoles, but only a few can hook up to my terrible old Roxio, so I’m pretty much restricted to PS3, PS4, and Switch games at the moment. I’m going to be doing the Black Eagles campaign of Fire Emblem: Three Houses eventually, now that I’ve completed Golden Deer, but I promised myself that I would stream a handful of games before then. Here’s the current plan:
Cadence of Hyrule (Switch, completed)
Enter the Gungeon (PS4, completed; I tried it, it was cool, but I’m terrible at it and I wasn’t having a ton of fun being terrible or being terribly entertaining, so I’m shelving that after one stream, possibly to return later)
Steven Universe: Save the Light (PS4, ongoing)
Tales from the Borderlands (PS3; I’m mostly blind on it, though I know a little bit about Rhys’s story and that this is apparently where Scooter meets his fate)
Hollow Knight (Switch, borrowing from a friend; I’ve seen the final boss fight and a smattering of tidbits from around the game but have never played)
I may also play the Resident Evil 2 remake on PS4; I’m not blind on it at all, but I haven’t played it yet and I love Resident Evil.
After these, unless I find something else short I really want to do first, I’m going to stream Fire Emblem: Three Houses again (the aforementioned Black Eagles playthrough). After that, I have options. I have a ton of other games I’d love to stream just for these consoles. I’m going to be streaming Persona 5 almost entirely blind at some point. I have a copy of Nier that my friend Alana desperately wants me to play. Just looking at the PS3 collection my buddy Eddie gave me, I also have the first two Dark Souls games, Witch and the Hundred Knight, Dragon Age: Inquisition (though I never finished Dragon Age Oranges), and The Evil Within. There’s also a couple titles that I know absolutely zilch about and may not wind up being good stream games for me but that I’ve heard are very good, such as Hyperdimension Neptunia, Cross Edge, and Dragon’s Dogma. (I also have Eddie’s copy of Kingdom Hearts 3 sitting on my PS4 pile, but I don’t know when I’ll bother with THAT.) I also have Breath of the Wild for Switch, so that’d be fun.
What are my preferred game genres? I like RPGs. I like horror games. I like games that focus on story. I like Metroid games, though I’ve only played a couple Metroidvanias outside of that series. I used to be really good at Guitar Hero. As for games I’d definitely never stream, I have a hard time answering that question. It’s too broad; probably never something like Call of Duty, unless I was playing Zombies for a few hours with friends, that would have been fun.
For streams, I think I want to focus on games that have A Playthrough--Enter the Gungeon was fun, but it was the same thing over and over with some small variations. Roguelikes are probably out as a result. Cadence of Hyrule, while it’s probably endlessly replayable, will probably only have an Octavo mode playthrough, if that; I completed the story, so while the game is fun, I feel like there’s very little for me to react to. Give me something with a story; that’s the best stream for me, I think. Of course, if a lot of people want me to replay something like Gungeon, speak up! If there’s an overwhelming desire for me to play games just to watch me play instead of watching me react, I can try that, but I don’t feel like that’s my strong suit when it comes to making content.
As far as recommending games, you’re certainly welcome to, but the backlog of games I want to play is so espansive that unless something insanely attractive comes out (like the Resident Evil 3 remake that’s coming this year) it probably won’t be done anytime soon. You’re welcome to join the community Discord server to talk about it, though!
Anyways, I hope this wall of text was informative! If you guys have any more questions about me streaming, feel free to ask!

Title Woven Developer Alterego Games Publisher Alterego Games Release Date November 15th, 2019 Genre Adventure, Puzzle Platform PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One Age Rating E for Everyone 10+ – Fantasy Violence Official Website
I really wanted to love Woven. After all, I was one of the original backers of the unsuccessful Kickstarter project, and was duly impressed by Alterego Games’ decision to self publish the project afterwards. The premise of Woven was really compelling and different, taking place in a soft world of woolen yarn and fabric that is being invaded by strange mechanical insects. Our hero is a goofy elephant named Stuffy, and he quickly comes across a new friend, a firefly-shaped robot named Glitch. Together, they set out to discover the truth and explore this world, transforming and reweaving Stuffy to scale various obstacles along the way. If only the adventure had lived up to that fantastic premise.

