Dublin is a great spot to see the sunset. Whether your going for an evening stroll, or looking to capture the perfect sunset photo, here is our list of our favourite spots to watch the sun go down in Dublin.

Howth 

This small fishing village in Dublin’s North side, is the prefect spot for an evening walk. From a light stroll along the pier, or a walk along the cliffs, experience the sun setting over the Irish Sea. Grab a bag of fish and chips and watch as the sun goes down.

Dun Laoghaire

Take a walk down Dun Laogharie’s east pier, taking in the spectacular reflection of the sun across the water. The sky lights up with spectacular colours, perfect for a romantic date. 

O’Connell Bridge

This underestimated spot is perfect for capturing the sunset. Lighting up the city in an array of colours, it can all be seen from O’Connell Bridge, as the colours cascade down the Eiver Liffey. 

Grand Canal Dock

Another great spot to take in the sunset is Dublin’s Grand Canal Dock. Whether your coming from work or heading to a show in The Bord Gais Theatre, the water beautifully reflects the colours of the sunset.

Dublin Underground – Hidden Bars of Dublin

Discover another side of Dublin. Head underground with these 5 speakeasies hidden around Dublin.

1. The Vintage Cocktail Club

Only distinguishable by the black door bearing the letters “V.C.C”, this little bar boasts three floors and a roof deck. But beware, this speakeasy is strictly over 23s.

2. The Hacienda

Frequented by celebrities, this unassuming spot is unlike anything else in town. To get past the always closed yellow door, you must ring a bell and answer some questions. The eclectic style, 80s music, and pool table make this bar a great spot.

3. The Blind Pig

This speakeasy is well and truly hidden. It goes above and beyond to not publicly post their exact address! Book ahead of time for directions to this hidden gem.

4. The Little Pig

Like its big brother, ‘The Blind Pig’ it’s just as hidden. Choose from well-made elevated classics or go all out with the Absinthe Drip, served with the traditional spoon and sugar.

5. The Barbers

Hidden behind a barbershop, this charming little place is full of character and atmosphere. Save time on your night out, and get your haircut while enjoying a pint.

12 Pubs of Christmas

Are you planning a 12 Pubs of Christmas in Dublin? Don’t worry we’ve got you covered. Here’s our list of Rules and Tips.

Basic Rules 1. Christmas Clothing (Christmas Jumpers, Tops, Shits, Santa hats, sleigh bells, twinkle lights, tinsel) are essential. The more outrageous and/or embarrassing, the better.

2. One drink (must be alcoholic, unless vomiting may occur) must be consumed in each pub or bar.

3. One “rule” will be imposed per bar. Groups need to decide these “rules”. Please have them written down on your phone for ease of reference

4. If Rules are broken penalties will be paid.

5. Warning: 12 Dranks back-to-back may cause legless, vomiting and Blackout, to prevent this and to ensure a safe trip to coppers these rules are included: i) The WATER RULE - Drink a glass of water in every pub or Drink a pint of water (alongside your alcoholic beverage) in every third pub ii) The GRUB RULE - Eat a large, stodgy, carbohydrate-based meal before your start, to give you longevity on the pints but also slow down your descent into absolute alcoholism. At pub 6.5 It shall be snack time with a pit stop to go get a snack.

Penalties: If someone breaks one of the rules, intentionally or unintentionally, these are the consequences: 1. Do a shot 2. Buy the person who spotted you breaking the rule, their next drink.