Woven is the sort of game that would have made my childhood self smile. It plays out like a live action Winnie the Pooh, in a calm and mellow land where all that matters is relaxation and finding flowers. At least at first. Stuffy is a very amicable protagonist, but not the brightest bulb. A fact that is repeatedly referenced by the game’s narrator. The narrator’s tenor sounds very British, and at first I enjoyed how his paired sentences usually rhymed. It does grow old rather quickly though, especially when you realize that the narrator is not gonna help you much with direction. If you get lost at all, he’ll start reminiscing like a grandfather with dementia, talking about the birds in the sky and the fish in the sea. None of which is helpful. Which wouldn’t be a problem, except for the fact that getting lost is a regular occurrence in Woven. Or at least it was for me. I managed to get stuck about 5 minutes into the game, in what would be considered the tutorial area. That’s because the game doesn’t hold your hand much, and trusts you’re clever enough to pick up on the clues in your environment. Sadly, what Woven thinks is plainly evident very rarely is. Case in point, the very first blueprint machine I came across gave no guidance how to operate it. I eventually figured it out, but it was a sign of things to come.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
There’s dozens of blueprint machines spread across Woven’s 5 regions, including meadows, deserts and jungles, and each blueprint gives Stuffy new transformation options. To unlock the blueprint, you play a little musical mini-game by operating mechanical levers to select notes. Though this was confusing initially, I grew to enjoy the mini-game. At first I assumed that each animal form would have set limbs, but you can mix and match after you acquire several, creating bizarre chimeras. Case in point, you can pair Pig legs with Lion arms and a Rhino head. You can even have two different arms or legs simultaneously. Each body part has different capabilities that allow various actions. You’ll need these to solve puzzles and make your way through the game. Though Woven is nominally a linear experience, the world is so wide open it’s easy to not immediately know where to head next. A good example was when I came across a short hilltop ringed with mountains, with a circular passage full of cranky yak creatures. I could stomp my foot to force the Yaks to move, but after moving in a complete circle, I wasn’t sure what to do. I eventually found the solution online in a very helpful playthrough, but it was frustrating being on the cusp of a solution and having no idea where to go next. This was due to the fact many of the puzzles in Woven are time based, but they don’t tell you they are. If a clock had showed up indicating I had a certain amount of time, I would have known to hurry up. And the farther I got in the game, the more complex and active the puzzles got. I much preferred the puzzles that required thinking but not fast reflexes.

While it’s clearer why you would want to transform Stuffy to progress, it’s less clear how to use color palettes called patterns. You’ll find tons of flowers as you wander about, and by stomping your foot, they’ll open up and allow Glitch to scan them. You can also scan some animals for these, but they rarely sit still, so you’ll either need to be quick or find a way to distract or incapacitate them. Lastly, there’s patches you’ll randomly find on the map to unlock patterns. Patterns do a couple of things. On the one hand, they let you decorate Stuffy at the knitting machines, making him look as fancy or hideous as you please. You might be more surprised to realize you need some for puzzles. An example are giant snakes that block your progress unless you match their pattern. There’s another cool segment where a mechanical spider will pounce on you unless you blend in with the background. I don’t mind using patterns strategically, but it’s very easy to not scan the right one, and then be forced to backtrack until you find it. Some sort or an indicator of where key items resided would have helped, but there’s no such thing. And given the wide open format of Woven, it’s rather easy to get lost and miss the proper patterns. Oh and did I mention there’s more than 100 of them spread across the entire game? Which makes it even more daunting when you manage to pass one without realizing it.

You may be wondering what Glitch does, and the simple answer is he operates every mechanical device you interact with. He turns on the blueprint machines and knitters, scans items and can also use his light to illuminate dark caves. The little firefly is pretty helpful, and his backstory ties directly into the plot of Woven. You’ll find lots of nodes that reveal bits and pieces of his lost memory as you go. I won’t spoil it, but suffice to say there’s a reason Glitch feels so strongly pulled by the planet’s moon. I wish I could say Stuffy’s backstory was as interesting, but he’s almost an incidental character. He could literally be anything or anybody else, and it wouldn’t change the course of the game. I never knew much about the elephant, other than he was apparently simple, cowardly and loved flowers. It’s not clear how long he’s been around, what he did before Glitch or anything really. He’s just there to progress the story, and that’s a shame, especially since he’s nominally the main character.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Not everything in the game works poorly. I did find it handy how the different Joy-Con controlled Stuffy and Glitch, respectively. And I appreciated visual prompts indicating what abilities I needed to get past obstacles, and found the camera easy to operate. The problem was primarily with the game’s physics. Woven is a wide open 3D world, but often what seems a clear path forward ends up tripping you up with invisible stage geometry. Bushes often kept me from moving forward, which was awkward. As a fan of platformers, I found this made Woven a lot harder to enjoy, since I was never clear if I could progress or not. Sometimes you do actually need different abilities tied to animal parts, such as jumping or pushing, but you never know in advance. So if I came to an area with a puzzle and had the wrong parts, I would have to backtrack all the way to the nearest knitting machine and reweave my elephant friend. I really think it would have been much easier if Stuffy could fast travel to these, since they’re spaced rather far apart and it’s not very fun walking about. Failing that, I would have loved a mini-map, since that would have cut down how often I got lost in Woven dramatically.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Visually, Woven has a cute storybook aesthetic. There’s lots of bright colors and soft details. While I have no problem with that, I do have a problem with the graphical fidelity. I will mention I played the Switch version of the game, and from what little research I’ve done, it runs far better on other consoles. I normally don’t complain about things like framerate or the like, and usually find most games I play on Switch run great, but oftentimes the graphics here were muddy and fuzzy. Simply put, this game suffers from Bloodstained syndrome, meaning every other iteration of the game plays better than the one on Nintendo consoles. Which is truly a shame, since this is the perfect sort of all ages game that would otherwise appeal to a lot of Nintendo gamers. Musically the game is frankly dull, and quite muted musically. Sound effects lack punch, and actions often don’t have the proper impact as a result. When Stuffy punches a box out of his way, it just slides quietly out of place. Much like the rest of the game, aesthetically Woven is a very mixed bag.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
While I hate to add onto my other complaints, I have a few more. For one thing, I find it completely awkward how Stuffy always looks at Glitch as he runs forward, contorting his head to follow the firefly everywhere. That’s minor, but a more significant issue relates to the linearity of the game. If you miss any collectibles or achievements, you can’t get them until the next time you play through the game from the beginning. Once you reach a new area, there’s no backtracking, and the game auto saves. So if you’re one of those people that loves to platinum games, best of luck. And finally, while I don’t mind the general lack of combat in the game, it makes it that much more challenging when you have to contend with the final boss.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Much as I wanted to love Woven, I left the experience quite disappointed. There was promise here, but for whatever reason it wasn’t met. If you don’t mind clumsy physics and very complex and vague puzzles, you might enjoy what’s here. Even then, it’s a hard pill to swallow at $19.99. Though you can beat the game in less than 5 hours, it took me around 9 due to getting lost repeatedly. So at least you’ll get some bang for your buck. This is one of those games I recommend you pick up on a sale. Hopefully Alterego Games has more ideas they can breathe life into in the future, cause I’d honestly like to see them succeed. In the meantime, I’ll lament this tale of an elephant and his firefly buddy.

[ THE YOUNG GANDOR FIEND ]
some thoughts on luck in the modern day :
-- he’s moved out of the family home and into his own apartment; it’s considerably more spacious and a tad bit more expensive, but he figured it was a good change of pace. had moved during the eighties or nineties. -- there isn’t much to note about the new apartment aside from having an amazing view. as a result, luck is nitpicky about the clean windows, especially since he uses the grand view of new york to relax. -- luck still works the family business full - time; however, since the mafia has seen better days and they refuse to engage in drug trade, the brothers had to resort to other means in order to gain lucre. one such way was by renovating their jazz hall and old speakos to a slightly more modern day bar and restaurant chain, similar to the martillos. -- he actually works as a bartender part - time in the coraggioso, but more so out of pleasure. mixing and serving drinks, as well as engaging in small talk with the patrons, has become something of a favorite pastime. -- luck’s love of reading has never waned and, in fact, seemed to grow more over the decades as new and new novels came out. -- along with classics, luck has gained a newfound interest for the fantasy genre. he enjoys both harry potter and game of thrones ( preferably, the latter, but he has a soft spot for the former ). -- luck has a strange fascination with the internet. while he isn’t much of a social media guru ( although he has a twitter and facebook account, he uses them primarily to gauge what’s going on in the modern world more so than post anything about himself ), it’s not unusual to find him online. -- he tends to use youtube and wikipedia the most. luck is prone to getting trapped on the former, originally intending to look up a specific video only to find himself on some train that has very little to do with his prior intentions. as for the latter, luck’s taken up a hobby writing wikipedia articles and/or correcting misinformed ones. -- luck used to be VEHEMENTLY AGAINST getting netflix, but then berga bought a subscription for all three of them to use in their homes. luck held out, until berga convinced him to at least give it a shot. within a span of a week, luck binged watch 3 separate tv shows back - to - back without stopping. he still despises netflix, but now more so for the fact that he’s absolutely addicted to it and it distracts him from getting much needed work done. -- luck binge watches like a monster, if you can’t