Rules Per Pub: (Decide on 12) 1. “The Accent Pub”. Everyone has to speak in a different foreign accent. 2. “The Partner Pub”. Partners must picked (sometimes you even have to link arms for the entirety of that pub visit) and can only drink your beverage, by being fed it by your chosen mate. This is simpler than it sounds, in a crowded bar with too many jars on you! 3. “The No Swearing Pub”. 4. “The No Pointing Pub”. 5. “The No First Names Pub”. Or Common nicknames 6. “The Speak in Song Pub”. Add some lyrics to your night. Once drunk, this will be highly amusing. 7. “The No Talking to the Bartender Pub”. 8. “The No Toilet Break Pub”. 9. “The Opposite Hand Pub”. Drink with your opposite (i.e. lefties drink with your right hand, and vice versa). 10. “Call the barman, Guinness”. 11. “The No phones pub”. 12. “The Hold Your Drink Pub”. cannot let your drink touch any surface for the entirety of the pub, or until you have finished your drink. (someone else has to feed them their pint/drink.) 13. “The Swap Shoes Pub”. I 14. “The Hug a Stranger Pub”. 15. “The Role Call Pub” - The smallest person is the group has stand up and do a roll call of everyone. 16. “The Stranger Pub” Everyone must ignore each other and pretend they're strangers. 17. “The Truth or Dare Pub”- You can’t do to truths but you can double dare.

Dublin Christmas Markets

Christmas at the Castle

Kicking off Thursday, December 12th, and running until Sunday, December 22nd, Dublin’s newest Christmas Market. Set with the beautiful backdrop of Dublin Castle, transformed into a magical winter wonderland, the market is free to enter. 

This boutique open-air market, features evening carol singing, a Neapolitan crib and access to the traditionally decorated State apartments along with plenty of other festive entertainment. 

Over 20 craft vendors, selling everything from hand-made crafts to seasonal treats and everything in between, have taken up shop in the magical courtyard! Coupled with tasty food vendors, this is the perfect day out.

Dún Laoghaire Christmas market 

A feast for the seasonal senses as carefully selected vendors sell authentic hand-made gifts and delicious treats every Saturday, Sunday (7th/8th, 14th/15th, 21st/22nd) and Monday December 23rd on the Metals and opposite dlr LexIcon from 11am to 7pm.

 If you are searching for the perfect Christmas present the market has hand-crafted gifts and decorations, jewellery, limited edition photographic prints, Hurling watches and clocks, Trendy Socks, PaperBear Greeting cards, knitwear, fragrances and hemp products for people and pets. Its a whole host of very special quality gifts and treats that are not mass-produced but hand crafted with love.

The market also features Santa’s Post Box to post your letters by Sunday December 15th and receive a personal reply in time for Christmas.

The Stephen’s Green Christmas market

Kicks-off on Sunday, November 24th, and will run for 5 weeks in The Well on St Stephens Green.

The market is will feature 50+ traders including local creatives, vinyl sellers, vintage  and sustainable clothing, art, jewellery and homewares.

Enjoy tasty bites and brews from the Dublin Pizza Company, mulled wine, coffee and Christmas treats.

The Sustainable Christmas Market Dublin

There’s a Sustainable Christmas Market taking place from December 6th to 8th in D-Light Studios in Dublin 1.

Those that visit can expect to find a range of sustainable gifts from around 30 traders. Although entry to the market is free, any donations made will be given to the Inner City Helping the Homeless.

Inreda Christmas in Clontarf Castle Fair

As this is a fair, you can expect arts, crafts, and some seasonal bites.

If you visit, head for a ramble around the castle – it’s like Hogwarts from the Harry Potter series when Christmas comes round

There are plenty of Christmas trees to be light up in the county of Dublin and Dublin city council has just revealed the lighting plans for areas across Dublin.

From the 26th of November through to the 12th of December there are plenty of events that you can attend, perfect to get the family in the Christmas mood.

Dublin's ‘cat fair’ returns this weekend

We have the purr-fect plan for you this weekend!

This is the third year running of this annual event which takes place across two days.  Catering to 20,000 visitors, fair-goers can browse various cat-centric products, various food options and even cat perfume. If shopping for your cat inst your thing there will also be various lectures on cats ranging from grooming to cat acupuncture. The event will take place in Irish town in Clona gael GAA club.  Tickets, which cost €10 for an adult and €5 for a child, can be gotten here.