catch my drift. -- much to the surprise of probably everyone, luck picked up video gaming as a hobby. or, rather, he did so quietly. he’s far more a nintendo fan, but he does play several ps4 games and, at most, a handful of xbox ones. you’re more likely to catch him playing zelda on a handheld version of the ds underneath the bar or on the subway to work than you are to see him play on a PC. -- as you can probably tell, Zelda is his favorite video game franchise. His favorite game out of the series if Majora’s Mask. -- over the years, he’s mellowed out considerably and, despite the rocky hardships that came with it, managed to come to peaceable terms with his eventual immortality. granted, he has up days and his down days, especially after losing someone he came to grow fond of. his worst was during the sixties and seventies, particularly after tick and maria’s deaths. it was one of his many motivations to move ( as suggested by several colleagues and his brothers ). he’s doing much better now, but luck looks on anxiously to claire’s eventual demise. it can affect his much to the point of being incurably gloom at times. more than likely not, this death will come to eventually upset him and perhaps more so than the ones prior. -- luck owns both a cockatiel and a macaw. he’s incredibly fond of them and loves to whistle/make odd noises at them whenever he’s home. it’s about the only time you’ll ever hear him refer to anything in that sort of oddly cutesy voice pet owners love to do. -- the cockatiel’s named Tick and the macaw’s named Maria. he explains this as being more honorable than being sentimental ( though inwardly, he does admit this is rather uncharacteristic ). -- he still wears his business suits; however, he is not above casual clothing if it suits him. luck’s not the type to wear sweats and a t out in public ( unless it’s to a corner store for an emergency 1 AM visit ), but it’s definitely not unusual for him to wear it at home on his off days. if he goes anywhere in public that’s not work related, he likes fashionably light and loose shirts with jeans and a good pair of aviators. -- even with all his brothers’ and friends’ meddling, luck still has no desire to engage in any sort of romantic relationship. he’s been pretty much stag and single all this time, and doesn’t particularly mind ( though he does sometime wonder if he ought to get out more. seeing how firo has gained a number of close friends and acquaintances over the years, luck considers if he ought to at least be more sociable. however, the loss of several close friends has made him rather shy of approaching strangers, for fear of the same emotional burn ). -- a couple of other hobbies luck has picked up : crosswords, coloring books ( at first, he felt ridiculous for even considering it, but he’s grown quite attached to the practice after awhile ), writing ( poetry, though he never really shares ), chess, scrabble, drawing/sketching, and poetry recitation ( only at home though, to his birds ). -- luck’s ridiculously good at scrabble. he’ll beat your ass come tuesday if you make the mistake of challenging him to a round. this infuriates berga to no extent. -- by modern times, luck has come to terms with his sexuality, but he never really feels the need to ever bring it up or flaunt it around his friends. while he doesn’t hate himself to the extent he did as a teenager and in the thirties, he doesn’t wish to cause distress or create a stir by mentioning it to anyone in particular. while luck has some great interest in reconnecting with pride and lgbt history, he’s also still pretty shy in regards to his own experience or engaging in anything beyond friendship. given his immortality as well, this only ADDS to his perceived lack of interest.
#the young gandor fiend | luck ; in character#well somewhere there it is possible that i still care ( but truly i hope not for my own sake ) | luck ; headcanons#somebody ought to remind you who runs this establishment ( how unfortunate ) | luck ; main ( v1 )#// sb : luck wouldn't be into video games!#// me : hey man i thought so too but luck playing zelda on ds is such a good image

Man, I've apparently been lazy recently. A lot of these I've had for quite a while but haven't tossed up here. Enough that this will have to be split into 2 pieces.
The Longest 5 Minutes - Switch game. It's using NISA's more robust box construction which is great. Also comes with some pins of the characters and the soundtrack. It's in my backlog, so I can't really speak to the game that much.
The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 - Woohoo, the first game was pretty fun. This also, uses the more robust box from NISA. This came with a hardcover art book, soundtrack, 2 sets of pins. Also comes with a Hundred Knight stress foam ball externally, and I got the rubber strap set that was sold separately. Yet again, this is in my backlog, so I haven't played much yet.
Oddword: Munch's Odyssey - Another LRG release. This guy has a very interesting box that opens from the middle. The can isn't pictured as I honestly can't figure out how to get it out without damaging the container box. Anyway, it comes with said can, soundtrack, poster, art cards and the LRG card.
Gal*Gun 2 - I was looking forward to this game… having to order it from the UK made it fairly expensive, but at least it exists. Comes with an artbook, soundtrack, set of pins, Mr. Happiness plush and… I think it's a cloth case for the Switch if I remember right. Sadly, I'm not having a ton of fun with this one. I liked the rail-shooter nature of the first one. This one is almost always stationary. I'll probably get through it, but I've picked it up a couple times and haven't continued yet. Yet again, Rice screwed up something with the printing. This time, it wasn't quite as egregious as labeling it E for Everyone, but the inside print accidentally used the inside asset for Wild Guns from Natsume.
Megadimension Neptunia VIIR - I've put off playing this since I did play through VII on PS4 and PC. I know it adds some things (and I do have a PSVR for those waifu scenes) but I can't bring myself to play through it again yet. Probably because I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as Re;Birth 1-3. Anyway, comes with a hardback artbook, a case insert, skin for a DS4 controller and a Nepgeardam plush.
Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero UE - I already own this and all the DLC on the Vita. It's a fantastic game, but wanted it for the Switch as well. It also comes with the artbook which I thought was initially only intended for Kickstarter backers (which I wasn't one of). The artbook's great, I didn't bother to open the soundtrack as it's identical to the Vita version I already have, and an instruction manual case insert.
Nurse Love Addiction - Another LRG release for the Vita. It's a VN and by the artwork, I'm guessing it's Yuri, unless it's all first person. I'm perfectly OK with that. The box is fairly robust and has a magnet latch to keep it closed (like Summon Night 6 and Fate/Extella). Inside contains the soundtrack, art cards, sheet of stickers and 5 printed band-aids. Eventually I'll get around to playing a lot of these VNs.
Sir Eats-a-Lot - Another Eastasiasoft release through Play-Asia. The box is in their normal size with the cellophane dust cover (I wish ALL LE's came with something like that. It's dusty here in CO). This comes with an artbook, soundtrack, numbered card (matches number on box), sticker and has a sticker book as a case insert. I've played a bit of this and it's not bad, but feel like the touchscreen additions are mayhaps a bit tacked on or unnecessary… and makes some jumps quite difficult.
Muv-Luv Complete - Well, I did expect this to be a bit more than it was. It's essentially both games (Muv-Luv & Muv-Luv Alternative) with 6 art cards and a cardstock box that (barely) fits the 2 games together and nowhere for the art cards. Glad to have the games, but man, this was damned expensive to have shipped state-side when I could have just got the games domestically.

My Report of Top 10 Economical Impacts of COVID-19
Top 10 Effects and Changes due to COVID-19 Impacts. 1. Collectable Trading Cards have seen significant inflation. About 5 years worth condensed over a few months. https://articles.starcitygames.com/2020/05/04/reserved-list-commander-staples-are-spiking-its-time-to-take-action/ Reasons: > US Market Dependent or Influence. Other countries base prices on US websites and ebay for fair market value. > US Government stimulus checks. People having excess weekly to spend money. Use the money to target and buyout multiple copies of a card to inflate their prices. > Overhype in the Pokemon community - Jake Paul unboxing 1st edition Pokemon Card Booster Box on a charity stream at the end of last year. Graded cards up 25%-200% depending on print, condition and rarity. Young nostalgic adults now has disposable income to re-connect with their childhood and invest in an appreciating asset. > MTG Reserve list cards, (non-reprintable cards) all it takes is one buy out of a desierable reserve list card and boom, people get FOMO. Significant influence comes from Youtubers, Streamers and Podcasts that talk about the buyouts. This advertises a potential to make money of cards, consequently making other reserve list cards a target. My Relationship. I bought reserve list cards from the start of 2020 till the end of december. I’ve even bought some as late as March after the boom. I spent and traded about $9,200-$9,600 on MTG Reserve List Cards. I estimate that I’ve spent about 7,000 in Cash and the other $2200-$2,600 as trades. Todays market value’s my collection of reserve list cards at approx $14,351 USD or $20534.87 NZD. I plan on holding at least for another 5 years to gain a 100-200% increase. 2. Steam, Xbox, PS4-5, Nintendo online co-current online player bases explodes over lockdown. Reasons: > People are self-isolating at home, nothing to do, limited education. More inclined to get distracted by playing games to pass the time. > Game Publishers and other services promoting deals and sales for people to buy new games. Opportunity to make more from accessibility and user pool. > Sheep in the crowd are more likely to hop online to play with friends since social distancing is in place. Keeps people connected and sane. Boosts optimism and friendships. My Relationship. I was playing CSGO and other games over the course of lockdown. There was no certainty about Uni. No one knew what to do as Universities and Schools prepair and co-ordinate for online learning. I noticed more people on networks, servers and streaming services that connected people from playing games to a form of communicating media. Steam database suggests a large increase to co-current players playing CSGO, Dota and PUBG. 3. In home entertainment sales for consoles, desktop PC’s and TV systems increase in demand and price Reasons: > Again, people in lockdown, to busy themselves and pass the time, consumers will opt to a form of rewarding entertainment. > Prices for parts went out of stock. > Families with younger people are constantly bored and will bother parents as they work. > Limited supply of consoles released, as a result, high volume for buy orders. > Shares for streaming services like Netflix, Disney, Amazone Prime, HBO, Lightbox and Quickflix My Relationship. Parent’s used Netflix religiously, best way to kill a TV series was in Lockdown with all the free time on our hands. I personally sought to buy a custom pc, however there was no stock for the parts and second hand markets for parts was over valued. Bad time to buy unless you were a month out from the first lockdown. 4. Small and Large Buisnesses transition online for a click and collect or deliver service. Reasons: > Keep people with retail jobs busy and earning > Better making something than nothing, It effects the way buisnesses calculate their quarterly budgets. > Essential for small buisnesses to make ends meet. > Great for people who are stuck at home and need products to help with their day to day lives. People can have that accessibility. My Relationship. Working part-time for a retail store. In the first lock down, we were not working but the leadership team were apllying for the government buisness subsidy. We did not get it, so bunnings cut it’s losses by closing several stores that did not make much. For us, eventually all our services were online for customers to participate in click and collect. We never made the smae back on a normal day but at least it was something. 5. Essential goods become high demand and are bought out for price gouging. Reasons: > People will buy out common sanitary goods, masks, hand sanitiser, toiilet paper. > Buisnesses will start to limit purchases per person. > Smart individuals or teams will buy in bulk and then sell else where for a a 100-200% mark up. > Opportunity to try new recipes for fun or testing. My Relationship. Working in retail, the team is the highest priority to make sure we have enough essential sanitary goods. The rest we can sell at a limit. However during the first lockdown, we sold out and we caught people selling for a rediculous mark up just down the road or even outside the store. 6. Social media marketing increases sevenfold Reasons: > People are spending more time on their devices. > More exposure for online marketing and trade. > Most buisnessess can only operate online. My Relationship. Started to notice more adds on FB and Instagram with people pushing ideas or products from lockdown. Most servicess were pushing the click and collect service online so you could still recieve your goods face to face. 7. General population make large asset purchases within New Zealand instead of spending the money on travel and overseas spending. Reasons: > People are stuck inside NZ and can’t travel as freely as planned. > Funds saved will go towards other desired luxuries. > Shortage of cars and higher second hand market on trade me. My Realtionship Both parents bought new cars to replace old ones. Parents also planned trips to go down south. At the same time, prices were a premium and no sales of the sort, except for travel which was dying for people to spend money on their service to come and use. 8. Global Share Markets enter a 4-6 month depression at the height of the first and second lockdowns. Reasons: > Cashing out, flooding quanity buy orders. > No confidence in some brands and markets as COVID-19 ma > Cover living expenses, people have uncertainty if you don’t make as much as the average earner in NZ My Realtionship Following stocks and learning more about investing in them. This was a great time to invest, however, no one quite knew where the bottom was. 9. Government relief checks for Small and medium sized buisnesses. Reasons: > Keep people’s jobs alive > Keep confidence in the government. > Provide assistance for those who are suffering from hardships. My Relationship. Bunnings did apply for the stimulus relief fund over the first lockdown but was not successful to recieve the fund 10. Industries dependant on Travel, Immigration, Location based entertainment, forced to reduce workforce. Reasons: > No one can travel > No airflights, or travel into country unless you are a resident. My Relationship. I’ve met new people who have left the travel and travel entertainment industry as a consequence of covid. This has also shriveled up cost of running the buisnessess.

We wanted to separate the incoming populations as a way to handle hundreds. "Our teams will continue to monitor the overall situation. Sorry, we kept you waiting. Godspeed Outriders. Earlier today, we also pushed a short-term resolution for stuttering players might encounter on Steam." So whereas Outriders is again on-line for a lot of avid gamers tonight, it needs to be famous that extra server outages are doable through the weekend. UPDATE: Outriders servers are down once more in the present day, with Square Enix sharing the newest information through Twitter. The help crew are busy making an attempt to make things better, however with so many avid gamers making an attempt to hitch in on the motion, issues are wanting robust for the weekend. The newest newsoOutriders server status information reads: "We are about to do the mom of all turn-it-off-and-on-agains. This will take all servers offline for a brief period. The full downage will permit us to rebuild and get better server infrastructure as a way to carry it again right into a wholesome and steady state. After this occurred, the outriders help crew added this: "We are working checks on the restored infrastructure now to make sure it's working as meant. While we do not but have a assured repair or an ETA we're engaged on getting you again on-line asap. Please keep tuned!
Outriders server points
outriders server unique
ORIGINAL: Outriders servers are coming underneath excessive stress tonight following the launch of the brand new looter shooter. Released earlier in the present day throughout all platforms, it’s been on PC the place Outriders recognition will be finest seen. Steam exhibits an enormous variety of avid gamers logging on to check out Outriders in the present day, having reached over 1 million gamers at its peak on that one platform. This quantity sits at nearer to 500K proper now however exhibits how Outriders servers may go down once more. The newest server status information from Square Enix is that they're wanting into the assorted launch issues, together with outage points. But PC gamers have additionally seen different points with compatibility, with the Outriders crew confirming tonight: “Our groups are persevering with to observe the server scenario and crossplay/matchmaking connectivity studies. “We are persevering with to discover all avenues of investigation re. stuttering points, together with working carefully with NVIDIA to research Drivers. We hope to offer extra information on this quickly. “DX11 was meant to be a backup ought to DX12 have run into any points, however we're conscious that DX11 shouldn't be launching as meant. “We are looking into additional possibilities to enable this and hope to provide news tomorrow (Friday).” As talked about above, there's a good likelihood that Outriders servers may go down once more tonight, relying on what number of extra gamers log in. Rocky launches for on-line video games are frequent and it wouldn’t be shocking if issues proceed to be wobbly for a couple of days.
Outriders server points This follows information that Outriders Crossplay has been turned off as a result of a bug inflicting points on PC. A message from the Outriders crew confirms that PlayStation and Xbox avid gamers can nonetheless play collectively, however PC is proscribed to Steam and Epic. The newest on the Crossplay points reads: “In getting ready the Day 1 builds for PC and Consoles, we found a desynchronization between the PC and Console code. "This leads to a backend mismatch which causes gamers to be kicked out of a multiplayer recreation that features each Console and PC gamers. “We are treating this challenge with the best precedence and we're engaged on patches that may synchronize all platform code, which can resolve these points. “We have quickly turned off automated matchmaking between PC and Consoles. Steam & Epic gamers can nonetheless Crossplay collectively, both by invite or through matchmaking. “Should you invite a Console player into your PC game via an invite code (or vice versa), the game will initially connect, but one player will eventually be kicked out of the game. We highly recommend against doing this until we have patched all versions of the game.” It has been confirmed {that a} patch is being labored on to repair this Crossplay challenge however it gained’t be accessible to obtain in the present day. And it’s unclear at the moment when Outriders Crossplay will probably be re-enabled for PS4, PC and Xbox One gamers. So avid gamers ought to put together for a flurry of fixes and patches to be launched over the approaching week as Square Enix appears to work out all the continuing kinks.
outriders server down Outriders Server Issue Solutions & PC Performance Fixes Outriders server issues and PC efficiency points are inflicting numerous complications, however there are some options you'll be able to attempt till the patches begin rolling out: While Outriders is a fairly spectacular looter shooter in numerous methods, however it’s arduous to disclaim that the sport’s server and efficiency points are ruining the expertise for a lot of gamers. Maybe we needs to be used to those sorts of points by now (and the problem of creating a recreation throughout a world pandemic virtually actually exacerbates them), however it’s a disgrace that Outriders sizzling debut has been cooled barely by the truth that many individuals haven’t been ready to connect with the sport within the first place. Others merely aren’t in a position to take pleasure in it with out navigating quite a lot of efficiency points. While Outriders’ long-term fixes are going to probably come within the type of official updates and patches, you can also make issues just a little simpler on your self by making an attempt a couple of of those fast fixes designed to handle among the recreation’s most quick points. Outriders Server Issues: Check Your Connection and the Game’s Server Status The dangerous information is that almost all of Outriders‘ server problems seem to be based on the fact that so many people are trying to play the game right now. It’s the identical downside we sometimes see every time lots of people attempt to play a brand new always-online recreation on the similar time. While there’s no nice quick resolution for that downside, listed below are a couple of primary fixes you'll be able to attempt: - Make positive you could have a robust web connection. I do know, I do know, however it truthfully could make the distinction between connecting to the sport and staring on the title display. Try utilizing an ethernet cable. - We’ll discuss this extra later, however Outriders presently suffers from some important crossplay issues that impression PC and console gamers making an attempt to hitch the identical recreation. Definitely keep away from instantly queuing with pals on reverse platforms if you'll be able to be a part of the sport. - As that is an ongoing challenge, you should definitely keep watch over the official Outlanders server status web site to ensure there aren’t main points maintaining you from connecting. - Honestly, simply maintain making an attempt to log in. Unless there's a main server challenge stopping gamers from connecting, most individuals are in a position to ultimately launch the sport by persistence. Run DirectX 11 Instead of 12 to Fix Outriders’ PC Stuttering Bugs and Glitches Outriders’ largest downside on PC in the mean time (except for connection points) is an odd “stuttering” glitch that impacts efficiency as nicely the general high quality of the sport’s visuals. Fortunately, gamers are beginning to discover workaround options to this widespread challenge. The hottest repair to the sport’s stuttering issues in the mean time entails avoiding Direct X 12 altogether. Instead, you’ll wish to select the “Play Outriders – DirectX11” possibility accessible to you through a dropdown menu once you launch the sport.
outriders server down Please word that this isn't a common resolution. Even if it does work, you’ll probably want to make use of it alongside a mixture of different fixes as a way to even quickly resolve the sport’s stuttering points. Try Rolling Back Your Nvidia Driver Update If you latterly up to date your Nvidia drivers in preparation for Outriders’ launch, you could have inadvertently contributed to the sport’s visible points. For the time being, you could wish to roll your Nvidia driver again to Version 456.71. The Outriders crew has introduced this up as a doable momentary resolution, so whereas there’s no assure that it'll work, it does seem to be this can assist handle among the most obtrusive points in the mean time. Disable Crossplay on Console and PC For Improved Overall Performance As we talked about earlier than, certainly one of Outriders’ largest technical issues in the mean time is the performance of its crossplay options. By People Can Fly’s personal admission, that function is totally not working as meant. Unless you actually wish to take the chance, we advise PC and console gamers to disable crossplay till the builders say that it’s secure to return into these waters once more. For that matter, you may simply wish to maintain off on multiplayer altogether for a short time if the efficiency issues are actually dangerous. It type of sucks, however this appears to be one repair that provides 99% of gamers some type of efficiency and stability enhance. How to Fix Outriders “No HUD” Glitches Are you one of many many individuals presently questioning why there is no such thing as a HUD in Outriders? It seems that downside will be attributed to a surprisingly frequent glitch. Fortunately, there’s a dependable resolution accessible: - Open Outriders‘ menu and go to “Options.” - Go to the HUD tab and switch each “On” setting to “Off” (keep away from different settings for now). - Launch the sport. - Go again to the HUD tab and allow each possibility you disabled beforehand. - Leave the Options part and select “Return to Lobby” - Your HUD needs to be mounted. There’s an opportunity you might need to do that greater than as soon as as there have been conflicting studies on how “permanent” this repair actually is. Try Changing Your Steam Friends List Settings to “Offline” to Improve PC Performance Interestingly, it appears that evidently Outriders gamers on Steam can resolve fairly a couple of efficiency points just by going to their “Friends” listing on the launcher and selecting to go offline. Based on what we all know concerning the recreation’s issues, it feels like this transformation helps make sure that the title isn’t always looking for pals through Steam. Removing that system communication function surprisingly appears to enhance general efficiency and connection stability. Overshoot Outriders’ PC System Requirements Outriders isn’t essentially the most poorly optimized PC recreation (a minimum of in comparison with another current video games), however analysts have discovered that there’s a fairly good motive why the sport’s PC system necessities are so excessive within the first place. In reality, you may wish to “overshoot” system necessities in the interim. Just ignore the minimal necessities outright (for now), and purpose for the really useful necessities as your new minimal. There’s each hope that some early fixes and eventual patches will make the sport a bit friendlier to gamers with lower-end {hardware}, however for the second, overkill appears to be the best way to go. Adjust Cinematic Camera Smoothing to Fix Outriders’ Annoying “Shaky Cam” This repair isn’t actually about a few of Outriders’ largest efficiency points, but when you end up aggravated by the bizarre manner that the digital camera shakes throughout Outriders’ cutscenes, it seems there's a resolution (type of). Buried in Outriders‘ console and PC options is a setting for “Cinematic Camera Smoothing.” Some players have reported that setting this to around 0.50 seems to make things the camera a bit more stable, but as always, you’re going to should mess around a bit to get it to your private consolation zone. Outriders’ Optimal PC Settings for Performance If you’re determined to expertise excessive FPS Outriders gameplay and might’t watch for updates and patches to repair the title’s underlying points, then you definately’ll should decrease among the recreation’s core settings. Unfortunately, at the moment, there are still limited games supported by this tool. This restriction is applied deliberately by the developers. So, if you wish to play all PS4 games on Windows, then you should test it out in detail and report any system bugs to the developers.
